Hello! I 28f got a text from my coworker 21f about our job. No I am not a manager or a higher up. The same job description.
She is asking me if she should take off tomorrow. I said no. You have 12 points already. They would fire you. I would use that extra point for your doctors appointment.
They would fire you. She told me that I’m not understanding.
I know from other coworkers that if you get 12 or 14 points they will fire you.
You can get half or all if it taken away once next year rolls around.

She did text me saying that the boss called her selfish and self centered. And that she is using the system.
I am trying to understand her🤷‍♀️but I think she she wait until next week.

TLDR; my coworkers is wondering if she should take tomorrow off. I said no. You will be fired. She is telling me that I don’t understand her

Listener Write In AITAH for calling my fiance "a little rapey"

Hello friends, fellow long-time THT listener here. Please help me with my situation rn as my fiance is dragging this fight on- insisting the only problem this morning was my comment

Background- my fiance (27m) and I (26f) have been dating for 3 years. He has always been very forward with sex, bought be a vibrator and lingerie a few weeks after begining to date. I didnt mind, really- this isnt a red flag to me, especially at that point.

I wouldn't say that my libidio keeps up with his necessarily, but for a while, he was pretty respectful of that.

As time went on he would express more and more disappointment over it if I said no, sometimes asking "tonight then?" "Tomorrow?" Etc.

If it had been a few days, often he'd make little comments about how we "never have sex anymore" etc.

Eventually, he'd start asking to finish himself on me if I don't want to have sex. Sometimes I say yes, sometimes I say no.

At some point fairly recently we had a big fight about it, because he consistently asked me to participate in a kink I wasn't interested in, and said he wants to get another girlfriend so that she can do that to him and I wont have to be asked anymore. This really triggered me, I've never wanted an open relationship and still dont. We almost broke up (were not engaged yet), but had a calmer conversation about it later on that was more productive.

Well recently I had been "putting out" a little more, just got into reading some romance books, probably a little more motivated. And it seems to have resparked this untoward advances. Asking about it morning and night, flashing me even when I say put it away. He'll come up and grab me when I'm doing things, even though that may be a normal part of a relationship, the added expectation feels too much and makes me feel uncomfortable. Which I have explained. Im not the type of woman who gets turned on just at the thought of having sex. He is the type of man who thinks showing off his dick or grabbing my tits is romance.

So the last few days I've been coming down with a sinus cold. A huge headache, and have expressed this to him. We had sex three nights ago- he has since asked for sex the following morning, night, yesterday morning and night, and this morning.

I continuously told him no, that I'm not feeling well.

He called me on my commute (2hrs long) this morning and we complained together about traffic. I told him I'm unsure if my commute is worth staying at the job anymore. He told me I'll have to move to another town (as a joke, but the town he mentioned is equally as far as our house)

As I was saying this, he said "it wouldn't matter anyway, Id still get the same amount of sex" with two interpretations that he'd either move another gf in (he continues to make jokes like this) or that I never give him sex anyway.

This is where I may be the Asshole. I got really upset at this, saying "how dare you continuously insinuate that I am not enough for you, that I NEVER have sex with you, how dare you say that if I dont give you sex morning and night that you must never have sex. I have never met another 27 year old man who is so obsessed with getting his dick wet, and honestly the amount of pressure that you put on me, some people would consider kind of rapey."

This obviously struck a chord because he went silent. And after a few minutes I asked him if he even understands what I said and why I would be upset. He made me repeat myself, then told me that nothing he could add would be productive. I told him, saying sorry and that he would try not to make me feel that way would be productive. And he said, begrudgingly, "ill try not to make you feel that way." Which hardly feels like an apology.

So AITAH for calling my fiance, "a little rapey"

Update UPDATE! (AITA for cutting of my MIL and SIL after they said there’s no longer a relationship)

Hello again!

So it’s been a hot minute since I posted my original post but I had several people request an update sooo here it is!

I’m gonna start off by saying thank you to everyone who commented on my original post, unfortunately the reason for the late update is a mix of good and bad.
Late in September while still being at my in-laws house, I ended up miscarrying my twins, I’m still reeling from that, and reeling from the fact that my MIL tried to make it all about her feelings because I was avoiding literally everybody in the house. She told my fiance that she was hurt that I was avoiding her.
She compared my miscarriage to one she had and kept telling me “at least it was….” (Insert whatever miscarriage “silver lining” possible)

The good news is we finally got our own place! We moved early in October, got out of my in-laws in a couple of days.
Since then my fiance and I have gone minimal to borderline no contact. My MIL kept trying to invite herself over to help us move, two days into us being out of her house she messaged my fiance that she missed her grandbaby, she also tried to convince my fiance to let her take some family photos of us after we were settled.
All of these were answered with a no, especially the family photo comment because she posts all her photography stuff on her Facebook page and I have been unfriended since AUGUST.
I haven’t heard from my SIL since we moved.
My fiance and I have been able to cook again, and trying to get back to being healthy. Our son is happy and thriving, he’s finally sleeping through the night consistently, and he’s doing great without all the extra stress. My dog and cat are also doing a million times better now.

My MIL started another fight resulting in the borderline no contact after my fiance and I removed ourselves from her Life360 circle. We still talk to my FIL and he’s doing as ok as possible all things considered.

