Physician Responded Rabies

29, female, 250lbs

The raccoon has been confirmed to have rabies.

My sister had him for a week. Found him on the side of the road with his mom that had been hit. (I know, crazy, should have left it alone.) He was fine until he started using the bathroom on his self. My sister took him to a rescue. 4-5 days later they called her & said he has rabies.

This is literally all I touched. Just the towel. Never touched the raccoon. My brother got bit, my whole family handled it, they all got the shot. I was too scared to hold him, because rabies I know rabies is a thing.

I cannot remember if the towel was “wet” (google keeps asking me that)

I’m really freaking out. I don’t know if I need to go get the shot or not. I do not want to go to the ER & look crazy just yet.

Can anyone give me their opinion from this interaction?

Physician Responded I went from being active to rapidly declining in a months time. We don't have answers. Please help us.

F26, 5'3lbs, 255.5lbs (was 248.1 on the 10th). Latuda, Klonopin, lamictal, Diclofenac 4x/day, Buspar, baclofen, Lyrica, duloxitine - as needed, benedryl + eyedrops. HSD + PMOS w/ insulin resistance + neuropathy + BPD

I got an incredibly horrible viral sickness about 1.5 months ago. It was not COVID or the flu. Ever since then, I have been in and out of the ER, sick as hell. Please help me, I just want to get better. I've been out of work a month now.

I have migraines that vary in location and severity, the worst of them feeling like a not-cold brain freeze that makes me incredibly nauseated. I end up shivering and chattering and out of it, as if I'm running a fever (I'm not). Everything becomes inflamed and painful in my head- my sinuses, my eyes, even the roof of my mouth- my ears ache like I've been in the cold for hours, and I have a hard time popping them.

I get dizzy, everything feels static-y when I turn my head or try to move. I feel like I am going to black out. When I bend down, the pressure in my head drastically increases. It feels as thugh I'm hanging upside down.

I gained over 7lbs in 8 days. No known edema present. EKG at hospital a week ago normal.

Hands involuntarily twitching/flexing, primarily at night.

Hallucinations. Bugs on walls in the corners of my eyes, and I keep hearing my fiance's ringtone non-stop. I attribute this to stress however.

Night terrors nightly, combined with possible sleep paralysis. I can't tell if I'm having very vivid dreams, or paralyzed. I feel like I've also gotten significantly stupider this month. I can't even remember what I've done the previous day. My fiance has to remind me.

The Diclofenac stops the worst of the symptoms, the inflammation and the dizziness. The benedryl helps with the trouble breathing and not-congestion.

Labs came back normal except for elevated WBC. MRI and CT of brain came back normal. Opthamologist reports no swelling of the optic nerve that would be typical with IHH, but we're doing an LP to be sure, and an EEG to rule out seizures.

Please help me. This cannot be my life now. I need to get better. I need this to stop.

Thank you so much.

ETA: Also keep hinging my jaw open and sideways to the right when resting, and have to crack it back into place when I notice. Not sure why I've been doing that, don't even realize I do it until I put it back.

Physician Responded How bad is using a sauna to cut 5 pounds in a 13 year old girl ahead of a wrestling competition ?

Asking because a family friend told me they’re doing this with their daughter who they’re trying to turn into a wrestling star and to me, that sounds like borderline child abuse and setting her up for body image issues.

Just wondering if people closer to the sport feel differently and maybe cutting 5 pounds with a sauna isn’t as bad as I think? Like is that considered normal? Idk the girls starting weight which ik would be super helpful in assessing how harmful this is. All I know is she just turn 13 and appears average size.

Physician Responded Had a very deep cut from a broken beer mug at the bar few days ago. It bled a lot then my finger became numb on one side. Will the sensation ever return?

I had a very drunk woman throw a chair at me which caused the glass to break and cut me in multiple places. Unfortunately this happened while I’m traveling and I don’t have insurance. I treated it myself to the best of my ability with peroxide, neosporin and other topical creams I can find. I am able to move it fine for the most part again and straighten it but still don’t feel anything on one side. I can poke it with something sharp or touch something hot and there’s no sensation at all. Also, occasionally I get this electric shock-like sensation when I move my hand in certain positions.

