AI-generated content has been a persistent issue that moderators have dealt with historically and continue to address. Some accounts are either hacked or created specifically to post such content to this subreddit.

We've made substantial changes behind the scenes to reduce this behavior. However, despite these efforts, we're unable to fully eliminate such posts without negatively affecting the posting and commenting experience for legitimate users.

To address this more directly, we are introducing a new rule: AI-generated and karma-farming posts are explicitly prohibited on this subreddit.

If you suspect a post is AI-generated, fabricated, or created to farm karma (e.g., contradictions in the user's post history, repeated content across subreddits, etc.), please report it by clicking the three dots at the top of the post or sending us a message via mod mail.

AIO : made my date leave right after hooking up

I (27f) have been going on dates with this guy (27m) the past few weeks and really have had the best time with him, but after this I don’t know if I can see him the same way.

During sex, he started asking to take off the condom “just for a second.” I’m not on birth control, told him I was ovulating, and also just prefer safe sex. I’ve also previously told him that I had a big fear of getting pregnant, plus I just began seeing him and don’t know his sexual health. He’s told me a few days ago that he was talking to 2 other girls which is completely fine, we’re both single. However, the fact that he started begging to take it off makes me feel like he has unsafe sex with other women which is a risk I don’t want to take.

I told him it was a bad idea since I’m ovulating, tried being playful saying “we should be good”. I didn’t want to completely kill the mood, however after he asked the 4th or 5th time I gave a firm “No”, no playing around or trying to sound nice anymore. By then I was so turned off, seeing a fully grown man whining and pleading when I was very obviously uncomfortable.

Then he said he “couldn’t take it anymore” and took it off himself. I just went stiff and quiet, after a minute or so I got a new condom and unwrapped it and he insisted to “just wait a few more seconds”. He ended up not letting me put a new one on.

I felt totally disrespected and used in that moment. And now I’m absolutely terrified of pregnancy and potentially contracting an std. The fact that he could even get off while I was stiff as a board, said no, and was obviously uncomfortable honestly disgusts me. The nice guy facade completely broke for me and I just feel so stupid.

Shortly after he asked if I was okay, and I told him he should probably leave. I told him how I felt and that it wasn’t okay, that if we had sex again we needed to discuss very clear boundaries, etc. I mostly wanted him to leave so that he wasn’t stuck here while I was upset, and I could process the situation without overreacting. He was very apologetic and said he felt like an absolute asshole and beating himself up. I ended up apologizing for making it a big deal and told him he could stay but he was obviously upset and left. But I’m not sure if I was actually overreacting.

It felt like we really had connected on a deep level, like right as we met it felt so natural as if we’d known each other for years. He seemed so kind and respectful, and showed genuine effort from the jump. It’s honestly been a while since I’ve felt so comfortable with a person. Which is why I’m conflicted on how I handled the situation. Did I ruin everything over one little thing?

AIO for considering ending my relationship? [UPDATE]

Post image
94 Upvotes

Quite a bit has happened since I last posted in here, but I won’t get into that. Long story short, I took space from him for a few days, then he went and texted me this. I responded explaining how I basically felt like my feelings weren’t really important, and that I was done with him.

After that, I blocked his number, and then blocked him on all social media platforms I had him added on.

To be honest, I don’t really feel sad. I feel… relieved, I guess?

AIO: My friend’s boyfriend wants to have a 3some with me.

I originally posted this in R/relationships and it got taken down and I was told to post it here instead, so here I am.

I (18F) am friends with Amanda (19F) and have been for about five years now. We met in freshman year of high school and quickly became best friends due to overlapping classes and similar interests.

For some background context, Amanda was dating a guy she met through a mutual friend, lets call him Rick (18M), throughout most of our friendship. He lived in another state at the time and they only met up a handful of times, but she was head over heels for him. Unfortunately, senior year I found some evidence he was cheating on her with another girl and reported it to Amanda. The evidence turned out to be true and caused a whole blow up in their relationship. They decided to stay together, but we caught Rick cheating on Amanda with the same girl two more times before he finally ended up breaking up with Amanda, which left her in a really bad mental state.

