question will teeth whitening be able to get my teeth as white as the whites in my eyes?

Post image

EDIT: Guys I'm glad this post is making you laugh but please do give advice! Which is better, whitening strips, gels or a dentist whitening session?

My teeth are noticeably yellow in outdoor lighting (slightly less so indoors and on camera)

I want my teeth to be whitened to be as white as the whites in my eyes (pic included for natural reference). I dont mind using whitening strips, gels, in-office etc as long as the appropriate method can make my teeth significantly whiteer.

Also, Ive been using Crest 3d strips for a week now on my top teeth and they are a shade lighter than my bottom teeth. Maybe slightlyyy more noticeable irl

question Does my tooth need to be extracted? I know the most common answer is going to be yes but I’d still like to know if there is any hope.

Here’s the story- 3 years back, I had terrible pain in my tooth, and I went to the Dentist. She performed root canal on my tooth for three or four days, and it hurt a lot. I’ve had my two wisdom teeth removed under local anaesthesia, not even general anaesthesia, it was not that painful, but this root canal treatment even with local anaesthesia was so painful and traumatic for me. She filled it with temporary filling and let me go, but then I never went to her after that. It’s been three years, I had pain maybe two or three times in the last three years in this tooth, I never had any pain, that’s why I never went to the dentist again, but in the last 7-8 months it started breaking off. First a small piece on the outer side and now the inner side of the crown part most of the teeth is gone. Although I do not have any pain unless I chew very hard on this side, I usually don’t chew anything on this side. I only chew from the other side. Do you think my tooth is restorable? I don’t want my tooth to be extracted.

question White tongue

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hello everyone,
To explain everything, it must have been two years since I had the white tongue. I wasn't more worried about it than that but it's been 6 months since I looked at the problem because yes I'm sure it's not normal to have a language of this color CONSTANTLY day and night.

Important points to know:

- I have very good oral hygiene (tooth brushing 2/3 times a day).
- Hydropulsor.
- Mouthwash from time to time (coconut oil, bicarbonate and whatever you want).
- Chewing gum with xylitol.
- I drink a lot of water (about 3L/day).
- I do sports and therefore I eat accordingly (fiber, zero sugars and so on).
- I don't drink alcohol and I don't smoke.
- It doesn't go to the tonguescraper for those who would ask.
- I'm not on medication either.

No particular symptoms. It just gives the smell a little unpleasant in the mouth. Does anyone have a solution to this ? Have anyone ever had this problem and found a cure ? Do not hesitate to share your experiences with me. Thank you !

I've just posted on /wisdomteeth, so copying it here.

So i had 4 wt removed on 10th, the last week was the worst week of my life bcz of swelling and constant nausea-hunger and vice versa. Today is 19th, i had a fever up to 37.2° C yesterday and 38° (100° Fr) on 17th and 16th. And a few minutes ago i noticed this besides my left-lower removal. A tiny white lump was there for a week and i read that's nothing to worry abt, but i didn't realize there was something underneath my gums (my 7th moral is still work in progress). And now I'm thinking maybe I'm getting a fever a week post op bcz of this shit? It doesn't hurt but it looks so weird

My left tooth had to be cut in 4p and all my lower ones were impacted.

The first one is that stuff, the second is how it looks with gums pulled down, the third is the right one for comparison and the fourth is just now. I'm low-key panicking

Also the tip of my gum just turned purple for some reason?

question When can I use my whitening strips again?

Bought whitening strips last night, and while using them (for about 25 minutes) I got the zingers with a bit of lasting sensitivity afterwards. Now 24 hours later the sensitivity is pretty much gone, maybe slightly more sensitive than before I used them. Should I wait every other day to use them? Or will I be good to use them tonight, maybe for less time?

And if I should wait until the next day, can I use peroxide/ baking soda toothpaste on my off days?

Thanks!

question Retainer broke, will my teeth be okay til I get a new one?

For context, I live in a rural town hours away from the city where my orthodontist is. My top retainer broke (one of those clear ones) I’ve been wearing them since august-ish of last year. I don’t know when i’ll be able to go to the city and get a new one, hopefully within the week. I’m still gonna wear my bottom one but i’m just worried my teeth are gonna shift super fast.

question Apicoectomy healing worries

• Upvotes

I had an apicoectomy on my #12 tooth one week ago. I noticed, as it’s the first time that I was able to see it when brushing teeth, that my gums are still very white with dark areas around the stitches. It doesn’t feel like they should still look like that at this point. I have my appointment to have the stitches removed in two days but this, combined with the fact that I am still experiencing light pulsing sensations and pressure in the area occasionally has freaked me out a bit.

My endodontist was already closed for the day by the time I noticed this so checking here for how concerned I should be. Any help would be appreciated.

question Spontaneous gum bleeding

Two areas of my mouth started bleeding randomly in june after tonsillitis. They developed blisters and i was given amoxicillin and they cleared up.

I had a sore throat the other day which quickly cleared up but now i have painful bleeding gums again.

Why does this keep happening? I brush, floss and go to my cleanings, but no dentist can tell me why this keeps happening

question Tongue tie release (done by dentist) without myofunctional therapy?

I do not drink or smoke. I have controlled asthma.

If I can't afford myofunctional therapy then should I even bother with the tongue tie release? The dentist said he could do the release after a filling during the same appointment.