Lumps appearing, severe knee pain

M26, 6ft & 9 stone, not on medication, frequent vaper, no current diagnoses

Hi, maybe about a year or two ago I noticed a lump in my left leg with no pain, I just brushed it off with a cyst - however it has now grown alot more than I have remembered. It is approx 1inch in hight and 1/2 an inch wide.
Within that time maybe a year ago also I noticed a lump on my thumb - thought it was a ganglion cyst, and hasn’t caused much mobility issues.
About a month ago a small pea sized lump has appeared on my thigh
These are my knees as they are right now

None of these issues have caused me pain so I haven’t given too much time into it as to no not waste NHS time. (Except my thumb if I catch it on something)

However tonight, my right knee is in incredible pain - like a deep throb inside my bone - beneath the kneecap, doesn’t feel like an injury even though you can see bruises - I have no recollection of how I may have got them. I have taken co-codamol and has seemed to stop the severe ache but it still hurts. I have always dealt with lower leg pain for a long time but just attributed to being underweight.

I also today just felt around my body to see if I have any more lumps - when I felt my tailbone, it felt like a soft stabbing pain, and honestly felt quite weird - like it was pointing inwards rather than straight down as I recalled it to normally be, like an extra part I haven’t discovered - however this might just be human anatomy and I’m uneducated obviously!

I wanted to mention at the moment I have been seeing doctors about my bowel, as I had a fecal calprotectin level of above 300 - had a colonoscopy, and an mri to see if I can process stools correctly. Colonoscopy was fine and mri was inconclusive as I was unable to pass stools - I assume it is unrelated anyway. Having biofeedback therapy soon.

Just kinda feel like my whole lower body waist down is giving me problem after problem. Manageable, but after tonight maybe not.

If this is something to cause to concern for some professionals, I will make a trip to my GP. However I would like some advice about what I should be telling them to look for. As I haven’t been satisfied with the care I have gotten for my stomach - so going back I would like to take a bit more control and direction.

Thanks for your help!

31 female, 5’6” 160 pounds. I’ve had this hard bump on my eyelid for weeks now. I’ve been doing warm compresses on it but seems it’s getting worse. It hurts and the vein above is getting more irritated. No new products have been used on face or around eye.

Hurts to touch. Especially around the eyelash line. Any suggestions or steps to take? Thank you!

Update: the rim of the eyelid has become hard. Compared to a normal soft rim on my other eye.

Physician Responded help. unknown rash for two weeks NSFW

i will attach pictures of how this rash has progressed in comments. it has been getting worse day by day for 2 weeks now. it’s all over my torso, back, breasts, under both armpits, down my groin, on my pubic area, inside my buttcrack, on my buttocks, down my thighs and arms and a bit to my neck and around ears. nothing relieving it or stopping spread. i’ve tried fexofenadine and that didn’t help at all, eczema creams, even did scabies treatment as i was told to treat as a precaution but that only made my skin more sore. it was so itchy i was having to sleep with ice packs and waking out of my sleep itching. its still itchy but slightly reduced. any idea what this could be? my doctors just keep telling me to take antihistamines and use lotion but it’s spreading over my whole body more and more each day.

Painful cracking/shocking sensation when turning my head.

Post image
12 Upvotes

I’m a 24-year-old female and have dealt with this for as far back as I remember. It doesn’t happen all the time, it’s kinda like once in a blue moon. But I will turn my head whichever way and get this very painful sensation in the back of my head where it connects to my neck. It’s not directly in the middle, it’s off to the side, whichever side. The pain/sensation goes in a vertical line up my head. It feels like I got hit in the back of the head. Someone once told me it was a nerve thing but idk.

In the diagram above, the red line shows where the pain ranges, it is only one side at a time, never both sides at the same time.
The blue circle is where I feel the cracking/popping/shocking sensation and where most of the pain is. Only one of those spots hurts and cracks at a time, never at the same time.

Physician Responded Got bit by a cat- should I go back to urgent care?

Post image
13 Upvotes

I, 27F, got bit while volunteering at a rescue on Friday night. Freak accident, cat got his leg trapped in the cage bars and bit me when I went to free him. He is fine.

