I don't think I've ever seen AT&T do so many different related changes in such a short time with a new plan: UYW 2.0 comes out, price changes for older UYW plans, adding Elite 2.0, making different plans be worth different promotional credits, and lowering prices on the brand new plans.
Since there have been so many changes to UYW in the last few months, I've created a new post as the old post had lots of comments/answers that aren't necessarily relevant (or true) any more.
The main differences:
Value 2.0 is cheaper than Starter SL in most new configurations (even with discounts?) as of the late-April increase and is prioritized for the first 5GB (but has less of hotspot). I think this is the only plan to have taken something away, so that might be why they changed the plan name.
Extra 2.0 has more prioritized data than previously (100GB vs. 75GB) and more hotspot (50GB vs. 30GB). It may cost more or less depending on your discounts and number of lines. This is probably most similar to older unlimited plans.
Premium 2.0 has a lot more hotspot than Elite EL or Premium PL (100GB vs. 50GB/60GB). If you need the hotspot, it's a great deal. You can also get a ½ price tablet or wearable line with this plan.
Elite 2.0 Includes everything Premium 2.0 has, but 250GB of hotspot, Turbo, free tablet line, free wearable line, and instead of International Day Pass (IDP), it looks like when you are international you'll get free calling/texting and 20GB of data (this last part is kind of limiting considering the other UYW plans data are unlimited, so I'm wondering if you can pay extra for more, otherwise it drops to 512Kbps, which is pretty slow). I'm assuming these free international countries are IDP countries. No Fan/Signature discounts on Elite 2.0. A few people reported their internet discount works with Elite 2.0.
ActiveArmor: Some 2.0 plans that come with ActiveArmor, only come with the standard, not advanced. Premium 2.0 can activate the advanced for free in your plan (I'm going to guess you can do the same with Elite 2.0). There is a free version and another version that is listed with "At no extra charge".
Standard price on non-phones: $20.99 per tablet, $20.99 per camera, $10.99 per wearable. If you have Premium 2.0, you can get one of these at ½ off. If you have one of these non-phone devices, it would probably make Premium 2.0 more cost effective for you (although the additional hotspot may max it so you don't need a line for your tablet). If you have Elite 2.0, then you get a tablet and wearable for no extra charge.
If you have HBO "free" with your current cellular plan and switch, or you change all your Elite EL lines over, you'll lose HBO. You need to compare how much you'd save to see if it matters.
The prices on the chart assume autopay/paperless/checking discounts. You need autopay/paperless for a $5 discount and autopay/paperless checking for a $10 discount (and as of now, the AT&T Citi card also qualifies as a checking discount). Add $5 or $10 to each line if you do not do these discounts.
There is no way anyone can help you compare the cost of the newer plan to the older plan if we don't know what discount you have, how manyphonelines, and which plan those lines are on.
Additional info on this plan can be found in this AT&T PDF.
DISCOUNTS:
Signature discount: Previously this got you Premium PL for the Price of Extra EL, but on the new plans it gets you 20% off the Premium 2.0 plan.
Appreciation discounts: You get a 25% discount on the older UYW plans if the account holder fits in one of these categories: teachers, doctors, nurses, military, veterans, and first responders. The newer plans are NOT 25% off, check the bottom of the chart as it varies per type of line. I'm not sure if these 2.0 discounts are supposed to include Healthcare and First Responders if you are not on FirstNet, but people are reporting that their plan says so. https://www.att.com/offers/discount-program/appreciation/
You did NOT lose (nor did it change) your 25% appreciation discount for Elite EL, Premium PL, Extra EL, and Starter SL, it's still 25% for those lines. AT&T made a mistake on a bill a couple months ago and gave you too big of a discount, the next cycle they corrected it (and let you keep the extra they took off) so it looks like you had a price increase. But if you look at the previous few bill totals, you can see it dip (for no reason, other than the mistake), and then it goes back up to where it has been for a few months. Obviously, I cannot see your bill, but everyone that I've talked to about this and has looked back on their bills (previous to the lower bill) has seen this is what it looks like. If you've made changes during those three months, it would be difficult to see by just looking at the totals.
For all discounts, the account needs to be in the name of the FAN/Signature holder.
AT&T Latin American roaming: Click these links for more info at https://www.att.com/support/article/wireless/KM1486292/
Please note that while the change plan comparison page (when logged in) shows that Elite 2.0 plan is not included, the Latin American roaming page specifically says it does and so does att.com/unlimited
Promotional phone credits warning: Not all plans have the same promotional deals like they use to. As always, please read the "offer details" before assuming your plan is eligible for full trade in credits. Also, please do the math to see if it's worth switching, paying $10 more a month for 36 months is $360, if it's not getting you more than $360 in credits, is it really worth switching to a more expensive plan. https://www.reddit.com/r/ATT/comments/1rsb36o/warning_a_value_20_line_may_or_may_not_cause/
I know this is a hot button topic. Making a megathread to give others a chance at getting unrelated threads seen as this has been the majority of the topics recently.
