Discussion A guide to Castlevania supplementary materials and where to read them
Symphony of the Night:
Promotional manga.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20190412154140)
This is a two pages long advertisement drawn by Ayami Kojima and published in a magazine, it's a sneak peek of Alucard's character.
Available on: Castlevania Wiki
An eight pages long manga included in the Japanese artbook, it acts as a prologue for the main story and features Alucard suddenly awakening from his 300 years long slumber.
Available on: Mr. P's Castlevania Realm
A radio drama (this time you have to listen to it!) originally featured on the Akumajō Dracula: Radio Chronicle program that was broadcast on Konami Station internet radio, it was later released on CD in 2010. It's a story set one year after the events of the game, you will learn more about Alucard's relationship with Maria, his past and other characters (Richter is also part of the cast).
Available on: Youtube
Curse of Darkness:
A prequel manga written and illustrated by Kojima, it was featured as a pre-order bonus for the Japanese release of the game. It mainly focuses on Hector and Isaac prior to the events of the game, it also expands on their relationships.
Available on: Vampire Killer (an archive of scans and translations)
Published in two volumes by Media Factory from 2005 to 2006 and translated to English by Tokyopop in 2008. It's the same premise but it's longer, more expansive and this time the illustrator is Kō Sasakura, not Ayami Kojima. The series was eventually canceled but the manga stops directly where the game begins.
Available on: Internet Archive
Aria & Dawn of Sorrow:
Reminiscence of the Divine Abyss/Ricordanza of the God's Abyss
A light novel written by Ryōgo Narita in 2008 and set one year after Dawn of Sorrow. It's a really interesting read, the story focuses on Julius' pupil and the descendant of Grant Danasty while the villain is a character you will surely remember... There's also the return of familiar faces, one in particular.
Available on: Inverted Dungeon
Castlevania The Adventure:
It's a 2005 IDW comic book series loosely based on the story of the first Game Boy game. It's not canon by any means but it follows Christopher Belmont in a more traditional vampire story, sadly many of the iconic Castlevania elements are missing but it's still worth a read since here a certain family is responsible for Dracula's resurrection.
Available on: Internet Archive
Lament of Innocence:
Weekly Konami online manga (lost media)
A web manga that was available on cellphones via a monthly subscription, published from 2007 to 2008 only in Japan until the service ended in 2012. It was a 43 issues long series that adapted the story of Leon Belmont and greatly expanded the plot, what remains now is only a Japanese review blog. If you want to know more about it you can visit the Castl)evania Wiki page).

I know Maria & Richter are pushing it, but the visual continuity is still funny.

Hi folks, This is a promo of Little Caesar in Mexico that I found that Instagram and well it seems that it’s kind of far parody or I don’t know a promotional for the new game or simply it’s just an image for Halloween but I now can imagine Richter going to Dracula’s Castle for Pizza write your best parody related with Pizza of the “What is a man?, a miserable little pile of secrets!”

Games This game is fucking incredible
I just killed Medusa and made it to the catacombs. I headed back out because it was a few things I needed to do in the cemetery. Yo.
The Catacomb theme is the TRAILER theme which was outstanding to me. And then when I got back to the cemetery, I then said: oh this theme is good too.
I…I don’t know what to say. Man. I’m really just gobsmacked how much fun I’m having. No spoilers, y’all. I’m just…I just needed to express my joy.
“It doesn’t feel like Castlevania. The music is generic. It’s just a Deadcells clone.”
Yeah, I hope your gaming console gets dead.

Question Is the Castlevania Advance Collection a good follow-up to Belmont's Curse?
So, I'm actually quite liking Belmont's Curse. Once I'm done, Id be interested to take another bite into the franchise while keeping at a Steam ecosystem, and wass curious at the Advance Collection. I supose everybody is gonna tell me it's good, so I'm just asking if thematically/gameplay/storytelling, etc. would feel like a good follow-up.
I guess there's also the other collections, but I'm unsure if the old one would work/feel good on a Steaam Deck/Machine (i would ask on r/SteamDeck but everyone there has turned kinda fucking insane), and it seemed like this one was better to start before getting the Dominus Collection?

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) Why Belmont’s Curse feels like a celebration of the series, in my opinion
- Sequel to Castlevania III
- Symphony of the Night level design (especially in the Castle)
- Order of Ecclesia game structure
- Simon’s Quest cryptic hint system (but not as confusing)
- Super Castlevania IV whip swinging
- Mirror teleportation from Harmony of Dissonance
- Lament of Innocence lore
- PS2 era forced battles
- Card system like Circle of the Moon
- Platforming with traps similar to the Classicvanias (there are the modern platforming sections but others with traps reminded me of the old games)
- Getting skills from bosses like Aria/Dawn of Sorrow
- Brauner referencing Portrait of Ruin
- General weightiness of the series, the way Rose moves normally (without the movement upgrades) reminded me of Alucard (compared to something like Metroid Dread or even Dead Cells which both are much faster, like flowing water)
- Breakable candles
- Familiar enemies from across the series
- Belmont hunting down Dracula
- Plenty of Easter eggs to the rest of the series
This is all my personal opinion, but I was actually pretty certain this game wouldn’t “feel like Castlevania” a lot more than it did, in the end. But a lot of the systems actually have reminded me of things we’ve had throughout the series. The game isn’t perfect, and there’s a lot different, but I actually see why this was released as a 40th anniversary game as all these systems remind me of games we had in the past.
These, to me, is why I feel it fits in the series overall, despite being different. Maybe you don’t agree, but that’s how I see it.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) Something I found genius, yet incredibly tragic Spoiler
I completed 80% of the game and now want to talk about how Evil Empire absolutely nailed tragedy of first Belmont with Vampire Killer.
He wasn’t arrogant, wasn’t vengeful, yet he was kind to the very end. He chased Mathias his whole life and grown tired both physically and mentally, so when he got opportunity to just talk with Mathias, he couldn’t resist and spend time with him whole night. In his tired mind he was finally reunited with his best friend that he missed so much, and when he could notice that something was wrong, curse was already in action and everything became blurry.
From some perspective it’s even mercy by Mathias. He couldn’t be a good friend with Leon, yet give his mind peace, although with very severe consequences, that is reoccurring theme with Dracula, really.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) Some jump tech I figured out. Probably well known already but..
If you can manage to use the whip IMMEDIATELY after jumping off a wall it gives you a huge boost. Its kinda difficult for me as you can see but I'm sure you pro gamers can do it without a second thought ever time.
If this is somehow NOT known about already then I coin this the, Whip Jump!