I left urgent care within three hours of being bit- took me awhile to clean up, figure out next steps, and be seen.

Started antibiotics then and have been taking them diligently, but my hand seems more swollen, red, and painful. I’ve also been feeling a bit sick, but could be a coincidental cold or something.

I’m debating if it’s worth going to urgent care again or if I just need to let antibiotics do their thing. Most posts are just saying to get antibiotics right away, but not when it’ll start getting better.

I’m on Citalopram for depression and have an IUD, but don’t think that matters too much in this case…

Physician Responded 4 yr old with irregular heartbeat?

My 4 yr old girl (5 in december), approximately 42 pounds has been experiencing waves of “not feeling good” as she describes it. When I ask what’s wrong she says it’s her tummy but she is eating normally and playing as usual. This has been going on for months. I took her to the doctor and they did a plethora of blood tests which all came back normal. That was 3 weeks ago, and she’s still complaining of not feeling well nearly every day. I’m not sure if it’s anxiety or something health related but it’s making me worried.

Fast forward to yesterday, she was laying her head on my chest and told her she could hear my heartbeat so I laid my head or her chest to listen to hers and it sounded different. I’m not entirely sure what an irregular heartbeat sounds like, or if it could cause you to not feel well so I’m coming here to ask if her heartbeat sounds irregular? All I had was a doppler from when I was pregnant to listen. Should I take her back to the doctor or could this be anxiety related? Please let me know if anyone has experienced something similar or has any input, thank you all!

Physician Responded Need help. Speaking problem

Hi everyone!
I’m looking for some advice because this situation is starting to make me really anxious.
I’m a 30-year-old woman (5’9, 140 lbs, no smoking) currently 15 months postpartum, and I started experiencing pronunciation difficulties around June 2026. Basically, I’ll be trying to say a word, but I’ll completely mispronounce certain syllables. I’ve been on maternity leave since June 2025, and this started about a year into my leave.
I was supposed to return to work in September, so at first I thought it might be related to the stress of going back to work. However, I’ve now been back at work for about a month and a half, and the problem is still happening.
I went to see my family doctor, who ordered a comprehensive set of blood tests. Everything came back looking normal. I also had an MRI, but I’m still waiting for the results.
I’ve never had any pronunciation difficulties in my entire life, either as a child or as an adult. I’ve been through extremely stressful situations before, such as giving thesis presentations in front of 100–200 people, which made me incredibly anxious, and I never had any issues speaking or pronouncing words.
There is a history of very low B12 levels in my family due to a genetic condition. At first, I thought this might be the cause, but my doctor said my B12 levels looked normal. I also wondered whether it could be related to hormonal changes since I’m postpartum, but my doctor said everything looked normal in that regard as well.
My baby is now 15 months old and has been sleeping through the night and taking good naps since he was six months old, so I don’t think sleep deprivation is the issue.
I would really appreciate hearing about your experiences and any recommendations you might have. Should I ask for any additional tests? Is there anything else I should look into or try to improve this problem?
I really want to get to the bottom of this, especially because my job involves a lot of speaking, giving presentations, and leading meetings. More than anything, though, I want to understand what is causing this and why it started in the first place.
Some days are better than others. There are days when it might only happen once, but it does happen every single day.
I know that becoming aware of the problem may be making it worse. Once you notice something like this, you start thinking about it constantly and getting anxious about it, which seems to make it happen even more. I realize that anxiety might be playing a role, but I still don’t understand what caused it to start in the first place.
I’m sorry if some of my sentences aren’t perfectly clear. French is my first language, so it’s a little harder for me to put everything into fluent English.
Thank you so much for any advice or insight you can offer!

Physician Responded OCD in 12 year-old female

For as long as I can remember, I’ve (40F, US) had a bizarre compulsive need for a sort of symmetry in sensation across my body. If I touch something with the left hand, I often have to re-create the same sensation on my right hand with equal pressure. If I blink too hard with one eye, I have to “fix it” by blinking with equal pressure with the other eye. If I exhale too powerfully, sometimes I have to create a similar sensation by inhaling to satisfy this need for tactile symmetry. I do this throughout most of the day without really thinking about it, but it has been recognized as OCD by my therapists in the past.

