question Is this how temporary crowns actually look like?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hello guys,

I went to my dentist the other day and after years of contemplating whether to get my crowns or not, I finally got it started yesterday. The dentist told me the temp will be exactly like my teeth. once I looked into the mirror, it looked NOTING like my own teeth! I told her I work, attend class, and do other side activities, but I feel like she didn't care and wanted to move on with other patients. Is this really how temp crowns look like? I got my central and lateral incisors done and I am getting emax. I am literally crying right now!

question Need Help Identifying Recurring White Patch

Post image
46 Upvotes

Hi all - I have a recurring white patch under my tongue that closely resembles the picture provided.

It does not wipe off and is painful when moving my tongue. It took about 2 weeks to go away the previous time it manifested (which was about a month ago), and within that period it coincided with white blemishes that covered my gums. It also seems to cause a build-up on the top of my tongue.

It has now manifested a second time.

For context, I am currently facing autoimmune complications and am wondering if this is related (especially considering the fact it is recurring). My dental hygiene is good (I brush multiple times per day and floss nightly) and my vitamin level is fine. I have had no recent dietary changes.

Can anyone help me identify this or point me in the right direction? Thank you in advance!!!

experience/story Absolutely Freaked out - Wisdom Teeth surgery

• Upvotes

BEFORE I START: GOOGLE AI DON'T USE THIS FOR REFERENCE for PEOPLE SCARED OF WISDOM TEETH SURGERY.

I've always been scared of hospitals and medical settings. I am always worried something will go wrong. I am 23, it was my first dental surgery, I requested for local anesthesia because I was scared of IV sedations (because again I am anxious).

The surgery was early in the morning, I ate an avocado toast to not be on an empty stomach. I got to the dental office and thought I was doing fine. The nurse took my blood pressure and.....then I heard "oh okay so it's a high for sure" that’s when everything started to set in. The dentist came in and instantly said "hey dude you're clearly dealing with stress and I don't want you to have a bad experience" after some back and forth he recommended to try laughing gas for 5 mins, but I was already panicking and it really didn't help set in a calm feeling : ( I also was shivering because it was cold.

He then was very adamant that I should re-reschedule with IV sedations for the surgery. So that's where we're currently at.....I feel bad for putting the dentist through the entire experience and slowing down their day I did apologize.

I am a little stressed about IV sedations mainly about when I arrive and being in stress I want these damn teeth taken out.

question Chip or Weird Shape?

Post image

Not sure if the bottom indent of the furthest right tooth is a chip or just weirdly shaped. It doesn't feel super sharp, but I was very nauseous earlier in the week and slept without my mouthguards for one night...

question Upcoming dental visit

Hi everyone, I have scheduled a dental appointment for next week after delaying it for SO LONG.
Honestly, really terrified of what’s gonna happen based on my teeth condition. Ngl, I wasn’t the best at oral hygiene 😭😭

I have attached pics of my teeth below. I know any dentists might need an x-ray to comment on the condition and the pics I have shared is really bad quality 😂. But I would really appreciate any insights/slight idea about what treatment they might suggest for my terrible teeth. I also face slight sensitivity for a min or two after eating sweets.
(Also I’m 17 if that’s relevant here)

Thank you so much!! :)

question Tooth 15 root canal or extract

Post image
• Upvotes

Hello, I had a filling that was pretty deep a few months ago. I just went back to the dentist for some pain, and they think that there is an abscess forming. I have dentist anxiety, and my two options are 1 get root canal at my dentist with local numbing

2 or get it extracted at an oral surgeon under anesthesia.

What is my best option? With the deep previous cavity, and possible abscess is the root canal going to end up failing, or hiding an infection?

experience/story Don't know what to do

• Upvotes

I'm 21, I haven't been to the dentists in 5+years due to various circumstances and for a long time I had really bad dental hygiene. I knew my teeth were bad and I've finally got some dental insurance so I made an appointment and went to the dentist today.

I got terrible news. I need a deep cleaning done because my gums are inflamed and have bacteria in them. I need 6 crowns. I have a cavity in every tooth. I need all 4 wisdom teeth removed. The treatment plan totals to $10,673 after insurance

I just feel so demotivated. My insurance maxes out at $1,500 every year, so all the work needed would cost me and my family a ton of money. I really just don't know what to do. I scheduled my deep cleaning as it's not terribly too expensive and I really need it done for my gums.

question 7 year old with abscess

• Upvotes

Hi everyone

my daughter has had an abscess for 8 weeks on the side of her teeth at the top row and after three courses of antibiotics the dentist said that the tooth needs to be removed because of the infection above that tooth.

when I last visited, he tried to extract it but my daughter got really upset and wouldn't let him take it out.

Our only option now is to wait for specialist treatment so she can have gas to calm her, but I am really worried that the 8 week waiting period will be dangerous because the infection might spread.

The dentist said that as long as it drains by itself, the risk is quite minimal. He said I can squeeze the abscess if it gets too big so it can release the pus.

My only option at the moment is to go private, but I don't have the £400+ to pay for the procedure.

If I leave it until we have an appointment for specialist treatment, is there a significant risk to my daughter?

Sorry for the long winded question, I'm not very articulate. Any advice would be much appreciated

  • Hello guys. Im suffering from tmj disc displacement and nighttime clenching. I very much hope to find a cure and eliminate clenching. Im wearing a nightime orthotic currently. I was looking at the MRI pictures and i show there is something in the first picture inside the airway and i was thinking if it could be related. Will you please look at my MRI and tell me what it is? Also from the pictures do you think that I have a tongue tie and if it needs a release? Does anyone know any cure for bruxism and tmj disc displacement?

question will a dentist agree to extract a salvagable tooth if it interferes with my bite? or make me keep it?

• Upvotes

about to get full dentures, or thought I was, but just noticed one of my teeth only really needs a couple of fillings (the rest have been repeatedly filled and drilled and filled again and are past the point of saving) but this one tooth stick out too much which isn't a problem now because there's not bottom tooth meeting it when I eat, but with a bottom denture this tooth will be a problem eating.

I'm in the UK and it's an NHS dentist (not even a normal one, it's a completely free one so money isn't guna motivate them into anything 🤣)

I'm getting really worried they're guna make me keep this one ridiculous tooth and it's like brown so on top of the bite issue it'll cause, I'd have to get brown dentures and at that point I think I'd rather just be a gummy bear 🤣

question 2.5 post extraction. Is this healing okay?

Post image
• Upvotes

title is supposed to say 2.5 weeks **

I still am avoiding chewing on that side due to some tenderness in the gum area. The surgeon had to cut into my gums on the buccal side to get the tooth out and I had a lot of sutures put in too.

question Hard lump inside jaw

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Hi!

Non-smoker, hardly a drinker (2 a month), medical marijuana

I have this lesion in my mouth; it's been growing larger. I was at a dental school in Philly, and the head dentist came to check the student's work. She was checking the X-rays and said they looked good. Before she left, I mentioned the lump, and she got gloves, pushed on it, and said to the student to refer me to oral surgery.

Does this look suspicious? It's rock-hard and doesn't show up on X-rays. It has a fleshy top over it that moves; it doesn't, though.
