This flyer is from Coos Bay. Coos Bay is on the Oregon Coast. Enjoy!

Mods might take this down because the city isn't on the local flyer (which is always the case when flyering within the host city itself) but enjoy while it's up!

This is going to be an incredible show! All necessary info on flyer. Feel free to message me or comment with questions.

Agate Beach Near Port Orford

Is agate beach, the one in the Port Orford area, covered in sand now or is it rocky enough to find agates? I never knew there was a “sand season” on the coast. I was surprised to find sandy beaches where there were once rocks.

Bring you ballots to drop boxes

As we all start getting ready to make decisions on how we hope to be governed, I would strongly urge everyone to bring their ballots to the drop boxes and not mail them

  1. The current administration has shown a penchant for ignoring laws and court orders. Do not assume the post office will carry mailed ballots as expected. There could be anything from slowdowns to confiscations.

  2. They have already made new rules that will increase the chances of your ballot being post marked later than you expect it. The only way to avoid this problem is to bring your ballot into the post office, stand in line and ask the clerk to post mark it in front of you when they take it.

The easy way to avoid all concern then is to bring it by a drop box. They are easy to find at your county clerks website or here: https://sos.oregon.gov/elections/pages/drop-box-locator.aspx

Also, the state has a great tracker you can sign up for: https://sos.oregon.gov/elections/Pages/track-your-ballot.aspx

And this isn't a dig at our local post office people. I regularly work with Waldport, Newport and Pacific City and they are all quite wonderful. This is a central processing issue and it is something everyone should be aware.

So, mark up your ballot and drop it at a box!

Tide pooling through 10/20?

I see the lowest daytime tide on the North coast is 3.7 on 10/20/26. Is there a recommended tide pooling area when the lowest tide is still kind of high? Thank you!

Apparently Hebo content is what the internet wanted

This is a video I made about Hebo, which last Sunday, in 24 hours, became my most popular YouTube video ever.

So backstory: six years ago, when I was living in Corvallis, I started making YouTube videos just showing bike rides and walks around the neighborhood. And because I move around a lot, and have family in different states, over the past six years, I've made videos of different towns and parks in Oregon, Washington, California and Montana. These are just slow, minimally edited video of me showing different places. Most of these videos would get a 100 or so views in the first two days, and then slowly get more views, so if a video reached a 1000 views, I would be happy.
Last December I moved to the Oregon Coast, and I've made dozen videos of different places. Most of those did about as well. I thought the Oregon Coast would get a lot of attention, since it is a popular tourist destination, but it was about the same.
I also don't drive, so I get to places on public transit. Last Friday, not knowing where else to go, I took the bus to Hebo, because it was easy to reach. I spent two hours just walking around, made a few comments, then went home, edited and rendered the video, and in the first 24 hours, it got the usual 100 views. But the next morning, when I woke up, it had 2,000. And it just kept on going up. Over the course of the day, it had over 20,000 views. That beat the record of my previous most popular video easily, and that took over 3 years.
The video got so many hours of watch time that I qualified for the YouTube Partner program. Now I get to make money from all those ads!

Okay, but here is the thing: why Hebo? After years, I made videos about dozens of locations on the coast, about Yachats, Waldport, Seal Rock, Newport (many times), Toledo, Otter Rock, Depoe Bay, Lincoln Beach, Gleneden, Lincoln City (many times), Neskowin, Pacific City, Cloverdale, Tillamook, Garibaldi... and they were moderately successful. But Hebo, which, no offense, doesn't have anything particularly interesting, went into overdrive. More than 45,000 people on the internet wanted to watch at least part of a 15 minute video where I walk around and show the town center of Hebo, some creeks, and a dairy farm.
This totally mystifies me, not that I am complaining.

Curious if anyone has info about what to expect from crab season this year

not sure when we start getting info about whether they’re big enough for the season to begin. I think that’s the metric the folks at the fish counter use when they’re telling us when fresh crab might arrive in the valley anyway.

Looking for Halloween Goth Beach Photographer

I have perused lots of photographer websites and portfolios based on the regular family/wedding shoot recommendations. I have looked at find a photographer websites and not really had any luck with finding what I am looking for.

3 50 year old women want to do a sea witch/goth themed photo shoot on Halloween on the coast near Cape Meares. We have our own wardrobe and will do our own hair and makeup. We are 3 cousins who visit the coast annually for Cousin Camp and this year our trip falls on Halloween. We thought we'd commemorate with a fun photo shoot in witch costumes.

Who would you recommend??

Inlander Question: What are those?!

Coming to Depoe Bay soon from central oregon for a little getaway. Was looking on Apple Maps and saw what looks like large schools of fish off the coast... but they're car-sized. Are these whales? Dolphins? Forgive my inlander ignorance... I'm curious and want to learn more about what these could be! They're all up and down the coast in large and small groups.

Portable wood burning hot tub on the beach?

I’ve seen ads for portable 2-4 person hot tubs that are heated by wood (in a coil). Some of the photos look like the Oregon coast. Is this type of fire + temporary hot tub allow on Oregon beaches?