My 12 year-old daughter (4’6”, 72lbs) recently described an identical experience, without prompting or hearing of my own experiences. I never imagined that something so specific could be passed down, but I have to wonder if this is something worth addressing since she is still so young and her brain is so much more malleable than mine.

Is this something that can be addressed therapeutically (preferably without pharmaceutical intervention) and what kind of doctor is best suited for that treatment?

Lumbar Fracture Follow Up

Post image
6 Upvotes

45/m, 6’0, 190 lbs. type 1 diabetic, severe osteoporosis, low testosterone. (Last two discords during the slow healing/ failed fusion)

Long story short, I was involved in a very minor solo car accident that fractured my back in a few places. This image is roughly 6 months post surgery showing not only did the L1-L3 fusion not take place, but L2 remained split.

I’m told this particular fracture patten is uncommon, but overall the hardware put in has stabilized the spine. The hardware on the right side was removed 6 weeks after the initial surgery after an infection surfaced. The left side was left in place and the right was not replaced.

This has left me with significant chronic pain. I’m able to move around decently, but my back gets frequently tired. I tend to need to rest more often - shopping cart sign, taking more frequent breaks to sit, etc.

My general understanding is that the hardware will eventually work itself loose and it’s highly likely that at some point I’ll need additional surgery, but no rush to do that if I’m mobile and functional.

Am I stuck with chronic pain forever? Are there other options to consider to assist?

How could I find out what is unusual about my reaction to hospital painkillers?

Years ago I (30F) took an ambulance to hospital for an aneyrysm. I got painkillers, and on arrival I had a bad reaction I can't remember more specifically. It was not listed in paperwork (probably could not be confidently differentiated from symptoms of the aneyrysm).

Then I was on a large dose of painkillers through my IV, so large that it was the main topic of discussion with everyone who spoke to me in the urgent care unit. "That dose is enough to kill horse or two, you know, haha :)" etc.

Some nurses assumed I had a tolerance due to a drug abuse history, which I do not; it was my first time receiving hospital grade drugs since I got my tonsils out as a preteen. I had only used acetaminophen or ibuprofen, and infrequently -- I always found them ineffective. After I discovered ketoprofen in hospital, it has been my only painkiller of choice because it actually relieves pain.

I would like to find out what is unusual about my reaction to hospital grade painkillers, because i can't assume I will never need hospital treatment again. I also don't want to get into a situation where I'm assumed to be drug-seeking, when I actually just need medication. It would be cool if addicts could get good medical care and basic respect also! So I feel bad saying, i don't want to be treated like a junkie.

I had my patient file printed out, but it was not infromative. When I questioned the hospital about my medication, I mostly got shrugs.

Details: White, 166 cm, 70 kg, thyroid deficiency medication, never-smoker, infrequent alcohol, daily caffeine, no drugs. Finland.

Are pharmacogenetic tests useful in my situation? Can I find out what the typical doses of various drugs are for a person my size, and from there infer what is weird about my opiate metabolism?

Edit: I just remembered, I was given Fentanyl and it worked well for me, no bad reaction.

Edit: I am looking at the paperwork again, and it looks like I was just given a bunch of oxycodone, with an option for fentanyl when neeeded. The oxycodone was oral and iv, but I can't see if the dosage is weird. The doctor has added a note, max 40 mg per 24 hours. It's not a starter dose, but when I google these drugs it says to adjust as necessary. I don't see what is so weird here, were the nurses just giving me shit...

Hello, i am a 26yo female. I became sick last sunday 10/11 and went to urgent care and was swabbed for strep, for localized pain and one white patch in my throat that almost looked like an ulcer on the right side and was started on amoxiclav despite it being negative due to chronic strep. monday i became more sick, large swollen lymph nodes, fever and fatigue. Tuesday was even worse, sweating higher fever and localized pain in my throat. went back to urgent care was given an antibiotic injection and started on cefdinr. i continued getting sicker overnight and went to the er the next day, my cbc shows low wbc, lower than normal platelets and elevated liver enzymes. i was told it was viral but to continue my antibiotic. i have a negative flu covid, strep and mono test at this point. but today there’s starting too look like a hole in this spot? i am so scared and im a single mom i have to go back to work tomorrow :(
