Help Request My poor baby fell 3-4 feet.

My sweet girl (mystery snail) Elaine escaped her tank and fell about 3-4 feet and when I found her, her shell was badly broken. I was a freaking mess. I love my girl. So I looked up what to do as she was still alive. I put her in the tank and she was moving her antennas. I found you could try egg shell. So I prepared some eggshell pieces. Cleaned the goop but kept the membrane on. I took her out. And slowly rebuilt her shell. I only used aquarium safe glue and only touched her remaining shell to attach. She was moving and responsive when I was handling her. Such a sweet girl. I then set her back in the tank once the glue was nice and dry. I watched her body slowly start to move into the Shell more. And then she didn’t move for a couple days. Then on the fourth day, I came out to check on her and found her siphon had found a crack through the eggshell and was hanging limp. Her trap door was still tightly shut and she didn’t smell so I knew she was still alive even though her siphon was limp. she was obviously trying to get oxygen but too weak to move. So I put her in a container with water in it and it’s floating on the top of her tank. I put her on her side where her siphon would be closest to the water as I didn’t put a ton of water in the container, just enough to cover her. She didn’t seem to move and the next day I came out to check on her. I noticed her siphon looked a tiny bit shorter. And as I was cleaning out the water, she actually retracted it and put it back into her shell. Now today she has not had any movement. But she still tightly in her shell. I have her in the container so she can breathe with her siphon if needed. I honestly don’t know if she will survive and I’m freaking heartbroken. She’s obviously trying to live, so I’m doing my best to support her. I’m concerned that she hasn’t moved. I know she’s not dead, but she’s obviously recovering from a serious fall. How long can mysteries snails live without eating? Has anyone experienced something like this and if so, what happened? Also, please be kind and don’t come at me for my terrible egg shell replacement job, I did the best I could. I figured if she lives through this, I can always fix it up. It is not as easy as you would think. I love my girl, and I’m seriously devastated.

Also what are the little tufts on him? He came from a low low end brackish tank, but has been in fresh water for like. 5 minutes

Help Request ramshorn’s growth

My main tank is full of tiny ramshorns, during a water change my syphone must’ve picked one up ( i don’t know how many weeks ago) and i used the old water in a bucket with old plants i’m using to cycle a sponge filter. Today i noticed for the first time the snail in the bucket and it was WAY bigger than the ones in my main tank.
Is that because in the bucket it had more food being the only snail?

Help Request Is a horned nerite snail (clithon) going to starve in this setup or will it be fine? Thanks, God bless!

Tank size: 25L

Other tank members: A colony of neocaridina shrimp. (Currently ~25, but there's 2 berried and 8+ saddled shrimp).

I feed Bacter AE every week.

Area for algae/biofilm:

-Driftwood,

-Lava rock,

-Catappa (Indian Almond) leaves,

-Alder cones,

-Pre-filter sponge 😭?

-Ambulia,

-Ludwigia super red,

-Salvinia and Amazon frogbit (not sure if I should add these or not, as I've heard they can slow down algae growth, so I would appreciate advice on this aswell).

-A carpet of pearlweed/marsilea hirsuta, (Haven't decided yet).

-3 Pots of anubias,

-2 cups of java moss,

-1 cup of Christmas moss,

-7 (yes, 7) Cryptocorynes wendtii brown,

-A couple of bucephalandras mini red.

Why I'm thinking the snail might starve even though it's smaller than the regular nerites, is because of the shrimp. Will they eat all the biofilm resulting in no food for the snail, or will they be fine together? A lot of area for biofilm and algae, but still want to be sure.

Thanks, God bless!

hi all! i recently got some jumbo mystery snails off facebook marketplace and added them to my planted tank (this is just a holding spot, they will soon have a snail jar of their own). they were all very active following acclimation and introduction to the tank but over a few hours they started to recluse into their shells.

its been about 10 hours now and all of them have either gone into their shells or have stayed at the top of the tank. i believe they’re all still alive but seem very lethargic.

any insight on the behavior change?

update: thank you for all the help! i should’ve done more research before taking them. i will be rehoming them!

Help Request What’s going on with my Mystery Snail :(

This is Abraxos. I’ve had him/her (not confirmed) since early June (for ease I will refer to him as him).

He’s in a 4ft (120 gallons/450 litres) heavily planted tank. There are other Mystery Snails who are all ok. About 3 or so days ago, I noticed he was super withdrawn into his shell, so put him in his own container in the tank. Everything on him looks shrunken, and I’m not sure what’s going on.

There is a regular rotation of veg, algae wafers, snello for food. Temp is about 26C, PH around 7.6, nitrite & ammonia 0 (I need to retest for KH etc).

Every time I look up, he’s climbing a tree or hanging to the underside of a leaf- I had no idea snails liked vertical adventures 😂

I had some mystery snails back in high school, but never out live plants in the tank- these guys seem to love crawling along the pothos and I’ve had no issues with leaf nibbling

Help Request Is he dead?

Ordered a mystery snail over the internet and it got here today! It was only in transit for a couple of days and only sat on my step for about an hour in the shade. Opened it up and it's very tucked into its shell and has feces piled onto its shell from being wrapped up. Did a smell test and am acclimating now.

Do you guys think he's okay as long as he passed the smell test? 🤞

(Tank photo and snails for fun)

I see a lot of people rave about it for keeping shrimp and snails, especially nerites who usually only eat algae and biofilm, but when I look at the ingredients, isn’t this stuff that a lot of regular foods (and probably also animal waste, decomposing plant matter, etc) already have? I get if it’s just convenient to dose, but I’m wondering if anyone who maybe knows a little more about the science behind how it works/how biofilm and microflora forms in an aquarium could enlighten me

Help Request Is this normal behaviour for a nerite snail? 🐌

Hi! I’m fairly new to the aquarium hobby and would appreciate some advice about my nerite snail.

I have a roughly 25L aquarium that was cycled for two months before I introduced 10 Neocaridina shrimp and one nerite snail about three weeks ago.

Since then, the nerite has been constantly moving around the tank, grazing on pretty much every surface it comes across, including the glass, substrate and rocks.

However, since yesterday, it’s been staying in the position you can see in the photo and video, seemingly digging into the substrate. Interestingly, I fed my shrimp a protein pellet in that exact spot yesterday. Could it be looking for food, or is this normal behaviour?

I’ve never seen it stay in one place for this long during these three weeks, so I got a little concerned. I’ve read that nerites can sometimes bury themselves, but I’d really appreciate hearing about other people’s experiences, especially from more experienced keepers.

Thanks in advance for any advice! 😊

At night, when my CO2 turns off an extra bubbler filter turns on that is full of coral and crushed coral instead of traditional filter media. The goal is to raise the pH high enough overnight that the CO2 drop during the daytime doesn't erode my snail shells. Tonight when I looked at the back to make sure my new timer worked I found 6 species of snails all hanging in that corner!

  1. Pagoda

  2. Japanese Trapdoor

  3. Faunus Ater, Cappuccino

  4. Was sold to me with my orange poso Tylomelania (not pictured) and was told it was a "purple" Tylomelania but I'm pretty sure it's just another Faunus Ater, Black Devil

  5. Blueberry

  6. Too small to see in photo - mini flat ramshorns x2

Help Request Why do some of my bladder snails have a different shaped shell?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Most of my bladder snails have oblong, smoothly spiraling shells. Then some, like on the right, have much more compact spirals. (I know its not age, because I have over a dozen new babies that look like the left)