Recently, Amanda has started seeing Josh (30M), who she met through a dating app not too long after this whole ordeal, and has begun living with him after leaving a rather nasty living situation with her own family.
The issue arises because recently, when I went over to Amanda’s house, she shared some information with me.

Talking about her relationship and how things were going, Amanda shared with me that Josh had admitted to her that it was on his “Bucket List” to have a threesome with her and another girl. In the process of trying to convince Amanda, make it seem more appealing, or whatever other reason, I’m not entirely sure, he brought up MY* *name as an option for their third.

Amanda did make sure to clarify with me that she was not comfortable with having a threesome with me and Josh whatsoever, and furthermore was not comfortable with having a threesome at ALL for that matter. She let me know that she shut it down and Josh didn’t push further, but also had inadvertently mentioned this wasn’t his first time bringing it up either.

At the time I kinda just brushed it off since that was that, but the more I think about it, the more uncomfortable I am just thinking about it. Josh is almost a decade older than me and I have no attraction to him whatsoever. Furthermore, I’m in my own relationship (with someone my age) and I’m perfectly happy where I am. I have no desire whatsoever to have a threesome with either of them, but I also can’t get the idea that he thought about me in that way out of my head. It makes my skin prickle.

Am I overreacting? And is there any advice on how I can go about this?

AIO for refusing to babysit my sister’s kids after she embarrassed me in front of our family?

• Upvotes

I’m 23F, and I’m starting to feel like my family sees me as a free babysitter rather than a person with my own life.

My older sister, 31F, has two kids and regularly asks me to watch them. I love my niece and nephew, so I usually say yes when I can. The problem is that she rarely asks in advance. Sometimes she’ll text me an hour before she needs to leave and act like I’m obligated to drop everything.

Last weekend, we had a family dinner. In front of everyone, she joked that I’m lucky I don’t have responsibilities and that babysitting is probably the most productive thing I do with my time.

Everyone laughed. I was embarrassed, but I didn’t want to start an argument, so I stayed quiet.

The next day, she texted me asking if I could watch the kids on Saturday. I told her I already had plans and couldn’t do it.

She immediately got angry and said I was being petty over a harmless joke. Then she told our mom that I was punishing her and the children because I couldn’t take a little teasing.

Now my mom is saying I should let it go because my sister has a lot on her plate. I explained that I’m not angry about one joke as much as I’m tired of my time being treated like it doesn’t matter.

I work, pay my own bills, and have things I’m trying to accomplish, too. Being single doesn’t mean I’m available whenever someone needs a favor.

I haven’t agreed to babysit this weekend, and honestly, I don’t feel bad about it. But my family is making me question whether I’m taking this too personally.

AIO for refusing to babysit after my sister embarrassed me, or should I have just ignored the comment and helped her anyway?

AIO to my huband's relationship with his ex

• Upvotes

My (26f) husband (26m) has an ex who is currently living with his sister, we have had issues of boundaries being crossed with this ex early on in our relationship, not cheating just messages and her saying she wants to get back together with him. After this the communication was cut off, fast forward now, he has unblocked her and said its in case of an emergency with his sister that this ex might need to reach him. Then he was doing something at their house on the weekend and lied and said no one was home, made a whole story but the sister was out, the ex was home..

I should add I am also 25 weeks pregnant with his baby.

AIO for making my little sister work off the damage she caused to my bathtub after she lied about it?

My little sister (16) came over to stay the night about a week ago after dyeing her hair, and the hair dye ended up EVERYWHERE in my bathroom. The bathtub was stained bright purple from top to bottom, and it also got in the sink, on the walls, and on the floor. I didn’t even include pictures of the walls and floor because I already had enough pictures showing how bad the tub and sink were. It genuinely got everywhere.

The problem is that she had HOURS to tell me about it. I dropped her off at her friend’s birthday sleepover around 5–6 PM. When I got home and discovered the bathtub, it was already around 9 PM. She hadn’t said a single word to me about what had happened. I even messaged her and told her that I would have come to pick her up so she could clean it, but I didn’t want to deal with her complaining about having to do it at midnight. I wasn’t expecting her to magically fix everything without help, but I did expect her to be honest with me and take some responsibility.

