Question Anyone going home to St Simons/Brunswick for the Florida/Halloween weekend?
I will pay for gas and snacks.
I know some people have discussed this here before, but as a bus driver who started as a student, I thought I should share some important information about our transit system. While this is primarily for new students, there are a lot of students who go through here and never learn any of this.
*If you are uncertain about anything, ask the driver; however, they may not be able to respond if the bus is in motion, so it is best to ask when the bus is stopped at a bus stop or red light.
*UGA.passiogo.com (formerly routes.uga.edu; now a redirect) is more accurate for tracking the buses than the UGA app.
*The cameras and microphones are on at all times. Anything you say or do will be recorded.
*Scooters, motorized skateboards, one wheels, and anything motorized, with the exception of wheelchairs and other mobility devices required for medical purposes, are not allowed on the buses.
*Buses can only load and unload passengers at designated bus stops. This is for safety reasons. If you ask the driver to unload elsewhere, you will be denied.
*If a bus's destination sign is flashing "Out of Service" in between a route name, that means the bus is going out of service in the next 30 minutes and you can still ride to the last stop. It is not actually out of service until the sign reads "Not in Service".
*If a driver sits at a stop for a few minutes without moving, this is usually because they are ahead on their route, and need to let the other drivers get spaced out better. This often happens after class breaks and other episodes of heavy traffic that messes up spacing.
*During class breaks and other peak times, buses become VERY crowded. If you are standing on a crowded bus, you should take your backpack off and move towards the back. The bus cannot move until all passengers are behind the standee line.
*If you need on a bus that is about to/starting to pull away from a stop, wave at the driver (or their mirrors if you are behind the bus), and they will usually stop and let you on. If they don't, it is probably because they are having to watch the road in order to safely pull out into traffic. This happens very commonly at the Arch and Main Library.
*Buses will occasionally go off route in order to maintain spacing. The driver will usually notify the passengers in advance, however, and ask if anyone needs any of the bypassed stops before proceeding.
*While drivers do have to take breaks, they are not supposed to do so during class breaks unless it is urgent.
*Stop requests are unnecessary, except for on Night Campus, Prince Milledge, Weekender, and a few stops on Health Sciences, Vet Med, Riverbend Connector (formerly Greenhouse Shuttle), and Milledge Avenue. If a stop is on demand, the annunciator will announce "please signal to exit" or "please pull the cord to exit" in advance.
*While buses are required to stop for pedestrians, they are also extremely heavy, and can't stop on a dime. If you are approaching a crosswalk and see a bus approaching, don't cross. You might as well be walking in front of a train.
*Which brings me to my next point: ALWAYS stop and look both ways before crossing a street. The electric buses are very quiet, and especially hard to hear if you're on your phone or have earbuds in. If you cross a street without looking (especially if it isn't a designated crosswalk) and get hit, the bus driver will likely not be at fault if they are driving safely and obeying all traffic laws.
*If you are riding a scooter, bike, one wheel, etc., do not cut right in front of a bus, especially if the bus is in motion.
*If a bus is closed and pulling away from a stop that you need, do not make physical contact with the bus to alert the driver if it is already in motion. You could be seriously injured or worse.
*Cars, bikes, scooters, and any other vehicles are NOT allowed to pass buses when they are stopped in road on a two-lane. While people do it all the time, it is extremely dangerous.
*If you have to exit the bus and cross the street at a location without a crosswalk, do NOT cross in front of the bus. If a car decides to (illegally) pass the bus, you could get hit.
*Food and drinks are not allowed on the night routes after midnight. This is because the smell causes passengers who are drunk to become nauseated and throw up. If someone throws up on a bus and any of the contents get outside of a garbage can or bag, the driver has to remove all passengers and take the bus out of service.
*If a bus's destination sign says "Help! Call 911!", this is a distress signal that is used during the event of an emergency where the driver is unable to radio for help. We have never had a situation requiring this feature to be used, and if you see it, it was most likely activated by accident. However, you don't know that, so you should call 911 just in case it is a real emergency.
UPDATE: The "Out of service" message has been replaced with "This bus ends. Ask for last stop" and "Last bus". The former means that particular bus is going out of service and other buses will remain on the route. The latter means the entire route is going out of service for the day.

Where can I find relatively cheap parking for tomorrow's game? I'm OK with walking a little bit. I just don't want to spend no more than $50.

