August 2025 Freetalk Fridays
Hi Everyone, welcome to the long series of weekly Greytalk posts. You can literally ask about anything related to greyhounds, no matter how basic or complex. Here are the rules:
- Nothing illegal or extremely objectionable.
- No abuse. You can ask for more information, you can explain why you don't like something, but you can't abuse the poster.
- Don't take medical advice from strangers on the internet without consulting your vet!
- The rest of the Greyddit Rules still apply.
If you think of more ideas, PM the mods .

Time to relax
Toby’s new favorite place to sleep. Took quite a few wiggles to get out of there. Yes, he chewed up the legs of the chaise as well.

Thought you might enjoy my latest painting of my girl breaking free
We all love to see our dogs breaking free from the racing industry and finding themselves in their new homes. I certainly do. And because I'm new to acrylic painting and waned to practice with more experimental styles a little, I thought my own girl would be the perfect subject.

The happiest boy has a major mass.
Found a marble size mass in his mouth. Surgery and biopsy on Wednesday. He’s not showing any signs of discomfort or stress. Still worried. Still scared. We just let go his brother in July. Not at all prepared to say good bye to my forever puppy.

Advice Bald patch on neck - any tips to help fur grow back?
Hi everyone - my greyhound Pino is 3 years old, and we adopted him about 4 months ago. He finished racing in January 2026. When we first got him, we noticed a small bald patch on his neck, but it’s gotten significantly bigger recently.
Any tips on helping his fur grow back? I’m open to suggestions for supplements, oils, food, etc.
I know bald spots can be pretty common in greyhounds, but I’m wondering if anyone has had luck getting their fur to grow back. Thank you!

Meet Circe
She's home with us for her trial...
Been here a day, I'm a single mum with two kids, she has done beautifully so far (and so have the kids to be fair with given her space).
Already knows the French for "down" :)

Advice Stuck for what to do
Hello everyone!
I’m looking for some advice and honestly feel like a failure having to consider this. I’ve recently had a baby and sadly my hounds are not coping well with the transition at all. It’s been 4 months now and we are starting to wonder if rehoming them may be in their best interest. I love these dogs to pieces and I just want to do what’s going to be best for them.
I’ve posted before about my grey greyhound and her reactivity. She has a history of biting people (not drawing blood) and reactivity with other dogs. It all stems out of anxiety and we took her to the vet, she’s medicated now and has improved slightly but continues to struggle. She seems extremely withdrawn and just not herself. The vet suspected she is noise reactive so I can imagine a baby is not helping. She’s the sweetest most well behaved dog 96% of the time and she just loves being loved.
My brindle hound is the polar opposite. He’s energetic and the most cheeky opportunistic dog . He can open doors, steals anything he can off a bench and will let you know if his routine if off. He can be very energetic and has no spatial awareness and has almost jumped onto the baby when he let himself into our room and launched onto the bed (he’s not allowed on the bed). We’ve added a baby gates to the house to prevent this but it’s been very stressful. He has not been coping either and has been barking at the neighbours dogs more.
They also regularly howl in the night and wake everyone up including the baby. I’m already awake with the baby every 1-4 hours so this extra wake up is really getting to me.
I feel awful that we don’t have the same time to give them anymore and I can tell that they aren’t coping well with this. I do really worry about how we will manage once our baby is moving. I don’t think it’s safe to have either dog in the same room as the baby once this happens given what I’ve described above. They’ll likely end up spending alot of time outside or in other rooms of the house and I don’t think that’s fair on them.
I truly love my dogs and I never thought I’d be someone who considered this.I guess I’m hoping someone has a magic solution or some advice. Thank you in advanced!

My grey took a rat in her mouth for 5 seconds
Hi guys, I know I might freak out too much but yesterday evening while on a walk my sweet girl took a rat in her mouth for 5 seconds approximately. I immediately screamed at her and she dropped it and I cleaned her mouth with wet wipes ( I had this with me at the moment) do you think I need to worry ?

Personal Mr. Reeves - My Black Grey
I’d like everyone to meet Mr. Reeves, our ex-racing greyhound! Getting a greyhound is genuinely one of the best things we’ve ever done.
Seeing the difference in him now, from how much he’s come out of his shell and simply learning how to be a dog is amazing. He’s made friends of all shapes and sizes and is honestly just the best boy.
He’s four and a half years old now, and we’ve been lucky enough to have him since January.
He was actually "disqualified" from racing after a huge accident that required over 60 stitches. Amazingly, he didn’t break a single bone and only has the scar left to show for it now.

Jojo on the beach
She had a nice splash from the surf, and I was a little concerned that she might get in a little too far— but she bounced out for more zooming on the sand.

2 galgos being galgos
I posted about my Lou boy passing yesterday. I was looking through my old media, just enjoying the memories and found this gem.
This is Lou and Bimba(a sweet girl we were fostering at the time) full on running around a fenced in children's park... it was early so we took advantage

Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Hi everyone! We adopted our lovely greyhound girl Saga 2 years ago and she’s now 4 years old (image for attention<3). She was already spayed when we adopted her.
Saga has occasionally been having a milky/white discharge from her private area. At one point the area also seemed very irritated and when we cleaned it the wipe would be brown/reddish.
We’ve taken her to the vet for several checks (including general examination, urine test and an ultrasound). So far everything has come back normal. She was prescribed antibiotics and a topical spray treatment for the irritation.
The treatment seems to have helped. She’s no longer irritated and the wipe is no longer brown or red when we clean her. Since she have an “innie” we were recommended to clean her after every pee. However, she still occasionally has some discharge which makes us a bit worried.
She seems completely fine. She’s eating, drinking, sleeping, playing and behaving just as she normally does.
Has anyone experienced discharge in their greyhound? Did you ever find out what was causing it? Was any treatment needed or did it turn out to be harmless?