Update UPDATE: I found out my fiancé asked me out because of a $20 bet

Hi everyone! I honestly didn't expect so many responses to my post. I read through a lot of your comments and some of them actually helped me understand why I was so upset.

It wasn't really about the $20. It was more about knowing that everyone else had been in on this little secret for four years, even when I was happily telling our story at our engagement party. Anyway, I talked to my fiancé again. I explained that I wasn't questioning his love for me, I just felt stupid being the only person who didn't know. This time he actually listened. He apologized for keeping it from me and for making me feel like I was overreacting.

We ended up talking about the night we met. He told me he'd noticed me at the birthday party before his friends even brought up the bet. He'd been trying to find the courage to talk to me for a while, and the $20 was just the final push. He also admitted he wanted to disappear when he knocked over that poor person's glass lol. I always thought that part was adorable.

A couple nights later we went out for dinner, just the two of us. Somehow we started talking about that night again and ended up laughing so hard about the whole thing. I still wish he'd told me sooner but I don't feel embarrassed about it anymore. Our story didn't start exactly how I thought it did and that's okay.

Four years later, he's still the same nervous guy I fell in love with and I'm still excited to marry him.

And yes, I told him he owes me that $20 😂

Listener Write In AITAH for thinking my husbands behavior on the road is divorce worthy?

I F25 and my husband M31 have a a year old little boy. He is the best thing that’s ever happened to me and I am unable to have any more children because of health issues which I think can contribute to my anxiety about the safety and wellbeing of my son.
My husband is a terrible driver. He gets angry, he speeds through yellow lights, he honks, he swerves. It’s honestly the biggest point of contention for us because it bothers me but it really pisses me off when the baby is in the car as well. It makes me feel like he doesn’t care about the safety of myself or of our baby. We also live in a community where there are tons of road rage incidents where guns are pulled or fights break out. I’ve voiced my concerns MULTIPLE times and have never gotten through to him. The last time (today) he told me I was I was never on his “side” when things like this come up. I’m at a loss for what to do next. I feel like if anything happened to me or my baby I would fully dive into psychosis and never look back. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Advice Needed AIO when my boyfriend invited me to go to a cosplayer's Asian tour?

My 35 M boyfriend really likes this certain pornstar, Sweetie Fox, who is also a cosplayer. I, 32 F, was actually the one who introduced her to him. I've known she was a pornstar, but I really liked her for being a visual artist. She draws cool anime-like illustrations. And yes, she's also a cosplayer. Since introducing her to my boyfriend, she had been his favorite. I don't mind it that much because I know the likelihood of them meeting in person is far from reality so I just let him fantasize about her. Although there are circumstances when I would feel a bit insecure whenever he so comfortably opens up about how she's really hot and cute at the same time. That she has a banging body with a face of an angel. Granted that I am in no way close to how Sweetie Fox's body look like, he never really gave me any compliment about my physical appearance, although he was always appreciative of me in other aspects. He messaged me out of the blue this afternoon asking if I wish to come with him to see Sweetie Fox on her next Asian tour. I answered coldly with a "no." To me, it feels like he's asking me to spend money to go to another country to watch him ogle at another woman. I may let him indulge about his appreciation for Sweetie at times, but I just feel like he's too dense and can be really insensitive sometimes. Am I overreacting?

Advice Needed Title: Is it normal for your partner to ask for a heads-up before sharing devastating medical news so they can mentally prepare?

I recently received some really sad medical news yesterday, and today I decided to share it with my partner.
He had a very long and exhausting day, which I completely understand. However, when I told him the news, he mentioned that in the future, he’d appreciate it if I gave him a heads-up before sharing something so heavy, so he could mentally prepare himself and show up better for me emotionally.
I understand where he’s coming from, and I know he probably meant well. But at the same time, I was sharing something incredibly painful and frightening about my own health.
It made me feel a little confused and hurt because I didn’t realize I needed to prepare my partner before telling him something devastating that I’m personally going through.
I don’t expect him to have all the right words or react perfectly. Sometimes I just want to feel like I can turn to the person I love when something terrible happens.
I’m genuinely trying to understand both perspectives here.
Is it reasonable for a partner to ask for advance notice before receiving difficult news, or is it fair to expect emotional support without having to prepare them
I’d really appreciate some honest perspectives.

Listener Write In Dating in my 30s

I (30F) started dating Sam (33M) a couple of months ago. We’ve known each other since 2022 though as we’re co-workers. He ended up giving me the key to his house. I was surprised at first, but I took it anyways. He seemed happy to give it to me and I really liked him.

I would go to his house often. Since we both work a lot, we’d have a lot of game and movie nights. We went out, did all nighters on the phone, and have been passionately intimate. He told me that I was welcome to come to his house whenever I wanted. If I wanted to do laundry at his house, I could because I don’t have a washer and dryer in my apartment. He told me I was welcome to whatever I wanted in his house and that it would soon be my house anyways. If I was off and he worked that day, he would go to work and leave me in his house without a problem. He would tell me that he wanted me to be there when he got back from work.

There have been times where I stayed back home and told him that I wanted to come over but didn’t because he didn’t answer his phone. He would ask why I didn’t just come over because I have the key. I asked him if he would be OK with this and he said yes.

