What helped me Sprite Zero method

Post image
287 Upvotes

Saw this post on Twitter a while back. For years I’ve regularly gotten up once every night to pee in the middle of the night. It was pretty late and I had a sprite in the fridge so I decided to give this a run, I swear it was the first night in years I didn’t wake up to pee.

My question is (since I don’t want to drink a sprite every night) can I take supplements of the vitamins listed in the post above to recreate the same effect? I don’t think it could’ve been placebo since if I’m asleep how would my brain trick me into not having to use the bathroom as normal.

Discussion Noisy roomate affecting sleep quality pls help

Hi guys, I have a sleep dilemma, and I was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation. I'm a college student, and my roommate wakes up at 5:30am each day, and as hard as he tries to avoid it, he wakes me up every single morning. With that being said, I am on certain medications where it hugely benefits me to get my 8-9 hours of consistent sleep a night, and my alarm is set for around 7:15 each day because I can't get to sleep early enough most nights to wake up WITH my roommate. I was thinking of solutions, and the best I came up with was those vibrating alarm wristbands (taking brand recs if these are a good idea) and earplugs so I am not disturbed during my sleep. I'd love any advice or any ideas from anyone in similar situations! Also, to clarify, I am not switching roommates because it's not my roommate specifically; I am just a light sleeper, and my medications also make it harder for me to fall back asleep if I get woken up at 5:30; it heavily disturbs the quality of my sleep. Thanks!!

Insomnia Alternative to Trazodone for Insomnia?

Trazodone has been working like a charm for me for a year, but it’s making me lose my hair and I just can’t do it anymore.

I started taking hydroxizine instead but it’s not working that well. I’m still awake for hours. The doctor made it sound like those are my 2 options, but surely that’s not it?

I’m not currently open to holistic/non-medicine suggestions. I’ll get there eventually, but my insomnia is caused by severe PTSD and I just need to get through the night right now.

What meds work for you? What are their side effects?

Discussion Rebound effect ?

Hi there !

I had some sleep issue for the lat 10 days, mainly caused by stress and anxiety : wake up at 3:00, unable to fall back asleep.

Last night was better : stress goes down and I took a mix of magnesium and melatonine long effect.

The night was quite better : wake up at 3:00 but fall back asleep quickly. Some wake up / fall back asleep until 6:30 but my best night since 10 days for sure.

But today I am absolutely dead : tired since I get up, no energy at all... I would think that at least a good night would improve my energy, but it is worse.

Is it some kind of rebound effect ?

Thanks for your help !

Advice Need help/Advice, what can it be?

Hello everyone I am a somewhat fit 21M, have slept like shit for the most part of the past 10 years, it has started catching up to me within the past 3-4. I did a sleep study before where I had an ahi/rdi of 19.4. I was told I had sleep apnea and used a cpap, I used it for 4 months and still felt so tired. I then got a turbinate reduction and a tonsillectomy and took another sleep study recently and got the results back which are displayed. I still feel the exact same, not even an improvement even though they told me I don’t have anything. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar chart and ended up finding out it was something else other than obstructive sleep apnea. I’ve been dealing with this for so long it made me lose more hope seeing a negative diagnosis now. I feel like I can never stay asleep, I wake up a lot throughout the night and toss and turn so bad. My Fitbit is always on elevated restlessness.

Small win TIL there’s actually a word called “bedline”

Found “bedline” on Urban Dictionary today. It’s basically a deadline for dropping everything and going to bed.

I’m officially adopting “respect the bedline” as my new life motto.

Because I’m tired of lying in bed at midnight wondering what I forgot to do today instead of actually sleeping.

Anyone else have this problem?

Advice Tricking myself into sleeping

Hi all, not sure if this is the right place to post this, but let's see:

I have found throughout my life that if I wanted to start or stop doing something as a habit that stuck, I either need to scare myself into it or become so interested that I must Respect The Information.

My problem specifically is that I don't sleep as much as I would like. I either get distracted in the process of going to bed, stay up in bed awake, or just don't try to sleep. This does not satisfy me, but I don't know what to do about it. I have to get up at 07:00 for my job, and on 6-7 hours a night, that's simply not working for me.

So, in summary: how do I trick myself into sleeping for a satisfying number of hours each night? Any fun facts that will send me down a rabbithole that prompts me to sleep better?

Thanks!

Advice Waking up 20x a night and constant vivid dreams

I wake up around 20x a night and have constant vivid dreams all throughout the night. What is this? Anyone else with this experience? No idea what to do. I'm EXHAUSTED shortly after waking up. I feel as if I could pass out at any given moment. I don't drink caffeine before bed, no screens, no alcohol, no SSRIs. It feels like I never actually get rest and it's depleting my quality of life. I also don't snore or anything like that. Any advice or tips?

Discussion Sunrise alarm clock: ANTDALIS AK-002 vs AK-005 vs HOUSBAY, or just a smart bulb?

