How many of you guys have friends that would go out of the way for you.

I’m reflecting on my life and I don’t think I have any friends at all that would go the extra mile for me. I mean I have friends that would turn up to birthday parties but no one that I could really rely on. My mum on the other hand has a few people (a few) that she can call when she needs something done urgently and they show up.

Sorry i guess im asking here bc i wonder if this is a me thing or a societal thing. Im mid twenties. Do you guys that are 25-35 (or anyone) have good friends?

Haven't seen a dentist in over 10 years and feel so nervous about booking an appointment.

Hi everyone,

So, I haven't been to a dentist in over 10 years!

I feel very ashamed and embarrassed about this. I've been planning on seeing one for so long, but I simply had one excuse after the other. I was either studying, couldn't afford it, working, raising kids...

I had braces as a teenager and have also taken care of my teeth with regularly brushing and flossing. I've never experienced any pain or bleeding, so I haven't noticed anything glaringly obvious.

I just feel so ashamed, though, and obviously quite apprehensive about booking an appointment.

Just wondering if anyone else has been in a similar position

I want to move interstate to get away from my verbally abusive dad. Do i just resign from my job and only give them the reason "I'm moving interstate"?

In Australia, when we resign from a job, we just give them a reason like, "I'm moving interstate to [insert city]". And my manager will ask why, and i can say "I've been to that city before and I love it and I want to move there".

And just leave it at that? I won't mention the real reason which is my dad literally always tries to pick a fight with me verbally and just sits there and shouts and shouts, but he literally thinks he's 100% right and he always puts everyone down, but he doesn't think he's putting people down, he literally thinks he's giving constructive criticism.

I'm moving interstate because living in the same city means dad will be visiting a lot.

Also, my own managers have yelled at me very loudly multiple times before, similar to how my dad yells at me. But my own managers say it's because there's no room for error. And I told the other staff, and the staff said to me "they've never heard the managers yell". One of the staff once clicked her fingers at me with her fingers really close to my face. But she only did it once.

I just don't want to work in an environment where the staff are nice 95% of the times and suddenly they put their anger on me 5% of the time.

Or maybe my dad, my coworkers and managers are actually good people, and I'm the crazy one. Clearly we are negatively clashing with each other, so moving interstate away from them will solve the problem.

But funniest part is that my dad and my workplace are going to start getting so angry that I want to move interstate.

But I reckon they can't yell at me and also get angry at my choice to move interstate too. They want me to stay so they can treat me poorly? I only have one life and I dont want to be a puppet.

Do you still see the British monarch as your King?

Kiwis and Tuvaluans who come across this post are more than welcome to share your thoughts as well!

Do you still genuinely see and respect the British monarch as your Head of State? Do you proudly acknowledge the British King or Queen as your monarch?

I’m particularly curious because your countries still proudly feature the Union Jack on their national flags, which I find really interesting!

Why was Imperial Japan barely taught in school compared to Nazi Germany?

Japan was a bigger threat for Australia so it would make sense why it would be taught more. What am I missing here?

Why are so many Australians against having just one kid?

I get so many negative comments when I mention that I only want 1 kid. It's surprising considering how people are struggling to find decent jobs or buying a house.

It's your choice if you want 2 or 3 or how many ever. But why judge others?

Back in my country, only childs are very common and not looked down upon at all.

I get comments like how my kid would be lonely, that a sibling is necessary, and that I should make the career and financial sacrifices as there is no greater joy then to see siblings fight and stuff

But what's wrong with only having one and giving them the best life you can? Money is important afterall. Not the most important but it still is

Trying to find a penpal from the other side of the world… [M/19]

Heyy, hope you're doing well… I'm from Canada, and I'm trying to find a penpal from Australia.. I'm an old soul who'd pick a vinyl record, a vintage car, or a worn out book of poetry over almost anything modern. I'm a bit of a weird human and far from perfect, but I think that's part of the charm…
I love being outdoors, whether it's hiking, camping, fishing or stargazing, lying under the sky in total silence, letting my thoughts drift, is my version of peace…

And poetry is a big part of my life. I read it, I write it, and I love finding a single line that says exactly what I couldn't put into words for days. I'm also someone who enjoys deep conversations about life, dreams, fears, and the little things that make an ordinary day feel meaningful. Small talk is fine, but I'd rather talk about what's really on your mind.

I love deep conversations about life and the things people don't usually say out loud, I'm also just as happy hearing about your week or just what made you laugh or just what's up in your side of the world..

Either way, have a blessed night, wherever in Oceania you are!! (I think that's what it's called, if not I'm so sorry)
(If it's not night, still good night😭 it will come sometime)

Are GP visits completely free in Australia?

I am thinking of booking an appointment to see the doctor due to bowel problems.

However, I am unsure whether a GP appointment costs money or not.

I do have a Medicare card.

Nursing in Queensland?

Hey everyone,

I am considering studying nursing in Queensland. I know that a lot of people absolutely do not recommend it and I have seen online and been told by family and friends not to do it and to not even consider it at the very least. I have always wanted to work in health, particularly more medical and less therapy based. I love helping people and especially have an interest in oncology or helping/working with children.