Lately I’ve been going over often and he didn’t seem to mind it. I would sleep over and he would ask me if I was coming back the next night and the next night. I figured he loved having me over. Yesterday we did dinner and a movie at his house and I slept over. We had a disagreement before we left to work separately, but kissed and said goodbye before we parted ways. We didn’t want anyone at work to know about us, so we never drove together.

Tonight, I went to his house to surprise him. I’ve done this before. I had called and texted him earlier and he didn’t respond so I figured he was sleeping. Because he said I can come over whenever I wanted, I went over without saying anything.

He doesn’t usually hear me come in. His house is pretty big and his room door is always closed with the fan on. I opened the room door and wanted to surprise him even further. I wanted to call him and then answer while standing right behind him to spoke him (since it’s October). I called him and watched him sigh, ignore my call and say “Kira what the hell. Why are you calling me?” He then swiped my name away. I was so shocked. I then asked loudly why he ignored my call. He said “what” confusingly and then I left.

He didn’t come after me. He didn’t call me. I left, but then I called him again and he answered. I asked if I could get anything that I left at his house that night. I didn’t want to come back. He said yes. I came back and started searching for my clothes. He came downstairs and asked what the hell was going on in his house. I told him that I was looking for the clothes that I said two minutes ago I’d be picking up. I took his key off of my key ring and left it on his dining room table.

He honestly seemed like he didn’t care. It was like a complete 180 of the person that I was with the day before. I wish I could say I was surprised, but I wasn’t (that’ll have to be another post). I asked him why he ignored my call and he said that he wanted to be alone but I just showed up. I asked him why he didn’t just say that. He said that he felt like I would think he was joking. I told him if he seriously told me he wanted to be alone that I would honor it because I feel the same way sometimes. When I want to be alone, I don’t come over.

I reminded him of what he said, that he gave me a key so I can come over whenever I wanted. He told me that he didn’t meet every day. This surprised me because that’s not the impression he gave. He asked me to come over so much that it eventually led to him saying that he wanted me to move in. Literally last night at this time, he was talking about remodeling certain things in his house for me.

I had never felt so embarrassed, ashamed and unwanted. In that split second I asked myself if I was being too clingy. Maybe I am too clingy. Should I have not believed him when he said that I can come over whenever I wanted?

I feel like I can’t stop crying because I actually fell for him. I know I’m 30, but before him I was in only one relationship. I had a strict Caribbean mom, so I wasn’t allowed to date or be around boys at all. To be honest I don’t know too much about dating other than what I see online. My mom didn’t date either, so she couldn’t teach me. I don’t know what I did wrong.

Listener Write In My (24M) father (49M) ruined my life. And he’s still trying to ruin it more.

I don't even know how to write this out, and it feels so weird but I just want to put my life out there somewhere. I originally posted this on a burner account but I decided to just post it on main anyway. I just need some kind of peace knowing that the whole story is out there somewhere, cause no one in my life really knows all of it. Sorry that it's such a long post literally a novel, but well, it's literally just most of my life story of how my dad ruined it.

When I was around 2-3 years old, my dad cheated on my mom for the first time, I don't have any memory of that of course but in later years I found out that was when my mom considered something drastic for the first time. She decided not to do that and was gonna stay with her parents for a bit after that, and apparently I must've known something at that age because I was crying and wanted to go with her and didn't wanna stay with my dad. Intuition I guess.

One of the first incidents like this that I have an actual memory of is when I was around 10 years old. My dad would go out to the bar all the time and drink till he couldn't even walk straight. My mom would be forced to go and pick him up at 3 am from the bar, and sometimes I had to come along too cause she couldn't leave me home alone in the middle of the night. I remember being scared of my dad every time he drank, he didn't abuse me or my mom, at least not physically. Mentally is a whole other thing.

But I just felt unsettled at how much he didn't seem like himself, that stuck with me forever cause it happened every time he drank too much. This kind of thing happened a lot where he would drink till late hours, then mom would be forced to go pick him up, guess i didn't think much of it back then cause it just happened so often it became normal. Once the three of us moved out of my dad's parent's house, I remember one of the really major incidents.

It was another late night of my dad drinking, but I guess this time he must've been talking to other girls or something (I'm assuming now because of what I know about him, but at the time just thought this came out of nowhere.) My mom was texting and calling him telling him he should come home now, and I guess he just snapped. He told her to pack her bags and get out of the house. Now of course my mother couldn't help but break down and cry, and I don't blame her. I know people say you shouldn't show this kind of emotion and stuff in front of your kid but man she didn't really have a great support system for herself and i don't regret being there for her.

So just imagine 11 year old me getting my iPad out and trying to text my father begging him to come home while I was crying and sitting with my mom, telling her not to divorce him while she kept saying she wanted to. I regret ever trying to convince them to stay together, I wish I knew enough back then to tell her that yes she should have divorced him. But I was just a kid man, of course I wanted my parents to stay together I didn't know any better. I don't really remember how this incident resolved but eventually it just faded away and we went back to "normal" life.

Sometime in between this and 2016, was when I started to realize how different I want from other kids. In more ways than one. I always had strange behaviors growing up, everyone just thought I was a weird kid. But eventually I ended up being diagnosed with Autism. It all started to make sense all the things in my life that never felt quite right.

