Is Stopping E for a Month Before Surgery Normal or Transphobic?

I'm going to be having surgery on the 16th of December and my doctor told me to stop taking E for 1 month prior. However I've had an orchi and won't have either hormone in my body then for a month.

Is this typical medical practice or is my surgeon just going off old transphobic beliefs about HRT?

Can I refer to myself as a trans woman online... if I haven't started any HRT or surgeries ?

I feel contradictory about that... or ashamed of calling myself a "woman" when I look like a male... I'm so overwhelmed about that

What’s the funniest encounter with a transphobe you’ve had?

(I don’t mean for this to be offensive I know some experiences with transphobes can be horrible but sometimes you can just say one thing and watch their worldview collapse into logic lol)

sex reassignment and sex with other women

I am a bisexual trans woman who wants to undergo gender-affirming genital surgery, and I’d like to know what your experience has been like—for those of you who are bi or lesbian and have already had the surgery.

Has sex with other women been pleasurable? Do you also need to use lubricant when having sex with cisgender women? Have they ever complained about the taste, smell, etc., of your vagina?

Sorry, I’m just very insecure about this.

Getting older and losing community

Hi

As I've gotten further along in my transition, I've really felt like I relate to other trans women less and less. I'm 23 years old and almost 2 years into hormomes & transition. I've socially transitioned. I pass decently enough (or I'm just lucky), so I have not experienced any transphobia (besides from my mother), which is of course an amazing privilege. I'm satisfied and content with my transition (and where it will lead in the coming years), and I really feel like myself for the first time in my entire life.

But with that it doesn't feel like I can relate to other trans women in online and irl spaces anymore. I don't really relate to the experiences of people early in their transitions, nor is being trans and my transition really such a dominant aspect of my life anymore. It's just become another characteristic that makes me, me. I don't know. Maybe this is a me problem. Can anyone else relate?

Is it really love if it is conditional?

I came out to my wife as transgender, after 6 years of marriage and after being together for more than 10 years.

I somehow always knew something is "off" within me, but I could never really put a finger on what it is exactly, because I grew up in quite the religious family, which is super anti LGBTO.

So after moving out of my parents house, it went "downhill" for me, because for the first time had some freedom to see who I really am.

I'm still religious myself and thankful for it btw. So please no religion bashing. I'm my mind both can coexist. That's the most important thing.

Since I figured this out, my life is completely falling apart.

My parents will disown me and said I'll have to move away so they don't have to look at me and be ashamed in their community.

My wife was first okayish, but it got worse with time.

She said she worries I'll mess up our daughters life.

And the more changes there were, the more she noticed shes not attracted to women.

I tried HRT a few times for a few months and stopped every time, because there's so much pushback from everyone around me. And every time I'm mentally worse and worse.

I mean I'm at a point where I definitely would have already killed myself, if I wasn't religious. I'm crying every single day, because it feels so wrong to be in this body and everyone around me says they will support me to go through this anyway they can, as long as I don't transition. They are all doing it out of love for me because this is wrong and it will ruin my life.

I objectively see that my life will be worse because of this. I'll lose everything I worked for and what I loved. All I'll get is that I'm looking forward to living...

They also made me cut my hair short, which I'm wearing in kinda of a pixie cut now, which I also get complaints about everyday.

What also happened is that try to relieve my dysphoria by e.g. painting my nails a bit with transparent gel, or I pluck my eyebrows or I buy androgynous clothes from the women's department, like their sweaters instead of the men version or that I put on some blush sometimes.

My wife didn't like it and told my religious authority about it and now I also get pushback from that side and I had to promise I won't do anything anymore. She said she did it out of love.

It's just that I feel so extremely sad and empty. This is going up and down for nearly 15 months now and there's no end in sight.

Lots of blabbering, but is my wife actually doing this out of love? I also want to keep our marriage working, but if I imagine seeing her cry every night, it would break me. That's also why I stopped HRT again, because she couldn't handle it.

I don't know. I'm kinda lost. And I'm so scared having to start life from 0 again with 30. I'm also scared that I'll spend less time with my daughter if we divorce... And I'm scared I'm breaking apart my whole family, which I actually am doing because if this....

Did anyone manage to get over this sadness without transitioning? I don't know, I'm so lost.

Is there a way to hide changes of HRT?

