HOW DO YALL MAKE FRIENDS :(
I'm 20F and can't find any friends. 😭 My best friend since kindergarten is in college elsewhere and my boyfriend is in the army, he left in January. I have a few acquaintances I talk to every once in a while but nothing more. I'm not old enough to go to most bars or places (and even if I was I got nobody to go with) I feel like Waco has so little to do it's hard to make friends or maybe I'm just too used to being introverted that now that I finally wanna get out I'm not sure what to do! Is there any events, hidden scenes, or spots that are more popular and available that y'all know of? :D

Good pub for a double date?
I’m looking for a pub/dive bar atmosphere that’s hip and lively, but not so loud that a group of four have to yell to be heard.
Also, I’m looking for two board-game enthusiasts to meet my cute friend and I at this pub. 😄 Sorry. At the risk of being banned, I have to shamelessly climb on the furniture and shout, “See my profile for details!”

Texas spent $1 billion on school vouchers. In more than half of Texas counties, there isn't a single private school that takes them. Is ours one of them?
I made this one-pager from state data because I wanted to know what we're actually paying for.
What the state's own numbers show:
• 7 in 10 kids who got a voucher were already in private school or homeschool. Only 3 in 10 left public school.
• 54% of Texas counties have no brick-and-mortar private school in the program. If you live in one, your taxes help pay for it, but your kids can't use it.
• The voucher is about $10,474. Average private tuition in Houston is around $26,900. A family that can't cover the gap can't really use it.
• About 110,000 kids got one. That's roughly 2% of the 5.5 million kids in Texas public schools.
• The state now wants to double it to about $2 billion, plus nearly $1 billion more for the waitlist.
Some honest questions for my neighbors:
• If most of this goes to families already paying private tuition, who is it really helping?
• Our public schools take every kid, and here they're often the biggest employer in town. Why isn't that $1 billion going to them?
• School funding in Texas follows attendance. When a few kids leave, the buses, buildings and teachers still cost the same. Who covers that?
Not trying to start a fight. I'd just like people to look at the numbers before they vote. Sources are in the first comment. You can also check whether your county has a participating school on the state's TEFA school finder.

Waco/McLennan early voting locations wait times thread
I was thinking maybe we could get reports going so people could see trends about which voting locations are the least busy. If you live here you can vote in any of the 5 McLennan County voting sites during the early voting period.
Today I voted at the Robinson Community Center early afternoon and there was no wait at all.
Hewitt City Hall looked like it had a line out the door all day.
Here are the five locations
McLennan County Elections Administration Office, 214 North Fourth St., Suite 300
Robinson Community Center, 106 W. Lyndale Ave.
Waco Multi-Purpose Community Center, 1020 Elm Ave.
Waco First Assembly of God Church, 6701 Bosque Blvd.
Hewitt City Hall/Library, 200 Patriot Court

ISO Scrap 3/4” plywood
Hey, everyone. I have a small project that needs a piece of 1/2” to 3/4” plywood to complete. Size can be at least 15-inches square or a bit larger. I have basic woodworking skills and can cut it to suit my needs. If you’re around Waco I can stop by to collect and put you on the list of favors to return.

Was wondering if any of y'all do much fishing in the Brazos. I'd love to get on some big catfish or something. Just sit out and soak some bait. Was wondering if yall had any tips for it around here or if it is even something that is done.

Who else got the Transgender rage bait mail out??
About every one I know got the Transgender flyer yesterday, and my only assumption … which I’m reading is possibly confirmed … is it’s a political stunt to rage bait republicans. Who else got this?? And thoughts? The GOP is hitting some new lows with this and the Miriam ads and all the other mess they’re spewing. Sad… and i hope all the independent voters see this.

Anyone else have a run-in with the white “Alpha Foam” van?
This dude was so unhinged that I’m thinking there has to be some other people who have encountered him.
I was waved through a stoplight by construction worker at 18th and 35 on the access road because 18th was temporarily blocked by machinery. An 18 wheeler was already turning onto the access road so I, of course, stopped to let him continue. I was sitting there and as he finished merging I started to go when this unrelated van behind him gunned it and purposefully ran the yield sign and cut me off. I had to hit the brakes and when I honked he flipped me off. Then he pulled up beside me at the light giving me this hilarious attempt at a bulldog look. He then rolled down his window and started screaming and cursing at me for some reason. Totally off his rocker.
Anyone else run into this heavyset Hispanic guy driving a white van that says “Alpha Foam” on it? I figure there must be others.