When I saw her again, I told her she would be staying with me for the weekend to work off the damage by completing a chore list. I wanted her to understand that when you damage someone else’s property, especially when that person is renting, you have to take responsibility for it. I called her and told her, “I’m staring at the bathtub, and I need to ask you something, so don’t lie to me.”She scoffed and laughed. When I asked if she had tried to clean it, she told me, “Well, it was already like that, and I did try.”

That answer made me even more upset because she had plenty of opportunities to tell me what happened, and instead, I had to discover it myself and confront her about it. Now, here’s where I might be overreacting. She came over Friday, and it’s now Sunday. I have repeatedly asked her to complete things on the chore list, and she has barely done anything. When I confronted her about it, she said it wasn’t her mess, so she wasn’t going to clean anything on the list.

Except the entire reason she’s here is to make up for the damage she caused! I gave her two options: she can work off the damage by completing the chores I assigned, or she can get a job and repay the $550 security deposit that could potentially be at risk because of the damage. If she chooses the money option, I’m not planning to keep it. I would hold it until she had paid the full amount, minus around $20 for cleaning supplies. Once the full amount was accounted for, she would get the money back. I’ve already spent more than that trying to clean the tub myself.

I’m not trying to profit off my little sister. I want her to understand that her actions have consequences, that lying by omission is still dishonest, and that refusing to take responsibility doesn’t make the problem disappear. I called our mom to explain what was happening. My mom told me that this was my responsibility to handle and that she wasn’t going to get involved. She also said that it was inappropriate for me to make my sister do this.

For context, my mom and I have a difficult relationship, and I often disagree with how she handles things. I’m trying not to let that influence how I see this situation, though. My sister is genuinely a good kid, and I don’t think she’s a terrible person over this. I just think she needs to learn that if you damage something, you own up to it and help make things right.

For additional context, my sister is 16, so she’s not a little kid who doesn’t understand consequences. I don’t expect her to be perfect, and I understand that accidents happen. What bothers me is that she had hours to tell me what happened, didn’t disclose it, and then acted like it wasn’t her responsibility when I confronted her.

I’ve included pictures of the bathtub and the chore list I gave her because I want people to judge the situation fairly. If the chore list is excessive, I’m open to hearing that. But I also feel like, at 16, she should understand that damaging someone else’s property means you have to help make it right.

So, Reddit, am I overreacting? Is making her complete chores to make up for the damage a reasonable consequence, or am I being too harsh by expecting her to work it off when she doesn’t want to?

EDIT: I have been able to get the tub clean, I’ve tried an array of different chemicals and it wasn’t until a friend had mentioned mold and mildew spray. I’m not upset about the staining, it’s the principle to me. She won’t take responsibility for it. She knew ahead of time before coming over that she would be working off the damage, and it’s been two days already without doing anything.

ALSO EDIT: as I stated above, she has TWO options, either chores list or get a job and pay the security deposit. As to which I’m NOT keeping. It’s the principle behind it, working to pay off the damages. YES I’ve gotten it clean AFTER paying a lot of money into getting it clean. I have inspections at my apartment and I NEEDED it cleaned before then. My sister lives with our mother, I raised her growing up as my mother wouldn’t. Our mother is financially independent now so she has my sister. I do NOT.

Another edit: Jesus Christ people 😂 I can’t “make” a child do anything. We have a great relationship as well. Some of you trying to turn this into me resenting her for having a better childhood than what I did is a FAR reach. I don’t, I’m very proud of our mother for doing better. Do I think she could be doing other things? Yes. Some have very strong opinions on things that they don’t know anything about.

AIO to my best friend kicking me out of her house

Me (F24) and my best friend (F24) have sleepovers often at her place.
For context she lives a bit far and because of our circumstances it’s easier for me to go visit her rather than vise versa.
We never specified that I would sleep over today but I assumed travelling 3 hours on public transport would be a given for me to be sleeping over.
We hung out for a couple of hours until she started seeing me out. I told her I thought this was going to be a sleepover and that I wouldn’t have travelled late at night if I knew I’d have to travel back home after.
She told me she wanted her space and insinuated I’d have to find my own way home.
I ended up being able to find my way home but I’m feeling bitter about the situation. Im thinking of distancing myself from her. Am I wrong for expecting her to allow me to stay?

