Hi, I'm currently a student at UIUC. I made a website for my school and OSU to find available buildings on campus. I was just wondering if you guys would be interested as well. This is a completely free and open sourced website (I'm not making any money, just though it would be a cool idea to pursue). Please let me know if you think this would be a helpful tool and I'm open to any feedback. I'll include photos of what your campus would look like (the site will be improved before I make it live)
Here is the link to the current live site: campusquiet.com/

I’m in stat401 with hatice right now and she already has cutoffs in her syllabus. IMO she’s super disorganized and it’s really difficult to follow along in class. Based on the averages, most of the class is doing pretty poorly (quiz 1 avg was 7/10, quiz 2 avg was 5.5/10, exam 1 avg was a 55%). Im wondering if she adjusts her grade cutoffs because based off of the current averages, it seems like a lot of the class is about to fail.
Went to Stamp for lunch today, and there were a bunch of grade-school-aged children eating there. Was wondering if anyone knows what was happening?

Do I just have to withdraw from my classes and send an email to gradschool@umd.edu?

I'm a senior Electrical Engineer at UMD and have been trying to sort my life out. I have a job lined up after college and secure grad school plans, but don't really know what the next 5 years of my life are supposed to look like.
I was wondering about the experiences of people who'd already graduated. What did the next 5 years of your life look like after UMD?

Hey! I saw someone else basically talk about this same thing so it inspired me to make my own! I transferred here last year in the hopes that it would be easier to make friends here, I was unfortunately proven wrong. I do know people here, my bf and his friends and when we all hangout it’s cool but I want my own group of people to hangout with or even chat to, especially on days where he or all of them aren’t here. I joined clubs and things but the clubs don’t fully seem like a space to make friends bc people bring their friends with them and only really interact with their friends. I try to give off as much welcoming energy as I can but it’s to no avail tbh :/. If anyone could suggest anything that would be great, and I’m open to giving additional information if needed as well.
Graduate Aerospace Engineer from UMD here! Anyone looking to get tutored either on core classes (math, physics, chem, mechanics, thermo) or aerospace classes? I have always been big on helping out and teaching and my method of tutoring most likely will be very relevant since I am a recent graduate. Prices are cheap & very negotiable!! Just dm me!

Can anyone share their stats that got them into a UMD non LEP. I’m trying to major in physics and was wondering if I have a chance of getting in.

I’m currently a high school senior applying Early Action to the University of Maryland, with my intended major being Information Systems through the Smith School of Business. I recently received my SAT score of 1390 (660 Reading and Writing, 730 Math), and I’m debating whether I should submit it. I have a 3.93 unweighted GPA, participate in dual enrollment through early college, and have extracurriculars that include presenting at national conferences and completing an internship. Since admission to Smith is pretty competitive, I’m not sure if submitting my SAT score would strengthen my application or if I’d be better off applying test-optional. For anyone familiar with UMD admissions, especially Smith, would you recommend submitting a 1390 with these stats, or going test-optional?

Intentionally contradicting title but let me cook.
I came across this response to someone requesting advice on English classes for professional settings for a Korean friend:
He needs a voice class for actors and singers. Teaches enunciation. And facial movement. Body language. Trust me, he will be able to speak the queen's English by the end. I highly suggest everyone take intro to drama. Chorus. Voice lessons. Gives you a better presentation when you speak and move your body correctly. You have no idea how much my dramatic arts background helps me in life. I speak better. I move more deliberately.
I am a non-English speaker early-career whose leadership inclinations are being held back by suboptimal pronunciation, lexicon and intonation. So this out-of-the-box possibility of dipping my toes in drama to hone my language skills slapped my "I'll just get better with time" thinking so hard I felt I spun several times like a cartoon character and fell on my back looking at the blue sky above. I've barely stepped out of strictly STEM involvements during my entire graduate program.
Can I put my UMD privileges to good use for this? I'm looking for extremely hands-on, even workshop-like intro classes to acting, with a strong focus on speech and body/facial language. Not so much interested in very academic courses, i.e. "let's first delve into the history/politics for five weeks".
Also what are your experiences in such courses? What other aspects of your life were improved outside of a career in drama? Could it be worth it for my purposes?

I don't like confrontation but I'm getting irritated. There's this guy next to my dorm room that's always making loud sounds (banging/screaming/etc.) plus questionable moaning sounds (???) and he does it every damn night. I leave the dorm but it's a temp solution. How do i deal w this situation? I don't want someone to target or get mad at me because I snitched or something...

Hello! I am currently living in a 4x4 apartment with 3 other girls. Unfortunately, 2 of the girls are graduating in the spring and can't re-sign with us for next year. The other girl and I are currently looking for 2 other girls to fill the empty spaces up.
Where: Courtyards
When: 2027-2028 School year
Preferences: Both her and I are quiet-moderately social. We're both quite clean and don't do any drugs (including weed/cigarettes). I also don't mind exchanging socials :)
Rent/Apt information: Right now, the 4x4 option is $990 (utilities included). There is also a small gym, pool in the summer, and free printer at the club house. Parking is also free at the apartment. I normally take the bus to my classes and have never had an issue.
I'm open to answering any questions or talking further if interested!

OOS (from CA and probably not going to get into any competitive in-state publics); High income (edit: high 6 - low 7 figs, no student loans needed), Asian female
3.62UW/3.95W - upward trend, around 3.8 each sem since 10th grade but I have a C and D on my transcript and consistently got Bs in core subjects
1550 SAT (780M 770RW)
9 APs including senior year (54555 on previous exams), 1 honors, 6 dual enrollments - good STEM rigor in 11th and 12th (AP Stats, Calc 2, AP Bio, Honors Physics; AP Chem, AP Physics C Mechanics, AP Physics C E&M, Multivar, Linalg)
I'd say 7.5/10 ECs, 5/10 awards, decent essays, definitely bad LORs (I've transferred high schools 3x so I don't know my teachers well)
Applying to a non-LEP STEM major in EA
Am I cooked?
Hello,
I’m a student at UMD, College Park. Yesterday, after shopping at the local Trader Joe’s, and during walking back to my apartment building on Knox road, I dropped my wallet containing my student ID, some credit and debit cards, other IDs, some cash and a key fob (I know I dropped it at some point on this route because I took my credit card out of my wallet to pay for my groceries and couldn’t find the wallet again once I reached my building). I have come back on this route a couple times to find it but have not been able to. I have also asked for help from the TJ and the local police. Please, if you have seen it or happened to pick it up, please let me know. I would appreciate it a lot.
C’mon guys! Do you even want Maryland to win? You gotta stop touching the extremely cursed and utterly evil fake testudos. If it’s bronze, turtle shaped, and not on McKeldin mall, you should stay away

As current or former students, what do you think needs to be done/improved on or around campus for the better? This can be transportation, buildings, dorms, classroom, etc.
My group and I are aiming to create a website or app for a year long engineering research program and eventually present it, but we’re debating what to focus it on.

I just received a guitar as a gift and broke the high e string while trying to tune it. Attempted to fix it with the 2 extras I got and broke both of them... :( Would any UMD guitar players be generous enough to provide me with a new one and help me restring it? I would go to Atomic Music but I don't have a car so if there's anyone on campus that could help, I would be really grateful :) Thank you!!
