more info: I have ADHD and carpal tunnel, but have made 2 pairs of socks from the same pattern and love them, not sure if I am making a bad choice here though.

Looking for suggestions suggestions on how to stitch pieces of a blanket together

Post image
0 Upvotes

hello everyone!

my grandma recently passed very unexpectedly. she made it a goal for herself to crochet a blanket for each of her grandkids, starting with my sister (the eldest). unfortunately she was unable to finish it 💔 but it is nearly done. i included a photo for visuals, i have 3 pieces of 2x6 squares in various purples and one piece of 1x6 squares that are crocheted together with black yarn. i have a beautiful variegated purple yarn that would be perfect for joining the pieces, and im looking for a way to stitch the pieces together that would show off the yarn, so not an invisible join.

any suggestions? as of now im thinking flat slip stitch but if theres a stitch that is wider tell me!! im only a year old crocheter.

i hope i explained this well enough. thank you.

Edit to add: also open to suggestions for a cute border!!

Understanding a pattern Not sure if pattern is missing part of the instructions or I am reading it wrong.

I found a free pattern for a scarf on pinterest with a link to the instructions. I am halfway through and realizing my first read through notes don't make much sense. So I go back to the pattern and it still doesn't make sense. Worried a bit it might be ai.

In step 5 starting row 14, I am instructed to turn my work to begin the hooded portion of the pattern.

1st it feels this set of rows should be shorter based on the pictures.

2nd if it is supposed to go back and forth with turning the full length, why not just continue in the round instead of sewing the hood closed.

I can share a link to the pattern if that helps, not sure if it's allowed though.

Gift help What type of adhesive works best to glue rose flowers onto wood? I’m making wooden crosses with roses on them!

I’ve used hot glue on my prototype one and it is holding up well but I’m wondering if there is something better because I plan on gifting them. So what would you recommend? Or is the hot glue good?

Deciding on yarn/Yarn help How do I remove dirt stains from white acrylic yarn?

I went to a concert wearing an outfit I had made and I got knocked down in the dirt pretty hard so it ended up staining. This happened in July and I just now tried to wash it since I was scared of it ripping apart in the washer so the stain had plenty of time to set. I used sparkly white Red Heart acrylic yarn.

Gift help Looking for Advice - Handmade Crochet Hook Holder - Making A Box For My Aunt

Hi everyone! I don’t know anything about crochet, but my aunt loves it. I’m making her a Christmas present this year and want to make her a crochet needle case/holder/box.

I’m fairly accomplished at fine carpentry and have a good shop, I just need to understand what’s useful.

If someone were making you a wooden case for your various crochet sundries, what would you appreciate for size/shape/features?

Understanding a pattern DESPERATELY need help with this pattern please! Row 7 of the body is confusing me - start with 30sc, 3decs throughout the row, but should end up with 32sc?

Post image

I'm not sure if this pattern has been translated? But Row 7 of the body is just not making sense to me...When I crochet 5sc of the legs through the body, I don't have enough sc in the row, but the legs are 7sc around so just crocheting 5sc around legs stitches on the legs unworked. I'm just very confused!

I've messaged the designer but I've got no reply. Can anyone please help me make sense of it?

Wearable help How do I prevent hats from looking boob like? I usually just throw a pompom but don’t always want to.

EDIT: SOLVED. Just needed to add double the stitches for using dc stitches.

More dc in the first round? I’m following the usual 6 dc, incx6 (12), then each row adding an extra single dcc inbetween increases. Isnt that pretty standard? Any help appreciated as I can save it at this point (edit stitches)

Problem with edges Did I mess up the edges on the right side of my work? I want to make a beanie and I am using a wool/acrylic wool mix.

I redid this twice already and I'm starting to get angry and frustrated. It just looks wrong and too big and too short the same time... I think I may have forgotten stitches in the last three rows at the edge? Can someone please confirm or help me ? I even used stitch markers... Trying not to drop out of crocheting again due to insane frustration

Understanding a pattern Need help deciphering pattern - did I get scammed on Etsy?

I purchased this pattern on Etsy, but am having trouble reading it. Hopefully someone here can help explain it and I didn't get scammed with an AI pattern.

  1. The head and body row 1 both start with chains, but then have additional stitches - do I stitch back into the chain and around the other side? Or treat it like a magic ring and stitch all into the 2nd from the hook?

