[Sacrifice, the new Netflix movie] Like many millions of others, I, a general member of the public just saw... THAT happen WHAT THE HELL do I think just happened and what does the media and governments say happened?

Warning, spoilers for the the entire movie, which was AMAZING by the way, go watch it! Seriously! That out of the way...

I am John A Public, the name is a coincidence, yes, I hear that joke all the time. Like all of you I was enraptured as news reached us that the wealthiest tech CEO in the world and many other international celebrities were taken hostage at a charity event by insane, environmental terrorists with... very unclear motivations except they said the world would end if they didn't do a human some human sacrifices. An international manhunt occurred to try to find them which fully covered all the media in the world pretty much everywhere 24/7 for 3 days, during which we learned that a Yellowstone Super Volcano equivalent event was beginning to happen on a Greek island JUST as the police were about to rescue the hostages, only for one of the most famous actors in the world to appear to voluntarily JUMP into the volcano... AND THEN IT STOPPED ERUPTING!!!! <!

What do I, a general member of the public THINK just happened and what do governments, the media, religious institutions and other parts of society tell me happened? Because it SURE looks like magic is real or maybe god is real and they are a volcano or something?!?! Fuck!

[MCU] How do civilians know details of Endgame?

This question first popped up in my head watching WandaVision, when they basically powerscale Captain Marvel and Wanda (not Scarlet Witch yet) saying that they both had chances of defeating Thanos 1v1, but the characters having that chat were nowhere near the battle. Then in Love and Thunder there is the ice cream place with the gauntlet, and in VisionQuest, a character mentions Thanos looking like a ballsack.

My question is, how do these people know such details? Were the Avengers just trauma dumping every chance they got?

[Code Geass, Dr. Strangelove] If Suzaku was in the position of the plane crew (specifically Major Kong), flying over the USSR, what would he do?

(I know that Code Geass is set in an alternate universe and all, but for this scenario, imagine that Suzaku is the same attitude and personality, but instead of the Britannian Empire, it's the United States, specifically the satirical version of Dr. Stangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.)

For a quick recap of the film, a paranoid military commander decides to send planes over the USSR, ready to launch nuclear weapons, and there is debate in the government on what to do. While eventually they do manage to regain control, and order the planes to not attack and retreat, there is one plane that doesn't get the message, because an enemy missile damaged their radio system. The crew has doubts on what to do, but unfortunately they are being led by the jingoist Major Kong, who thinks that every order made by his superiors must be righteous and good, and you can see where this is going.

With that in mind, for this situation, I wanted to place in the character Suzaku. You can say he is...complicated, but in this scenario we see with how his personality and attitude is applied in a different situation. Here, he replaces Major Kong, but the story and premise more or less goes the same. He is leading a plane full of nuclear weapons, the radio is damaged, his crew members are doubting if they should carry on with dropping the bombs, and so forth.

And now with all this, the question is whether Suzaku would turn back, blindly follow the system and ride the nuke, or something else.

He can learn many disciplines pretty easily and has been honing his skills since he was a child.

[The New Batman Adventures] How was King Barlowe’s inheritance scam not discovered earlier?

One of the reasons the IRS exists is to look out for the type of thing Barlow pulled as their job is to verify inheritances and preemptively deduct back taxes before the inheritor can claim it.

[Star Wars] Star Wars has one currency across thousands of worlds. Who's setting interest rates?

The Republic credit is accepted across a huge number of systems, yet we never hear about anyone managing inflation or money supply across economies that must be wildly different. Real currency unions struggle with a couple of dozen countries sharing one currency. Foundation touches on interstellar money, and The Expanse mostly avoids it. Has any scifi universe made galactic money feel believable to you?

[Better Call Saul] was the shrink's number Jimmy offered to Howard a real, legitimate shrink, or was it another Saul ploy?

The phone number Jimmy gave to Howard in the bathroom when Howard mentioned he has insomnia. The one Jimmy eventually rips apart and flushed down the toilet.

P.S I also don't remember where he got the shrink's number from or who that shrink is meant to be.

[Mortal Kombat] Why Does Raiden Keep The Tournament a Secret?

• Upvotes

Raiden is the protector of Earthrealm, tasked with finding and training the fighters who will represent our realm in the Mortal Kombat tournament.

In pretty much every iteration of this story though, Raiden does his work in secret, recruiting fighters one by one. Why has he never attempted to cooperate with governments or martial arts organizations to help facilitate his quest?

He has no qualms about proving his godhood to individuals to convince them of his cause, why not do so through an organization that has the means and resources to seek out and train the very best fighters? The most elite professional fighters require significant infrastructural support to compete at their best, from training camps, to nutritionists, to specialized coaches.

Even if Raiden doesn't trust governments, surely he has the power to organize his own group to better protect his fighters. Raiden's fighters are constantly getting ambushed by the forces of Outworld and other belligerents, why not keep a standing army to guard against this so his fighters can focus on training and preparation?

Earthrealm seems kind of singular in this. Every other realm we've seen that's been pulled into Mortal Kombat seems to have a realm-wide awareness that this is happening. If the people of Earth knew that their fates depended on a group of warriors competing on their behalf, surely society would go a long way to making sure they have everything they need to fight at their best.