The moment the countdown hit zero at 5 AM, my cart went completely empty. Couldn’t get it working for another 30 mins despite trying different browsers, logging in/out, etc. Ended up with a Nov 9 -23 shipping window.
As someone with a software engineering background, tbh, this is pretty disappointing. Checked Chrome DevTools and saw failed requests to their backend cart service.
I get that preorder traffic can be crazy, but isn’t that what load testing is for? Even now we have AI….What’s the point of a waiting room if your backend can’t handle the traffic you’re letting in?
For a company the size of AT&T, they really should’ve done better.
I’ve never had a healthcare or anything like that on my phone before, but I pre-ordered the duo and I think it’s time. AT&T protection seems kind of expensive. The rep told me it was like 25 bucks a month. I think Apple cares 10. Why is AT&T so much more expensive and is it actually that much better?
I had the cart saved. They sent me an email that said “your cart was saved!” I could go to my cart and see the upgrade all ready to go. Then when the preorder begins, the checkout page reloads and empties my cart… says your cart is empty. Then the website went to a loading queue, and when it reloads it shows my cart empty still. What a fail. Luckily I also preloaded my cart on Apple so I pivoted quickly and was still able to get one.
Editing to clarify: this was right at launch at 5am PST. it seems like the site is loading now mostly normally? Mostly just really frustrated about the preloading cart situation.
The linked post describes it much better than I could, but the tl;dr is that you and ATT both agreed to arbitrate with AAA, under AAA rules.
ATT appears to intentionally not be complying with AAA rules in an attempt to force arbitration into a friendlier venue. It is likely that a court would consider this a violation of the arbitration agreement, allowing a lawsuit or class action to proceed. The AAA letter specifically says that under the AAA rules, the parties are free to go to court for resolution.
Obviously, if you have an issue consult with a lawyer, but this may be a window for those with claims who want to avoid the arbitration requirement to do just that, if they move quickly.
I still have the AT&T Unlimited Extra EL plan which they recently discontinued. I have five lines and it costs $30.74/mo per line with the autopay/paperless discount ($10), and healthcare worker discount (25%). The most similar plan among the newer plans is the Extra 2.0 plan which costs $29.75/mo. This Extra 2.0 plan gives a 15% discount but I read that 5 lines reduces the base price to $45/mo. It's like a dollar cheaper and it appears the only thing that changes is the AT&T ActiveArmorSM mobile security which drops from Advance to Standard. It doesn't seem like a super valuable feature to hang on to, is it? Even the Elite 2.0 plan offers Standard ActiveArmor security. That change for all the lines would save me about $5/month. Am I losing anything else like benefits or features by switching to the Extra 2.0 plan? Will that 25% vs 15% discount bite me later?
Second question: I just paid off two of my phones early in order to unlock them for travels abroad. I realized I could have just switched to the Elite 2.0 plan as it gives international data to qualifying countries in Europe, instead of paying those two phones off and buying a foreign eSIM. Water under the bridge now. My question..if I switch plans from my Extra EL to either Elite 2.0, Premium 2.0, or Extra 2.0, will I continue receiving my monthly credits? I would only choose one of those three plans. Also, I won't upgrade early and I won't cancel those line.
Here is the math I worked out: Current Plan: AT&T Unlimited Extra EL
Base Price (5 lines): $50.99
AutoPay & Paperless Discount: -$10.00
Standard Rate: $40.99
Nurses & Physicians Discount (25%): -$10.25 (25% of $40.99)
Final Monthly Cost: $30.74 per line
New Plan: AT&T Extra 2.0
Base Price (5 lines): $45.00 (AT&T's starting multi-line rate is cheaper for the new tier)
AutoPay & Paperless Discount: -$10.00
Standard Rate: $35.00
Nurses & Physicians Discount (15%): -$5.25 (15% of $35.00)
Hi I have 6 lines on my account on the original premium unlimited I was comparing to the premium 2.0 I was under the impression that it should be 40 dollars for the plan but the plan tool is showing that it would be 36 is that accurate or a glitch.
i ordered an iphone 17pr end of september. the guy at the store said it should ship in two days and that just has not been the case. been two weeks now and today was the last day estimated to ship but it still says “Preparing to ship.” called and got in touch with an agent who basically said “technically” they have till the 19th this month and to “please be patient with them.”
i was intentional with getting the 17pr because i don’t really care to have the latest and greatest gen (been riding with a 13PM the past 5 years and had no issue up until battery degraded and charging port started failing) and i wanted a lower monthly payment. you would think it’d be smooth sailing getting what’s technically considered old gen once the 18 came out. curious if anyone is in the same boat waiting on a 17
Went from ordered to preparing to ship to preordered? iPhone duo. Also I just changed my contact email since the old one is unreachable, how do I get a reconfirmation email sent to the new email?
