Is there a dating crisis for Aussies in their 20s? Thinking of hosting events in each city, would love your input…

I'm a 27F and I keep seeing the conversation that Australia has a dating crisis for people in their twenties. A lot of what I hear (from friends, online, and my own experience) is that many men don't really know how to approach women or what a good first impression looks like, and that dating apps have made in-person connection even harder.

I'm wondering whether it's a real problem or just a loud online narrative, so I'd love to hear from both sides:

Do you feel there's a dating crisis in your city?
Men: is approaching women in person intimidating? What would make it easier?
Women: what would make you feel comfortable meeting someone at an event?

I'm thinking of hosting a social event in each major city every second month. The format would be that men make the first approach, to take the guesswork out of it for women and give men a low-pressure place to practise, with some structure, like conversation starters or a few icebreaker activities, so it doesn't feel awkward or like a meat market.

Would you go to something like this? What would make it work, and what would make it a flop? Any venue, format or safety tips are welcome too.
Keen to hear honest opinions, including the critical ones!

Is there men interested in plus size women in Australia?

I (19F) have been struggling on dating apps and can't find anyone interested in me. I have moved to Sydney from a regional town and thought that maybe I would have a better chance at finding someone. However I have had no luck so far and I have had tinder, hinge and bumble for months.

For further context I am basically fat and I understand that this has automatically contributed to me already being at the bottom of the dating pool and has steered many people off. But I have been trying to be optimistic and to keep the mindset that everyone finds their person. But this has been decreasing each time I'm on a dating app as I continue to see that I have no likes whatsoever. (would you guys say this is a sign of being extremely ugly?)

I honestly thought I would at least find one person interested in me, as I have seen bigger girls get guys. I just genuinely want to know where to meet men who like bigger women and not as a fetish someone who wouldn't mind being in a relationship with one. Because at this point I seriously think it's non-existent and it's really messing with my mental health as I really yearn to find and experience love.

Please be nice, I don't want any hate as this issue is already affecting my mental health and self esteem. I just want advice on what to do here and how to find someone.

Can we ask about dating advice on here or is everyone sick of it?

Late 40’s single dad here living on the Gold Coast and working in Brisbane. I have previously posted here and the advice was incredible.

My question is, do women in Australia have concerns dating a single father? Is this a bad stigma?

I feel I have done well thus far in my life for example but can’t seem to find someone who is keen to get to know me.

- own a home
- decent job
- Two teenage kids who cause minimal issues
- I feel I look after myself and present decently
- respectful, polite and social

I have met women but then get ghosted and ignored, which is fine to be honest but it would be great to know why, long term. Would help with fixing whatever is up.

I am open to all cultures and accepting of others, so it’s not my preferences for example as I am happy to meet and get along with anyone. I am not precious and I can take criticism as well and I am happy for any advice and or opinions.

The online dating isn’t working so I have given up on that. I have done groups like hiking and tennis and book club and run club and walk club and coffee club and let’s just chat club etc etc etc etc. Those clubs were cool but mostly full of married people socialising and also wanting to cheat and that’s not my thing.

Is it just a case of wait and see and just wait it out? Whether a woman is single with no kids or single with kids for example, what is it that you are really seeking ? I’d be happy just to get along with someone and just cuddle and watch a movie and chat or just chat and watch a movie with no touch. It doesn’t even need to be wild. Outside of work and dad life, any interaction would be nice.

There must be other men and women in this same situation as well.

Hey everyone! Could you suggest some interesting places to visit, like museums, monuments, or places similar to Warner Bros. Studio Tour in the UK? I’m not really into mountains or beaches, so I’d love some recommendations. Thank you 😊

Taxes if I move abroad

Hi guys,
I have a question for ausies living abroad especially in tax free countries like UAE. Do you have to pay tax to Australia for your income abroad? If so, is it the normal tax rates you would pay in Australia or would it be adjusted?

Why do Australians act like the budgets tight when it’s not?

Emigrated here a few years ago.
Still getting used to Australian politics.
Budget Question:
With the cost of living issues and global economic pressures it seems Australia has a culture of trying to blame lack of money in the budget as if it’s tight to rob one initiative or public service to pay for another. Which only serves to set us against each other and widen Australia’s cultural divide like America.

But from what I can see Australia’s Government has heaps of money and just prioritises things like Defence research and development grants for contracting agencies, tax credits for resource exporters, for some reason I can’t work out what seems to be tax credits/savings for a specific generation using housing as an investment scheme, ADF black budgets. And it looks like even reducing these by single digit percentages could alleviate massive financial burden.

EILI5: Why does Australia seem to have a culture of focusing on blaming one party or group for the economic state for the budget tightness and not WHAT or HOW the budget is allocated?