Will I still be able to go to the Tech vs UGA game?

I feel pretty close to my cohort 9 weeks in but that’s about it. I’m not doing much out and about and in Athens and the other clubs I’m in I don’t feel really connected with anyone, despite sharing hobbies I have interest in. A big part of picking this school for me were the social opportunities, but I just haven’t found that yet. I also feel weird being not really removed from undergrad age-wise, yet definitely feeling that split between myself and the undergraduate population.
Any thoughts? Ideas? Rants? I’m all ears 👂

Hello! I'm a prospective pharmD student and I'm currently looking at which college is best for me. I know I want to go into a communications-heavy role (preferably with lots of writing and corresponding between different professionals about research and literature, somewhere in the medical affairs space). If any pharmD alumni who went into industry are willing to talk with me (DM or email) about their experiences in UGA and their recommendations, I'd greatly appreciate it!

So I’m currently a senior MIS major at GCSU and don’t get me wrong I’ve loved my time and the education I’ve gotten at the school. I’ve made lifelong friends, made many great relationships with professors, joined many clubs, Greek life and all of that. But I kind of have an itch that I regret not transferring to UGA for my junior or senior year. Im currently looking into going to grad school after I finish my undergrad this spring, and I was wondering how some of yalls experience with UGA’s business/MIS grad school programs are and if you enjoy it/think its worth it.

hello everyone, i just transferred to uga (20m) and it is kicking my ass hard. i transferred from a very easy small school and im on the pre terry and pre law track. my gpa before was a 3.76 but gpa resets here. everything is much harder than expected and im bombing a lot. i dropped my accounting class bc of how badly i failed the first exam (very very very bad) and i just learned i failed my first exam in macro as well. i think if i rlly rllly rlly try, i could finesse a B in macro but not sure. main point here is that im just worried for my gpa. i’m a jr and i only have 9 credit hrs now so im a bit worried ab what’ll happen to me (i think i have 50 credit hrs left) i still need to apply to terry and then i have law school to worry ab. i have never felt like such a failure before. does it get better?? do any other transfers have any advice ab this? i’m so worried, haven’t rlly been able to eat or sleep…

I was just accepted into the Oxford Spring II program as an English major. I need four English classes to graduate on time, but there is only one English seminar offered. Therefore, I would have to take three tutorials and one seminar instead of the recommended two and two.
Any English majors have experience taking three tutorials? I don’t want to be overworked, but I’m wondering if it’s doable.

Hello, I have been thinking about transfering to UGA from my HBCU my second semester of sophomore year. And I was just wondering for my in state students, how much is your tuition each semester. I want to see if I'll be able to afford the school. I qualify for HOPE (not Zell Miller) and I have max federal aid. I plan on living in the on campus dorms, and I plan on switching from CS to EE or CE.
Also if there's anything I need to know about the school, dorm, programs, anything. Please share, anything will help.

There will be a group of six people playing football at the intramural fields at 4:00pm on Friday. If you’re a college student that wants to come out and play you’re more than welcome. We’re a casual group so don’t worry if you haven’t played much football before.

How hard is it to get into the fall Franklin Oxford study abroad as a Terry major? My gpa’s 3.5 and I know the people that get in usually have a high gpa, but I’m really passionate about this and want to know my chances.
I applied early decision and want to know what are the chances of being waitlisted, how easy it is to get off the waitlist, or anything of the sort. Thank you!

I just ordered for them to be sent but idk if I need to cancel and switch to rush order because the due date for early action is Oct 15. I saw online that there's a grace period past the deadline for offical scores, but Idk how true that is. please HELP

Does anyone know where the best place would be to take an interview near Terry? I have a 30 minute 9:15 interview that I’d like tot take in or close to Terry to get to my 9:55 class on time.
I found the Terry interview booth website but I have no idea how to reserve myself a spot.