Being Autistic never bothered me, but it did make me struggle with some things others flourished at. Being social, having life skills that I think are basic for most people. But none of that mattered too much to me when I was young. This was also around the time I started to realize that I was gay. I didn't know what my parents would think, and I didn't have any plans to come out to them any time soon because I was too scared.

I was able to tell a few friends of mine and felt comfortable with them, they supported me. Turns out this backfired because one night after I had come back from a movie with one of my friends, I paid for his movie ticket just cause I felt like doing something nice for him. Anyway my dad was convinced that this friend forced me to buy his ticket, and he ended up going through my phone. That's when he discovered the texts I had with my friends where I talked about being gay. And my parents ended up grounding me and taking everything away for a few hours.

My mom came and sat down with me and asked me if I was sure, then cried because she said she wanted grandkids. Remember how I said my mom was super nice and everything earlier? That's still completely true. I firmly believe she only had this sort of closed mindset because of my father. Because in later years and up to current day, she supports me fully. She even bought me makeup when I was thought I was into that during the MUA YouTube years. (I ended up not liking makeup lol) but she even painted my nails and stuff for me when I wanted it.

My dad on the other hand never talked about it, but obviously he didn't support me. The night they found out, he told me "I love you because you're my son, but I can never accept "that"". I remember one night a few years after this when we're having a party with my cousins. My little cousin just got a new makeup kit and wanted to use it so she painted cherries on my face.

I remember my dad was so shit faced drunk, when he came inside while we were all playing uno, he just grabbed my face, pushed my glasses off my face and just stared at the makeup. He didn't say anything, but the look of disgust on his face just shot right through me. And then he walked off to his room. I cried that night in my bed until I fell asleep.

The next major incident I remember was in 2016 when I was like 14 years old. I don't wanna say exactly where I lived but my town had a massive wildfire and every one had to evacuate. My mom was out of town on a trip with my grandmother and it was just me and my dad home. I remember helping pack up some emergency stuff and bringing our two big dogs in the vehicle and driving out of town as it was literally in a massive blaze. There's only one major highway out of my town and the fire was already in the woods surrounding it so we had to drive through a lot of smoke and haze.

Anyway so while this was all going on and I had no idea if my house was gonna burn down and if I'd have anywhere to live, my dad decided this was the perfect time to cheat on his wife yet again. So we met up with a woman who worked with my dad and he told me it was just out of convenience to stick together, and that she didn't have anywhere to go. We ended up meeting my mom and grandmother at our campground hours outside of town cause we had a camper there.

The woman from my dad's work stayed with us in our camper and took my bedroom. I used to huddle up in the tiny bed in that room when I felt anxious and I definitely could've used it that night, but my father wanted to let his mistress sleep in there, guess that was more important. A couple days of this goes by and one day while my mom is in town getting us food and everything, I look outside and realize my dad and the girl were not around. I didn't know where they went and my mom was already (rightfully) untrusting of him because of his previous cheating.

She had told me to text her if anything happened and since I couldn't find them i did text her, I had no idea what was gonna happen. My mom came back to the campground and confronted my dad who was already drunk by the way in the middle of the afternoon. They ended up getting into a fight and my dad yelled that my mom was "just a bitch who kept taking all his money" to paraphrase. She took off in her car and I remember calling her and crying that she had left me there with him, and begging her to come back. When she drove back, I ran outside and couldn't see her and I asked my grandmother where she went while my grandfather was talking to my dad.

I'll always remember this moment because it felt like a movie which sounds so stupid but I've always thought of it that way, even in the moment when it was happening. I think it was because it just didn't feel like my life, I couldn't believe it was actually happening. My mom ended up being on the shore of the lake of our campground crying, the sun was setting while it was starting to rain outside. I remember the pain in her voice as she cried asking why my father always did this to her, I wish I had an answer to that.

My mother's always been an amazing person. I might be biased but, she's the kind of person where she literally pays for strangers food in lines, gives money to people who need it all the time, donates to charity. And she was never using my father for money like he always said she was. She had a job when we first moved out of my grandparent's house, but he told her to quit because he landed a really huge job in my town.

Anyway back to that time though, I remember walking her back to our camper, and telling my parents to figure things out. I was 14, telling my parents to figure out their issues, trying to act mature. Within that month of this happening, we ended up going to stay at my grandparent's house across the country. Which took us 5 days of driving because we had all of our stuff and our big dogs with us still. Eventually the wildfire got under control and we were allowed to go back home.

Later this same year in 2016, my mom was diagnosed with cancer. I remember not even processing it well at all, I didn't deal with my emotions in a healthy way. Unfortunately one of my dogs in 2016 also developed cancer, and he rapidly declined. I never got to say goodbye to him. I was raised with that dog, he was my best friend.

After my mom had cancer and my dog passed away, combined with everything that happened during the fire, I started to give up on school. And life in general honestly. Before the fire, I remember how well I was doing, I was acing tests, I even took extra math classes just because I wanted to. Most of the other kids in my extra math class were forced into it because they had bad grades, but I was doing it because I wanted to lol. But after the fire, I didn't even try in 9th grade.

