I've recently started experiencing an issue with SMS on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I'll be upgrading to the iPhone Duo in the next few weeks, but I'd like to figure out what's causing this before then.
I've noticed that I'm not consistently receiving two-factor authentication (2FA) codes via SMS. I'm also unable to reliably send or receive regular SMS messages when RCS is turned off. My friend told me he gets failed to send on his android phone when texting me while I'm on 5G. I've attached a screenshot, which was taken after I turned RCS back on.
This is a completely new issue that I've only noticed within the past two/three weeks. When I request a 2FA code, it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to arrive.
What's interesting is that if I manually switch my phone to LTE, my SMS verification codes arrive almost instantly, and I'm able to text my Android friends without RCS. However, as soon as I switch back to 5G Auto or 5G On, outgoing SMS messages fail to deliver, and incoming 2FA codes are delayed again.
I've also noticed a difference in signal strength: I typically have only two bars on LTE, whereas I get nearly full bars when connected to 5G. Despite the stronger signal, SMS seems to work much more reliably on LTE.
I've seen a few similar threads pop up in this subreddit recently. I've already contacted customer support through the app, but I'd appreciate a second opinion. Has anyone else experienced something similar, or have any ideas what might be causing this?
Thanks!
