Produce Plus: Free Produce

Hello,

I've been attending the Produce Plus events for a couple months now. Was unemployed up until about a month ago. I've found that friends of mine that have been receiving SNAP benefits for years did not know about Produce Plus. As someone who has medically necessary dietary restrictions, I'm forever grateful to the DHS worker who did my SNAP application and told me about this.

This is a free program put on by Food For Lane County that anyone can participate in. You do not need to be receiving or qualify for SNAP benefits to attend and take what you need. Anyone can show up. The only information they ask for is for you to scribble a 'signature' on a sign in sheet and to know how many people you're feeding with the food.

You can check the FFLC website, at the bottom of the list of food pantries, and it will show you all of the Produce Plus dates/times/locations. You basically just walk thru and take the produce that you want. Sometimes they will limit quantity on high demand items like watermelons or avocados depending on how many they have. Most of the produce is organic if that's your thing too.

There are 3 every week in my calendar:

Tuesday's at 3pm

At Kokwel Wellness Center (in the parking lot near Burger King and in front of Albertsons on River road).

Wednesday's at 10am

At the red barn behind Kalapuya and Prairie Mountain, on Patriot Way.

Thursday's at 1pm

At the ODHS Family Wellness Center on W11th.

I recommend arriving early to wait in line if you're able to, or at the very least no later than 15-30 minutes after the start time, as things can go quickly.

The one on Tuesdays is my favorite. Huge variety of produce. I cannot have gluten but they always have infinite loaves of bread and sometimes baked goods (an occasional loaf of gluten free bread for me).

The one on Wednesdays typically will have 1-2 dairy products. Smaller variety of produce but different stuff than what's typically at the one on Tue. Have not been able to make it to the one on Thur. at a reasonable time.

Things are tough for a lot of people right now and there are so many people unemployed and struggling. Produce Plus is the only reason I've eaten some weeks/months.

Stay safe and please share this info with those in your life that could use it!

Attempted abduction near Roosevelt

Hey y’all. I don’t post much, but felt this is worth sharing.
Around 2pm today, my mom was walking down Roosevelt when a black 4-door BMW sped in front of her and drove up on the sidewalk to cut her off. The driver rolled down his window and demanded she get in the car. When she refused and walked away, he turned around and followed her in the car all the way to Fairfield. He eventually got out the car, pulled a large knife and began following her on foot while yelling obscenities at her and telling her to come to him. She says he started talking to somebody on his phone, and heard him giving her description to whoever he was talking to.
A man working on his car nearby luckily saw what was happening and chased him off and made sure she got home safely. Seriously thank you to him, whoever you are. It’s making me nauseous thinking about what could’ve happened to my mom if not for him. She said it was a black 4-door BMW, heavy tint on all windows including the windshield. He was a younger guy, around 5'7 ish, skinny, and had dark shaggy hair. She's filing a police report now, but I just wanted to share this so yall can be on the lookout and hopefully stay safe.

Watch Wildwood in Theatres, a film handmade in Oregon

saw it tonight at the Springfield Cinemark. besides the guy next to me that checked his phone literally every 5 minutes, it was a great experience. bought my ticket at the door and there were single seats left at showing

LOTS of Oregon landmarks and Portland businesses featured. some throwaway jokes that we are definitely the target demographic for. pretty scary for kids ngl. the parents in the movie are quintessential Portland millennials, it’s a blast. Laughed at the character design for them because they’re basically every single WMAF crunchy couple you’ve ever seen (in a good way)

basically a love letter to portland and Oregon. saw all the hiking spots that I know and love. a great watch for $10 even if you don’t care about the background of the movie. There’s a ducks football joke in there too somewhere

Taco Bell Employee?

Looking to hire a current or former Taco Bell employee to make quesaritos for an evening party in early November. $25/hr, 4 hour minimum which will include a pre-party consult to prepare a food list, one hour of prep, and 2 hours taking & cooking custom orders.
I will provide flat top grill, cooking supplies, food (all pre-prepped as you advise during consult), food wrappers, gloves, etc.. Pretty much you tell me what to buy/prep, and you show up to make it as authentic as possible. Bonus if you have access to any actual Taco Bell supplies!

CAUTION female cyclists - was just followed up & down Fox Hollow in the dark

Green hatchback was acting super sketch while I was going up Fox Hollow just now. Followed me for far too long, then passed and turned into a pull-out on the super dark uphill stretch before the raptor center. I felt weirded out so I turned around and then it also turned around and followed me for a couple minutes. I finally was able to wave it by.

I saw the car turn onto Amazon at the bottom so the driver obviously had no business being up Fox Hollow in the first place. BE AWARE

Edit: the car was maybe a Honda Fit or similar, a few years old. No bumper stickers. Light green color.

2nd edit: messages from people who think they’re being creepy, sorry but you’re just sad. Go hug your mom.

Cuadros and Loveall displaying despicable behavior in City Council Race

Y’all, we need to talk about some despicable behavior from Jill Cuadros and David Loveall.

tl;dr Vote Callee Ackland. Cuadros has held a press conference to accuse a local community leader, Johanis Tadeo, of trespassing on her property and stealing campaign signs. Tadeo has claimed that he was actually returning signs (as requested by Jill’s campaign) that local business owners no longer wanted after learning of Jill’s political positions. On top of that, David Loveall has been accusing Ackland of “stolen valor” and lying about her time in the Navy and Cuadros even appeared on Rick Dancer’s podcast. Cuadros is also supported by private interest fighting the Peacehealth Annexation.

