Help/question Man I hate this-

Post image

What's the issue with gemini? This is not the first time I've seen this error shi and ngl it have never been this annoying. Even the Flash Lite model is unusable. Whats the use of Student plan when you can't even use Gemini efficiently/peacefully for studying?

Some of y'all might say "Jus use argon GNG" but yesterday a simple question formation prompt costed me 30% of my 4hour quota. Fuh Google atp

Help/question No, really, are we (non-paid Pro plan users) getting left with 3.8 Flash only?

• Upvotes

That's ridicolous. Atleast you should have not removed 3.1 Pro for us...

But yeah, please give us 4 Argon, Google. It's pity behaviour from this company.

Help/question Gemini Canvas no longer opens in the side panel. It now opens inline in the chat (for about a month). Anyone else?

Until about mid-September, when I used Canvas mode, the document opened in a side panel next to the chat (first image).

For the last month, it opens inline inside the chat instead (second image).

I have already tried the expand icon on the Canvas bar. It does not bring back the side-by-side view.

Setup: Windows 11, Gemini installed as a Chrome app, Pro model.

Is this a UI change, a setting I have missed, or a bug? Is there any way to get the side panel back?

Discussion How is your experience with integrated interactive artifacts in chat?

I want to have some opinions on how useful you find these artifacts that Gemini creates on the chat to help to understand a problem, because I find them useless, both in regular chat and Canvas mode (with 4 argon too). They feel ultra low effort and most of the time buggy and not accurate, with very bad GUI design.

Any tips?

Discussion Argon Thoughts + Subreddit State

For context, I've been bouncing around to the best LLM for my use cases since 2023, I work as a software developer, solo game dev and writer. ChatGPT -> Gemini -> Claude, now back to Gemini. I've been on the Claude Max x20 subscription for the last few months and mainly use Fable 5.1 with Opus 5.5 as the workhorse.

When Argon finally released I grabbed the ultra plan so I could do A/B comparisons between Argon and Fable for my use cases and compare the weekly usage drain per-prompt (my prompts are pretty consistently 100k - 200k token one-shots with follow-ups, either coding or writing contexts).

Based on my assessment:
- Argon sits pretty squarely above Opus and around Fable in terms of overall performance.
- Communication style is significantly better than Fable and especially the old Opus 5 (no literary or aphoristic bias e.g. 'that holds', 'that's the whole thing', abstract event-object type shit).
- Cheaper than Fable, more expensive than Opus (my prompts on the basic ultra plan hit Argon usage at the same rate my max plan hits Fable usage, almost 1:1).
- Much better performance at high context size. For reference, Opus and Fable even have a tendency to shut down thinking after like 150k tokens and get narrower, with Opus losing focus fast. Argon chugs along at 250k tokens and is still performing like 100k, which is shocking to me.
- Makes more mistakes than Fable, but self-audits at a significantly higher rate. For example, when I give Fable or Opus two runs of the same prompt and ask for a comparison, it will almost always accept the framing of the second run or stay within the bounds both runs create, while Argon **will reject both runs if they're both wrong** and identify problems I didn't even see.

---

Second thing, I'm surprised that I cannot find much conversion on this sub about the new model's actual performance. Rate limits and access, totally understandable topics. My standard is based on the Claude subreddits though where there's pretty much non-stop posts either bashing problems or bashing the bashers.

I've been reading the sub casually and have noticed what I think are bots:
1.) A couple of vague and somewhat confusing posts praising Argon
2.) A couple of commenters aggressively (and vaguely) bashing Argon
3.) People calling out some of the posts as likely bots (because more obvious), but not comments

Note about why the comments in question read as bots: 1-4 week old accounts who have posted on like maybe two subs (e.g. one posted only here and on worldnews), and their actual comments are more convincing as human like "Argon sucks" and "shut up" (lol).

The combination makes me wonder if there's like a really weird astroturfing going on where bots #1 make bots #2 more effective. I could absolutely be wrong and it's actually a convergence of really weird behavior (from my biased perspective), but still worth being a little more critical whether its blind praise or blind hate.

Briefly, I got a new battery put into my car. I asked Gemini about the battery and it came back with a warning that the battery is unsafe for the car.

