Ressource Gemini 4 Argon usage on Pro plan compared to Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra

Post image
396 Upvotes

I just completed my first round of testing with Gemini 4 Argon in Antigravity. The amount of usage one gets Gemini 4 Argon on the Gemini AI PRO plan is very limited. Here is how it compares to Claude and ChatGPT plans on similar level.

Preliminary number show you get about 17x the usage with Opus 5.5 and about 7x the usage with GPT-6 Astra if you have Claude Pro plan or ChatGPT Plus plan. This was tested with coding tasks.

I really hope Google increases this soon. It seems to be a great model.

Like all discounted or sponsored pro users have so many limitations then why release that at all.
Should have created a custom category between plus and pro for these why name it PRO and give nothing as pro subscriptions
No collab usage as pro
No models
No cloud credits
Then better off not give any lol

🥇 CONTEST 🥇 Gemini Argan 4 is the least token efficient and the biggest usage eater , and the slowest model to complete a task

This is the worst thing i have ever seen from a frontier model

I just send him like very basic normal task which is test and verify a small fauture , but he take like 15m? and eat 21% usage in the weekly argon usage

Argon is waste of time!

Discussion Gemini 4 Argon is fascinating

I've been using it over API via OMP since release. Hoping it gets added to Antigravity with API soon so I can use the native harness.

The model is absolutely fascinating. I'm getting similar vibes to what I felt when OpenAI released GPT-5.2 and when Moonshot AI released Kimi K3, where it's so far ahead of the competition yet benchmarks don't correctly showcase it. It's so damn thorough. Relatively fast. It's finally usable in agentic scenarios unlike the Gemini 2.5/3 series (except for 3.8 Flash of course).

I was basically using infinite GPT-6 Astra/GPT-6.1 Sol and Claude Opus 5.5 through work. Argon's default output can be a bit annoying (still league better than Opus and GPT-6/6.1), but with poteto's unslop skill, I get extremely satisfying results. It also writes good code. It's not a zero-shot beast, but if you have verifiable work, this thing is nuts.

I've let GPT-6.1 and Opus 5.5 (through CVP) attempt a cybersecurity, RE-related task I've given them. 2 days of /goal on both with very little progress and straight up burning money. Argon figured it out so quickly. This model reeks of "big model smell", it just knows all the niche shit I throw at it so extremely well. The classifiers only bother me if I do vulnerability research, which is expected; but I don't do that often so it's fine for my use.

Absolute beast. Hope to see some improvements in token efficiency with Carbon or whatever the next iteration of this model is.

Well done, Google DeepMind. Please keep it up.

Discussion Gemini 4 Flash is going to be phenomenal

So currently, Google AI users have:

  1. Gemini 3.8 Flash, which is a very good model: it is super fast, uses very little quota (I run it non-stop on high and it never exhausts my Pro plan), and is intelligent enough to do most work with very little issues. Contrary to what people here say, it is actually very good at following instructions if you are giving it clear commands.

  2. Gemini 4 Argon, which is extremely intelligent and is made for hard tasks, but is slow and too pricey (my weekly quota is gone in one hour of usage), which makes it too unfeasible for anyone to use.

The next logical step for Google is to release Gemini 4 Flash. Following the improvements of 3.6, 3.7, 3.8 it is reasonable to expect that 4 Flash:
- will be cheaper or at least comparable in price to 3.8 Flash
- will be as fast or at least comparable in speed to 3.8 Flash
- will be much smarter than 3.8, given how much smarter Argon is.

I fully expect 4 Flash to be the greatest workhorse model that has ever been released. Google is going to cook hard.

Discussion I hate Argon limits

I mean yeah it's a powerful model I guess. I don't even care that I get to limits after ≈5 prompts. I hate the fact that after that Gemini 3.8 Flash and Gemini 3.1 Pro are blocked too. Gemini Flash-Lite is really really dumb. I think Google should divide limits for Pro/Flash and Argon, because now it's unusable

Help/question For the Argon token burn - did you take these steps?

Yes believe it or not I wrote this and use the command+B to bold the names lol.

Install Serena - comes from Claude Code. Just tell Antigravity 2.0 to install it.
-Generally saves between 40% to 70% for coding and 80% when bug hunting.

Tell it to add the Surgical Reading rule. Instructs the AI to never read 500+ line files repeatedly—search for the exact line number first and only read a 40–100 line slice.

xcodemake builds 60% to 90% faster plus saves about 15% to 25% of your quota.

Install Playwrite and xcodebuild MCP - Lets the AI take its own screenshots and inspect the live app so you don't waste 5–10 turns going back and forth describing UI/layout bugs.

Help/question Something wrong with limits on Argon?

Yesterday and today every message complicated more than "hello" eat about 33% of 5h usage limit. Wtf? Only 3-4 prompts for 5h. Why not one, Google?

Even astra on high or opus 5.5 (high) gave me about 50+ prompts for 5 hours.

Discussion Another Annual Google Play W

Post image
26 Upvotes

Disclaimer: I'm diamond tier in Google Play, so I'm not sure if there's a minimum tier you need to claim this or not.

This is becoming a yearly thing with Google Play. Pro tier on Google to try for three months around the 4th quarter of the year until Jan.

I can confirm if you've renewed your Pro subscription within the last 5 days (my experience personally I'm not sure if there's a minimum or maximum time) it will replace your current subscription and refund you - Interested to see how far out from renewal and then claim this to get refunded still.

Just have to go to Play Store -> Play Points -> Perks and scroll down to see if it's there.

Obviously if you pay for Ultra already, this doesn't matter much, unless you plan to downgrade for a few months. I already pay for Pro and Max with GPT and Claude, so I haven't been able to justify paying for Google Ultra since before Fable/Astra, and just using Pro for all of the Google One suites it gives. With Gemini 4 Argon available on Pro now, though, definitely going to take advantage and enjoy the free months!