Please make it make sense.

Has anyone notice an uptick where people are moving to Dubai?

Seems to be tons of people suddenly moving to Dubai.

For those who have moved to Dubai, or lived in Dubai, how was it? Did you miss Australia, or do you think Dubai was a better and or more exciting place to live?

Why is there so little competition between telco providers Australia

There is only 3 major ones, Telstra, Optus & Vodaphone and companies with their own ways of using each of the major providers and re branding it. Why don’t we have more competition?

Yarra Valley day trip from Melbourne without a car. How do we get around?

Hi everyone!
My partner and I are planning a day trip to the Yarra Valley from Melbourne in December. We’d like to leave Melbourne in the morning, spend the day exploring the region, and return to Melbourne in the evening.
We’re hoping to visit a few wineries, the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie, and Healesville Sanctuary. We’d also love to see some beautiful vineyard views and have a nice lunch.
I’d love some advice on a few things:
**1. What are the must-visit places?**
Which wineries would you recommend for beautiful views, wine tastings and a nice atmosphere? Are there any other spots worth visiting in the same day? Is it realistic to fit wineries, the Chocolaterie and Healesville Sanctuary into one day, or would that be too rushed?

**2. How should we get around without driving?**
We don’t want to self-drive because we both want to enjoy wine tastings, and driving back to Melbourne afterwards wouldn’t be ideal.
Would taking a train from Melbourne to Lilydale and then using buses be practical? If so, how would we travel between the different wineries, the Chocolaterie and Healesville Sanctuary? Are taxis or rideshares readily available in the region, or is it risky to rely on them?

**3. Are there any other transport options?**
We’re happy to pay for convenient transport, but would prefer not to spend a fortune on a private car if there’s a better alternative.

Our ideal day would be to leave Melbourne in the morning, visit a few different places at a comfortable pace, and return in the evening without worrying about transport.

Would really appreciate recommendations from anyone who has explored Yarra Valley without a car. Thank you! 😊

Do waitstaff get the tip when I pay by card?

I'm not big on tipping unless warranted (like the waitstaf have gone above and beyond, or the food was exceptional).

But when I do tip, I want to make sure it goes to the right people.

When you pay by card, and it gives you the option to tip, does that actually go to the staff? Or does it go straight to the business?

Edit: Thanks to those who actually answered the question.

To everyone that had an issue with this question, get over yourselves. If you don't want to tip, then don't. If i want to give a bit extra to someone that did an amazing job, I will.

It has nothing to do with "TiPpInG cUlTuRe", and everything to do with me showing appreciation to another human being. If that offends you, bad luck.

called ATO twice and have been hung up on - desperate need of answer for ATO linking code

Hi
I’m a first year uni student and this is the my first time I need to do tax return so I’ve been trying to link my ATO account to myGOV but each time I’ve tried I got a message saying I needed to call the ATO for a linking code. I’ve called twice in the past week and more over the last month but each time the automated message just informs me they are experiencing an unusually high demand and have my call dropped.
Not sure what’s to do in this situation as I need to lodge tax return by the 2nd so I don’t get fined.

What do you think about an opt-out organ donation program?

Other countries have trialed an opt-out system for deceased organ donation and was just wondering what the consensus is on this possibly being rolled out in Aus? Would you be for or against it?

Question about the titanium earring options when getting a piercing. Are they actually titanium? Is the backing titanium too? I ask because my earrings are discolouring and one of my piercings is still bleeding slightly 5 weeks later. Only when I clean it which is daily. The moment the cotton tip touches the back, a drop of fresh blood appears. Link below are the earrings I got. Thoughts?

Please recommend best vantage point for NYE celebration

• Upvotes

Guys, we want to experience the NYE fireworks in Sydney travelling especially from India but getting confused on the best vantage point. We're okay to spend 60-70 AUD for few points but does that guarantee us a good spot at the point? Would we still have to arrive early? We're gonna be checking into our hotel on 31st only. Or we should go for a free point? Is the crowd manageable? Please help!!!

Should I contact my daughter’s employer?

My 15 year old daughter got her first job at Dominos about 3-4 weeks ago but hasn’t started yet. She had to message the manager 3–4 times chasing up promised paperwork. As far as we know she’s completed everything, with a follow up text asking if we need to do anything more and have been ghosted.

I don’t particularly want to get involved as my daughter has done all this on her own and I’m very proud of her but this is ridiculously unprofessional and just very disappointing for something that should be exciting for her.

Next step I think is I’ll get my daughter to call the manager but i kinda want to call myself.

What else can we do without being too pushy or annoying?
