CSE / IT IT industry salaries and stability correlation which no one talks about

Most people want to move up from 4 LPA to 30 to 50 lpa n even further n grind constantly only to realise later that all these 30 to 50 lpa n beyond are getting replaced by newer grads with AI for cost cutting . The higher levels n salary u go , the more probability that you will be the first one to get cut when it comes to layoff

Rant/Vent Anybody over here actually like engineering?

I understand in India a lot of people make less than 6LPA with the whole family combined, so placements and jobs are a very big deal but like where are the people who like engineering? everyone i talk to joined engineering just because of the placements. even in IITs less than 40% go into the engineering field they studied (IIT K, kgp, B and D i have friends in, idk about M)

like where are the engineers? engineering pays much better than many other degrees even in core fields, and from what im hearing in mechanical there are positions that are not filled because companies cannot find suitable talent because nobody is studying mechanical engineering properly and filling up electives with software and electronics. and even then, most T-1 universities have been underfunding and ignoring their core engineering departments

from what i hear DCE, PEC, and COEP used to have a strong culture of engineering, and to a extent they still do, but its declined significantly, especially since BJP has a policy of not funding education (Im not trying to be political, just factual), with all three combined getting less funding than some of the worst funded and much inferior NITs because they are state collages/universities so even for passionate students in the old elites of engineering the department usually simply dont have finances for research and projects.

Edit: i opened this subreddit, and the first post i saw was a T-1 NIT CSE student who doesn't want to go into CSE. like bro wtf there was a student who actually liked computer or software engineering who could've been studying there.

CSE / IT Extremely confused regarding laptop purchase

Hey I'm a first year student studying cse with data science, I need a laptop for my college and daily use which is usable for the duration of the course

Now the confusion is whether I should go for an AI laptop or just a normal one

I was thinking about getting the lenovo IdeaPad slim 3 Ryzen 5 16/512 which I can get for like 68k but while enquiring offline, people suggest I get an ai laptop so now my father insisting that I get an ai laptop, the particular ai laptop was Lenovo IdeaPad 5 2in 1 for 96k

Is it worth spending 30k extra for "Future proof" or should I just get a normal one. I'm confused because I have no idea what I'll end up doing few years later and whether I would need a dedicated Ai laptop or not

Rant/Vent kya chutiya life hai hamari india mein

so I've been watching modern family for a while. I've also watched a fair share of western shows. this is something I've noticed.

ham indians especially youth kya ji rahe hai, yha hamari age 20-25 ho rhi bina ladki/ladka se baat kiya opposite sex ke, bina hand hold kiye. udhar teenagers parties kar rahe, date kar rahe, atleast quality of life hai in terms of needs, idhar ham ladki se baat kar le, ladkiya ko ghumne aur kapde pehne par log offend ho jate hai, pura teenage exams ki preparation mein nikal jata hai, hamari puri validation society mein exam crack karne se hoti hai, it doesn't stop until 30s. omfg, our whole youth is just preparing for exams or job, uske baad bhi jo salery mil rahi wo enough nhi ghar chalane ko generally unless you're top 10%. agar kisi ke sath relationship aa bhi jao to phir caste aur religion ka issue kyuki "izzat" jayegi ghar walo ki, as a guy it's more tough because even if you refuse to follow conventional norms of society, I've to follow masculine roles like being strong, masculine and provider otherwise meri value nhi society mein. bhai mai itna strong nhi & sometimes i cry thinking life is so tough but wo bhi kisi ko bol nhi sakta kyuki yha log bol dege aurato ki tarah rone lagg rha.

hamare yha 25-29 years ke log parents se chhup chhup kar club/bars jaate hai, trip par jaate hai, apni relationship ka mention bhi nhi kar sakte if you get in one, parents usually expect kar rhe hote ki unka beta/beti UPSC ya koi exam nikalega, ye bhi koi zindagi hai bc

Placements / Jobs Will i ever get a job?

