Artwork [FAN ART] Black & Blue

I haven’t collected comics in years, but I saw recently that one of my absolute favorite characters, Tim Drake (Robin III) has “retired.” While he will always be my favorite Robin, I have enjoyed the fanfic concept of him in a new identity as Blackbird. Then I thought how perfect to team him up with another favorite Bat-Family character of mine, the short-lived and also “retired” character Harper Row AKA Bluebird. Obviously, I’m not a great artist (but at least it’s not AI), but I think you’ll get the point. Together, they’ll leave Gotham BLACK & BLUE.

Looking for DC Comics recommendations – Green Arrow, The Flash, or Batman

• Upvotes

Title: Looking for DC Comics recommendations – Green Arrow, The Flash, or Batman (Absolute?)

Hey everyone!

I'm looking to get into DC Comics and I'm wondering where I should start. I'm particularly interested in Green Arrow and The Flash, but I'd also be open to reading some Batman.

I've been browsing the web and came across the Absolute Batman series, which caught my attention. Would you recommend it as a starting point?

I'm Italian, so recommendations that are available in Italian would be especially appreciated.

What are your favourite runs or storylines for these characters, and which ones would you recommend to a beginner?

Thanks in advance!

The art style seems familiar but I don't recall a run with her having blacklipstick or who this dude is.

I made this for my cousin's sweet 16th birthday! And even though I'm happy that she loved it, I absolutely hated how I drew Hit-Girl's mouth! It's not cartoony enough and doesn't match the expressive style as Teen Titans GO!

Discussion [Discussion] In honor of October, what is your favorite Horror comic/storyline?

Post image

After reading "Quoth the Raven..."Whatever", I was kinda on the fence about most of the stories presented in them. So I was hoping there were better stories to get in the mood for the Spooky Season. The one on the top of my head that encapsulates that feeling is Batman: The Long Halloween with the tone and awesome art style.

Discussion Thoughts on Infinite Crisis [Discussion]

I hate it, but maybe I also don’t understand it? For context, I read the first part of the adapted audio-drama, and then switched to the comic for the second part so I could experience the art. As far as I could gather, the audio drama is just word-for-word, action-for-action. But without the gorgeous art. (Cover by George Pérez)

The plot is convoluted, but so are most Crises, so I can’t really dock it much for that. But the characters… God, the characters are done so, so poorly.

For some reason, golden-age Superman of Earth 2 is willing to destroy a whole world just to bring back his? He excuses it by saying that Earth 1 will have never existed, but that’s a piss poor excuse when he’s actively watching hundreds of thousands of people die. I love pre-Crisis Superman, and this is not him.

Also, what’s the deal with Superboy Prime? Is he the Superboy from the original (prime) Earth? Or is he just… a random Superboy? They never actually explain it, or they do it so incredibly badly. If he is the original Clark Kent, this is a god-awful representation. I don’t know much about golden- or silver-age Superboy, but I don’t believe he was a murderer. He might have been mischievous (as boys his age tend to be), but not psychotic. If he is just a random Superboy from another world, I’m fine with him being evil, but he’s still such a lame villain. His motivations (“I wanna be the best Superman!”) are so weak it’s laughable.

Also, Wonder Woman is extremely underutilized. I have read way too many comics this year (Dark Knights of Steel and New Frontier, most notably) where Wonder Woman has one of, if not the most, interesting character story and by all rights should be the main character, but somehow isn’t. This is no different. She’s literally the catalyst for the Crisis, and she gets so little page time. I’ve always found her warrior nature fascinating, and her being the only one in the justice league to kill someone actually makes sense to me — she knew it was the only way, she knew people would die if she didn’t, and she grew up with a warrior mindset. It makes sense! But it also makes sense that she would have misgivings about it and have to do some soul-searching. Not to mention all the tension it would cause between the members of the League (which we got to see oh so very little of). There’s so much depth, so much to explore! If she was the central character, and her story was written well, this would have been a much, much different book.

The whole cast is also just so bloated. No character had any room to shine because there were so many, and the book felt almost directionless because of that. When you have a convoluted, complex plot and zero characters to latch onto, the story just feels so vapid. Crisis on Infinite Earths has a sort of similar issue, from what I understand, but I wouldn’t really know. Instead of reading the comic, I opted to read Marv Wolfman’s novel adaptation, which focused on one character’s journey (Barry) through all of the Crisis events. There were significant side characters that were developed, but only with the context of Barry as the main character. And it worked so damn well. So, comparatively, Infinite Crisis lacks any synergy of character and plot.

And lastly, this is somewhat minor, but I hate that Blüdhaven was destroyed. If you peek my profile, you’ll see that I’m reading and reviewing all of Nightwing’s books, and Infinite Crisis came at a critical point in Nightwing’s character development which was just completely derailed by Infinite Crisis. And for what? To show how chaotic everything is? To show that the world is ending? They EASILY could have destroyed any random city. It’s just dumb.

So, I’d like to know everyone’s thoughts. I don’t know the conversations around this book, so I have no idea if this is the general consensus or if I’m being absolutely bonkers. Please be kind in the comments!

Discussion The batman complex

I feel like this needs to be addressed. The prep time argument and opinion that Batman can beat anyone is ridiculous..

The issue I have with Batman is that all of his best feats are pure plotarmor. The thing that's supposed to make Batman "cool" is that he's supposed to be a human with normal human limitations who still manages to hang with top-tier heroes and villains. But then you look at his best feats and they're all things that are, by a very wide margin, completely beyond the realm of possibility for a normal human to perform. He lifts far more than the strongest men in the world who are roided to the gills. Somehow, even though he's weighted down with all his gear and literally wearing a parachute (his cape), he's able to run 2-3× faster than the fastest olympic sprinters who got their times wearing little more than running shoes and booty-shorts.

His feats are CLEARLY at metahuman level, but they refuse to call him metahuman because that contradicts the premise of his character ... and this is why it's a cheat because his feats are also a contradiction to the premise of his character!
If you take Batman as he is written up and supposed to be and only count his non-plot-armor feats, he's a pretty good street-level hero with a lot of money and a high IQ who wouldn't stand a chance in hell of beating any meta human, demigod or cosmic entity for that matter any day of the week.

This is my favorite future Superman.

A still hopeful Superman having gotten powerful enough to split into multiple incarnations and hold back the end of the universe so that all other living beings can pass away in their due time.

I'm only asking because I'm worried about this type of hand-drawn fanart wrongfully supporting the idea of bullying!
