This is not actually my first attempt. I tried to start with DMC's Starry Night but found it to be a bit difficult for me. So I got this beautiful freebie by FlossyFoxShop and used it to learn instead. I learned about the pin stitch and other fun ways to manage confetti stitches, and the importance of thread control and keeping a tidy back (although that is still a work in progress). I now feel much more comfortable and ready to tackle a slightly harder project. This a lovely community and I'm happy to finally be part of it!
edit: grammar

This is only my third mostly done cross stitch so I thought I'd consult some people with far more experience.
I'm having trouble with just how light the underbelly is (DMC 3865) and how to make it stand out from the aida.
It's a very small piece so I'm not opposed to doing a background fill but I have no clue what colour would work here.
I am also willing to frog the whole section if anyone has a better suggestion for an off white that has a little more contrast with a standard cream aida?
(pattern is 'Australian Birds Series' by [make it]) ((with my own free handed golden wattle added))

Hi all! I just finished this pattern and getting it framed for a friend. Should I keep the glass in or leave it out? Im not sure if it makes a huge difference tbh I’m just curious how you guys would do it.

Came across this idea on YouTube recently, now I can go fast with that 2 handed technique I've been seeing! I just have to get my left hand coordination up. Self-draft of an eastern cottonwood branch.

Still needs ironing, but I figure I'll do that when I finish all of them 😊

I never have pictures of my WIP when others post to share, so I decided with August completed tonight that I would finally post pictures. This year, I’ve been working on this while completing the final year of my doctoral program. This cross stitch has been my joy and relaxation between working, course work, and dissertation work/defense. I’m ready for graduation in December so I have more time to stitch! Share your WIP and story! (Vivienne Powers pattern of Rainbow Temperature Sampler)

18ct stitched with 2 strands.
"Biggest" project to date. This is a gift for my sisters boyfriend who likes to fish largemouth bass. I omitted the stripes from the original pattern.

I ended up getting really rushed at the end and had to disregard how the stitches looked to get it done on time. Looking at it now, I want to see which side you guys think looks better. Obviously the right suffered due to low coverage compared to the left, but which side do the stitches themselves look better on?

I just saw this and thought it looked hilarious, I guess this is what AI imagines cross-stitch is.
Hope it gives someone a giggle 🤭

I took this out of storage where it’s been for a few years to potentially frame it and this is what I find. Gridded in washable fabric marker and the lines have bleached over time. No sun exposure or anything. It was in a stack of other projects in a dry tote in a closet.
Luckily this was a one off when I found myself having run out of the Sulky I usually use to grid and stupidly went with the clover water erasable fabric marker I usually use to mark the center of projects (if stitched over) and the short side of the fabric so I don’t stitch in the wrong orientation. Bad choice apparently. At least it wasn’t pencil?
Current plan is to search my floss for a blue that works with the other background colors and fill in the exposed areas. Then look for a mat that overlaps the edges a bit.
Still pretty annoyed though.

So i bought this really cute black cat cross stitch kit, but the color chart/instructions are kinda confusing. For the below symbol I should only use 1+1 threads with the color codes, but it points to 3 different colors in the organizer (39-40 and 11). How would you interpret this? What am i missing?

I'm getting ready to do a piece that takes 55 colors. I've already decided I'm going to use an organizer with holes punched out, then braid them in groups to keep them from getting tangled, but what can I do with the working thread? I can't put it back with the braided pieces. And I've tried parking and I can't keep up with where or what color I'm using. It's there something out there that I don't know about to keep the cut pieces to use again?

The pattern is (90%) by Lindsay Swearingen. I didn’t love the original text so I changed that part to be a little more goth-y!
The mat isn’t perfect so I’ll probably go in and fill the little bit at the bottom.