During this time when I was dealing with massive depression and anxiety. My father never took it seriously, he would force me to do stuff I didn’t wanna do because he said it would “cheer me up”. When I just wanted to lay in bed all day and cry. He was the kind of guy who doesn’t “believe in mental illness”.

Anyway after all this, we land in 2020. This was a half a year after I had already dropped out of school at this point. The world was in a super scary place as all of you know. My parents had been getting along so I thought, it made me happy when we all were staying in the house together and getting along. I did try getting a job towards the end of the year, but I felt so anxious and dreaded the idea of even going back, that I worked one day and quit. And felt like a total failure.

But fast forward just a couple more years into the future. 2023. That's when all the years of my dad constantly cheating on my mom just finally culminated I guess. One day out of the blue he just sat me down and told me he was going to our camper for a couple days cause he "needed some time to himself". My dad came home a couple days later, and sat both of us down and said he was probably gonna divorce my mom.

She was distraught. Despite everything he had done to her throughout their entire marriage, she still loved him. I don't know how. At this point throughout the last few years, I wasn't close with my dad at all naturally. I resented him quietly for everything he had done, and that was just the stuff I knew about. And I just wanna mention, he did all this a couple months after we just found out my other dog had developed cancer too. And he only had a few months left to live. We found this out in January and my dad did all this sometime in May.

We came to find out later that when he was having his "alone time", he was actually just spending it with yet another girl, in our family camper. We only found this out because that woman's husband messaged my mom on Facebook and told her what he discovered. Now that this was found out, and he already said he was gonna divorce her anyway, mom had had enough. My Uncle's girlfriend works for a lawyer, and we reached out to her and my mom filed the divorce papers and served him.

My Uncle's girlfriend ended up finding us a lawyer in town, and the divorce was officially sent through the court rather quickly. Granting us the right to stay in my childhood home without letting him have access anymore, and setting up spousal support payments. My dad lawyered up and tried to fight the spousal payments. But a judge took one look at his literal over $300,000+ salary and dismissed his attempt to get the amount lowered.

Time went by and me and my mom slowly adjusted to a new life. Things weren't so bad. My other dog lived until August.

Two years later in 2025, my dad wasn't done yet apparently. He had texted me one night and told me that I now had a "beautiful baby sister" that was going to be born in a few months and if I ever wanted to meet her, I could. I almost threw up at this message, because I had always wanted a sibling when I was younger, I would say it to my parents all the time. But having one in this way was just something I would never be able to accept.

At this point in time he had also stopped paying the mortgage for the house for a long time. My mom managed to get the payments transferred to her bank account because of the court order that gave us possession of the house. But now dad got a new lawyer after firing his last one, and was forcing us to sell my childhood home. There wasn't really much we could do to fight back against that, he was the one paying spousal support and we couldn't afford to keep paying for such an expensive mortgage anyway. So we said goodbye to that place and found a decent apartment.

In between this time, he also stopped paying most of the spousal support. He was only paying a fraction of what he was legally court ordered to pay. So while we were moving, my mom took out a small loan because we didn't really have any other options. Unfortunately that loan has been turned into an impossible debt in present times but we had no other choice back when this happened. We also needed the money to pay all the bills my father left us.

Just before he did all of this to my mom, he had her get a new truck for him in his name. And after he ended up leaving, he took the truck with him for a time. All while my mom still had to pay for it because it was in her name. (We still haven't managed to sell it to this day because there's way too much owed on it, and he drove it across the country twice to visit his parents. It was a brand new truck. So now it has way too many miles on it to sell for the price it was bought at back to the dealership.)

While this was all going on, is also when my father decided to text me and tell me that he only had a few months left to live, and that he needed to talk to me. I texted him back but he didn't respond. And the next day he said "nothing was wrong, i just wanted to see if you'd talk to me". Oh and did I mention my grandparents reaction to all of this? My father's parents, who had known my mother for over 20 years. Just decided to fully cut her off.

My dad later on had a second kid. Trying again to file to get spousal support payments lowered because he claimed he "was demoted and no longer made as much money". We know this is a lie because he continues to post about all the new things he's buying, He brought it before a judge, they took a look at his income statements, and denied him yet again because he could clearly afford it. The spousal payments were put through a program that's entire purpose is to enforce payments like this, so he started paying again for a time.

And now we're all caught up to this year, 2026. We had finally gotten used to a new life, things were going well. New apartment, we got some new furniture, were managing to pay off bills. And then suddenly a few months ago, my dad just fully stopped paying spousal support. We had some savings, so we figured we would just hold out until the program started collecting money from him again since he's legally still required to pay it.

The divorce is still not finalized. Because my father refuses to sign half of his pension over to my mother (which again he is legally required to do.) Among other things, he also tried to get my mom in trouble because we had to sell the furniture in the house in order to help us move out of it and get into the new apartment. He claimed it was an unequal division of family property. Which while it is true, we were only in that position because he was paying a fraction of the spousal support he was supposed to. A judge took one look at that and yet again, dismissed it. That was at the start of this year, which is why we believe he stopped the payments all together a few months later. Out of retaliation because he wasn't getting his way.

