Did your friends bail on you for that dope new EDM, Gospel, folk fusion band and need to unload your extra tickets?

Did you salvage some ladders off the Don Holt and want to flip them for beer money?

Need someone to pressure wash your lawn?

This is the thread for you. Rule 2 (no craigslisty buy / sell / trade) and Rule 4 (no self-promo) will be very lightly enforced here.

Day 1 of early voting more than doubles previous midterm’s first day turnout in S.C.

I know it the second day of early-voting so we'll probably see how the participation is for today but really impressive Day 1 result. While the article cites the turnout for the last midterms, that was in 2022 when Early Voting first became available so that might not be as impressive as it may seem. However after looking over the data, it looks like the turnout is about less than 30,000 votes lower than on the first day and the average per day of 2024. The fact that it is that close to a presidential election is wild. People are showing up.

Let's keep it going. If you can go vote now or election, then go vote. Going to be interesting seeing how things go this election.

Day 1 Votes:

Charleston: 9,389

Berkeley: 4,469

Dorchester: 2,275

Looking for Witnesses – Hit-and-Run at Lewis Barbecue on Sunday, 10/18

Post image
34 Upvotes

Good afternoon! I hope this type of post is allowed here.

My son was at Lewis Barbecue on Sunday, 10/18, and someone hit his car in the parking lot and left without leaving any information.
The managers at Lewis have been great and offered to review their camera footage, and CPD has taken a report.
I’m posting here in hopes that someone may have been there that day and witnessed what happened or noticed anything that might help identify the vehicle or driver.
I’m sharing a picture of the damage. Unfortunately, this was more than a minor bump, and the damage is significant.
If you were there that day or have any information, please send me a message. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you.

Park Mobile

Just downloaded the ParkMobile app that our city council members are forcing us to use, and guess what, there is a payment fee for usage. So, now on top of the regular payment that you have, there is a small fee that goes to this company for the convenience.

What was wrong with the parking meters? Why are we paying a private company to manage this money?

This is just another instance of regular people being nickel and dimed at every turn. It’s obscene and we should make it be known!

Comment your opposition to the plan if you want on the next city council meeting

CCSD Board Elections - Could Use Some Help

I'm currently doing my homework on the CCSD board election candidates for filling out my sample ballot. Unfortunately it looks like only 4 candidates have Ballotpedia profiles. In addition to the stand-alone research I'll do, would really appreciate hearing color commentary from folks on the candidates. I am particularly interested in knowing who is endorsed by/is against Moms for Liberty, who has the support of educators and who may have particularly strong qualifications (whatever your view of that may be). Thanks in advance!

District 1: Keith Grybowski, Char Fitzwater, Mark Little

Distric 3: Joseph Bennett, Stuart Day, Bethany Nemitz, Tressa Pankovits.

District 5: Carlotte Bailey, Libby Tisdale

District 7: Leah Whatley, Francis Beylotte III, Joy Brown, Darryl Ray Griffin

District 9 Carol Tempel, Karen Luhrs

Used Furniture Recommendations?

Does anyone have anywhere they recommend looking for used furniture? I will be moving into my own apartment soon and was hoping to furnish second hand if possible. There are so many stores online, I am not sure where to start and what would be a waste of my time. Thank you!

Charleston How do businesses get Instagram collabs with local accounts?

• Upvotes

We hired a marketing agency that gets our posts shared as collabs with accounts like Holy City Sinner, Visit Charleston and other similar local accounts with great following.

The exposure is great but we’re not happy with their content and considering switching.

Does anyone know how to get these collabs on our own? Had it been just one big account I’d assume some type of paid partnership but there are a few.

Do you just send the collaboration invite like that?

Champions League

I’m looking for a spot to watch Champions League.

I know Edmunds Oast will have Arsenal, Two Blokes will have Liverpool, etc. but I’m not looking for a particular supporter bar so to speak. Is there anywhere I’ll be able to walk in and know they’ll have matches like PSG-Barca or Bayern-Atletico on?

Looking to become a boat mechanic

I recently moved back to Mount pleasant and my goal is to become a boat mechanic. I want to spend as long as it takes to learn how to fix engines and all parts of a boat. I also want to learn how to sail. It’s always been a dream of mine to own/live on my own boat but I think I should know what I’m doing first. I’m creating this post to see if anyone in the Charleston area would be willing to help me out or point me in the right direction. Id love to have get some on the job training but I’m willing to work for free or be an apprentice or whatever it takes. Let me know if you have any ideas of where I should start!

Annie Andrews Yard Sign Pickup/Purchase Locally?

Anyone have a place or contact to get a sign same-day?

Hoping to grab an Annie sign, but buying one says it can take up to 1.5 weeks to ship directly from their campaign.

I've tried AI and google and the only suggestions were to find events or email local groups, which I've tried and I've done, to no avail in the last 3 days.

Does Ballot Measure #2 (bond issuance) only pass if Ballot Measure #1 (infra tax) passes?

I am filling out a sample ballot now and the general ballot measures got me curious as Measure #2 (the $300M bond issuance) assumes the availability of the tax revenue that Measure #1 (the 0.5% infra sales tax) proposes. Does Measure #1 have to pass in order for Measure #2 to pass? Full text of the ballot questions are below. Thanks!