In case I need to say it, Google has always shipped more than just Gemini in their Google One subs, which I think always made it worth it to have at least a minimum tier

Help/question Wtf is this rate limit bro?

Is Gemini 4 the magic genie or something? I get like 10 questions max at any given time. God forbid I ask it to code something. And not only is access to Argon cut off, access to 3.8 Flash and 3.1 Pro is also gone. Like what?? 😂 I did not expect this penny-pinching shit from Google, the multi-trillion-dollar business. Their model is nowhere near as good to be doing this crap

Discussion Gemini Argon surprised me with an unexpected discovery

I recently used Gemini Argon to analyze my annual energy overview and gas, water, and electricity bills. My goal was to get a better idea of what monthly advance payment to set for next year, considering the rising gas prices in Europe.

During the analysis, it spotted a potential mistake on my invoice involving taxes that I might be entitled to get back (significant amount). I contacted my energy provider, and after checking, they confirmed the error and agreed to issue a refund.

I hadn't even thought to look for something like this. I originally just wanted help understanding my bills and planning for next year, so this was a pretty nice surprise!

Discussion Argon Thoughts + Subreddit State

For context, I've been bouncing around to the best LLM for my use cases since 2023, I work as a software developer, solo game dev and writer. ChatGPT -> Gemini -> Claude, now back to Gemini. I've been on the Claude Max x20 subscription for the last few months and mainly use Fable 5.1 with Opus 5.5 as the workhorse.

When Argon finally released I grabbed the ultra plan so I could do A/B comparisons between Argon and Fable for my use cases and compare the weekly usage drain per-prompt (my prompts are pretty consistently 100k - 200k token one-shots with follow-ups, either coding or writing contexts).

Based on my assessment:
- Argon sits pretty squarely above Opus and around Fable in terms of overall performance.
- Communication style is significantly better than Fable and especially the old Opus 5 (no literary or aphoristic bias e.g. 'that holds', 'that's the whole thing', abstract event-object type shit).
- Cheaper than Fable, more expensive than Opus (my prompts on the basic ultra plan hit Argon usage at the same rate my max plan hits Fable usage, almost 1:1).
- Much better performance at high context size. For reference, Opus and Fable even have a tendency to shut down thinking after like 150k tokens and get narrower, with Opus losing focus fast. Argon chugs along at 250k tokens and is still performing like 100k, which is shocking to me.
- Makes more mistakes than Fable, but self-audits at a significantly higher rate. For example, when I give Fable or Opus two runs of the same prompt and ask for a comparison, it will almost always accept the framing of the second run or stay within the bounds both runs create, while Argon **will reject both runs if they're both wrong** and identify problems I didn't even see.

---

Second thing, I'm surprised that I cannot find much conversion on this sub about the new model's actual performance. Rate limits and access, totally understandable topics. My standard is based on the Claude subreddits though where there's pretty much non-stop posts either bashing problems or bashing the bashers.

I've been reading the sub casually and have noticed what I think are bots:
1.) A couple of vague and somewhat confusing posts praising Argon
2.) A couple of commenters aggressively (and vaguely) bashing Argon
3.) People calling out some of the posts as likely bots (because more obvious), but not comments

Note about why the comments in question read as bots: 1-4 week old accounts who have posted on like maybe two subs (e.g. one posted only here and on worldnews), and their actual comments are more convincing as human like "Argon sucks" and "shut up" (lol).

The combination makes me wonder if there's like a really weird astroturfing going on where bots #1 make bots #2 more effective. I could absolutely be wrong and it's actually a convergence of really weird behavior (from my biased perspective), but still worth being a little more critical whether its blind praise or blind hate.

NanoBanana Gemini image generation is completely ruined

Gemini has a good AI for image editing, but the way it’s censored is a total mess. Is there any open-source alternative? One moment it complains that the image is unsafe, the next it’s about third-party providers’ interests (for a meme lol). Basically, they ruined a cool AI with this crap.

Help/question Suddenly the usage limits are insanely low?

So I am an AI noob, I only have a AI Plus subscription and I just use the Gemini website. No plugins, no API, nothing like that, I am using Gemini like a grandpa. What I do use a lot is the image function, I mostly edit images, remaster old photographs, stuff like that. Image to image generation.

A couple of days ago I noticed a huge change concerning the usage limits. Before that point generating one image took about 2% of my 5 hour usage limit, so I could generate about 10 images per hour. Now, when I use "Pro" and "Thinking level: high" (another new thing that confuses me) it takes THIRTEEN percent. That's 7 images every 5 hours instead of 50. This is insane.

Am I doing something wrong? Is this a temporary thing? Does anyone else have this problem? What should I do? I know AI Plus is a very low tier, but that jump from 50 to 7 just isn't right. And even if I upgrade to the next tier, which I won't be able to because I don't have that money for that, that would be 14 images instead of 50. And I would have to pay almost triple the money.

Discussion Gemini 4 drains the quota so fast

Post image
14 Upvotes

I am currently using Google AI Ultra x20. Previously, when using Gemini 3.8, I would almost always have about 30% of my weekly quota remaining by the time it reset. With Gemini 4, however, the quota is exhausted in just over two days.

It’s also worth noting that the current pricing for Gemini 4 is on par with Claude Sonnet; I’ve previously used Claude Max x20 and never once had to worry about my quota while using Sonnet.

Discussion Argon Usage Limits

Yesterday when I use Argon (Medium thinking) to generate 1 short story, it use around 5 to 7% of Usage. But today, using the same prompt as I use yesterday, it now use around 30-40% Usage. This is crazy. Is google screwing around again!?