So we slowly burned through the savings we had. Months went by, and this program still hadn't managed to collect any more money from my father. For the last 3 months we've been borrowing money from family, just waiting and waiting for this program still. If you're wondering why my mother and I never ended up getting a job in all this time, we both are dealing with severe mental health issues.

Throughout these last few months, my mother has told me she has considered something drastic, she even ended up going to the ER (she didn't do anything, but wanted help with those thoughts) and calling a suicide hotline. We talked it through and we decided that we don't want my father to win like this. He doesn't deserve to ruin our lives and then continue on living a normal happy life as if we never existed. We will fight as hard as we can because we deserve to live a happy life to.

My mother also has had health complications for years since she had cancer, mobility issues and nerve damage. So she wasn't supposed to be working. And as for me, the same depression and severe anxiety I've had since 2016 has never gone away. I tried to get jobs in the past, but this overwhelming debilitating anxiety prevented me from going back, I just couldn't handle it.

I realize that I took advantage of my rather cushy life, my dad had a great job. And he would use money and gifts to "make up" for everything he had done, and I just accepted it. I was never forced to get a job, and I fell into complacency because of that combined with just generally being autistic, I feel like I never learned the normal life skills most 24 year old adults have.

Last month, my mom against her doctors wishes, was forced to get a job. We could only borrow so much money from family, they can't support us and all our bills, and themselves too. And this month, I also worked up the courage and effort. And managed to land two jobs. It's been extremely difficult for me, but we have no other options and I wont sit around and let my mother bare this burden by herself while I'm a fully grown adult, even with my hardships.

I have extreme anxiety about having to interact with the public and other coworkers, but luckily both of my jobs are full of extremely nice people. I'm trying my best to overcome all of my mental health issues and work through them. I'm trying my best to stay positive about it, but with the 3 part time jobs in total, we'll be able to just barely afford rent. It all feels so pointless, doing all of this work, and trying so hard to overcome my anxiety and for what. Just so we still can't afford rent anyway?

I just started one job a week ago, and my first real shift at my second isn't until November. I only get paid a fraction of what we need for this month, and the month ends in two weeks. Still waiting on this program to collect money from my dad. Still waiting to hear back from a local program who helps pay rent in our community. Still waiting to hear back from government income support.

And my mom's side of the family (the only family we have left) keeps telling me and my mom that they might not be able to support us anymore as they're running out of money too. And my dad by the way, filed yet again to try and get the spousal support lowered. Claiming that he quit his job and doesn't make as much anymore, but some old friends of my dad who still work at his job. Can clearly see him on the schedule that he's been on parental leave since the start of the year.

I won’t let me father continue to ruin my life. No matter what happens, I’m gonna keep trying my best to live a good life. There’s always a way to make things right and I’ll find it.

So yeah, I know this is a long ass post and I wrote all of this out just for a few people to end up seeing it. But I somehow feel better after letting all of this out. I don't know what's going to happen at the end of this month. But I'm still gonna keep doing all I can, and hope that something finally pulls through for us. I just wanted to get my story out there somewhere. If you read this all the way through, thanks for listening to my life. I wish you the best.

Advice Needed Has anyone ever contacted their ex and had it go well?

I don’t want to get back together with him. It has been nearly a decade of no contact, and we have both moved on with our lives. We met in a cult.

To make a long story short, two young vulnerable people joined a self help group. We had both been in the group for several years. There were arranged relationships, which we participated in. We dated for a year and a half while in the cult.

It went south when he suddenly left. He ended things with me, quit his job, and moved away. Not only was I devastated, but the group hierarchy proceeded to blame me for him leaving. I was not allowed to contact him moving forward.

I left the cult four years ago. I spent years telling myself he was just the crappy boyfriend I had when I was nineteen. Now, I’ve been in therapy and I’m working through some PTSD issues from this period of time.

My therapist has suggested reaching out to my ex to get some closure. We were abused together by a high-control group led by two narcissists. She thinks it might be worth reaching out to talk about some things that happened. I don’t even know where I would begin.

Is this a good idea? I trust my therapist, she is awesome and has helped me heal from a lot of painful experiences in my life. I’ve spoken with and have had many healing conversations with other people I was in the group with. But for some reason, I’m balking at this.

Has anyone had a remotely similar experience of reaching out to an ex that you went through something with? Was it a healthy and productive conversation, or a waste of time?

Again, I have no interest in getting back together with him or being involved romantically at all. I am happily married (honestly!) and my husband is super supportive of my big ole healing journey lol.

Thanks, long time listener and first time poster. This is a throwaway account, but I’m a fan of the show. I need some objective advice from online strangers.

Edit: spelling errors

Listener Write In AITA for asking the woman in my yoga class to move her mat a few inches?

• Upvotes

I take a 7am vinyasa class twice a week. The studio fits about 25 people and on weekday mornings there are usually 8 or 9 of us, so everyone has plenty of room.

For the last month, one woman has been setting her mat right next to mine. Not near me. Right next to me, like 3 inches between the edges. I always take the same spot in the back left corner, and she shows up after me, walks past all the empty floor and lays it down beside me. Every time we put our arms out, our hands hit. Last week her foot landed on my mat during a twist and I almost slipped.

At first I just moved over myself. But I'm in the corner, so there's only so far I can go.