I'm looking to buy a sunrise alarm clock to make waking up easier and I've narrowed it down to three options on Amazon (I'm in Brazil, so they're imported and cost around R$160-250):

- ANTDALIS AK-005 (white, touch control, 20 brightness levels): 4.0 stars, 177 reviews

- ANTDALIS AK-002 (orange, dual alarms, 7 sounds, FM radio): 4.2 stars, 3,000+ reviews

- HOUSBAY dome model (5 alarm sounds + 20 white noise sounds): 3.7 stars, only 8 reviews

I'm also considering a cheaper route: a regular Wi-Fi smart bulb with an automation that gradually increases brightness before my wake-up time.

Questions for anyone with experience:

  1. Has anyone used any of these? Is the light bright enough to actually wake you up?

  2. Is the AK-002 worth the extra money over the AK-005?

  3. If you've tried the smart bulb approach, does it work as well as a dedicated sunrise clock?

Thanks!

Advice Stop peeing every night

For the last 2.5 years (when I stayed into a shared dorm room for a couple of months), I’ve been waking up every single night to pee.
I’ve already been to a urologist and ruled out any medical issues, so it seems to be more of a habit, stress/sleep quality, or lifestyle trigger.
Has anyone dealt with something similar? How did you manage to break the cycle and fix your sleep?

Advice Why do we sometimes sleep much longer than usual and wake up feeling especially refreshed?

Why do we sometimes sleep much longer than usual and wake up feeling especially refreshed?

Hi everyone,

I've noticed something interesting about my sleep.

Today, I slept considerably longer than usual and woke up feeling particularly refreshed.

I normally follow a fairly consistent sleep schedule, and I don't think I've experienced such a long sleep for approximately six months.

I'm curious about the possible scientific explanations.

  1. Could this be my body recovering from accumulated sleep debt?
  2. Is it normal to occasionally need significantly more sleep despite maintaining a regular routine?
  3. Could bedroom temperature, clothing or bedding influence how long we sleep?
  4. Is there any evidence that sleeping without pyjamas improves sleep quality compared with wearing comfortable cotton clothing?

I'd particularly appreciate research-based explanations about sleep duration, temperature regulation and recovery.

Thanks!

Advice "Indoor" sleeping bag?

My wife has a bit of an issue - every morning she wakes up, she's hugging her duvet. It's nice and cozy, but it also ends up leaving her back uncovered, leading to back pain from the cold.

So, does anyone have any tips? Solutions we've been considering is a sleeping bag that's rated for indoor use, a blanket hoodie, or similar.

Discussion How do I become someone who can sleep under every circumstance?

I have extreme difficulty with falling asleep. I wear ear plugs or earphones with noise and a sleeping mask. The ear plugs, of course, cannot block the sound or doors and cabinets being closed, as my roommates wander around in the small room that we have.

The ear plugs also exaggerate the noise of chairs grinding against the floor in the study rooms downstairs.

The thing is, those sudden chair noises have stopped bothering me, when they once did. And when I'm travelling by bus, even with sudden unexpected noises and light, no headphones and sitting quite uncomfortably, I'm able to fall asleep. I've started heavily relying on ear plugs and earphones, and on my mask, and I remember being 11 and unable to fall asleep without a light.

I don't want to spend my whole life being annoying to others when it's time for me to sleep. My roommates can sleep just fine in any environment, that goes for my current roommates and my past roommates. So I understand that I'm the minority.

I also think that I could be a person like that too, and that the thing actually stopping me from sleep is just the thought of my roommates not being motionless and in bed, and the anticipation of sudden noises (I used not to anticipate them and then they show up and jolt me awake from the half sleep, so I learned to anticipate them)

But if I can adapt to the sudden noise of chairs, and if all these things actually won't wake me when I'm already asleep, then for sure I'm not as light of a sleeper as I think myself to be?

I'm AuDHD which doesn't help my case. (Hence trying not to think really won't help me)

But I'm getting progressively more tired. I have a demanding schedule in college and I want to sleep early. It's not okay from me to expect lights off every night by 21:30, it's not okay from me to expect everyone to be ready for bed by that time.

Any unconventional tips for me, since Google isn't helping much?

Advice I slept till 11:30 am today!!!

Post image
4 Upvotes

Guys last night I was watching yt till 4 am and slept watching the dawn break.

I woke up around 11:30 am, and now it feels like 9:30 am because it's been only 3 hrs since I woke up, but it's 4 pm now.

If I sleep at night now, around 10pm, I would be awake for less than 12 hrs. If I won't sleep then I will wake up late again.

What should I do?

Ps:I decided to be so active and productive, but I feel so sleepy now.

What helped me Melatonin .5 mg success

I usually sleep 2-4 hours, then wake for 3-5 hours (or often the rest of the day). I've tried just about everything with no results (except ambien, but it was destroying my brain).

