I'm a beginner! slightly vulnerable post but i need advice on this project i’ve been working on for over two years !

i’m a fairly beginner crocheter and about two years ago a friend of mine was pregnant and her baby shower was coming up so I thought I’d make her a small (supposed to be about 22x35 in) blanket with a pattern i found. I figured this was well within my wheelhouse and started, but I’m pretty slow and life happens and I just didn’t have a lot of motivation to finish it, but I eventually got the main portion finished maybe in december of that year. by then baby was born but I figured I’d just finish and send it over. The issue was (is) I absolutely hate it. Because I took so long to make the main rectangle, my tension is all over the place and the edges are super wonky. It’s also a few inches smaller all over, more in some places than all over. I steamed the hell out of it, I tried adding a border to fix it and still hated it, it still looked wonky. I couldn’t bring myself to fully finish it and give it looking the way it did and instead of figuring it out then, it went into my closet for me to not think about. i had just started a new job around this time and it was out of sight out of mind. I have been getting the itch to crochet again but feel like I can’t bring myself to make anything else when this is sitting unfinished, so I took it out to try and fix it. I decided to take the border off and I think I cut some stitches on the edge of a portion so now there’s that to deal with too. I guess i’m wondering, should I cut my losses, frog it all, and redo it? Or are the cut edges and wonky-ness fixable? Should I frog just a portion of it?? I truly am at a loss after three days of looking at it.

Hi fellow crafters. I made this keychain for a friend but now that it’s done I’m not sure how I feel about it. Can people tell what it’s supposed to be?

I'm a beginner! Feedback on my first ever project? It’s a beanie and I’m not entirely sure if it’s good

So, this is my first project ever, it should be a beanie in the clasic style, half double crochet and slip stitches on the last 5 stitches.
What do you think’ I would appreciate any feedback as I’m pretty much a self learner

Looking for suggestions Tips for future slipper-socks bottoms or yarn please.

I made these slipper-socks last winter just for kicking around the house. I absolutely loved them! The issue is that I wore through the bottoms in a matter of weeks. I forget which yarn I used... It was from Michaels. I didn't sew on the suede bottoms as the pattern suggested. Would using suede bottoms be my only chance at having these last? Are there other yarns that are recommended for cozy slipper-socks that won't wear through so quickly? I'm open to any and all tips or suggestions. I used this pattern. Thank you!

Discussion How do I make the spiderman logo more obvious from afar?

Post image

So I finished this jacket last month and I wanna wear it for halloween. Now that I look at it, it might be a bit faint. It's quite obvious closer but I worry it will not show up from afar. Maybe part of it is lighting and what colour I wear underneath but is there something I can do to make it more obvious or is it obvious enough?

I'm a beginner! Trying to make a beanie but I keep missing stitches

Post image

I just started crocheting recently and I’m following a tutorial to make a beanie but it’s growing increasingly crooked. I thought I could ignore it but i think somehow I’m losing more and more stitches. I think I might have to start over. Does anyone have any tips for counting accurately or tips for beginner mistakes I can avoid the next go around.

How do I... Help figuring out how to make last row look like picture

1st pic: from purchased pattern. Creator: Ann Wannamaker.

2nd: Red with last row i'm trying to recreate

final is the written pattern for row.

so this is very particular, but I'm not loving the way the last row looks from the original pattern. I saw the red one on ravelry, and it's exactly how i want it to look. Not pointy, more neat looking i guess.. I've tried different things to try to figure it out but so far I'm doing DC instead of TC, i think the big difference is how she does the picot stitch? idk but if you do let me know :) much appreciated

I'm a beginner! Does anyone know how to make the life ring pls? Would it be hard to make for a beginner?

Hi, I saw this on Pinterest and want to make it, but the life ring looks a bit different. I think there's a ring shape object inside which they wrapped the yarn around, but then how do we add the crochet part?

How do I... Why is my edge not straight despite not dropping any stitches??

Post image

I’ve made so many things, yet every time I try to crochet in a straight line in a single or double stitch the edges don’t stay straight. I’m not dropping stitches and I try to hold a similar tension when crocheting. Is it a tension thing? Or am I doing something else wrong?

Edit: I think I dropped a stitch and didn’t realize. Thank you everyone for the advice! I will be looking into some of the alternatives to the Ch 2, turn, SC into next stitch method I’ve been using to get a nicer edge

Looking for suggestions Seeking advice on yarn and pattern for oral sensory wrist snake chew ND son can wear to school.

My ND son chews/sucks on his sleeve, collar, shirt while at school often resulting in shirt/hoodie changes. He has rejected "chewlery" and fabric necklaces, but I'm thinking if I make him a snake wrist band he'll likely take to it. It needs to be a fabric safe to chew on that won't leech dye or break down easily. It will also preferably not retain drool (sorry) or be rough in texture. I'm thinking acrylic or maybe yarn designed for baby blankets.

For design, I'm thinking a simple snake with a hole near the end of the tail for the head to loop through to secure and have the head dangle and be the part he chews. I can probably just make one up, but if someone knows of a good design, it would be appreciated.

Can't find a flair for this I am currently in Germany on vacation and was hoping I could find affordable yarn (yarn is expensive where I live). I am looking for advice on where I should look. I am near Frankfurt am Main and Heidelberg

I'm a beginner! How do I attach the hair piece? And can I use my hair straightener to flatten it?

