How do you keep your guest beds when nobody is using them? I’m new to having a guest room. When I was a kid, I remember crawling into the bed at my grandmother’s house and seeing all of the dust fly into the air. Don’t keep sheets or blankets on the mattress? Cover the whole thing with a giant sheet? How are you keeping them clean?

Deep cleaned yesterday. Came home after being gone for eight hour today and it smells like cavities. Investigated the fridge, trash, laundry, under the bed, bathroom, all smelled normal. But the whole place has a pungent essence of a cavity. I am scared. No apparent evidence of what it could be. Never smelled it before.

I just got my apartment this year after living in my car for a while. This is my first apartment. I have a one bedroom apartment where it’s just me and my cat.
But I still don’t know where to start or how to start.
How do you keep up with everything involving cleaning and know how and how often to clean everything? I feel like my apartment is never clean and I feel like it’s turning into the house I grew up in but I genuinely feel lost. Every time I try to clean, I feel like I spend more time just standing and staring because I feel so overwhelmed.
I still don’t have any decoration in my apartment because I am so scared of hoarding stuff yet it’s starting to look like it because I can’t figure out the cleaning part.
Edit: Thank you so much for all the kind words and resources. Y’all are amazing.

A mat underneath a litter box did this to the floor. It’s not real wood. Is there a solution you recommend to get it out? Last resort is try to redo this part of the floor (rental).

I used to mop maybe once or twice a week and honestly thought the floors were already pretty clean. It wasn’t until I got a robot vacuum and started having it mop every day that I noticed a difference. The dirty water was noticeably darker the first few days, but after about a week it started coming back a lot cleaner. The floors also feel different under bare feet now. Apparently my clean floors weren’t as clean as I thought lol.
How often do you guys actually mop? Do you think daily mopping is worth it, or is that overkill?

The cat did a poo on our new, very expensive wool carpet. I panicked and cleaned it with water, which left some brown stains so I used the stain remover, thinking it would be fine because it has no bleach in it. I then used quite a bit of water to get all the product out after letting it sit for 5 minutes. This is the result 3 days later.
I have a dreadful feeling that the only real option will be to replace a huge area of carpet, maybe half of the room, so that the replacement isn't obvious. A patch replacement would be really very obvious unfortunately.
What are my options?
Please no shaming, I know how dumb this was but I panicked. I feel guilty enough already.

Sometimes cleaning a small stain on a fabric sofa leaves behind a bigger water ring once it dries. This happens even when the original stain was barely noticeable.
What's the best way to prevent those rings without cleaning the entire sofa?

I accidentally got a huge turmeric stain on my white marble countertop. Was freaking out at first bc it was not budging but then followed a tip I found on YouTube.
I mixed Oxiclean with water and let it sit in the stain for a few hours. Sooner than later it was completely gone!!! I followed this YT video: https://youtu.be/uQjbiFXDZEM?si=fqq0S7Y1oDRf7BoN

Keep cleaning the carpet still brown water coming! I got my bedroom carpet cleaned by a profession mobile van wet vacuum cleaner. My carpet wasn’t dirty at all and I have a small wet vacuum it always sucks clean once I have cleaned it! However after pro cleaning there were brown spots and I poured gallons of water and sucking it all brown water!
I called the guy he came said possibly water line was mixed with dirty water, he cleaned again. However at night time the brown residue surfaced! I rented a wet vacuum cleaned for 4 hours, and now the brown water is still there and the carpet is not clean! My carpet was never this dirty it was always returning clean water after I had cleaned it..
What could be the issue…?

I'm not great at sticking to big cleaning routines, so I'm looking for simple habits that actually work. Little things that take a minute or two but keep the mess from piling up. What do you do that makes a difference without feeling like you're cleaning all day?

I’m looking for cleaning schedules that actual families are using. How often do you do the different tasks?
I’ve tried setting up a couple of apps like Tody, but they don’t really give me the structure I’m after. One suggested that I vacuum the hallway every other week 😳 which I feel isn’t really enough (though I’m by no means a clean freak.
I’d love to make a weekly plan that we can put on the wall and not have to think about when it’s time to clean the bathroom or mop the floors.
(We’re a family of two full-time working parents, 2 kids 3-7 and a dog, but I’m looking for plans that suit every kind of household.)

As the title says, I've noticed that my laundry starts smelling really bad when it comes out of the dryer, but only loads that I forget about and let sit in the dryer. Obviously I know the fix is to just take them out of the dryer, but I wanted to know why this is happening. Its really weird and only started happening a few months ago.
I did a few experiments with it to try and find the cause. I let them sit in the dryer with both the door closed and open, both made them smell. If i take them out of the dryer and keep them in the laundry room, just outside the dryer, they don't smell. It has to sit inside the dryer to stink. It's baffling to me. I'm a curious person though, I want to know why it's happening even if all I gotta do to stop it is take the dang clothes out.
I use All free and clear detergent (I have to, I'm allergic to all non-gentle detergents) and Downy gentle fabric softener. The smell isn't like mildew, it's more like BO. Like my clothes never got washed in the first place. They have to sit in the dryer at least overnight to start stinking, a few hours is usually fine.

We’ve tried just about everything we can think of from bleach to windex (not together haha) to soap scum detergents and all purpose cleaners. Nothing seems to touch it no matter how long the cleaner soaks nor how heartily we scrub.
It’s a rental and the landlord is extremely unresponsive. The walls themselves aren’t obviously water logged based on how they sound along with the lack of overt water leakage elsewhere. We leave the bathroom fan on close to 24/7 to try to clear out as much moisture as possible, but to no avail.
Recommendations from you pros?

I've always used 1 damp microfiber cloth and 1 dry one to dust surfaces. Just curious what everyone else does.

I recently cleared out the drain and cleaned out the smell about 3 weeks ago but the stench is back. I have one of those drain stoppers that you have to unscrew from the bottom and its a pain to uninstall and reinstall so I try to clear out the drain every few months but I need something in the mean time to help combat the smell. I can't pour boiling hot water down my drain like the vinegar baking soda trick implies since my pipes burst last time I did that. Please just any tips that can help with the foul stench till the next time I clear it out. Thank you.

Is it normal for your bedroom fan to get THIS dusty every two days? 😩
I deep clean our house every Sunday and regularly change our HVAC filter, but the dust just keeps coming back! Our house is only 3 years old, and for reference, we have a Belgian Malinois and a King Shepherd. 🐾 we do have carpet in all the bedrooms & once we have more money in our budget we’re putting down hardwood.
My allergies have been absolutely INSANE lately, and I’m wondering if all the pet dander is contributing to it. Does anyone else with large, double-coated dogs deal with this?
Do air purifiers actually make a noticeable difference with dust, pet hair, and dander? If so, please share which brand or type you have and whether you feel like it’s worth the money! I’m desperate for some relief. 😭🙏🏻
