I've been comparing camera phones in this price range, and I think the main camera hardware matters a lot more than just the megapixel count. A 50MP sensor with good light gathering and OIS can sometimes produce better night shots than a higher-resolution sensor with weaker processing. These are the brands I'm looking at (yall please suggest more if ive missed anything):
Motorola – The Edge 70 Fusion has a 50MP Sony LYTIA 710 main sensor with OIS and a 13MP ultrawide. I'm curious how its sensor and processing perform in darker scenes, especially with moving subjects and indoor portraits.
OnePlus – Interested in how its main sensor handles exposure, shadow detail and noise reduction. Does Night Mode actually recover detail, or does it end up smoothing textures too much?
Samsung – I'd like to compare its HDR processing and colour consistency in mixed lighting. Some cameras handle bright signs and street lights well but struggle to preserve details in darker areas.
Nothing – Curious about its processing, particularly shutter speed, skin tones and how much detail survives when shooting in low light.
Xiaomi / Redmi – Also worth comparing for sensor size, aperture and OIS. A larger sensor and wider aperture can make a real difference in how much light reaches the sensor, even before Night Mode processing kicks in.
The main things I'd compare are sensor size, aperture, OIS, autofocus performance, shutter speed and multi-frame night processing. OIS helps reduce blur from hand movement, but it can't freeze a moving person. Longer Night Mode exposures can brighten a scene while introducing motion blur, and aggressive noise reduction can make faces look waxy.
I'd also be interested in 4K video in low light. Some phones take decent night photos but struggle with video noise, exposure shifts and stabilisation. If you've used any of these phones, which one performs best in actual low-light conditions? I'm particularly interested in camera samples or comparisons rather than megapixel counts alone.