Hi everyone, I'm 19 years old and I'm a trans girl, and preparing to start my transition with hormones. I will still living with my transphobic parents for probably about 10 more months to a year. I know it's not ideal but I just really don't want to risk having my body masculinize further. Are there any tips on how to hide the changes of HRT, including emotional changes? Thank you so much everyone. 💗

edit: thank you everyone for the advice and kindness 💖

Is it reasonable to expect a purportedly gender-affirming therapist to see me as a woman when I haven’t transitioned yet?

Genuinely wondering, as I just look like a dude… and am trying to be reasonable. They’re (cis woman) kind of affirming but also kind of clearly viewing me as a larval stage of woman at best.

It was r/asktransgender, r/egg_irl, AGP, HSTS, ROGD, the Harry Benjamin Rules. It was overseas clinics and pharmacies, the hormone panels, the long dress in my shopping cart, the A-cup bra, the patchy foundation, and the first birthday cake I genuinely enjoyed.

It was Whipping Girl, Sexed Up, “Hello, miss”, the stall in the women’s room, the long hair, the beard shadow, the voice training, the laryngitis, the impact factors, the men’s dormitory, the surgical scrubs, the citation counts, the wristbands, the accessories, and chat logs timestamped three in the morning.

It was the first email, the “my daughter,” the countdown, the visa, the plane ticket, the Korean barbecue in Myeongdong, the diapers, the maternity pads, the irrigation, the dilation, and that fall I had waited so, so long for.

It was time collapsing into a singularity.

It was time unfolding from that.

(This is also an AMA post, AMA and I'm a somewhat post-transition trans woman)

Is modding the Nintendo 3ds (and the similar variants) like big in our community?

• Upvotes

Downloaded, this random chat app on my moded 2ds. There was like a chat room. Couldn't believe it. But there's like twenty people in it. I mention im trans like 4 others were trans as well. Im playing a 2ds cuz im broke af I cant afford a switch 2. And how is it not the most awesome thing ever gave 128gb micro sd worth of games on something like that. With every nes snes gba gbc title in emulators THOUSANDS of games. Dont really ever play it but Lotta potential for fun

CW: transphobia, s-ide ideation

So there's this vent n'rant post I saw (in my extremley religious countey) asking if trans women are women. As much as it's widely agreed upon what the answer is, there are literally >100 comments saying otherwise, and they are all being upvoted, with OP and other commenters saying that trans people are just being entitled and are just forcing their agenda onto them.

I don't want to feel entitled, I just wanna live my life. I wanna like and do girly things without being called out or hurt or killed over it.

I do feel envious about girls and their natural biology of being short and having smooth skin and having been taught proper feminine decorum when they were young. And I hate how disgusting I am compared to them as a fat guy.

I don't want to pretend, and I don't want to be put into a category of being a man or even just a feminine man.

I just want an objective answer, if it's even possible. I've never felt such amount of transphobia before, and they're just random people online I don't even know. I cannot comprehend the millions of other transphobes out there, and I'm doing my best not to. But if I could, I don't think I would like to see another day.

Looking for resources for/experiences of autistic trans kids?

Hi folks. I'm a trans man who started socially transitioning last year and medically transitioning this year. I'm 31 and knew my feelings about transitioning only since I was 19, so I don't have a lot of experience with this in the childhood department. I also might be on the spectrum myself, but was never diagnosed so I do not claim that I am.

However, my best friend since I was a young teen now has a 6 year old who has been formally diagnosed as autistic and he (the child, using his current pronouns as far as we're aware) is now expressing interest in feminine things (painting nails and barbies, etc). That alone obviously doesn't make him trans, but my friend added that he is often saying recently he wishes he was a girl and is sad he wasn't born a girl.

Now, personally, I was mostly content as a girl in childhood up until puberty. And even so, I had a few "tomboy"-ish traits or interests that were never punished/looked down upon, though I'm not sure if that's because trans people weren't a hot topic in the news or because patriarchy would've deemed it an upgrade and what have you.

That is to say, I'm not sure if this kid is having an inverse experience because of those things or not. Like, he was told that boys can't paint their nails so he (wonderful child that he is) said he would be a girl then so that he could. Now adults on the other side of the family are telling him things like he can't be a girl or can't be trans. And his weird aunt became his uncle (me). So it's hard to tell if him wanting to be a girl is internally or externally "motivated".