In my 3rd(5thsem)Bhai mujhe samajh nahi aa rha. How will i get a job. Ece li thi cuz i thought AI will replace us but ece has very limited opportunities. Started Dsa to get into tech roles but what is lacking is my cgpa. I flunked my first year cuz i wanted to give jee again fir na jee hua na cgpa. Secomd yr ki start me i had a cgpa if 5.5. Tried my best ki cgpa bdhau and i managed to somehow take it 5.8 by end of 3rd sem. By end of 2nd yr i managed to take my cgpa to 6.1. But this sem has been a huge struggle i feel too much exhausted and my body is also not reciprocating. I have got lungs issues rn and it’s really impacting my studies. This sem i have scored really low marks in my midsems all single digits out of 40. My cgpa would probably get worse in this sem. And will fall below 6.
Good companies like google amazon Microsoft all come for intern opportunities in mid of 6th sem and i wont be having cgpa of even 6 let alone 6.5 what they ask. Every okayish recruiters of my college requires 6.5. How will do anything about it. I thought of preparing for CAT but that too needs a good cgpa. At this point i feel very lost. I feel like i am a waste of money and opportunities. I am a disappointment to everyone.

Showcase Your Project Building a startup with $0 is breaking me. After 1.5 years, 2 pivots, and a Top 10 PH launch, I have 0 paying customers. Need advice (and maybe a co-founder).

hey everyone, i am not writing this as marketing gimmick, i m writing this because i am completely exhausted and genuinely at a crossroads i am Bibhash Dutta i started my company flowtask at 19 year old it been 1.5 years old of grinding with literally zero rupees in my pocket and the toll it is talking on my mind and body is getting to be too much

here is the raw unfiltered journey of how i got here

the shit product phase

flowtask started as an AI workspace company think notion meets trello because i had zero budget i tried to build the whole thing using coding agent and doing the rest myself the reality I built exactly what people in the startup world warn you about a shit product i tried selling it to indian market most people didn't understand it or didn't even try. i managed to get 1 or 2 users who got the point but they didn't pay instead they found endless bugs as a solo dev i was sitting there fixing enterprise level bugs line by line i realized the core idea was flawed, which is why i wasn;t getting sales

pivot the automation realization i was stuck so i literally went to chatgpt and asked how i could change the idea it made me realize people don;t want another manual prodcutivity tool they want automation so i pivoted i made it so users could connect channles like custom emails and Slack. Messages would come in and automatically turn into tasks on a Kanban board, assigned to specific team members based on their job roles.

i bought a domain made a logo did some branding on socials, and launched on Product Hunt i hustled hard, messaging people in LinkedIn and PH groups to let them know we were launching we got 103 upvotes. But my distribution completely failed. Still zero paying customers.

pivot 2 the company brain yc rfs summer 2026 then I saw the yc rfs summer 2026 saw the company brain concept and realized Flowtask was mostly an execution tool not a brain so, we pivoted again we removed the standard workspace, added an approval layer, integrated MCP (Model Context Protocol), and added multiple channels.

i officially registered the company on April 21, 2026 we went back to product hunt this time we used automation to contact group members. It worked better: we got 145+ upvotes, hit the #10 Rank of the day and even got featured in the product hunt newsletter the reality check & where cold email failed Despite the #10 rank the newsletter feature and 1.5 years of sleepless nights... I still have no paying customers.

please don't just comment send cold emails i already tried Apollo i scraped founders, sent tons of cold emails, and got dead silence zero responses if you think my copy was bad, I can share how I wrote them in a follow-up post, but safe to say email felt like shouting into an empty void

I've been seriously considering open-sourcing the entire project just to get some relief from carrying this burden alone.

Where I genuinely need your help:

  1. Better distribution paths: Aside from cold emailing and vanity Product Hunt upvotes, how would you actually market and distribute a workflow/company-brain tool like this to get the first 5–10 paying users?
  2. Looking for a Co-Founder: I can build, integrate protocols, and ship fast, but I clearly need someone strong on the growth/distribution/marketing side. If this product space interests you and you want to partner up and take this on together, shoot me a DM.