On Thursday before class I smiled and said "Hey, would you mind scooting over a little? We keep bumping into each other." She looked at me like I'd asked for her car keys. She said she likes this spot because of the light, and that I don't own the corner.

I said of course not, I just wanted a bit of space, and that I'd happily take a different spot if she wanted the corner. She picked up her mat, moved to the other side of the room, and told the instructor after class that I was "territorial."

AITA?

TL;DR: In a mostly empty yoga class, a woman keeps putting her mat 3 inches from mine and our hands hit. I politely asked her to scoot over and offered her my spot. She called me territorial.

Advice Needed not letting my future sister in-law back into our lives

Lets start in 2024 when I met my now fiance; we'll call him M. I had 5 children from a previous relationship. That becomes very important.

I got pregnant by M later into 2024, resulting in our now 1 1/2 year old daughter. Things between M and I started out wonderful, and then his sister started coming around. We'll call her A.

Now A always had a problem with me for no apparent reason. The living situation we were currently in from my horrible past relationship wasn't the best, but CPS had visited and cleared my house multiple times. (Remember that, it's important later). After A came around she began to call M everyday and talk to him on the phone literally all day long. She would eventually convince him to come work with her at her job.

Everytime M and I went out, A just HAD to be there. (Envision us meeting her at the zoo and M and A walking around together and myself, very much pregnant and the children, walked together. I'm talking they were 10-15 feet in front of us the entire time. I let this all slide and just assumed they were very close.

Fast forward about a year and a half of keeping my mouth shut. A proceeds to bad mouth me to M on their daily phone calls. I confronted her and stated that it should stop which resulted in A and I getting into our first argument. Basically calling me everything but a white girl. I found out she wasn't just badmouthing me to M, she was doing it with their entire family..

a few months of her sh\\\\\\\*\\\\\\\* talking about everyone she knows to everyone else.

M and our family was invited to a 4th of July party at their dad's and step mothers house, we will call the dad MM and the step mom will be K.

So the entire time we are at this party A is passing her kid off to everyone else so she can drink and have fun all while telling me to pay more attention to my kids who were playing with Pop it's.

So M and I decide that we have had enough and that we will be leaving. M and I are sitting on the front porch talking about when the firework show is and what time we should leave and that is when A comes around the corner telling me to step up if I want to "keep running my mouth" I kinda smiled a little bit because I was confused and said "what's up?" And that's when she charged at me. She ended up having to be saved.

She proceeded to cry and say she was calling CPS because we didn't deserve her kids and that she had pictures of our old house and was going to take us to court, that M had wrapped his arm around her neck when he came behind us, (we know that's not true because he and I knew it was my arm). she's saying something along the lines of "taking the wh\\\\\\\*\\\\\\\*\\\\\\\* side!" So I let out a "I'm a wh\\\\\\\*\\\\\\\*? You treat my house like a brothel and take your pick of your brothers friends. You are married, pregnant with another mans baby and you didn't even think it was either of theirs at first" maybe I went too far, but NONE of it was a lie.

M and I and our children left and went to the firework show. 3 days later, CPS shows up. Pretty much anything she could come up with "domestic abuse" "malnutrition" "their beating the kids" "the house was dangerous" "theyre on drugs and the kids are getting into it" all kinds of crazy. The CPS lady pretty much left like, "oh my gosh none of this is true" so that evening, they get another call. All the same stuff. They come back out, same thing. 2 days later they get ANOTHER call. Pretty much all of the same stuff being said. The case eventually gets closed.

She then made it her life's mission for the next 6 months to absolutely ruin our lives every way she could. She called all of M and Is family and friends and caused them all to stop talking to us, besides their mom.

Their mom loves me and sees the things A is doing and doesn't agree. A decided that she would respond to her mother not taking her side was to lash out. Make everyone hate her too and make her feel like absolute sh\\\\\*\\\\. She's messaging and calling us and saying outrageous crap, she is creating new numbers and accounts when we block her. Fast forward to October, and she's moved in with K and MM and is trying to take M and Is baby, we'll call her V over to see A after M and I made it very clear she was no contact to protect our family and our households peace..

M is now convinced that I should put it behind me because "she has" even though after she blindsided him into a conversation and he told me about it I said she didn't deserve my forgiveness. She immediately sent a message to their mom\* stating she didn't intend on getting my forgiveness and it was solely for the idea that she would be able to see my kids.

I told M that he could go to functions, but the children and I won't be going. He began saying that it'll look dumb for him to go for family functions alone. A has since sent MM and K to get V so they could bring the baby to see her. What do I do.

She's a hazard to my family. I bent over backwards to be nice to her and make her feel included, now I know who she is as a person and want nothing to do with her.

Advice Needed How to Set Boundaries with Property Manager

I (25 F) live in an old home that was converted to two apartment units an upstairs and a downstairs. I originally moved in with Roommate A. She traveled a lot and it was mostly just me in there until she moved out. Roommate A and the property manager (PM) who lives upstairs were very close and she let PM come in the space whenever and use our place to grab the mail instead of going outside. I admittedly just let this happen. After A moved out my close friend who needed a space moved in. Since then PM has constantly annoyed us. Best way I can describe it is she feels like a know it all who wants to be our friend and we should bow in her glory. She also constantly harps on my friend Roommate B. He smokes weed off our property but she insists he does it inside (he does not). Says he and his best friend are always so loud. Shes been over maximum 5 times and majority of the time I dont even know shes there till she says hi.