There's nothing wrong with being externally motivated because, hell, I kinda was. But I also am all the classic opposites of his situation: FTM vs MTF, aware as an adult vs as a child, [possibly] not autistic vs autistic. And of a different generation.

It's one day at a time right now for the kid and his mother, though in the meantime I was hoping for any good resources for autistic trans kids or if people had lived experience closer to my friend's child that I could share with her. We all go on our own deeply personal journeys with gender and I want to support her navigating this in a way that best nourishes her kid's soul.

Managing your Trans identity at work

Reading and seeing so many wonderful Trans women give me a lot of hope for me, even if I'm scared to death of finally coming out.

One aspect that I've started to prep for is how to manage my Trans self at the workplace. I'm realizing that facing the family is one enormous endeavor. Now I'm recognizing that my workplace might be too, and if that goes downhill then I might be unemployed where I work (in the long run).

I'm thinking I have to have contingency plans for work (update resume, pre-research LGBTQ+ friendly companies, etc.,). The job market in my sector is extremely tight/competitive right now. This is adding an additional layer I wasn't thinking too deep until now.

I don't even know which questions to ask you first. Any feedback, thoughts, or guidance is really appreciated.

Additional Context Work-live in the US (North East). No HRT yet. Still in the closet to family (not LGBTQ welcoming). The current workplace leans conservative (they are polite and respectful but ???). The current workplace is small, 40'ish people. I'm pretty sure I'm the only Transgender there.

Clothes Do Not Fit Me

I'm 41 XXY and HRT start date is approaching. I've been trying to build a wardrobe and everything but clothes do not play nice with my broad 6'3" frame. I know that there's a chance I might shrink a wee bit after marinating in estrogen for long enough but for right now, shopping which is supposed to be fun is a nightmare. Shoes? 14 to 15 depending on toe style. Good luck finding it. I promise I've looked at everything on Amazon. Tops? 3XL but the bust is too big and the arms too short. Bras? I had to buy these little extenders because the straps didn't go far enough down to properly sit on my little B cup starter pack gynecomastia breasts. It's just frustrating because clothes are supposed to be part of the fun but it feels like putting every single outfit together is writing a research project. I know about Long Tall Sally, APOS, Zappos, Nordstrom, etc. It's just frustrating. Does anybody have some tips or advice for just navigating that awkward first year or so for tall girls when it comes to clothes?

Will my body feminize as I get older?

So I’m at least 70% sure I’m trans masc in some way. I want to get on testosterone, but I currently live with my Mom while in college.
I’m turning 22 in a few months. I’m pretty sure my breasts stopped growing a while ago, (A cups and easy to hide, thank God.) but I know that trans fem people often want to start hormones ASAP because of how it masculinizes the body as you age. (Twink death, I guess is what it’s called?)
So I was just wondering if a trans masc guy like me has to worry about the same thing? As far as I could tell from research, it doesn’t seem like the body becomes more feminine with age.
It seems like further feminization can come from getting pregnant, but I don’t really plan on getting pregnant ever. (In fact, I’m thinking of getting a hysterectomy.)
But I just wanted to make sure. I want my transition to be as smooth as possible, after all.

Why do I like imagining myself as a woman? NSFW

For the record, I’m a 33 year old man. I have never felt a sense of gender dysphoria; I’ve always been happy identifying myself as a man. However, I very much enjoy imagining myself as a woman or roleplaying in a more feminine role sexually.

My parents were both very conservative and Christian; my dad would make homophobic comments all the time, and my mother would stop me from doing things because they “looked gay”. I’m bisexual, came to terms with it and came out a few years ago. My first sexual experience was with a man, and I was very much occupying a stereotypical feminine/submissive role in that relationship.

I don’t know why, but I’m extremely interested in imagining myself as a woman and roleplaying as a woman in purely sexual scenarios. I’m also very interested in exhibitionism, and love imagining scenarios that I could live out if I was a woman that I couldn’t as a man. I’ve spent hours using image generators to turn pictures of myself into a feminine version of myself. It’s like some days I just wonder “what if”? I don’t have any interest in feminine clothing, or feel like I’m trapped in the wrong body. It’s like I want the gender role of a woman sometimes, but not to be one permanently.

This is turning into a ramble. Bottom line: I have no idea why I feel this way. Maybe it was my upbringing, maybe my brain isn’t quite the same as everyone else’s. I don’t think I’m trans, but I have so little knowledge and experience of the trans community that I feel I can’t say anything definitive. Can anyone here make sense of this?

