Question I’ve had this box from my grandfather for about 10 years, it was locked and he gave me the key(which I lost during my twenties). And this was what I found inside yesterday. I have no clue about gold.
The necklace piece stood out the most to me, the clasp says 14k, but I’m unsure about the decorative gold around the coin. I’m sorry I know nothing about this.

Found in a bag of change
I was looking through my parents(deceased) change drawer and I found this gold coin. I don’t know, it looks pretty cool. I think it’s somewhere around half an ounce, very cool looking though. I guess it’s a keychain. Any thoughts

Question Why is this coin so "rough", for a lack of better word?
Hello fellow gold collectors!
Recently I purchased a new large Franz Iosef gold coin. The coin was purchased from a goldmith I trust, though he acted as an intermediary for me. The thing is, this latest coin has a weird, glossy, almost rough surface. While the coin feels in every other concievable way like the coins I have from earlier (weight, temperature absorbtion, shape, size), and I don't seriously doubt its authenticity, I can't understand why this one has such a glossy surface. It's looks like it's been shaved by sandpaper. Can anyone comment as to why this difference is present? All my other gold coins and bars are otherwise shiny and reflective as hell. The first coin im the video is an older coin for comparisson, the second coin is the new one in question.
Thanks for your insights!

Shitpost Made my first ingot button
I had some gold crowns that I decided to melt into a button. So satisfying watching it melt, and cleaning/polishing it up was fun too. 68-69% purity. This is my first attempt after buying a small melting dish and some borax flux.
I am going to sell it for cash and thought it would be much easier to sell for cash than raw dental scraps!

Question Gutter Gold Find?
My partner found this while walking in the Bronx more than a decade ago. I thought the make looked pretty cheap and the A is slightly tarnished (looks like a different metal from the rest) I assumed it was costume jewelry, but today I noticed “417C” hallmark inside the band. Maybe it’s actually 10K gold? The color looks right, and I guess the cheepish feel is because the metal is so thin. Weighs 1.4g but my scale wasn’t sensitive enough to measure specific gravity. What do you all think?

Question Real or fake or plated?
Edit: I found a magnet and it’s not magnetic. It feels relatively heavy for its size.
I’m at goodwill with no way to test it…

Gold ETF to save for physical
Does it make sense to use a gold etf in a tax advantaged account to dollar cost average into and then sell and convert to physical when you have enough for a full coin. Reasons being that is smooths out the price compared to saving in cash and allows you to avoid buying high premium fractional. I don't see people mentioning this as a strategy, am i missing something?
