Defensive 2nd half adjustments vs DeBoer
I was curious how Kirby has adjusted to DeBoer's offensive schemes at Alabama, after noticing how they score much less in the 2nd half even when we lose. So I dug into box scores going back to 2024 when DeBoer started, and using only SEC opponents as a comparison I found the results pretty glaring.
Vs the SEC, Kirby's defense has allowed in 23 games:
- 247 1st half points
- 231 2nd half/OT points
- 16 less points allowed in 2nd half
Vs the SEC without Alabama, Kirby's defense has allowed in 19 games:
- 179 1st half points
- 210 2nd half/OT points
- 31 more points allowed in 2nd half
Vs only Alabama with DeBoer, Kirby's defense has allowed in 4 games:
- 68 1st half points
- 21 2nd half points
- 57 less points allowed in 2nd half
So maybe I get to feel like Kevin McCallister yelling out to Old Man Marley that "I'm not afraid anymore" or maybe I don't. But even in our big losses to DeBoer, we seemed to have figured something out about his schemes and really clamp it down, drastically, compared to the rest of the SEC. If our offense keeps it rolling, it's a near guarantee that 2nd half Bama is going to struggle vs our defense, home or away.
All SEC opponents:
| Year | Opponent | First Half Allowed | Second Half Allowed | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | Kentucky | 6 | 6 | W |

Football Three Picks and a Score, Week 7 - Deep South's Oldest Rivalry Edition, UGA vs. Auburn
I don't know about y'all, but it took me several hours to get to sleep Saturday night. That was something else, to say the least. No matter how much anyone whines about it, Georgia walked into BDS and proved themselves the better team. And that's something to be very proud of.
Did you know that UGA has only lost once as the AP #1 team? That was against Auburn back in 1942. I don't know if that's an ill omen or what, but it is an interesting bit of history that I learned earlier this week.
Before we get too deep into Auburn, though, I want to say a few more words about the Alabama game and our own contest here. First and foremost, Gunner Stockton was phenomenal out there, putting up Mewtwo-esque numbers. Reddell looked like Gengar out there slipping tackles and flying down field. Peanut ran better than Jolteon through the rapacious offensive line. And in case you can't tell, I'm very much enjoying the All-22 Pokemon game. This is my official/unofficial endorsement. It's so much fun, especially if you grew up on Pokemon like I did. And it has done wonders for getting my own kids into football, so kudos to the Pokemon football people!
Props go out to the depressed wildcat, u/Glum-Lynx-8751, on winning this week's contest at 2-1. They predicted that Reddell or Luckie would be in the top three of all receivers (check), Gunner would have a rushing TD (check), and that Bama would have more than 130 passing yards in the first half and fewer than 60 in the second (no, but really close). There were a handful of 2-1 picks this week, but the Feline In Need of Therapy had the best score prediction at UGA winning 20-13.
Did you know that Auburn's mascot, Warteaglsmen, could also be a good Pokemon character? Just imagine it. Striped feathers everywhere? That'd be something.
(I know Auburn mascot humor is low hanging fruit, but it fit the theme.)
Dawgs kickoff against Auburn in the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry at 3:30pm on Saturday with a chance to claim the longest winning streak in the series by either team. Take nothing for granted, but take everything as your own. Make sure to get those picks in on time, and GO DAWGS!
(And just for fun, feel free to tell me which Pokemon you would add to this year's Bulldog roster and at what position. Personally, I think Charizard at tight end would be pretty brutal, but I can't say enough about that Mewtwo to Gengar connection on offense. That ghost is freaky fast.)

Football Double standard in scheduling with Auburn.
Isn't it curious that Auburn got the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry moved from the end of the year to earlier so that they don't have to play us and Bama back to back but we do it without complaining? Lets win the Alabama state title this weekend. Go Dawgs.

The birth of a rivalry (UGA- Bama)?
I’ll try to be concise:
- I’ve long denied that bama is a real rival. We have at least 5 or 6 teams with better claims as being actual historical rivals (GT, Auburn, UF, SC, Tennessee, Clemson)
- Lately it feels like a real rivalry was established this last 10 years though. For me personally, bama fans never accepting an actual loss and claiming it was only due to injuries or refs or whatever bs irritates the hell out of me.
- Nail in the coffin: Two years ago I caught myself cheering when Tennessee beat bama. When I think about their game this weekend, I’m honestly hoping Tennessee beats bama again. Lots of things have to go wrong for me to cheer for a team that chooses to wear orange on the football field (much less a low level rival like UTK).
So what we say, is it a rival?

Game day recommendations
Hey folks, I’m heading to Athens for the game this weekend and I’ve never been before. Are there public tailgating areas? Does the team walk in to the stadium where fans can watch? What’s the best things to do on game day?