I’m writing this for my girlfriend since she doesn’t use Reddit and doesn’t want this connected back to her.
She has a bio professor and she was meaning to take an exam Thursday Oct 8th. She, however came down with a sickness on Tuesday. She fought it to the best of her ability, but it won over and Wednesday I took her to UHC to get checked out. She got diagnosed and got a prescription to deal with it. She is much better now. It seems for her to have gotten a make-up exam, she would have had to submit the form prior to her exam start time(which was 8:15am). She got the doctor’s note on Wednesday and decided she needed to go home 1.5 hrs away to be with her parents whom could take care of her best. She slept most of the car ride back, and when she got home passed out on the couch. She couldn’t even make it to her bed, poor thing. She submitted the make-up exam request form the following day, the day of the exam, after her exam took place, since she was sleeping until after 8am, as you normally do when you are sick. She then got an email from her prof later on Friday stating that she couldn’t make up the exam since she submitted it after the exam took place, and the syllabus states that the make up request must be submitted “PRIOR” to the exam taking place. This class has 4 exams worth 45% of the final grade, meaning missing one exam would cost you 11.25% of your entire grade. Upon realizing this, my gf started bawling her eyes out and called me to come console her. I promptly helped her to write out a follow up email explaining the situation and that she physically and emotionally couldn’t submit the make up request and that she was in bed all night, unable to submit the form. She also pointed out that she is an “A” student and really enjoys the prof’s class, she would be saddened if missing one exam would drop her grade an entire letter grade, and for something that was entirely outside of her control. I find it extremely funny that one word in the syllabus that barely no one looks at (even though my gf looks very thoroughly through each syllabus she gets, but just missed or forgot about this) would be able to cost 11.25% of a student’s entire grade. I had her point this out in the email. She took some time to look through the email and sent it out to the prof. On Monday, prof responded saying my gf couldn’t take the exam since she has to stick to syllabus policy, and it would be unfair to give special treatment, even though I think this would be the situation for special treatment, since she was sick. I also find it funny that most syllabi, even this one, state that the prof reserved the right to change syllabus at any time for any reason given the prof deems necessary, but this doesn’t seem fit for a special accommodation to occur in their opinion. This prof seems very strict on their wording and isn’t willing to compromise for a special circumstance. I believe she should be given the chance to take the exam since she otherwise wouldn’t be given a grade based on her knowledge of the course. This wouldn’t even be a loss of grade since she “didn’t manage her time well,” she was literally sick and couldn’t stay awake to get on her phone to submit it. I think it’s really quite stupid, for lack of a better term, that this is all even having to be dealt with. She was sick and should be granted the opportunity to take the exam to showcase her knowledge on the material.
My ask is for my writing on Reddit to reach someone that could help or to reach someone who knows someone that could help so she could take her exam. The make up request has other times and days that would work for a make up, the prof just decided that since my gf submitted it after their very specific approval window, she shouldn’t be given the opportunity to take the exam. The last date that was given to take the make up exam would be this Thursday, Oct 15th, so any help before then would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if anyone can help. Thank you for reading.

Looking for some input on my chances of getting accepted from those who already went through the process. I'm applying EA as a GA resident and I'm hoping to get accepted to Morehead, but honestly I'm okay with getting in regular or even transfering.
I know nothing about admissions advice is definitive, but I'd still appreciate it nevertheless. Thank you in advance!

hi! i'm doing a class research project for my fintech class at uga. we're looking at how uga students feel about AI handling shopping and payments, like an assistant that picks something and buys it for you.
we're trying to reach 500 responses by sunday, oct 25th. it takes less than 5 minutes, and finishers can enter a raffle for a $50 gift card!
happy to answer any questions here. thank you so much for helping out!!

Can anyone share their experience with this "class"? I want to do it next semester, but I have no idea how to start preparing. I'm already in a research lab.

Hi, I am a current freshman at UGA and for 2027-2028 I want to live in Soule Hall. I am thinking of doing a double super suite. My current roommate and I would be roommates again, but we want our additional roommates to be our 4 other friends (since there are 3 rooms). Is there any way to make sure that we would have them in our suite with us? Or will they just be randoms? If im doing a super suite I dont wanna live with randoms.

Hey everyone! I know this has been spoken about before on this thread, but I'm interested in potentially becoming a student equipment manager for the Georgia football team, and I'd love to hear from anyone who has experience with the program!
I understand that working with a major college football program like UGA's is probably pretty competitive, and I realize that getting a position isn't guaranteed and it may not be likely I'll be chosen. I'm still interested in learning more about the opportunity, though, and I'd especially appreciate hearing from people who have actually gone through the application and selection process.
I have a few questions:
I'm not expecting to get a position just by expressing interest, and I know it may be a long shot. I'd just like to understand what the opportunity realistically looks like, what I could do to improve my chances, and whether it's something worth pursuing.
Thanks so much for any insight or advice! Go Dawgs! ❤️🖤