We moved one line from Verizon to AT&T last month when the 18 came out so my husband could get that, and I wanted to wait to transfer the second line until the Duo was released.
I went to preorder this morning and add a line, and had everything prepped and ready to go in advance, and it was asking for a $1300 down payment even though we have phenomenal credit. Doesn’t make sense to do that with the promos that are available. I’m assuming the down payment was because of how new our account is.
By the time I went to create a separate account under my name, shipping dates were into January 😭
We called and spoke with an agent, who told us that while we would need a down payment due to the new account, we could open a second account (under my name) and then combine them later, and I wouldn’t need a down payment.
I asked them about a shipping date and he said it would be shipped by the 23rd at the latest.👀 This was told to me at 5:30pm central. I have a hard time believing that it’s actually going to be shipped that early, especially based on the online ordering estimates.
What's the purpose of having us do a "get ready" cart just for me to wait on the checkout page and watch it countdown for 15 minutes and then it says shopping cart empty? Still can't get in to order the Duo. Neither through the app or website, this is completely ridiculous. Yall are a multi billion dollar company, do better!!!
So for giggles I popped on AT&T to check out the Duo pre-order. I was planning on eventually ordering, but was surprised to see they would allow me to make a $216 payment to upgrade early. My upgrade will be “vested” in March. The $216 equals the next 5 payments. I thought what the heck I’ll upgrade early. Got to checkout and saw that delivery would not be until mid-December, so 2 months from now. In December I’ll only have 3 payments left. Would they refund some of the $216 since I won’t be getting the phone 5 months early? I’ve never done the Next Up before so I have no experience. My original plan was to wait until March so will most likely do that. I tried chatting with ATT but the wait was going to be over an hour. Anyone experience a similar situation and how did it go?
Due to the chaotic mess of the pre-order I didn’t see that I had my old address from before the military. Do I just now intercept it from the carrier whenever I get the shipping number? AT&T told me they can’t change it without canceling the order and I’m not doing that.
Just curious, I have yet to see any ATT orders that will be delivered on the 23rd.
I was on the site and after a bunch of nonsense was able to place my order and below are the dates I received - text confirmation said I placed it at 8:09. I've seen the same dates from several other people but was curious if anyone got an estimated delivery for the 23rd forward?
I dont think I have had a positive experience with AT&T in years. I see they have some cool features for preorderimg the new iphone, so I decided to put off switching to Verizon by one phone cycle.
Holy shit I was tricked! They literally just fucked everyone by saying the cart was saved.
I think what I am most upset about is that, like everything else, AT&T will say “oops” and then make no effort to do anything better or rectify the situation. They just lied to millions of consumers advertising a software feature that did not exist. Oops!
I know it’s probably a dumb question, but does anyone have any insight as to whether there will be a separate stock of inventory for the iPhone duo on launch day in ATT stores? Are people going to be lining up at the stores??
I’m curious what storage capacity everyone chooses when upgrading their iPhone through AT&T.
Did you go for 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB or 2tb.
Do you find the extra storage worth paying for, or is 256GB enough with iCloud?
Also, how long do you typically keep your iPhone before upgrading?
Would love to hear what everyone uses and why.
I feel like I was given some incorrect information today from an agent I had spoken with over the phone. I want to call and speak to another agent tomorrow to verify whether my account reflects what the agent told me.
That being said, I’m trying to find the most reliable department to talk with, if there’s a way to bypass the general customer service/support agents and get to a higher department or supervisors.
Just want to preface this by saying that obviously the Duo is probably higher demand than the 17 devices or anything in the past, but I’ve done this process the last few preorders and was always able to preorder even before 8am ET.
First, I always use a laptop/desktop. Screw the mobile apps, ATT’s included.
Second, the Duo was the first time I’ve seen the “pre order save” option, but I know lots of people had their carts empty this morning. I did not have my cart emptied with this method (even though I got oct 26-nov 6 delivery like everyone else).
So like I mentioned in the title, always use privacy mode in chrome, Firefox or safari. Sign in to your att account before the preorder and keep it open. Then as the time gets closer, start refreshing the page around 7:55am. I saw the check out button at 7:58am and paid all the dues (taxes and stuff) to my account and had my order processed quickly.
Every preorder I’ve done for the last 5 years has gone the same way (I have 5 lines on my account so I order a phone pretty much every year for family). Hopefully this helps someone in the future!