  2. I can't figure out how the front legs are attached, there are no other photos or instructions to reference. In the listing photos it looks like the front legs are crocheted straight into the body, not sewing on.

Looking for suggestions The seam of my sweater keeps unraveling under the arm.

I don’t know what’s going on with it. I’ve restitched the panels together more than once but it keeps happening. It’s just the yarn used to create the seam that I’m having trouble with. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Help to find a pattern Unusual crochet stitch - does anyone recognise the technique here?

Hi All. I hope I can ask this as I used up all my brain and tries. Please can anyone advise on the stitch used here? I recognise dc here and there but not enough to make sense of the stitch pattern. Frankly I can’t justify buying the pattern for a stitch only. Hope I can get some guidance.

Understanding a pattern help me understand the rule of increasing by 6 when sc

hi, so as the title says, I'm trying to freehand this witch hat using this "rule", so for the first 7 or so rows it worked perfectly and the brim lays flat. however. the next few rows start to curl, i went back to check if i made any mistakes and re-did them carefully. increasing by 6 ends up curling it. can you help me understand why it's happening and how to prevent it?

I'm a beginner! What are your top tips for a total crochet beginner?

Hi all, I am wanting to get into crocheting as a hobby, but I have NO EXPERIENCE at all with the craft. Do you guys have any advice? Type of yarn or tools I should have (I'm in Aus for context)? Tutorials I can follow? Stitches I should learn? Thank you!

I'm a beginner! Splitting Milk Yarn while crocheting Peonies using 2.5mm hook

Hello! I have been crocheting for years but am probably what you would call a beginner still.
I am crocheting peonies. The pattern calls for 2.5mm hook, 4ply milk yarn. First, it is incredibly hard to crochet into teeny tiny stitches especially finding FLO or BLO, secondly, my yarn keeps splitting! Help I am ready to give up on this project! So frustrating! Any advice as to why the yarn keeps splitting and why it is so hard to find the loops.

Joins/Joining When using the mattress stitch to join Granny squares, is there a way to calculate how much yarn you need for each row?

I am making a baby blanket that is going to be made up of 6 - 6in squares by 7 - 6 in squares. I am close to finishing all of the squares and I have practiced various methods of joining. I want to use a mattress stitch for an invisible join. I realized that the one disadvantage to this method is that I have to cut a length of yarn before sewing them together. I don't want to run out of thread part of the way through a row. Is there a way to calculate how much yarn I need to avoid running out?

Discussion Is the pencil grip more ergonomic than the knife grip?

I use the knife grip and I notice some stiffness in my hand, wrist and elbow after an hour or so

I also notice pain in the hand that's holding the working yarn + pinching the project for support too

Would the pencil grip be better in terms of wrist and elbow pain? Someone told me that only your fingers move with a pencil grip

How do I... I need some help with these granny square instructions

Post image
1 Upvotes

I'm making this Granny square and it's too early to give up. I'm on 2nd round. The first round is a magical circle, 4dc ch5- 4 times. The instructions for round 2 said to join onto a dc with a fpsc, then "7sc on the ch5 space, fpsc around the next st, repeat 4 times."

That bold part: "st" isn't saying to fpsc around a single dc right? I'm supposed to fpsc around the whole cluster? It would be the first white ring from the center.

Understanding a pattern What am I don’t wrong? My MIL purchased this pattern for me to make her and I’m struggling.

My MIL found this pattern and really wants me to make it for her for Christmas. For some reason I’m struggling making the first part which is the brim. I have frogged this 3 times. My product never looks like the pictures in the pattern 😭

The pattern says front loop only, right? But I feel like the outcome on the pattern looks to be BLO? Or am I understanding the two stitches wrong?

Once I have the brim correct I’m still stumped on where I start joining the round? Even with the picture and the circles around where I make the stitch I still don’t understand. Is that because I’m making the brim wrong?

Thank you so much in advance!

P.S. I will feel so dumb if this is AI and I’m not catching that. I’m confused because the intro of the pattern says they “knit” this. But this is a crochet pattern, right?! 🙃

https://imgur.com/a/JgQrjJy

Edit: you guys are amazing. Thank you so much for helping me out. I’ve been doing front LOOPS and not front bars this whole time. So my finished product is not the same brim. Stay tuned, I’m going to do the RIGHT stitches and so if I can figure out how to join the round. I might need your help again lol