Would really appreciate any raw, actionable ideas right now.

Rant/Vent Apparently I'll never get to experience 'College life', how to have fun? 🫠

(My clg is VIT Pune btw)

Got to know there's no freshers party, no garba nights, clg events are paid events with high fees too, no sports facilities or ground, how to survive in a clg like this ?

I'm seeing ppl of other clgs have so much fun, so many events n festivals ...and here we have nothing but just classes, ppt & assignments faltu ke 🫠

Genuinely done with this 'no fun' life ... Parents don't allow me having fun outside, they say 'padhne ke liye bheja hai bs wahi karo' this has been same since I was born ... socha tha clg jaake I'll do smtg but yaha bhi nahi, no campus life no college life no hostel life.

Btech ke baad mtech or job me toh vese bhi kuch fun krne nhi milne vala ... life is done here I'll get to have fun.

Placements / Jobs Internship - Amazon

Amazon has been hiring so many interns this season, it just makes me wonder if they actually even have the headcount to convert so many or will the conversion rate be bad ? Also, how can someone prepare before the internship starts/during the internship for strong conversion chances?

Showcase Your Project I used AI to find an undiscovered planet hiding in 17-year-old NASA data

Post image
110 Upvotes

Hey Btechtards ! I'm Kuber Mehta, I'm a third year undergrad studying CS and I like messing around with fun projects with AI when not working haha

I was playing around with the Kepler and TESS data last weekend when I hacked around a way to pixel-peep stars dimming periodically to potentially find new exoplanets with Codex.

I ended up running the engine to find an interesting signal in Kepler data that was uncatalogued with a dip repeating every 13.77 days around KIC 5689121, a red dwarf in Lyra about 970 light-years away. If it's a planet, it'd be roughly 2.5–3 times Earth's radius !

Here's some more things we can figure out about it:
- It's likely has a Neptune-like gaseous atmosphere.
- It would orbit under 1/4th of Mercury’s distance with less than 14 days in a "year".
- It may recieve 5× the amount of sunlight Earth gets.
- Even at the fastest speed a spacecraft has ever reached, getting there would take around 1.5 million years.

Funnily enough, this candidate is just 7.1 arcseconds from a much brighter neighbor (KIC 5689116) and is very hard to see because of how much brighter it is (probably why it went unnoticed for so long) and the light we're measuring left that star around 1050 AD!

Of course, there's work to do before calling it confirmed - my TRICERATOPS analysis is about 6.9% and we have to get IR/AO / Keck observations to prove it's out there ! (which I'm honestly intimidated by but cautiously optimistic about because I've never done much formal research before) but I found the activity of making cool tools to potentially discover things about our universe quite fun !

Here's the entire archive and research - kuber.studio/planethunt/

Would love feedback, especially from anyone who's worked with Kepler data or exoplanet validation :)

Serious 🚨SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS OF AN ORGAN TRAFFICKING RACKET AT NIT AGARTALA

Post image
92 Upvotes

A person who had allegedly been stealing at NIT Agartala was caught today. It was reportedly discovered that the individual was not a student or staff member of NIT but an outsider who had been staying on campus and allegedly engaging in theft.

What makes this allegation even more disturbing is that, following a police investigation, there are claims that the individual may have been involved in a much more serious criminal operation related to organ trafficking. Reports further allege that some students from NIT were being targeted and that arrangements had allegedly been made to take them to Guwahati and sell their kidneys.

If these allegations are true, this is an extremely alarming matter that demands an immediate and thorough investigation. The safety and security of students must never be compromised, especially within an institution of national importance like NIT Agartala.

Just imagine the consequences if a student had gone missing, suffered a serious injury, or even lost their life before this alleged operation was exposed. Who would have been held accountable? How could such a serious threat have gone unnoticed?