I took .5 mg melatonin about an hour before bed, then slept 5 hours straight. Stayed up for only 2.5 hours, then slept for 2 hours.

This is huge - hopefully it's not a one off. Thanks to this group for the advice! I was assuming a larger dose would be better but it does nothing for me.

Advice Conscious Thinking and Awareness During Sleep

I experience abnormal mental activity during sleep. I can be aware that I’m asleep and aware of my own thinking.

Sometimes I hear sounds while asleep and logically think, “This doesn’t make sense because I’m asleep,” and that wakes me. My thinking during sleep can be coherent and logical, not just random dream scenes.

I continue thinking about real-life obligations or things I was thinking about before sleep. I’ve even had connected chains of thought about my sleep problem itself with a sense of conscious awareness during sleep.

My sleep is very fragmented: I wake up thinking, then go back to sleep. I sleep 10+ hours but wake up unrefreshed and still want more sleep and during the day I feel sleepy. It’s exhausting and frustrating because sleep is supposed to be my rest. And I can get things done throughout the day because of this exhaustion.

I don't drink and I don't have caffeine at night. This is happening for 3-4 weeks.

Shift work & schedules Oversleeping is ruining my life

I (22M) have always had issues with sleep. I have trouble sleeping. I have trouble waking up. I have trouble keeping a consistent sleep schedule.

I work in an industry where if you oversleep or are late to work more than once, you are fired, and never to be hired again. This is the work culture. I often get home past 10PM and have to be at work the next day by anywhere between 4PM and 6AM.

Today I hit my first & only strike. I overslept by 2 hours. I set multiple alarms last night and I cannot even recall waking up to turn them off.

I work long hours, like 12-16 a day. Physical labour. I’m exhausted. But oversleeping has always been an issue. I always turn off my alarms without any recollection of waking up to do so. I feel perpetually tired.

I take 30mg of Vyvanse daily, for my ADHD. I suspect it might have something to do with it, although I am not a doctor. I also cannot function like a normal human without it.

Other symptoms include occasional headaches, waking up with stuffed sinuses, anxiety, depression, and never-ending exhaustion.

Do you guys think that there is an underlying health issue at play? Am I mentally blocking out responsibility? Please help me. This could genuinely ruin my career

Discussion Just been told this is not a universal experience?

I have always thought this was a completely universal thing and still suspect it might be just that I have noticed articulated myself well enough when I discussed this.

So when I wake up for a period of time maybe 15 minutes to half an hour my co-ordination is really impaired. I bump into things a lot, struggle to type or put my passcode into my phone and fine gross and fine motor control difficult. It’s worth saying I am dyspraxic but this is way beyond my baseline.

Is this something everyone has? I also sleep hallucinate a lot which I know isn’t the norm. I talked about my co-ordination issues in jest with my colleagues and they all seemed shocked and said this did not affect them

Discussion Anyone else sleep worse on rest days than workout days?

Been tracking my sleep for a while and noticed something weird. On days I run, my deep sleep is solid. Rest days, it tanks. Like last Tuesday I took it easy, no workout, and my Oura showed almost no deep sleep and I woke up more than usual. Same thing happened the week before. I eat the same, same bedtime, no caffeine difference. My guess is the lack of physical fatigue keeps me from sinking as deep. Tried adding some bodyweight stuff on rest days just to tire myself out, but it didn't move the numbers much. Curious if anyone else sees this pattern where rest days actually hurt sleep quality.

Discussion My journey with nasal breathing

Post image
745 Upvotes

22F I’ve been a mouth breather since I was at 8, probably even younger than that.
Everytime I would sleep my jaw is practically on the floor.

About 6 months ago I got a job working as a CPAP DME supplier, and throughout this time I realized that maybe I should invest in the quality of my sleep.

I would always wakeup with severe exhaustion, missing alarms, headaches, I could barely even get myself to move my body. My husband was also telling me I’m grinding my teeth, chomping, chewing, snoring, everyday he would tell me “new sound unlocked”😂

Anyways I do have a at home sleep study scheduled soon, but I decided to take matters into my own hands for now

I started using a chinstrap from Amazon, and used that for about a week until I realized the chinstrap just wasn’t the best fit for me because I move so much it would sometimes stay all night, sometimes I’d wakeup and it would be off my head.
I invested in mouth tape to wear with my chinstrap to help make sure I’m fully nasal breathing.

I recieved my chinstrap around September 30th? I’ve definitely missed some days here and there, but the difference to my face is absolutely blowing my mind. Not even an entire month of nasal breathing and my face structure has already improved significantly!

Anyways I still have a lot to go, and like I said I’m awaiting my sleep study, but I just wanted to show these results because now my jaw is on the floor (again😂😂).
I only wish I would have taken better photos before I started using it to really capture how disgusting my face was, I wasn’t aware until after I had started using it that mouth breathing changes your face shape, I thought it was just making my sleep poor.
