Hello everyone, I’m looking to connect with other Dominicans in tech. I’ve gone through most of my online CS degree without meeting or coming across any Dominicans, and I’m really looking to connect and get to know others in the same tech community.
I’m in Florida; not a whole lot is going on in the city I’m living in, but I plan on relocating as soon as I can land some software engineering intern role or tech-related positions. Any help is appreciated, and I’m looking forward to getting to know some of you guys, if you’re interested and know what you guys do.
I spent most of my life living in the DR because of family, and now, for the same reasons, I’m living here in the States.
Any advice to break into the industry and get to know more people is greatly appreciated.

I feel so misrepresented and feel like our culture is so missed represented even among other latinos in the US. I feel like people think that being Dominican is saying vania or klk , dembow and all the Dominican papi and other trash trends online. When i meet people and tell them i am Domincan the first thing they do is come with these crazy stereotypes. The amount of people who i have met who find out that the Dominican republic is the only flag in the world that has a bible who are shocked as they do not see "Dominicans as religious" or socially conservative/ old school blows my mind. Am i the only one who feels this way?

I’m a U.S. citizen currently living in the Dominican Republic, and I’m curious if anyone here has successfully worked remotely for a U.S.-based company that requires employees to be located in the United States.

I’m specifically interested in companies that provide their own computers and equipment.

For those who have done this:

• How did you handle the company’s location restrictions or IP address checks?
• Did you use a remote desktop setup, VPN, or another arrangement?
• Did the company detect that you were working internationally?
• Were you able to get an international work arrangement approved?

I’d appreciate hearing about real experiences, especially from people working in customer service or other remote positions with company-issued equipment.

Thanks in advance!

i posted this in another group but wanted to post it again cause I really love sharing. for context my mom is from El Cibao, my biological father is African American (NJ and Georgia). The Dutch ancestry comes from his NJ lineage.

My father's grandfather was half Mexican half African American. His Mexican side was from Tamaulipas, Mx and new Mexico, Mx.

My moms side was all from El Cibao for many generations.

(Paternal great grandfather came from Spanish lands possibly Canary Islands and maternal great grandfather came from French lands.)

I saw a couple people posting their updates, and though a lot of DNA ethnic data analysis is speculative, it’s still fun looking at the results since the approximations are still pretty damn accurate. Like the others, I wonder where that Canary Islands uptick came from. Seems really unusually given how small that region is. (Mom side from el Cibao. Dad’s side from Sabana de la Mar)

Holaaa, my husband and I want to buy property in Jarabacoa and build a house, maybe two small houses, one for his parents to live in when they retire in 5 years and the other one for Airbnb rental. We are looking for a property thats in nature, not directly in Jarabacoa, can be like 20 Minutes away from the center. Definitely want a green view, maybe on a hill, not a house in the forest.

Does anybody have some tips for us:
- what area should we look into?
- what do we have to keep in mind when it comes to choosing a property?
- what about landslides or steep property?
- what else do we have to keep in mind when building?

Thanks in advance 🫶🏼❤️🇩🇴