BALLOT Q 1: I approve a special sales and use tax in the amount of one-half (1/2) of one percent to be imposed in Charleston County for not more than twenty-five (25) years, or until a total of $4,250,000,000 in resulting revenue has been collected, whichever occurs first. The sales tax proceeds will be used to fund the following projects: Project (1) $2,702,000,000 For financing the costs of highways, roads, streets, bridges, and other transportation-related projects facilities, and drainage facilities related thereto, that include: Featured Projects: Rivers Avenue Railroad Overpass at Durant Avenue, Mall Drive (S -790) Improvements, Patriot Boulevard Widening, Better North Bridge Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvements, Battery Extension West / Calhoun Street -Medical District, Hagood Avenue Improvements, Maybank Highway Southern Pitchfork and Roundabouts, Glenn McConnell Parkway at Magwood Road, US 17 South Widening from Dobbin Road to SC-162, Johnnie Dodds Boulevard at Houston Northcutt Boulevard and Wingo Way Improvements, Long Point Road Resiliency and Safety Improvements . Intersection Projects: Stall Road at Midland Park Road and Ashley Phosphate Road, Ladson Road at Palmetto Commerce Parkway, Ashley Phosphate Road at Cross County Road and Brandywine Road, US 78 at Limehouse Lane, Savannah Highway at Ashley Town Center Drive, Maybank Highway at Riverland Drive, Main Road at Mary Ann Point Roundabout, SC-162 at Salters Hill Roundabout, SC-174 at SC-164 Roundabout, Steed Creek Road at US 17 North, SC-45 at US 17 North. Whipple Road at Mathis Ferry Road and Lucy Beckham High School. Pavement Management: Resurfacing paved roads throughout Charleston County based on condition, traffic volume, safety requirements, and age of infrastructure, Rural Road Safety Program, Roadway Elevation Resiliency Program including Seabrook Island Road Project. Bike / Pedestrian Improvements: Bike and Pedestrian infrastructure throughout Charleston County, including but not limited to, Countywide Bike Ped Plan, Rivers Avenue Lowcountry Rapid Transit Last Mile Connections, City of Charleston Safe Streets for All Plan, Rethink Folly Road Plan, Mount Pleasant Way Plan. Other Projects: 2016 Sales and Use Tax Carryover Projects (Dorchester Road Widening and Palmetto Commerce Parkway Phase 3), Traffic Signal Synchronization, Reynolds Avenue Improvements, Noise Wall at Palmetto Commerce Interchange Project, and other future needs for highways, roads, streets, bridges, and drainage facilities. All featured projects, intersection projects, pavement management projects, and all other projects shall consider the inclusion of bicycle, pedestrian, and public transit access in the design process, as contextually appropriate. If any project listed above cannot be accomplished, the amounts of Sales and Use Tax associated will be applied to any other project listed above Project (2) $858,000,000 For financing the operation and expansion of public transit systems operated by Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) or jointly operated by the County and other governmental entities and the implementation of the Downtown Route Study. Project (3) $690,000,000 For financing the costs of greenbelts with a 50% urban and 50% rural allocation of the revenues, including but not limited to, purchasing land for conservation, conservation easements, passive greenspaces, public parks, access points to waterways; and protecting natural resources, agricultural landscapes, heritage landscapes, scenic corridors and water resources

BALLOT Q 2: I approve the issuance of not exceeding $300,000,000 of general obligation bonds of Charleston County, payable from the special sales and use tax described in Question 1 above, maturing over a period not to exceed twenty-five (25) years, to fund completion of projects from among the categories described in Question 1 above.

Who is the most modern veterinarian in the area?

As in all things, there are different schools of thought on vet care. We are looking for a second opinion on a cardio issue for our dog, and specifically from someone who has a more modern mindset powered by modern data.

My instinct is to go to Patrick downtown, but im open to any suggestion for vets that are particularly good with cardio and spine.

Thanks!

Attorney needed

Looking for a SC-licensed attorney (business or contract law) for a small unpaid invoice dispute. I’m a small business owner and did subcontract work for another company under a written agreement. After the work ended, they confirmed in writing what was owed, then stopped paying and are now disputing it. The amount is under $5,000.

I’m hoping to find someone for a consultation, contract review, and possibly a flat-fee demand letter, with guidance on small claims if needed. I have all documentation organized and ready.

North Charleston Used Car Shopping

I am interested in people's experiences when shopping to purchase a used vehicle from one of the many options in North Charleston and the Tri-County. AutoMAXX, Dealerships, Small Car Lots. Who to avoid, actual good places??

I am going to be looking soon, and would like to know more about the area and car sales because I lived elsewhere last car I bought.

Rant FYSA - Funeral Traffic

A gentle reminder regarding funeral traffic:

If a funeral procession is accompanied by a law enforcement officer or escort vehicle using flashing emergency lights or sirens, motorists must yield the right-of-way just as they would for any emergency vehicle. You must also follow any direct commands given by a police officer managing traffic.

For example, this Sunday while we were all stuck on Hwy 61 waiting for a funeral procession to pass, you blowing your horn at us because traffic was backed up was a complete waste of your energy. We all can't move until the cops let us. We're all stuck buddy, so take your white pickup's horn and shove it up your ass.

Is this true about Charleston? Would you say the dating culture for single women is really bad here compared to other areas?

Post image
83 Upvotes

For reference I’m (25F) from up north in a college town and am setting up to move down to Charleston for work and to be closer to the beach. One of the big things I also care about is dating because finding a relationship from my hometown was pretty rough. I’ve asked before about the dating culture down there and got some pretty pessimistic answers. Do you guys think it is true and it is really rough down there? And if so what advice do you have for me if you can give it? I’d really appreciate any insight or help