Hello! I need some help attaching the hair piece to my doll, which is a completely separate piece that I've just pinned in place for now to set the shape/position. The pattern just says 'Attach to doll' so I assume I'd need to stitch this together using regular thread?

I would like to fix pieces of the hair in the positions that I've pinned them in the pictures, and then stitch the dragonfly hair clip on top. Do you have any tips on how to do this neatly?

Also the front individual hair pieces are kinda curled instead of straight - is this because I had uneven tension or something? And can I just use my hair straightener to fix it? The yarn is 100% cotton (mercerized) for reference.

Thanks!!

Wearable help How would I make the upper wing longer but not wider?

Thumbnail

So I made this and I'm currently done with the upper wing however this is a top and it doesn't cover the parts it should but the height is correct so basically the wing would need to be longer. I'm thinking on adding a few rows where I put the arrow in the second photo in the same way as the rows before but that would make it wider so I'm just asking if someone knows a better way?

How do I... How do I attach these two pieces vertically together?

I’m making the beanie from the resident evil movie, however I realized too late that the thing I was working on was slightly too small. I made another pattern to attach it and I was wondering what the best way is to attach them. While I want it to not be too visible, I’d prefer strength over looks. Most tutorials I’ve seen are for attaching it on the top where you are crocheting, so I’m not sure if there’s a technique specifically for my situation.

Looking for suggestions Looking to make a hexagon cardigan with less/ smaller 'holes'

Hi all! I want to make a new hexi cardigan. I have made a few and I love the repetive simple process, I just can't seem to wear them myself because I can't stand the bigger holes that appear when making it with granny stitch. (The wind gets through and I don't feel warm)

Does anyone know how to make it with a less 'holey' stitch? I will use a bulkier, fluffy yarn this time around too.

Pictures of succesful projects like these are also very much appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Looking for suggestions will blocking save my curling filet crochet WIP? i've already done so much work... :(

Post image

i've been working on my first filet crochet piece for a few days now, using cotton size 10 crochet thread. already put hours of work into it. i know i tend to have a problem with my foundation chain tension so i tried to make it extra loose so i wouldn't encounter this problem.... but it happened anyway :( i thought that maybe if i kept going it would naturally straighten itself out, but its still curling slightly and its even more noticeable while i'm working on it. would blocking it help solve this problem? i've spent 14+ hours on it so i really dont want to frog the whole thing :(

• Fingering / Sport Weight
• DK / Light Worsted
•Worsted / Aran Weight

That's how the finish product should look like

How do I... I made this mandala vest dress but the pattern seems to not do amazing for very skinny people so it has this bagging at the back and sticky out arms. Does nayone know how to fix it without frogging?

I followed the pattern exact to the youtube but i guess because I had to decrease some of the extra rows as I'm quote skinny, it ended up making the arm holes baggy and still leaving too much broadness in the back. Please help me fix it without frogging!

Looking for suggestions What stitch is best for a simple beanie? HDC or DC (US terms) or something else?

I’m trying to recreate u/cats_n_things awesome halloween costume from last year but I’ve never crocheted a wearable before, only amigurumi. I’ve looked up a few YouTube tutorials and have seen both HDC and DC patterns. Which do you recommend / prefer for a beanie? I’ll be working with Big Twist Posh Chic 100% polyester yarn (in the color kelp!) and a 6mm hook.

How do I... How to Fold a Blanket While Working On It? Looking for help..

I have a blanket that's a few feet long now. I love it. It's not easy to work on when I'm not home, because I don't want to be wearing a blanket. I found a way to fold it up like a cornucopia and rotate it to keep crocheting on it. But it doesn't hold that shape for long. Is there a way to go about this? Any tips?

Understanding a pattern First stuffie pattern (moose). I am having a hard time understanding this crochet pattern. No matter how many times I read the pattern, I can’t make it make sense.

I am in desperate need of help with this pattern. This is my first stuffie, but not my first pattern. I specifically need help with the part in red. I am connecting part one and two of the antler together but what i am doing is not lining up. I single crocheted the pieces together and then did 6 single crochets in part one. Then I connected the pieces together again at the stitch marker. after that i single crocheted around part 2 10 times and did not end up at the stitch marker. and i have no idea what it means by (you should have 4 sc on each side, in the middle that you skipped)

Blocking Don't have the tools for blocking a throw blanket with uneven width, will machine washing do the trick?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I just finished weaving in the ends on a throw blanket I've been working on for a while and I've now realized that the first ~2/3 of the blanket aren't as wide as the end of it. I haven't done a project that I've needed to block before so I'm not even sure that blocking could fix the issue but I also don't want to spend ~$60 on enough foam boards to fit the thing, especially since I doubt I'm going to make something else this large. It's made from acrylic yarn and I've heard some people say that you can forego blocking in favor of machine washing with acrylic but I'm curious if it'll fix the issue with the width.

Difference in the width shown in the picture.

How do I... Uneven tension, switching colors, and other tapestry tips

Thumbnail

Fooled around with a tapestry for the first time and I would like some feedback. I’m guessing my issue with uneven borders is tension in each row switching up.

I took a few weeks off from working on this a couple times so idk if there’s a better way to get back into it somehow and still maintain even tension.

I’m also wondering how I can better hide the color I’ve crocheted over within the tapestry as well as when I change rows.

Maybe my hook size is wrong and that’s another reason why it looks wonky but I think the stitches still look alright. I just want to know what others have to say so next time I can successfully work on a pattern I actually like.
