Announcements Why r/Lubbock Requires Moderator Approval for All Posts

Hello, r/Lubbock!

We wanted to take a moment to address some questions and concerns regarding how posts are reviewed and approved in our community.

First and foremost, requiring moderator approval for posts is NOT a new policy. This process has been in place for over five years.

Several years ago, r/Lubbock experienced a significant surge in spam, including fraudulent T-shirt advertisements, scam links, unsolicited sexually explicit images, suspicious promotional content, and posts containing misleading or potentially harmful links.

To combat these issues and protect our community, we implemented a system requiring every submission to be reviewed and approved by an active moderator before becoming publicly visible.

This policy applies to EVERYONE, regardless of the subject matter or the individual submitting the post.

Why hasn't my post appeared yet?

Our moderators are volunteers. We have jobs, families, responsibilities, and lives outside of Reddit. While we make every effort to review submissions in a timely manner, we cannot guarantee immediate approval.

A post awaiting approval does not necessarily mean it has been rejected, censored, or singled out. It simply means a moderator has not yet reviewed and approved it.

Repeatedly submitting the same post will not speed up the approval process. We ask that you please be patient and allow our moderators time to review submissions.

Is the moderation team biased?

We want to make something absolutely clear:

The r/Lubbock moderation team does not make moderation decisions based on a user's:

  • Religious beliefs or lack thereof
  • Political affiliation or personal political views
  • Sexual orientation or gender identity
  • Race, ethnicity, or personal background

Our responsibility is to enforce the community rules fairly and consistently, regardless of whether we personally agree or disagree with someone's beliefs or opinions.

Please also understand that moderating political discussions under our No State or National Politics rule is not the same as discriminating against someone's political affiliation. The rule applies equally to everyone.

Have a concern or a better suggestion?

We recognize that no moderation system is perfect, and we're always open to constructive feedback.

If you believe your post was removed incorrectly, have concerns about a moderation decision, or have an idea for a better way to manage submissions while keeping spam and scams out of our community, our Modmail inbox is always open.

We welcome respectful discussions and suggestions that could help improve the community.

Thank you!

Our goal has always been to maintain a welcoming, informative, and safe community focused on Lubbock and the surrounding areas.

We appreciate your patience, cooperation, and understanding as our volunteer moderators work to keep r/Lubbock running smoothly.

Thank you for being part of the r/Lubbock community!

The r/Lubbock Moderation Team

Rants & Rambles What has this world come to

Walmart on 4th. Lunatic dragging a 90 lb Rottweiler around while shopping and no one cares. Lots of people openly vaping blowing smoke everywhere and no one cares. Everyone acts like they're the only one shopping and everyone else is a piece of shit trying to get in their way. Just a Lubbock thing or a sign of a failed society?

Recommendations ADHD evaluation

I’m looking (rather desperately) for a clinic/doc in Lubbock that will evaluate me for ADHD. I’m 30, and I have all the signs. I’ve been undiagnosed my entire life. I’m tired of feeling this way and I want to confirm my suspicions and get some help.

Politics Prop A Vote - it wasnt on my ballot (why??)

Hello!

I voted today and noticed I didn't have the Prop A option on my ballot. I was at the United off Frankford. Does the location matter? I was super confused and really bummed that I didn't get to cast a vote for Prop A.

Is that normal? Is Prop A by....zip code or something?

Recommendations Where to stay in LBB over a weekend?

My family moved away from Lubbock last year. Now that I don't have a house to go to there, I need to find a place to stay!

Any suggestions for cool/funky/interesting, or at least not crappy, inexpensive places to stay over in the Northwest part of town?

Ask Lubbock Business ideas!!

**edited, I know I listed ideas, Im trying to find more that people don’t know about or something that someone could bring to Lubbock, like something for teens or kids!

I love Lubbock and hate that it receives sooo much hate but I get it, there really isn’t anything here, like yes we have Dave and busters now and rage rooms and stuff, but I want something more, I would love to open an indoor water park but you have to have a lot of funding, it feels like there are so many good ideas that could come here but cost way to much without a lot of donors.

what would your honest take or maybe list the businesses already doing this so we can get them known!

  • Date night- each weekend couples or friends could spend the night painting, or cooking, or pottery together just to get out and about
  • a mobile entertainment- a trailer where kids could play or do like video games
  • a place with Rock wall or rock climbing if funding permitted

or any ideas we could formulate to bring to Lubbock and bring in more revenue and just make it feel like home honestly!!

Can someone please help me locate a specific wall mural that says Lubbock😭 I drove by one a couple weeks ago and I can't for the life of me remember where it was (I've already tried retracing my steps). All the ones that come up on google aren't it, I can't even remember what it looks like but it was so pretty and it says Lubbock written out. I wanna say it's somewhere between Milwaukee and Slide

Ask Lubbock Anyone familiar with weddings at Mack Dick Pavilion in Palo Duro Canyon?

Has anyone here had a wedding or attended one at Mack Dick Pavilion in Palo Duro Canyon? My daughter is getting married there in Dec this year (and we live 8 hours away and haven't toured venu), and I’d love to see real wedding photos of the inside, kitchen/corridor area, porch at night, and different table/beverage setups. We already have the official floor plan and venue photos, so I’m mainly looking for firsthand experience with how people actually used the space. Thank you!

Soapbox A simple way to easily pick cheap Texas electricity plans

Post image
24 Upvotes

I found that shopping for the “best” electricity plan seems very tricky since Lubbock joined the deregulated energy market. I end up scrolling through lots of plans on Power To Choose, and half of them look cheap, however, some only hit the low rate if using a very specific amount of power.

So I built this: Texas Smart Power as a fun mini project so I can easily pick the right plan for myself. Gimmick plans like time of usage or bill credit have been filtered out for the peace of mind.

Site: https://texas-smart-power-app.vercel.app/

The plans are ranked based on the combination of
- Cheap price
- Stable rate across 500 1000 2000 kwh
- Flexibility (12 month term, low cancellation fee)
- % of renewable energy.
It pulls the data from Power To Choose daily.

Give it a try and hope it’s helpful!

Ask Lubbock Wrongly accused of hitting someone’s car in HEB parking lot

I was accused of hitting someone’s car in the Lubbock HEB parking lot on Oct 15. The person came into the store and took my picture and told she would call the cops. There was a car that suddenly backed up when I was going behind them with my son in the cart. Luckily we did not make contact but the lady accused me of hitting her car. Is there somehow I can file a report and try to get a video recording from the parking lot to protect myself? I am also worried that she may claim a false insurance.

Recommendations Anniversary ponderings

My wife and I will be married 39 years this month. We moved to Midland in 2024 for grandkids. We are looking for a one night trip to celebrate our anniversary. Neither of us are into drinking, don’t eat late (iykyk), and would like something to do within about a 2 hour radius of Midland for one night. Place to stay, place to get snacks/light meal, something fun…

We both enjoy the outdoors, but are not the most athletic. Any nice water areas? Ya, I know, West Texas and water don’t go together much, but thought I’d ask.

We were thinking of a one night stay in Big Spring at the historic Settles hotel, anything similar in Lubbock that might have history, some charm, and lend to an anniversary celebration?

Thanks for any tips on helping us to celebrate our 39th anniversary!
