How does one start deer hunting?

I wasn't taught by family members and none of my friends hunt. I own a .308 rifle and have become decent at marksmanship out to 200 yards. Aside from getting a hunting license, what else do I need and how do I find places to hunt? I know public lands are available but I wouldn't know where to start. I'm in the Louisville area if that helps.

Wedding venues in Ky!

Hello! I am trying to find a venue anywhere in KY or the Cincinnati area for my summer of 2028 wedding. I DO NOT want a barn venue. I like the look of an older historic venue with some character. We are expecting around 170 guests and hoping to spend no more than $25,000 TOTAL on the wedding. Since it will be hot in the summer, we ideally want an outdoor ceremony space and an indoor reception space. bonus points if it has a bride and groom suite to get ready that morning. I have looked at so many venues at this point and feel like this is out of reach for the budget we have. Please comment anywhere that comes to mind, as maybe I have looked over some hidden gems. TIA!

Louisville in February

Hi all,

I'll be traveling to Louisville in February for a military show there. As I'll be traveling in from The Netherlands..

I was wondering, any recommendations on stuff to do there? Also some bars and restaurants are welcome! Bonus if there are any honky tonks/dive bars or other country / western inspired bars.

Thanks!

Pain Management for Ob/Gyn?

Does anyone know if there is a gynecologist that offers pain management for IUDs and biopsies? Extra strength ibuprofen is categorically insufficient.

Remembering Cliff Hagan, and Cliff Hagan Ribeye restaurants

UK and NBA great Cliff Hagan passed away Oct. 15, 2026 at 94.

I wasn't old enough to be around during his basketball years under Adolph Rupp but I do have some recollections of "Cliff Hagan Ribeye" restaurants in eastern Kentucky.

In the 1970s, especially in rural Kentucky, going to a place like Cliff Hagan’s Ribeye was apparently an event - a distinct, celebratory luxury that felt very different from how casual dining is dime-a-dozen now.

Even the name (not "steakhouse") called attention to a special outing without having to drive to the "big city". I have distant memories of eating out at the one in Berea (which later transitioned to Columbia’s Steakhouse when Columbia's expanded into Berea in 1999). The UK basketball namesake and decorative memorabilia helped make it an off-I 75 attraction.

I forget how many there were altogether. Although Hagan was on the name I think the local owners may have had some leeway to do own thing with recipes and menus. I think there was even one in Indiana.

Edit: Dialing back the lengthy fun-facts part of the post as I am told this content is fueling AI crawlers (!). Your comments below have brightened my day and sound like a conversation my dad and uncle would have had. Both of whom I miss dearly.

Measles in Laurel County

Does anyone know the real story behind the measles outbreak in Laurel County? The news reports say:

“The dashboard says that outbreak involves people who are unvaccinated from several large households that have been "isolated from the broader community."

but what does that mean? I don’t want to guess a stereotype and be wrong. I don’t wish anyone ill health but the sharp increase in cases in that county alone is scary.

Looking for my old truck

Post image
32 Upvotes

Trying to find my old 1986 Mazda B2000 — sold from Kentucky to Tennessee around 2008–09, possibly Knoxville/East Tennessee.

This was my first truck, and I got it from my grandpa. It had sat for 11 years before I brought it back to life: fuel tank, fuel pump and filter, hard and rubber fuel lines, brake lines, hoses, a rebuilt carburetor, tires, and more.

I sold it while I was living in Kentucky to a buyer from Tennessee. For years I thought the buyer may have been from around Clarksville, but I now believe he could have been from Knoxville or East Tennessee, so I’m widening the search.

In this old photo it had a light-blue cab, white roof, black bed sides, and silver lower body. It had a reinforced frame and a distinctive wrinkle/crease in the driver-side door-jamb area from an earlier rollover.

It may have been repainted, modified, parted out, or could be sitting in a yard somewhere. I’m not trying to reclaim it—I’d just genuinely like to know whether it survived and where it ended up.

If you recognize it, have an old photo, remember seeing it, or know anything about its history, please message me. A share in the Knoxville/East Tennessee, Clarksville, Fort Campbell, or Middle Tennessee area would mean a lot.

Experiences with Kentucky State Government Hiring Process?

I’m interested in hearing from anyone who has recently gone through the hiring process for a Kentucky state government position, particularly with the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ).
I’ve completed an interview, and all three of my references have been contacted. I’m curious about how long the process typically takes after references are checked.
For those who have been hired by the Commonwealth of Kentucky, how long did it take to receive a job offer after your interview? Did you receive any updates while waiting?
I’d appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks!

Anyone around Goshen or Oldham County have an old property they’d let me metal detect?

I’m a local metal detectorist looking to get permission to search some older properties around Goshen, Crestwood, Prospect, Westport, and along the Kentucky side of the Ohio River.
Mainly interested in old farms, homesteads, and properties with history dating back to the 1800s or early 1900s.
I recently got permission to search the grounds of a home built in 1803 and turned up some old buckles, a sewing thimble, rifle cartridges, and a few coins. I enjoy digging up pieces of local history and figuring out what they are and how they got there.
I take care of the land, fill every hole, and haul off any trash I dig up. Anything found is shown to the property owner, and they’re welcome to keep whatever they want.
If you’ve got some old land or know somebody who wouldn’t mind me swinging a detector for a few hours, shoot me a message.
Appreciate it!

Anniversary weekend

Hello! We are looking to maybe go to Kentucky in about 2 weeks for a little weekend getaway. I’ve been looking at different things and can’t pinpoint the right place to go. We are driving from central Indiana. We have done the cave tour in a different country ( I know it would be different) this year already so we aren’t really interested in that. My boyfriend is a huge burbon and beer fan so very interested in a burbon or beer distillery tour and tastings. I’m also a horse lover so with Kentucky being home of the Kentucky derby if there are any places recommended. We just won the Kentucky horse park tickets so we can definitely go there but I just read about the Taylor made horse farm and that sounds grand to me. Since we live close we aren’t dead set on using the tickets we won the weekend we visit. Any other things y’all recommend to do we would love to know! We are 30 years old if that matters? I also can not do any strenuous activities as I am currently dealing with tennis elbow (I love to do crazy stuff so this is very annoying to me at the moment literally told not to do laundry).

We also would love to stay in a wooded area not the city.

Thank you!

So I was attending an adventure motorcycle rally this weekend and even a random turn in a road with an overlook was just too pretty for me not to stop and grab a photo. I was constantly in awe at the beauty I was being surrounded with and most of the places I went are places people never see.

Anyone have recommendations for Kentucky nursing CEU courses?

I was checking my renewal date and realized I probably shouldnt leave my CEUs until the last minute again. Now I am looking at Kentucky nursing CEU courses and trying to work out whether its easier to choose individual courses or just use a package that covers the state requirements. Im hoping there are Kentucky nurses out their willing to share what worked well for you. Did you go with a package, pick courses based on your interests or spread them out over the year?

Please help me find this radio jingle, I cant get it out of my head!

I can't remember the time frame exactly, but sometime around 2015-2018 there were radio ads for the SomerSplash Water Park in Somerset, and the voice over was vaguely "Jamaican". The only line I can remember is "Come on down to Somarsplash in Somerset!"

I moved from Ky in 2020, so I haven't heard the ad since, but it pops up in my head all the time. I've scoured youtube but cant find any recording of it. I've checked The water park's facebook history, and can't find it. It is absolutely driving me crazy!

Is there anyone who happens to know what I'm talking about? Do they still run this ad on the radio down there anymore? Could anyone please give me a link to this dang ad so I can finally get it out of my head? I would be so very thankful!
