I'm posting this on behalf of my parents because we're honestly at a loss for what to do at this point.
Back in April of this year, my parents decided to switch from T-Mobile to AT&T. They went into a T-Mobile store in person and specifically requested to close their account and cancel all associated lines.
Unbeknownst to them, their account had 3 promotional "free" lines that they had never actually used. Apparently, when the employee processed the cancellation, they canceled the lines my parents were actively using but left those 3 promotional lines open.
As a result, those previously free lines became billable, and T-Mobile has continued charging my parents for months despite their explicit request to close the entire account.
To make matters worse, because their primary lines were canceled, they lost access to their online T-Mobile account. So not only were they being charged for services they weren't using, but they couldn't even log in to disable autopay or manage the remaining lines.
Fast forward to last week.
After finally figuring out what was happening, my parents returned to a T-Mobile store to get the situation resolved. They were told they needed to call a customer service number because the store couldn't resolve the issue.
They called, but that didn't resolve anything either.
Yesterday, they tried customer service again. After being transferred between representatives and spending over 2 hours on hold, they were eventually told that the issue needed to be handled by the original store that canceled their account.
Frustrated, my father and sister went back to the store in person, only to be told something along the lines of:
"Sounds like whoever closed the account didn't do it correctly."
And that's essentially where things stand.
I understand mistakes happen, but what's incredibly frustrating is that T-Mobile seems to acknowledge that the cancellation wasn't handled correctly, yet my parents are still the ones having to spend hours trying to fix it.
They went into the store in April, requested that their entire account be closed, and reasonably assumed that was the end of it. Instead, they've been charged for approximately six months, can't access the account to stop autopay, and keep getting bounced between customer service and the store.
At this point, we're not even sure who is actually responsible for resolving the issue.
Has anyone dealt with something similar?
Is there a specific escalation department or corporate contact that can actually get this resolved? Ideally, we'd like to have the remaining lines canceled, the charges refunded dating back to April, and confirmation that no further payments will be taken.
We're also considering filing an FCC complaint if this continues, but wanted to see if anyone here has advice or has successfully resolved a similar situation.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
