MOD ANNOUNCEMENT It's happening! (Big) changes to RandomThoughts.
Alright, it’s time.
Starting July 32nd*, we’re making a big change:
- Questions go to r/RandomQuestions
- NSFW content goes to r/NSFWThoughts
They’ll no longer be allowed here in r/RandomThoughts.
This isn’t us trying to be overly strict or nitpicky. The reality is that questions and NSFW posts just don’t really fit the point of this subreddit. The whole idea of RandomThoughts is to capture those weird, passing, often pointless moments of brain activity. The stuff you think and immediately wonder why. A sentence without context. A vibe. An unexplainable truth about frogs.
When a bunch of posts start shifting into “hey what do you guys think about X?” or “here’s something NSFW I’ve been thinking about,” it pulls away from that vibe. It turns into a catch-all subreddit, and that’s not what this place is supposed to be.
We created r/RandomQuestions and r/NSFWThoughts specifically so that stuff has a better home. It’s not just about moving things away from here -- it’s about giving that kind of content a space where it actually works.
So yeah. Big change. Not a test run. Posts that are questions or NSFW will be removed after the launch date. We’ll try to be nice about it, but we’re going to be consistent.
As always, let us know what you think. Comments are open, we’re listening, and we appreciate everyone who helps keep this place just the right amount of chaotic.
\ Or August 1st, whichever happens first.)

America peaked in high school and still wears its letterman jacket around town even though it's middle aged

I don't like mornings. It's the end of me-time.
Mornings aren't relaxing. Even on the weekends, you have to prepare to show yourself to everyone around you when you go grocery shopping and whatnot.

I've stopped trying to understand American football.
I'm an immigrant who has lived in the US for 8 years. I'm now a naturalized citizen. I follow many sports and have wanted to understand American football for some time. But I find it confusing because I didn't grow up with it. I've been keen to learn it so I don't look clueless during the Super Bowl and so I can feel like a "true" American. I've read up on it lately and understand the basics better than I used to. But I still find the deeper nuances of the plays hard to learn in adulthood. I recently bought the game "Madden" so I could improve my literacy. But I still can't understand anything in the video game despite thinking I understood the basic rules of the game. I think it's very difficult to really "get" this sport without actively following it from childhood or otherwise being involved with a team very closely. Unfortunately I don't have 3 hours to watch games often either, because that's just too much time.
I'll just stick to the NBA which is easier to understand and has shorter games. I think football is interesting but I've accepted that I don't need to fully understand it to feel like a "true" American.

It will be interesting to see to what extent AI reverts us back into a two class system.
Let’s say we go to the extremes and say we are now at the stage where AI can replace most jobs, all these middle class jobs such as working in finance, office work and banking etc could be replaced.
So in theory all that could be left is manual work such as working class tradesmen, and the top end company owners.
So I wonder if AI will shrink the middle class and create that 2 class system in the olden days with only being filthy rich or dirt poor

It's hard to believe that egg nog's sales don't justify being sold year round in most places
Obviously it would sell way more in holidays, but there is obviously some egg nog fans (I'm not one of them) who are already asking in October if it's out yet. There's got to be at least a few people who would buy it at any time of year, especially with the alcohol factor. Or at least have shelf stable tetra pak kind where the expiry date is not that scary even if the sales are mid.

The Covid era was so weird
It almost feels surreal to me that 6 years ago the world was in panic and businesses were shutting down and everyone had to wear a face mask and social distance. Then a few years later life just picked up normally again like none of that ever happened.

The wealthy are the most boring people.
Imagine having enough money to literally never have to do any work again and being able to create, explore, invent and live out your wildest dreams. Instead they not only don't do that they actively styphen actual inventors abuse copyright and trademark and suppress wages while price gouging and making everything colorless.
Give me just a single million even 250K I'll be living my freaking dream and trying to create not just sitting there.

It’s sad the world thrives on ignorance
The world functions on convenience, customs rather than knowledge.
You can have a lot of knowledge but without societal support it’s nothing on an external level

It’s funny how ancient scientific books are named
Instead of having some deep topic-specific title or something, they’re always just “History” “Math” “Geography” because they were just built different

I wonder how advanced we’d be in 1000 years
I wonder where we’d be in a thousand years. Would we be a spacefaring civilization that harvests energy from the sun, or would we be back to sticks and stones.

Magic Bullet blender is the best culinary purchase I've ever made in my life.
I bought one as an incentive to eat better (275/125 is not healthy). I said, let's try this, if it works, we'll use it for preparing breakfast smoothies. + 2 boiled eggs. And I asked customer service, they said they'll take returns if it doesn't work out.
it was I think like $50, not absolutely sure, so I was iffy, but it's really nice. I can make me some Dirty Palmer or peaches and rum smoothies with it too :)
I hate giant blenders, too heavy and too annoying to clean.
Only thing is Magic Bullet or whatever doesn't have extra of the right cups on their website so you have to buy them on Amazon -_-
But it was definitely *not* a waste of money

Music for whatever reason is the best way for me to store my memories
I have soo many life memories I completely forget and suddenly a song starts playing and so do my memories. It's the same with shows/movies, if I ever need to remind myself why I love something I put on a song or a soundtrack and I just know. But also whenever I think of certain things I also start to hear the music that I would use to remember that thing.
Just now I was thinking of BoJack Horseman and Mr. Blue by Catherine Feeny started playing in my mind. I remembered the show, how I felt about the show, and how life felt at that time. It's such a cool medium for memories.
One of my favorite songs of all time is only my favorite because it was playing when I stood up for myself as a kid to my bully. Which was I'm Yours by Jason Mraz. I stood up to that annoying kid and he left me alone for the rest of my time in that school.