Most of what I see online is that you are cooked without doling out thousands of dollars for the therapy. I do not have thousands of dollars at this time

Any info would be appreciated as my appointment is set for weds Oct 21st

question Is a white spot lesion in this stage reversible

I shined the torch really closely on my enamel, as I have braces and I noticed very small dotted prickly white spots that are also yellow but white at the same time and I am wondering if that would be the very early sign of demineralisation. The white spot is not smooth and uniformed as I see on other people online. It’s not visible to the naked eye, I have to dry it out and angle the light in a certain way to catch it. My question to the dentists in here is, what’s the best possible solution at this stage, should I use the 5000 fluoride toothpaste, or get icon resin or microabrasion( the problem is I look like I’m seeing ghosts if I try to explain what I’m seeing to my dentists because you can’t actually really see it unless you’re looking really hard with the light.

question Jaw/tooth sensitivity

A few days ago my tooth got super sensitive to everything I ate, and I woke up today to my jaw in that area feeling pretty numb. It doesn't hurt or swollen jus numbness. I had bad dental hygiene over the years I've gotten better at doing the whole thing. Over the last year it seems like they just got worse. My back muller broke open exposing a cavity and well a big hole in it now. That doesn't hurt or anything. And my gums are bleeding almost every morning. Problem is I don't have insurance, I can't afford to get it looked at. I just hope there's some way I can deal with it for a few weeks til I get insurance from my job set up.

question Black Triangles Between Teeth - Options

Thumbnail

Hey guys,

I'm a 29 yo female who does her best to try and keep up with dental hygiene. I brush and floss every day, whilst also trying to visit the dentist every 6 months for a clean.

After my most recent clean, I noticed that I have quite obvious black triangles between my teeth, due to the gum receding.

I just want to know what are my safest options for preserving my gums better or even cosmetically fixing these gaps.

Opinions and advice all welcomed!

Thank you in advance!

question Bone coming through gums

Post image
3 Upvotes

Mouth started hurting week and half ago. I finally went to dentist on Wednesday bc the pain was so bad when I ate. He said it’s a bone spur trying to come through my gums. He referred me to an oral surgeon or said I could leave it and it should eventually resolve on its own. For context, this has happened before where a piece of bone almost like a splinter came out of my gums. It was in the same spot and probably happened a year or two ago. But I don’t remember it hurting this bad and that time, I could feel the piece of bone moving around like it was loose. There is nothing moving this time. It’s just feel like my whole jaw is coming through. I don’t feel anything sharp but can feel a rough patch where it’s starting to wear away the gums. Pain is bearable if I’m not eating. Will something like this really resolve on its own or should I go see an oral surgeon? We don’t have dental insurance and really don’t want to spend the money if I don’t have to but I’m also super uncomfortable and worried that maybe he missed something. I had my wisdom teeth removed probably 25 years ago…

question What to expect from upcoming wisdom tooth root extraction?

• Upvotes

Hi!

I had all 4 wisdom teeth out about 3 years ago. In preparing for double jaw surgery, it was discovered that one root remains. Wouldn’t be a problem or even noticed except for the pending procedure!

Anyways, I am getting the root extracted in two weeks and have no idea what to expect. I assume of course recovery will be easier than getting all 4 out at once. Will recovery be similar though? I had a front tooth extracted last year. Would it be similar to that?

I’m just trying to prepare myself. I will be under anesthesia so not worried about the procedure itself! Just what to expect afterwards.

Thanks for any guidance!

question Severe pain in upper left second premolar (FDI 25) – RCT needed?

Thumbnail

I'm having severe pain in my upper left second premolar (FDI 25 / US #13). It's extremely sensitive to cold, and the pain gets worse when I lie down. No pain on percussion.

I've attached my pano, bitewing, and IOPAs of the region. Would appreciate your thoughts on two things:

  1. Does #25 need RCT, or could deep caries management or a pulpotomy work?
  2. Does the RC-treated #36 show signs of failure distally?

Thanks in advance!

question Whitening gum

Post image
2 Upvotes

Ignoring the obviously horrendous plaque, are my canines too long (retracted flesh?) and is the whitening surrounding my left canine in the picture concerning, this picture doesn’t show it but my left canine is definitely retracting gum. I do drink every so often, i consume great amounts of sugar. Recently i threw up for the first time in long time so maybe that has to do with this I don’t know.

question Teeth and gums are clean, but some areas still have deep pockets

I (22F) have periodontal disease and for the last 2 years have been working with my periodontist to keep my teeth clean as well as upping my home care. I got LANAP done two years ago, but I still have two areas in front of my first molars which have deep pockets (7mm).

My dental hygienists has always said how clean my teeth are and how good my technique for flossing and brushing is etc. when I originally got diagnosed the density told me that the level of bone loss I had localized at my pre molar and molars didn’t match the amount of plaque they usually see with cases like this.

I don’t know what to do anymore because I dropped $8000 on LNAP as well as hundred every three months for cleanings and maintenance only for this issue still. I’m trying so hard not to give up

question What are these patches covering my mouth and how severe is it?

Thumbnail

I (28F) have an appointment with the dentist to check this out, but in the mean time I wanted to see if anyone knows what this could potentially be. These photos don’t do it justice, these white patches are so much worse than what I could actually capture with my camera. They cover a much larger area than what you can really see here, mostly on either side of my mouth behind my back teeth, near the sides of my tongue. I’ve been vaping for about 3-4 years now and I also smoke marijuana most nights (grass and pen), could this be just like a smokers keratosis kind of thing that can go away? Or something more serious like oral cancer or leukoplakia? I don’t even really know what leukoplakia, keratosis, or any of that even is but I know there’s many different kinds. Possibly thrush? Dehydration/dry mouth? If it matters, I finally had my first wisdom tooth start coming in a few years ago on the top right and never did anything about it. Could this be some sort of infection from the tooth being impacted or something? It’s never given me any pain or issues, but just recently a second wisdom tooth started barely coming in on the top left. Ive been trying to research all the possibilities but there’s just too much out there and I have no idea. I know it’s bad, but I haven’t been to the dentist in years so I’m terrified of what they will find.
