Overly Ultra Conservative?

Why is everyone in this city so conservative and pro maga? Like the evidence is right in front of them that it’s a party of child raping fascists and pedophile protectors and idiots still openly vote Paxton? Like, these people actively vote to make life worse for everyone. Why are they like this? It’s baffling, truly. Like these people at this point should be investigated for how willingly they vote for people like Paxton and still think abbot is gonna fix things in this shit hole?

Not sure who needs to here this...

(Hear not here*)

If you find yourself in bumper to bumper traffic and are blocking the entrance to an urgent care or hospital with cars trying to turn into said establishment, I sincerely hope;

you stub your toe every night,

you find a band aid in your food everytime you go to a restaurant,

your check engine light comes on weekly,

you become allergic to your favorite foods,

your dog/cat suddenly hates you,

your parents/spouse reminds you what a colossal disappointment you are to us all.

Thank you for your time.

Bomb City Gaming Club Fall Games Day

Post image
11 Upvotes

Bomb City Gaming Club Fall Games Day is coming on November 7th at the Southwest Public Library in Amarillo, Texas!

This will be set up much like our previous Games Days, with plenty of tabletop gaming, our retro game arcade, snacks, community tables, raffle prizes, and plenty of loot throughout the event.

We already have some awesome prizes lined up, including Warhammer-themed loot, Dungeon Crawler Carl items, posters, card game playmats, board games, gaming accessories, and more. We are still adding to the prize pool, so if you have something gaming or hobby-related that you would like to donate, please reach out.

We are also looking for game runners and volunteers. If you have a board game, tabletop RPG, miniature game, card game, wargame, or another tabletop game that you would like to teach or demo, please contact me. Every game host will receive 5 extra raffle tickets as a thank-you for helping run games and introduce people to something new.

Everyone who attends Fall Games Day will receive one free raffle ticket and will also get to choose something from the Bomb City Gaming Club Loot Box. Our Loot Box is packed with miniatures, dice, gaming trinkets, and other fun little hobby items, so everyone who comes out will leave with something.

We are always looking for small donations to help keep the Loot Box stocked as well. Things like dice, stickers, miniatures, tokens, pins, small gaming accessories, little 3D-printed items, and other inexpensive gaming or hobby trinkets are perfect for it. Not every donation has to be a large raffle prize. Even a handful of small items helps us keep the Loot Box full for future events and gives new players something fun to take home.

You do not need to be an expert to host a game. If you know the game, enjoy teaching it, and want to help more people discover it, we would love to have you. These events are one of the best ways to grow different games and hobbies inside the club by giving people a chance to sit down, learn, and meet others who already enjoy them.

We are also looking for volunteers who can help with setup, keeping things organized, answering questions, and helping throughout the day. If you want to see Bomb City Gaming Club continue to grow, this is a great chance to get involved and help make the event even better.

Fall Games Day — November 7th
Southwest Public Library — Amarillo, Texas

If you would like to host a game, volunteer, donate a raffle prize, or contribute some smaller items to the Loot Box, please contact me. The more people we have helping, the more games, prizes, and activities we can offer to everyone who comes out.

City council is considering making microchips mandatory for all dogs and cats in Amarillo.

This came up at the Oct 13 council meeting and I haven't seen much about it, so here's the rundown.

Nothing has been voted on yet. It was discussion only, and the mayor asked staff to bring back an actual draft ordinance, maybe in November.

As presented, every dog and cat over 3 months old in city limits would need a microchip that's registered with the chip company, with your contact info kept current. If a pet changes hands, both the old and new owner would have 30 days to update it. There'd be a six-month grace period at first, and after that it would mostly come up when an animal control officer is already dealing with your animal. They didn't set a penalty or fine amount yet, and the only exemption they talked about was medical, with a note from your vet.

The council looks split. Mayor Stanley said a mandate would "criminalize a good part of our community" and he'd rather do voluntary chipping with incentives. Councilmember Simpson said he's looking forward to "voting and supporting" it.

