❓ Travel Question when does a hotel spa become an actual wellness retreat and not just an expensive massage?
feel like every expensive hotel now has:
spa
7am yoga
green juice
“sleep menu”
one massage involving a local herb
and suddenly we're calling it a wellness retreat lol
where is the actual line?
The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary is what got me thinking about this because they've gone way beyond a normal treatment room. proper 27,000 sq ft wellness setup, Ayurveda, Turkish hammam, yoga/meditation, forest stuff etc.
that sounds much closer to somewhere you could go _for_ wellness rather than somewhere you happen to get a massage while on holiday.
but then you look at places like Ananda or Six Senses Vana where the entire stay can be structured around consultations, food, treatments and daily programming.
that's obviously another level of commitment.
so what makes something a real wellness destination for you?
is it personalisation?
food being part of the programme?
multiple treatments over several days?
actual doctors/practitioners?
being somewhere in nature?
or honestly just having enough time and space to do absolutely nothing?
because i'm also not sure i want to spend ₹₹₹ on holiday just to receive a timetable telling me where to breathe at 6:30am.
there has to be a middle ground between “nice spa hotel” and “my vacation has become boarding school”.