PSA: Outside Europe, Coats still owns Anchor. Anchor India floss can be purchased on US eBay, Etsy, and some colors and packs on Amazon. I’m sure there are other options for purchase as well, but I haven’t explored them. The labels are different from the European Anchor labels, making the two separate brands distinguishable. The color are palates are slightly different, with many overlapping shades/numbers, but also a few that don’t exist in the other line.

Slight variation- I swapped good ol' dmc 310 for 645. Pattern by ThreadingOurJourney. There's cat hair everywhere lol, so added the cat tax.

Finally framed my 'Summer Scoops'! I 3D printed the frame (found on the Bamboo Handy app) as I thought it would be the perfect fit! Ran out of light blue PLA near the end so finished with white which I think doesn't look too bad 🫠. Glad to finally have this framed and complete after finishing it a while ago! 🍨🍦

I need help! Unsure whether to fill in the background or outline via backstitching. I tried to contrast the white aida cloth by using an off-white colored thread in the flowers, but it looks dull and flat.
What would you do? Fill the background in with a color? Outline everything in black? Only outline some flowers and leaves? Open to all possibilities, no matter how unhinged!

Thanks, friends! I really appreciate having your eyes on this. It’s for my mom.
Note: I removed the chart attachment in order for this to get posted. Sorry mods!

I’m really interested in doing a project similar to the big Pokémon patterns that are popular, but since I’m not interested in Pokémon specifically, I’m searching for similar patterns that are about that size! I like that there are so many little objects and it’s not just one big picture (like the Rivendell pattern, for example).
Aside from that, I’d also love to know if anyone knows where I could buy (bigger) kits (with printed canvas and thread) in the EU (specifically Germany)!
Thank you so much!!

Afer DMC announced a collaboration featuring Harry Potter (HP) intellectual property (IP), we've seen a lot of discussion about the partnership, with some people calling for a complete ban on anything DMC or HP related.
On the mod team, we're here to ensure that all the posts and comments of our sub adhere to our and Reddit's rules. We've long allowed political cross stitch posts as long as they adhere to Reddit ToS, locking the threads once the focus of the conversation turns disruptive (and, because we're all volunteers, sometimes we will proactively lock a thread if there's no one available to monitor it). We understand that different people learn different things at different times (Relevant XKCD - https://www.explainxkcd.com/wiki/index.php/1053:_Ten_Thousand). We also try to remember Hanlon's Razor (Never attribute to malice that which can adequately be explained by stupidity). We try to education with kindness whenever possible. But, we also want to be very straightforward with this education and much more transparent about it, while still focusing on and supporting the cross stitch itself.
We're not going to outright ban HP cross stitch. We will be adding a series of restrictions that focus on the opportunity to educate with kindness.
- Any WIP, CHAT, or PIC post featuring HP IP will be removed (including other items in the images, not just the stitching)
- We'll allow an FO post. Absent any other indication to the contrary, we will assume the stitcher was unaware of the controversy surrounding the HP IP, and inform them
- We'll lock the [FO] post, and all comments will be removed except for the required close-up of the stitching
- We'll leave a moderator comment with further information about this policy
Some of these steps are already in place (locking HP posts). Some will be finalized over the next few days as we get a chance to make all of the settings changes needed to fully flesh out the implementation.

Hii I started cross stitching a while ago and only bought the minimum of materials for some free patterns to see if I’d like it and would stick with it. I absolutely love stitching and have abandoned hobbies around my teenage years (mental health be damned) and I’m so happy to come back to crafting i just don’t have the funds. This won’t change for months to come so saving up for more pricy stuff isn’t a real option, when I started I had more wiggle room and now can’t really find affordable shops since shipping internationally is out of control . If anyone has recommendations for online shops or stores (in Berlin, Germany) I’d appreciate it 🫶
Also links for things you use for your setup
I currently have none and would like to build a little clean setup. What are essentials you use? And what type of needles for what fabric? I use some random needles I found no idea what size they are and just sit on my bed but there is a SAL that I’d like to follow coming up and I’d like to put a organized setup together.