The numbers staff gave were interesting. The shelter takes in 8,000 to 10,000 animals a year, and only about 1 in 5 gets back to its owner (21.3% so far this year). Animals that came in already chipped did a lot better: 152 of 283 went home in 2025, and 77 of 98 so far this year. Staff also said 9 of the 18 peer cities they looked at already require chips.

Also, if you adopt or reclaim a pet from the shelter, it already has to be chipped before it leaves.

If you want to chip your pet regardless, staff said it's $10 at Animal Management and free through the end of October.

I put the whole timeline together on my personal website, going back to when the advisory board first recommended it in 2025. Every item there links to its source, mostly the original City documents (agendas, minutes, city code, the meeting video) plus local news coverage, so you can check it yourself: https://amarilloledger.com/events/pet-microchipping/

It's free, no login. If I got something wrong let me know and I'll fix it.

So what do you all think? Would you support making it mandatory, or should it stay voluntary?

Has anyone had a wedding/reception at Mack Dick Pavilion in Palo Duro Canyon? Looking for photos + practical setup advice

My daughter is getting married at Mack Dick Pavilion in Palo Duro Canyon this Dec, and I’m trying to get a better feel for the space before the wedding. (We live in Austin and I haven't been able to tour the venue) I’ve found a few professional wedding galleries, but I would especially love to hear from anyone who has actually had a wedding there, attended one, or worked one as a photographer/vendor.

I’d love to see any photos you have of the inside of the pavilion, kitchen/corridor area, porch/exterior at night, beverage setups, table layouts, dance floor, cake table, etc. Even phone pictures would be really helpful.

A few specific questions:

  • How did you arrange tables for around 130–150 guests? With space for a dance floor.
  • We are planning for ceremony outside - then moving all rented chairs from ceremony (and flowers from ceremony) inside for reception. Daughter wants coffee bar and charcuterie served outside while she takes pictures - then moving inside for buffet dinner from food truck. Will use outdoor supplied seating during social hour.
  • Did you use the kitchen/service area for beverages? There appears to be a small built-in counter/bar near the kitchen, and I’m trying to figure out how much usable space is actually there. *We’re using a food truck that does not provide drinks, and we’re not serving alcohol. We’ll have a mobile coffee bar (outside preferably but may be too cold) plus bottled water and sodas in coolers or tubs (trying to rent or borrow galvanized metal tubs but haven't found any yet), so I’m especially trying to figure out the best place and setup for beverages.
  • Did anyone add 5-foot tables in the hallway near the kitchen/corridor for drinks or food?
  • If you have pictures of the fridge / freezer that would be helpful also - we will need to store 8-10 bags of ice in the freezer potentially - and 140 charcuterie cups in the fridge before wedding.
  • Where did you put your cake/dessert table, coffee bar, gifts/cards, DJ, etc.?
  • Were you able to use some of their round and square entry way tables for guest book/gifts etc?
  • Did you do an exit after dark? We’re considering bubbles, and I’d love to know how well-lit the porch/entrance area was at night.
  • Any quirks about the venue that you wish you had known ahead of time?

We already have the official floor plan and a few venue photos, so I’m mostly hoping for real wedding photos and firsthand experience that show how people actually used the space.

Thank you!

Moving to Amarillo – Which part of town is best to live in?

Hey everyone!
I'm moving to Amarillo for work by the end of October and looking for a good 1-bedroom apartment.
I'll be working near Claude, TX, so I'm trying to figure out which side of Amarillo would be best for commuting while still having grocery stores, gyms, restaurants, and other things nearby.
My budget is around $800–$1,000/month.
I'd appreciate any suggestions on good neighborhoods, apartment complexes, or areas I should avoid.
Also, how's the overall lifestyle in Amarillo for someone in their late 20s?
Thanks in advance!

Edit: I'm also open to sharing a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment with a roomate. If anyone is looking for a roommate or has any leads, feel free to reach out!