I asked Gemini to find official manuals and link them. Gemini linked 2 manuals and provided a direct quote. When I read the manual, the quote doesn't exist and I called it out....

Help/question Can you help me with a problem I'm having with the scrolling in Gemini?

What happens here is that when I send an image or a simple reply to Gemini, the scroll bar shoots up like crazy, sometimes forcing me to scroll way down when there are already several replies, or wait for things to load because the scroll bar shot up so far that new or old replies have to reload to appear. and although I don't know when this started, I suppose it was when I pressed the enter key twice at the same time to send an image, making each message equivalent to two or more replies in one, and even though I deleted the conversation where it started, it keeps happening with new or old conversations, that is, those that were before the conversation where the error appeared. I even tried deleting all the browser data to see what would happen, but it's still the same. So, how can I fix this?

Help/question Is there any way to claim Google AI Pro instead of Plus with the student offer?

Last year students got the Pro tier for free but this year it defaults to Google AI Plus. I've seen a few people still get Pro is that just restricted to US accounts or is there a way to switch/upgrade to Pro under the free student offer?

Discussion Flash 3.8 feels smarter than Pro 3.1 for complex long context multi steps projects. Anyone feels the same?

I recently developed a project that took about 700k tokens, with lots of files and constant use of context window. Flash 3.8 was able to keep the reasoning, accuracy and task connection much better than Pro 3.1 did.

I used AI Studio for this and sadly, as PRO users, google denied us Argon 4.0 which sucks, but Flash 3.8 seems pretty competent.

Using Argon 4.0 in the gemini client for long projects is terrible. Argon is a very powerful model but you just can't make the most out of it in web. Long and complex answers for projects with multiple files make it almost useless in web client.

Discussion Is Flash 3.8 coming to Gemini Plus?

Title

Argon is exciting but most of us here have no use for SOTA level intelligence when the Flash models are exceeding good at OCR and instruction following already.

That being said, does anyone know if us on the Plus plan will get 3.8 anytime soon?

Discussion Anyone else noticing gauges filling up super fast again, just like back in May?

Hey everyone. I've been using Gemini since April, and I saw the rollout of the sliding windows and weekly usage limits back in May (at least in France, not sure about other countries). These limits have since been visible as gauges that fill up as you use Gemini.

I remember that back in May, the gauges were filling up extremely fast, and I feel like we're seeing the exact same thing since early October, right around the pricing announcements for models above Flash-Lite. Am I imagining things?

I personally only use Flash-Lite since it's enough for my use case, and up until now, my meter always stayed at 0%, probably thanks to a tweak Google made. I'd like to believe the same pattern will repeat, because honestly, watching the gauge fill up this fast for no good reason just isn't normal. I'm hoping quotas will get loosened up again like they did around June/July. What do you guys think?

Help/question Any way to use Gemini in Microsoft Excel?

I recently switched to Gemini, I used to use the ChatGPT add-on in excel before, but from what i have seen there is no native connector or add on for excel in Gemini. Is there any other way i can use excel with gemini.

Also unrelated i want gemini to read and edit files directly on my mac, i've heard antigravity can do that, but i don't really understand the platform, anyone got a good guide or youtube video i can use to familiarize myself with antigravity?

News Gemini 4 Argon (high) codeing agent review first impression.

Post image
0 Upvotes

I find that it's actually amazing. It takes a while and plans first like Claude and slower output than flash but far less regressions. It does burn through usage far quicker than 3.8 flash but if it is producing better code then it is a good trade-off for me. I've only used Claude a few different times because he is not on my plan. So my experience for comparison is limited. I am also new to code development, started vibe coding 6 months ago and obsessing over every detail. I have learned so much and have a deep appreciation for developers, 🤍 all of you out there vibing or actually writing the code. Let's make some really good products and change the world

Ressource Cloning the Code to Animation demo using Opus 5.5

Prototyped a clone of the Code to Animation demo for Gemini 4 Argon using Claude. Without too much effort I think the model did a reasonable job of reproducing the original animation using just code. I haven't combed through the files myself yet, but figured it wouldn't hurt to share in case anyone else wanted to take this clone further or learn from it.

The repo includes a site to edit the animations like in the video and additional characters you can swap out the original with.