Jill hosted a conference the other day where she brought in a range of public officials including John Lively, Lee Beyer, David Loveall, and members of the Springfield City Council to claim that she’s been a victim of unfair attacks on her positions and personal property. Recently Cuadros claimed on Facebook that someone “came on to my property without my permission” with a screenshot of a person holding her campaign signs.

In The Register Guard article and the lookout article about the situation, the person in Cuadros’ screenshot identified themself as Johanis Tadeo who stated, three Latino business owners in Springfield changed their mind about Cuadros' campaign after learning she was a Republican. Tadeo said he helped the business owners collect their Cuadros signs and returned them to Cuadros' home at her campaign's request, and he had permission from Cuadros' adult daughter to be there. He said the photographed incident shows people returning, not stealing, the signs.

Here’s something I want to point out to you. Cuadros’ statement was

“someone came onto my property without my permission.”

"My” is clearly the operative word here. Cuadro’s adult daughter was the one to request to get the signs back. It’s a clever trick so that Cuadros wasn’t outright lying in statements, but I’m not falling for it, and neither should you. Signs are generally the property of the people and businesses they are given to. No one stole your signs. They were given away by people who no longer wanted them and returned to Cuadros at the request of her family. Does that sound like "Theft" to you?

Cuadros went on to say

“I expect questions, disagreement, and scrutiny. I am accountable for my decisions, and I am willing to explain them. But entering my property, taking my signs, and misrepresenting my views do nothing to help Springfield choose its next councilor.”

No one is misrepresenting your views, Cuadros. In the City Club candidate forum, you openly and proudly claimed your support for ALPR cameras and surveillance. You clearly articulated that you aim to get to a path to YES on data centers. Each of Cuadros’ statements about Ackland’s campaign misrepresenting facts are easily disprovable. Cuadros is literally asking us to “reject the evidence of our eyes and ears.” You don't get to hide your views because you found out they were unlikable.

Cuadros also stated

“Voters should question my decisions, examining my record, and challenge my positions and I have a responsibility to answer to them”

We are questioning your decisions. The biggest one is your decision to accept $2,000 in campaign funds from a business that had ACTIVE business dealings in your job at a public school district. If this is how Cuadros acts in a public job, why shouldn’t Springfielders question her ability to ethically perform the duties of a public official? Cuadros complains that she’s had complaints to her employer… there should absolutely be a thorough and fair investigation into accepting gifts during an open bid process! That is not a personal attack against a person, Cuadros.

We are examining your record as a lifelong republican who has entrenched herself in the republican political machine. Cuadros attended a candidate forum called “Straight from the Horse’s mouth” at Crossfire Church sharing the stage with Jake Pelroy and Monique Despain. This event was literally advertised on the Oregon Republican Party’s event calendar for crying out loud! She’s even been on Rick Dancer’s podcast, where she smiled and nodded along with bigoted remarks.
Cuadros is quoted in the register guard to say “And how does a choice I made 38 years ago [to register as a republican] become the measure of who I am today? What about the decades since—the family I raised, the work I have done, the people I have helped, and the community I have served?

Cuadros is trying to make it seem like 4 decades has distanced herself from the party she’s an active member of? If Cuadros is not a republican, why hasn’t she changed her affiliation in all this time? My last post about her clearly outlined how deeply connected she is CURRENTLY in statewide republican infrastructure. Frankly, I feel that city councilors claiming non-partisanship in this day and age is just a thin veil so they don’t need to be held to account for their beliefs.

We are challenging your positions on mass surveillance and data centers.

Cuadros has also stated “I want to earn Springfield's vote because Springfield believes in me and believes that I am the best person for the job. I don’t want either candidate to win because the other person has been subjected to personal damage” Well here it is Cuadros. I don’t believe in you, and sure, let’s talk about personal damage.

David Lovealls attacks:

David Loveall has been at Cuadros' side throughout her campaign. Loveall is in her photos on her facebook page. Her sign is in David Lovealls empty building downtown. David Loveall has publicly claimed in facebook posts that Callee Ackland is “stealing valor” with her running openly as a Navy Veteran.

Ackland has been endorsed by Vote Vets, a group that endorses veterans running for city council. Ackland has pictures of herself winning accolades in the Navy. Cuadros, if you wanna talk about personal damage in this campaign, look within at the people you’re surrounding yourself with.

To Cuadros: You released a screenshot of someone allegedly trespassing on your property and claimed they were a thief. If Ackland’s campaign is lying, show us the whole video, not just a screenshot. Show us that the signs were NOT being dropped off and were instead being taken. Prove your claim. Also, disavow Loveall’s accusations of stolen valor.

To Springfield City Council, Lively, and Beyer: Come forward and publicly apologize for your part in this misrepresentation of facts Cuadros has been spreading and let us know,  were you misled into joining the sham of the press conference, or are you fully bought in to public officials openly deceiving the public?

To Springfielders: If you haven’t voted already, vote for Callee Ackland. We need someone who isn’t going to misrepresent the truth to everyone around her.

EDIT: I just saw some more information people need to know. Eugene Weekly just published This Article about the Peacehealth annexation

It shares that one of the groups fighting the annexation is "Common Sense for Springfield." One of Common Sense for Springfield's leadership is Brian Wells, WHO GAVE JILL $2,000! Brian Wells is also an executive for Rosboro, a "local" company that is actually owned by an out-of-state private equity firm. Rosboro also has a massive Cuadros sign in front of their business.

It's clear who is supporting Jill Cuadros. Private interest, and they are people who are NOT fighting for Springfield.

Have a good day, love you all!

Been trying to get a new job and I finally got my first interview offer at peace health in environmental services. What should I expect? Any tips or warnings? Do they care about face piercings?