Can any nurses or people studying nursing or have in the past tell me some pros and cons about the career and overall what you would recommend? If not, any other jobs similar to nursing (I know of sonography and that was initially my first choice but I didn't get in due to the competitiveness and high ATAR).

Thanks, help would be greatly appreciated (I am so stuck)!

Recommendations for stainless cookware and knifes

I’m in the market for some new good quality knifes and stainless steel cookware. I have had some old baccarat ones from when I first moved out some years ago and the bases are starting to bubble/warp so it’s time for a new set. I’m okay with anything other than non stick. But ideally stainless steel would be better as I would like to keep them for 10+ years if I can

I’m also in the market for a decent knife set. Something that can hold its edge for a while and will last a life time if I look after jt

Please drop some recommendations below and where you may buy them from

Has anyone else been sick with various colds/flus/gastros all year?

Basically that - I am 19, generally quite healthy, but ever since the start of this year, I am sick with some form of respiratory infection at least twice a month. It is irritating, given work, uni and life in general moves on. Is there something going around, or is my immune system just bad?

Help with ideas on next job

I left my corporate job in Sydney a few months ago due to burnout and stress- related health issues. I’m now looking to find a job outside of the corporate environment with ideally less stress and hours, something that I can’t bring home, but obviously have a very niche skill set (accounting)… I’m looking into doing some AUSTSWIM training and potentially looking at jobs working at a cafe or in a kitchen. Has anyone been through this? Any suggestions please and thank you

Needing advice on Lexapro 20mg

Hi all, need some advice with my mental health journey and SSRI intake.

Just curious to see if anyone else has experienced this and if its still like the adaption stage.

I have been on lexapro since start of the year for general/social anxiety. I recently upped my dose from 15-20mg and currently in week 10 on 20mg.

At first, 10-15mg was all good and reaped the benefits which eliminated 80% of the issues. However since moving onto 20mg, it was going really good until week 10 on the higher dose, the past couple of weeks i have felt anxious, depression, nauseous, sleepy/fatigued and in a bubble-like trance, oh and also wacky dreams. Don’t know if i am still adapting but I don’t feel myself.

Hoping this will level out as the benefits from 10-15 have been great but now on 20mg on week 10 I’m feeling off.

Just needing advice from someone that has gone through a similar treatment journey and if this is still my body getting used to the higher dosage.

Thanks all

Laying New Grass

How hard is it to lay some new grass squares? Do you just aerate the pre-existing dirt, put down some topsoil and fertiliser and then lay it? Does a Stanley knife cut trim the squares down easily or is another tool needed? If there is rain around is now a good time to do it?

Will changing my number lower the amount of spam calls I get?

• Upvotes

I get incredibly frequent spam/scam calls, some actual scams from "The ATO" etc, but a lot of them are from sales people who know my name, trying to sell private health insurance or solar panels or whatever. I assume my details got out in one of the data breaches that happened a while ago (I was a customer at 3 or 4 different places that had data breaches).

I know that at least part of the answer is to stop answering calls, but I am currently looking for work so I have to answer calls that are potentially from employers.

If I cancel my current number, get a new number, and use that new number for only esssential things (use a Google Voice number or something for everything else), will this have any effect on the number of spam calls I get? Or do most of them come from places just calling every number possible?

Amazon Returns

Have any of you returned an item outside of the return window using a QR code that was created during the return window?

If so, was it ever actually rejected/not refunded because of the timeline?

I read the QR codes technically don't expire like it says they will, but that Amazon can refuse the refund and keep the items.

I have a few items I boxed up and forgot about 🤦🏼‍♀️ they are about 3 weeks beyond the return by date. Is it worth taking the chance on the return?

Recommendations for Melbourne with mom (no car)

I am traveling with my mom to Melbourne from Nov 25th for 4 days. We love shopping, coffee and would love to get recommendations on what are some must do things. We would be in Sydney for 5 days before this.

Any good shopping places to go to?

I am confused between 12 apostles or Puffing Billy

this is my plan for now

Day 1: (living in southbank) Southbank Promenade, Yarra River waterfront walk, Flinders Street Station, Federation Square, Hosier Lane, Bourke Street Mall, Christmas Night Market (if running)

Day 2: Great Ocean Road, Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, rainforest walk, koala spotting

Day 3: Royal Botanic Gardens, Degraves Street cafés, State Library Victoria, Melbourne Central, Emporium, Bourke Street Mall, Royal Arcade, Block Arcade, Black Friday shopping

Day 4: Queen Victoria Market, Fitzroy, Gertrude Street, Brunswick Street, cafés and boutique shopping

I am okay to take any tour bus or uber to any places as well.

Would love any suggestions. Thanks so much!

Please recommend best vantage point for NYE celebration

Guys, we want to experience the NYE fireworks in Sydney travelling especially from India but getting confused on the best vantage point. We're okay to spend 60-70 AUD for few points but does that guarantee us a good spot at the point? Would we still have to arrive early? We're gonna be checking into our hotel on 31st only. Or we should go for a free point? Is the crowd manageable? Please help!!!
