Intentionally contradicting title but let me cook.
I came across this response to someone requesting advice on English classes for professional settings for a Korean friend:
He needs a voice class for actors and singers. Teaches enunciation. And facial movement. Body language. Trust me, he will be able to speak the queen's English by the end. I highly suggest everyone take intro to drama. Chorus. Voice lessons. Gives you a better presentation when you speak and move your body correctly. You have no idea how much my dramatic arts background helps me in life. I speak better. I move more deliberately.
I am a non-English speaker early-career whose leadership inclinations are being held back by suboptimal pronunciation, lexicon and intonation. So this out-of-the-box possibility of dipping my toes in drama to hone my language skills slapped my "I'll just get better with time" thinking so hard I felt I spun several times like a cartoon character and fell on my back looking at the blue sky above. I've barely stepped out of strictly STEM involvements during my entire graduate program.
Can I put my UMD privileges to good use for this? I'm looking for extremely hands-on, even workshop-like intro classes to acting, with a strong focus on speech and body/facial language. Not so much interested in very academic courses, i.e. "let's first delve into the history/politics for five weeks".
Also what are your experiences in such courses? What other aspects of your life were improved outside of a career in drama? Could it be worth it for my purposes?