Recently she went to our apartment and became obsessed with us turning on the heat, even though where I live it was still actively in the 60s during the day and so she went into our place and was convinced my cats peed on this cheap rug I have in their room to catch the litter because it was bunched up. They did not. I am pet sitting for my mom so I drove the hour there to deal with that and she left the lights on so I asked her not to do that and instead of saying sorry she seemed to argue with me. Saying I left them on for my roommate. Which I have asked her not to do in the past. And she has done some things that have made me uncomfortable that I admit I didn't say anything about. With one of my cats. I.e taking him upstairs to her apartment to show him off to friends.

Basically I just want to have her stop coming in my space and start acting like a proper property manager, aka not coming into unless with a valid reason and a 24 hour notice. I just don't know how to do so without damaging the relationship that in my opinion is a bit tense right now. I love my apartment so so much and my landlord. And she has helped me with a bad situation with Roommate A. I can give details about that if needed. So should I wait a bit? And what should I say?

TLDR: Need help telling over involved property manager that she cant use my apartment like she used to.

Listener Write In Men are scary or is it just me at this point?

This is my first post so please be kind, i was not sure where post this, but ultimately i decided on this sub. I always listen to the pod and you guys always give great advice.

So, its spooky season, but i dont mean it the fun way. I have encountered many weird male ones before, had some issues with people forcing themselves onto me. I might be going crazy, im just so over being scared of someone who is just probably being nice to me.

Im travelling rn, writing this while on the train, its not even 5 in the morning and a random, questionable looking man walks by, when he comes back he has two beers with him (both alcohol free) and puts one on my desk while im talking to my literal boyfriend on ft. I was shocked so coulndt say anything and immediately after another guy came to check my ticket and he was weird af as well. He asked me if he should open it for me, like no thanks? He leaves and comes back from the door to say: ”for that smile i would bring a bottle of whiskey”-and leaves again.

Not even a minute later, guess who is back? this fucking dude is walking up to me notices that im talking on the phone so proceeds to sit down in the seats beside me and streches out like this is the most normal thing ever.

These two have been walking up and down in the aisle next to me, like dont you have work or a seat somewhere else?

I really wanted to get some sleep, bc its a long way there, but now my bf is on call with me and i cant even move from my seat without being anxious that they are “watching me”. My bf said that this is a bit sus and he wont ever let me travel alone. So now im sitting here tired af and wondering:

Am i being an asshole for not trusting in a kind a gesture or are men this creepy?

Advice Needed Was I the toxic friend? I (unintentionally) gave my friend a panic attack

Hi, I've been a listener for a while and want to just have some other opinions on this situation that happened in the past. Now to preface, this happened a couple of years ago and I no longer talk with this person, but the situation always comes to mind whenever I hear anyone talk about how actions can lead to unintentional hurt feelings and toxic apologies.

I had a friend called Alex that I was roommates with in a 4-person house in college. This was a little of a party house since we were all in the same friend group and would host hangouts and parties for everyone during the year we were there. After one said party, I had gotten up early (im the early bird of the house) and started to clean from the night before. We didn’t have any specific cleaning rules for after parties, just that everyone should help with something and we'd never really had an issue with this. After I had done a portion (trashing bottles/cans and putting away folding tables), I left to run some errands.

Now a little about me is that I am usually a laid back person, but can have a little temper when overly frustrated/irritated. Most of the time I can keep this in check since I know it's probably related to my type A/OCD personality and know how to deal with my triggers, but if I feel myself getting too heated, I'll try to just remove myself from the situation to calm down.

In this situation, I had gotten incredibly (and probably irrationally) irritated by drivers while out on my errands, which remained as I came back home. When I got back (around noon), I found that Alex was up and had started cleaning some. She had obviously recognized my bad mood and I had started ranting to her about bad drivers. She then asked if I was really upset with how I had been left to clean on my own this morning, which confused me since I was ranting about drivers on my errands. I denied and said that my mood wasn’t because of the cleaning, but she kept insisting that it was and that the tone of my voice was proof that I was mad at her. This then divulged into an argument(?) where I was saying that I wasn’t mad at her, her insisting that I was, and me slowly getting actually frustrated with her assuming how I felt. Eventually, I saw this going nowhere and decided to just remove myself before her argument became true. So I ended the conversation by saying one final time, "I'm really not mad at you but I gotta go", and left for my room……and we never really talked about it afterwards.

Months later when we were having a different discussion, she brought up this situation and said that I was a terrible friend for not recognizing that she had a panic attack after I had left and not following up afterwards. At this point I was almost exasperated to hear that she had sent herself into a panic attack during the ordeal and just apologized with "I'm sorry you felt that way, but that’s not my fault."

Looking back on this, I know I made a mistake by not following up with her after the argument and that I definitely should have handled the apology better, but to me the entire ordeal was just confusing and frustrating and (imo) ultimately her fault. There were other things that came to light after our friendship had ended that made my opinion of her drop but also want to check myself in-case I was really in the wrong on this one.
