Just frustrated… like I searched this tag for a reason don’t play with me

Hello! I'm a rarepair writer from a big/popular fandom who recently posted my first fic for a huge ship (different fandom but I've been part of this fandom for 20+ years). I write for self-indulgence, so jumping from a few dozen hits to over 1,000 overnight was a surprise.

​A regular guest commenter who used to leave lovely, detailed reviews has started doing the following over the last two chapters:

• ​Comparing my worldbuilding to a popular fandom fanon/AU reference I’ve never read. My fic is an Alternate Dimension/Time Travel/Canon-divergent story with my own political twists to fit the plot.

• ​Complaining that a character's back story is "out of canon," prefaced with "I'm not trying to criticize your writing but...."

• ​Telling me what needs to happen in the next chapter so the story "makes sense."

​Coming from a small, quiet fandom rarepair space, I've never dealt with backseat writing before. I think I’m feeling overwhelmed by both this commenter's plot demands and the general pressure of having a much larger audience waiting for updates. Despite being in both fandoms for 10+ & 20+ years, I didn't spend all those years writing, (I'm a reader most of it 😅) and only got into it when I saw the lack of fics for my rarepair. So I'm still fairly new in this massive & beautiful world of writing fan fics.

​How do you gently boundary-check (or handle) readers like this? And how do you cope with the sudden pressure of writing for a massive ship? Thank you so much in advance, I appreciate it! ☺️

I'm trying to get myself to actually read first person fanfiction by telling myself it's just like reading a physical book BECAUSE IT IS! I don't know why I distain it so much 🥀 I'll see how it goes

So, a dream of mine is to find the groove to create more long fics. Multi chapter, at least five digit words, interesting things that I can just sit and relax and write for a long time.

As of now, my longest fic is 10 chapters and 30k words. I have so many that are half started in my drafts that I can't seem to figure out what to do with.

I don't know what to do :(. My first long fic was completed because I detailed a quick outline that I wanted to be ten chapters. It was so easy to figure everything out and then I was able to write the first 6 chapters in just a week. (The last four took me a few months because I got busy with life, but I was still writing them.)

I'm usually a one shot author typically. So I think my experience is more tied to coming up with quick scene ideas or writing work that is under 5k. I have written one shots that are 10k+ with basic outlines and those have been really fun and I have also added chapters to one shots after people have asked for a sequel, so I know it's possible for me to write something longer or to come up with ideas.

Idk, I just can't find the idea spark. I don't know what questions to ask myself to turn a simple idea into a complex one. I don't know how to make the middle part just as interesting as the beginning or the ending I have planned.

Any advice would be appreciated, please 🥺

The short version is that I’m making an OC who serves as a masked assistant/secretary to the main character of the Fic. For his own safety, (or more accurately, paranoia) the OC wears a mask that fully conceals his face around anyone besides the main character. The OC outwardly acts polite and almost robotic most of the time, but his actual unguarded personality is actually fairly snarky and condescending.

Considering has lack of visible facial expressions and polite facade, I’m having trouble getting his personality to come through during most of his interactions without relying heavily on showing his inner monologue. Does anyone have any suggestions or good examples for applicable body language?

I’m also happy to do some reading if anyone has some good examples. Also happy to talk about my story or characters if any additional info would help.

I hadnt written something for so long since i as eleven and writing fanfics for miraculous, and this time its whole AU, so like its very different. I did post twice before, but i didnt have a betareader then, and the two works were in original work.

I really wasn't expecting to find much by searching for a HTTYD AU of Irondad and spiderson, but the universe proved me wrong. Still I long for an update.

I really want to write a cyberpunk au but my tech knowledge is literally zero, I would love to know how other writers are able to pull it off.

So I once read this Rottmnt fic a few years ago. It was about how after the invasion, Donatello had some means tissue still in his shell and he locked himself inside his lab to try to either study himself or figure out how to remove it, but the tentacles bursted out of his shell before he could stop it and his brothers found him after he passed out from the pain.

I really want to find it again but I can’t remember what tags I used to find it. So if you know what I’m talking about, please help me.

Hello Ao3 readers! I am trying to find a specific fanfiction from the TV Show Suits (Harvey/Mike) that I read on Ao3 but now I cannot find it unfortunately. I hope the author hasn't taken it down.

The basic premise of this fic was that Harvey gets anonymous threats from someone. I believe it was from either a client or from the opposing client that Harvey went against. The person sends threats by sending photos of Harvey (I think they sent folders to the office) and having a gun mark drawn on Harvey's head. Mike and Donna keep telling him to take this seriously, report it, and tell Jessica about it. Harvey does not take it seriously and thinks they won't actually do anything to hurt him.

Fast forward to some later time, Mike and Harvey are exiting a courthouse after a case (that they won ofc lol) and they are standing on the stairs just outside on the street. They are talking and I think they decide to go get a hotdog as celebration?? (LMAO my memory is bad). Just as they're about to leave, Mike notices something from the corner of his eye like something shining (it's a gun!) and he steps in front of Harvey to shield him and gets shot. Then the ambulance arrives and hospital scene happens.

But this is the most I remember!!! Please help me find this fic, it was so good, I NEED TO READ IT AGAIN. If anyone knows what this fic is, that would be great. Thank you guys.

Basically, when I try to use commas to separate the tags that I'm searching, the website instead just adds a comma to my search. This is not the same thing as inputing multiple tags, and seems to instead be treated as one big tag (that can't actually exist, because tags are separated by commas)

I've tried using different keyboards (FUMO and the standard Samsung keyboards), I've tried copy-pasting the tags into the search bar, and I've tried these things on multiple browsers (Chrome, Firefox, DuckDuckGo, and Samsung Browser). Even the couple unofficial apps I've tried have this issue as well

I'm aware that suggested tags exist, and they do work. However, I want to be able to search with unsuggested tags, and this isn't an issue I've had on any PCs or iOS devices. I looked at the known issues page, and it didn't seem to mention my current issue. I also tried looking through this subreddit to see if anyone else had this same question, and while I did find a couple posts, the suggestions from the comments didn't help me out

If anyone has an answer to this problem, I would really appreciate the help

Hello! we're currently working on a fanventure for homestuck, and one of our characters switches color every other word, is there a way to automatically format that, or would we need to do it manually?

I want to start writing stuff on AO3, but pretty soon I'm going to start applying to jobs and stuff. I'm already using two different emails for professional and private stuff as you can imagine and am aware that the chances of people finding my future stories is pretty low, but still a little worried. I may or may not start diving a little bit into dead dove territory, so I'm kinda scared they'll somehow manage to find that considering how people outside the Ao3 community react to that kinda thing. I don't want to ruin my future over fanfics lol 😭

Give me some random scenarios or tropes that i can write into gay fanfiction. I have so many ideas im just at a mental block atm and i really want to write.