Also, I hope none of this is inadvertently offensive or upsetting to anyone: that is the last thing I want. Please let me know if I said anything wrong so I can avoid it in the future. Thank you in advance.

One of my coworkers sort of came out to me as a trans woman. Advice needed.

Hello. So today at work I was having lunch and my coworker said he (I'm gonna be using he because that's his current preferred pronoun) told me he "had a non binary phase", he experiences gender dysphoria, wants to wear "fem clothes", and be clean shaven. But that he can't because he's to masculine looking to ever be attractive as a girl, is too fat to be taken seriously as a trans woman (his opinion not mine), and that his Muslim family and community would reject him (probably true tbh based on other stuff he's told me).

He then went on to explain to me that in some circles of Islamic thought, it is argued that same sex attraction and gender dysphoria aren't seen as something wrong but as struggles for you to overcome. I told him this was really offensive to me as a queer man and that there is nothing wrong with being gay or trans and that that just sounds like conversion therapy. He said that it's different in the Muslim community and that because of intersectionality I should have more space for these arguments when they come from Muslims. Completely ignoring the fact that I'm ex Muslim.

What should I do with this info. I'm not gonna out him or anything, but based on other trans friends I have, I dont think it's healthy to stay in the closet. He's often having a mental health crisis, and I think his gender dysphoria and suppression of his identity may be making his mental health worse. But like I can't dismantle his internalised queerphobia and religious abuse for him. So I don't know what I do with this info.

Do trans woman dream of being pregnant?

Nobody be inappropriate!

I’m just asking, it’s a very woman trait, but it’s also definitely the most painful part of womanhood.

But if uterus transplants or 100% sex changes become possible, would you want to be pregnant.

Again nobody be inappropriate, and I’m sorry if this topic is to much.

Shasta County Needs Real Protections for Trans Students

I started a petition because what happened at our school board meeting made something really clear: kids shouldn't have to defend their right to feel safe at school.

Here's the thing—when adults let hate into education spaces, students pay the price. Trans kids hearing discrimination learn they're not safe with the adults in charge of them. That's not abstract. That's damage. And it doesn't have to happen.

I'm asking Shasta County education leaders to step up: adopt policies that actually protect trans students, respect their identities, and make it clear that discrimination won't be tolerated. You can disagree on a lot of things. But you can't disagree on whether kids deserve to feel safe in school.

If this matters to you too—if you think kids should just be able to show up to school without that weight—consider signing and sharing the petition. What would you want someone to do if this was your family?

I have, out of the blue, become a sugar baby!! Yeah, I know, WTF is going on? Soun weird at this point but, trust me, it’s about to get weirder!!

Context is all: I’m 60 been out 3 years and had SRS just after my birthday in Feb, so I’m not SB material really.

He is younger, 40ish, and actually the partner of someone that I was hoping would tie me up!

He’s got me to make a very long Amazon wish list with lingerie shoes and toys- lots of fun.

Things are supposed to be online but might extend irl.

In truth, his sexual motivation doesn’t concern me too much because this is one of my biggest fantasies come true!!

So, is this just a me thing? Am I mad getting involved? like I know it’s low key sex work but I am just so excited!!!

Feeling regretful and hopeless

• Upvotes

I recently turned 22 and started hrt. I immediately went to research other mtfs and their success in transitioning. I honestly became very regretful and worried about my future appearance. A lot of the trans girls that i would hope to have a similar bodily silhouette to started before or mid puberty. I look back at photos of myself at 18 or even 20 and think how my ribcage or shoulders have gotten bigger. It just makes me feel very regretful because i felt like i was trans since i was very very young and i let all the time pass by before i got the courage to just go for it. Now it feels like ive stifled a huge amount of ground that i can never get back. I'm not so concerned about people percieving me as passing as much as about my own satisfaction with my body. But it feels like that sort of satisfaction is now permanently out of reach. Does anyone have a similar experience, especially around my age, and how did it turn out? Are there any great examples of mtfs starting around my age that turned out exceptionally well? I'm not so interested in empty reassurance. I would like to hear honest opinions of how it may work for me.

P.S. I'm pretty isolated and not really involved in any lgbtq+ communities so im sorry if anything comes off as rude or insensitive
