Afer DMC announced a collaboration featuring Harry Potter (HP) intellectual property (IP), we've seen a lot of discussion about the partnership, with some people calling for a complete ban on anything DMC or HP related.
On the mod team, we're here to ensure that all the posts and comments of our sub adhere to our and Reddit's rules. We've long allowed political cross stitch posts as long as they adhere to Reddit ToS, locking the threads once the focus of the conversation turns disruptive (and, because we're all volunteers, sometimes we will proactively lock a thread if there's no one available to monitor it). We understand that different people learn different things at different times (Relevant XKCD - https://www.explainxkcd.com/wiki/index.php/1053:_Ten_Thousand). We also try to remember Hanlon's Razor (Never attribute to malice that which can adequately be explained by stupidity). We try to education with kindness whenever possible. But, we also want to be very straightforward with this education and much more transparent about it, while still focusing on and supporting the cross stitch itself.
We're not going to outright ban HP cross stitch. We will be adding a series of restrictions that focus on the opportunity to educate with kindness.
- Any WIP, CHAT, or PIC post featuring HP IP will be removed (including other items in the images, not just the stitching)
- We'll allow an FO post. Absent any other indication to the contrary, we will assume the stitcher was unaware of the controversy surrounding the HP IP, and inform them
- We'll lock the [FO] post, and all comments will be removed except for the required close-up of the stitching
- We'll leave a moderator comment with further information about this policy
Some of these steps are already in place (locking HP posts). Some will be finalized over the next few days as we get a chance to make all of the settings changes needed to fully flesh out the implementation.

I just saw this and thought it looked hilarious, I guess this is what AI imagines cross-stitch is.
Hope it gives someone a giggle 🤭

I took this out of storage where it’s been for a few years to potentially frame it and this is what I find. Gridded in washable fabric marker and the lines have bleached over time. No sun exposure or anything. It was in a stack of other projects in a dry tote in a closet.
Luckily this was a one off when I found myself having run out of the Sulky I usually use to grid and stupidly went with the clover water erasable fabric marker I usually use to mark the center of projects (if stitched over) and the short side of the fabric so I don’t stitch in the wrong orientation. Bad choice apparently. At least it wasn’t pencil?
Current plan is to search my floss for a blue that works with the other background colors and fill in the exposed areas. Then look for a mat that overlaps the edges a bit.
Still pretty annoyed though.

I bought this lovely bookmark kit in Paris on a recent trip. The pattern is very carefully designed to be exactly 27 stitches across. My aida is exactly 28 squares from border to border, meaning that I’ll have an awkward 1 empty square on one side of the pattern. Should I just go with it? Or try to modify the pattern to take up 1 extra space? Sub in regular aida to avoid the extra space? Put it aside forever in sadness that my pretty souvenir is defective? What would you do?
And yes I did try stitching to double check that my counting was correct, and there is indeed more space on one side of the stitches than the other.
(Edited to correct the numbers)

I've been working on this project for a friend all year and I can feel myself wanting to start a new project. A palette cleanser, if you will.
But I know if I do that.. There's a good chance this will get abandoned (ADHD represent!)
How do you y'all stay on task?

18ct stitched with 2 strands.
"Biggest" project to date. This is a gift for my sisters boyfriend who likes to fish largemouth bass. I omitted the stripes from the original pattern.

I ended up getting really rushed at the end and had to disregard how the stitches looked to get it done on time. Looking at it now, I want to see which side you guys think looks better. Obviously the right suffered due to low coverage compared to the left, but which side do the stitches themselves look better on?

Slight variation- I swapped good ol' dmc 310 for 645. Pattern by ThreadingOurJourney. There's cat hair everywhere lol, so added the cat tax.

The pattern is (90%) by Lindsay Swearingen. I didn’t love the original text so I changed that part to be a little more goth-y!
The mat isn’t perfect so I’ll probably go in and fill the little bit at the bottom.

Firstly, I love this group. I am an avid cross stitcher, fluctuating between stamped and non-stamped kits. I also have started to do several non-kit patterns that I've really enjoyed. I'll share more later, but I wanted feedback on the above kit I recently completed. I am aware the design is desperately in need of backstitching, but the design did not include any diagram for backstitching. What would you all do? I want to dive the guy a distinctive face. I also want to make the bottles and umbrella pop a bit. I have a full compliment of DMC threads and plenty of left-over thread from the project itself.
You all are awesome.

Hey everyone! I'm finally back after being sick for two weeks, and I've got a major update on my snow leopard project! 🐆We have officially hit the 10,000 stitches mark and crossed 20% of the entire project! It feels so great to be back at it. In this timelapse, you can see his fluffy ear and the beautiful spot patterns on his forehead coming together. How do you think he's turning out now that the upper part is visible? 💬❤️Pattern details: Custom pattern by Ukrainian designer Alexander Stitch, based on my daughter's drawing. 18 count Aida.

Working on this SK pattern by the witchy stitcher for a gift for my mum. Im really enjoying this one, completing each room is just soo 👌.
Its got some backstitching on it, which i actually havent done before. Do people tend to do it as they go or once they have finished?
Thanks

Hello! I am a knitter, not a cross stitcher. So, I am over my head. I have a dear friend who was in a horrific accident with partial amputation of her non-dominant arm. She kept her arm, but barring a miracle, she will not regain most function. She just had (hopefully) her last surgery. She loves cross stitching so much, and I am wondering what kinds of tools and helps I can find for her to help her continue her craft.
Links (and prayers) are welcome. We are in the US.
Thank you ❤️❤️❤️

Finally framed my 'Summer Scoops'! I 3D printed the frame (found on the Bamboo Handy app) as I thought it would be the perfect fit! Ran out of light blue PLA near the end so finished with white which I think doesn't look too bad 🫠. Glad to finally have this framed and complete after finishing it a while ago! 🍨🍦

I cross-stictched her initial as a simple gift, she likes pink shades.

Hi all! I just finished this pattern and getting it framed for a friend. Should I keep the glass in or leave it out? Im not sure if it makes a huge difference tbh I’m just curious how you guys would do it.

I never have pictures of my WIP when others post to share, so I decided with August completed tonight that I would finally post pictures. This year, I’ve been working on this while completing the final year of my doctoral program. This cross stitch has been my joy and relaxation between working, course work, and dissertation work/defense. I’m ready for graduation in December so I have more time to stitch! Share your WIP and story! (Vivienne Powers pattern of Rainbow Temperature Sampler)

I adore Mirabilia and BF designs and i want to do all of them - but just wondering if there were any designers similar who have patterns of male figures?

I'm doing the "Cheep Entertainment" kit by Dimensions/Creative Accents ftom 1998. It came with 18ct but that's too small for me, so I'm doing it on 14ct. The background is half stitches and I'm hoping after I so all the back stitching it'll look better. And if I need to I can go back and add a thread or two to fill in the blankness.

I’m relatively new to cross stitch and self taught, so I’m hoping for some wisdom. I’ve been working on this piece and I’m seeing the Aida peak through the stitching more often than I’d like. Am I not untwisting my thread often enough? Is it the tension? Is there something else I’m doing or not doing? Or am I just being too much of a perfectionist?