They called someone else their other half AIO

For context my partner is (22) and I am (24), we have been dating for almost 2 years and they are bisexual. My partner posted a picture with their friend while on vacation captioned something about their friend being their other half. I was raised very much to see that phrase as a deeply romantic phrase, meant only for your husband or wife. I went ahead and let them know that I wasn’t really comfortable with them saying something with such a romantic meaning, I didn’t ask them to take it down or anything. It very much was just me saying I was always taught that the phrase has a certain meaning and letting them know that it just rubbed me the wrong way. When I let them know how it made me feel they just told me that not the meaning they intend and that it just feels really controlling. Keep in mind, they are on a vacation states away, while I am home working. If I was controlling, I wouldn’t really have been okay with them going on this vacation without me. Afterwards they just kept saying they don’t view it that was, and I would continue to tell them I’m just not super comfortable with them referring to other people using such intimate phrasing, and that generally it is considered an intimate phrase. I see it more as me setting a relatively minuscule boundary and they just refuse to see it my way. All I’m asking is they don’t refer to their friends using such intimate phrasing. It didn’t really spiral into and argument or anything, but I can tell that they really don’t like me putting up that boundary. Am I overreacting?

AIO or this controlling ? Cousin won’t let his girlfriend spend time with me at a Halloween event . He said I need single friends to go with

It’s a Halloween event circus Carnival type thing going on
I invited my cousin girlfriend . We have developed a great friendship throughout the past couple of years . I honestly love her ! She’s super sweet and always gives me a big hug when I see her . She said she wanted to come and she was upset because my cousin told her no that’s it’s for single people . I was like “ it’s not like I’m taking her to a club . It’s just a fun Halloween activity . I don’t understand why you are telling her no.” And she’s 25. He is 25. They live together. They aren’t married yet but she is crazy about him and he seems crazy in love with her . When I asked my cousin he was like “ absolutely not appropriate for a woman in a relationship.”
I have single friends but I wanted to share the experience with her in particular

AIO for deciding to go ditch my best friends birthday party and not answering their texts?

I am really not good with words, so I will just write down whatever and hope you guys understand me. Saturday was my childhood best friend’s birthday party. He turned 30, so it was quite a big birthday.

The party was going well. He introduced me to some of his new work friends. We were having fun, and then he started getting drunk. I don’t know how to put it, but he was all... “alpha male.” Like poking fun at a guy who had recently gotten married for being whipped, making comments about women, etc. Then we went out to the garden where the beers were, and they just started doing stupid shit. Like one guy chipped his tooth trying to open a beer bottle with it. And worse things. I did not wanna do any of this, and then I started getting booed and called all sorts of variations of coward, etc. They started pushing me around in a circle, all laughing. I managed to wiggle free and made an excuse about going to the toilet.

His gf saw I was quite stressed and invited me to sit with them (a few of the other gfs and two of her own friends). I was just planning to sit there, eat some bread, sober up, wait for the cake cutting and then bounce. But along the way I actually got involved in the conversation and had a better time than I’d had all night, if that makes sense. I tried some of the pink spritz or whatever. I did not like it, but I ate the berries.

Then my friend came back in and the atmosphere felt horrible. I stood up to get a soda, and he followed me into the kitchen with another of his friends, and they wanted to force me to drink some disgusting-looking scotch thing. Like literally holding me by the neck and putting the glass to my lips. I drank a sip and just spat it into the sink. That was the last straw for me, and while they were dicking around somewhere else, I told his gf thanks but I was bouncing, and I just left to take the train.

I came to the conclusion that this is not for me. I had a thousand times better time with the women and actually felt at peace, more than with my so-called friends. I don’t know what changed, or if maybe I changed, but this was one of the top ten most uncomfortable evenings of my life, and I do not want to be friends with people like that. I don’t even remember the last time I talked to him or he asked me about my life. Same with all the other friends there. Like, I know their favorite players and the crazy stories and stuff, but I did not even know one of them was engaged?

Anyway, I started getting texts from all of them saying it was messed up that I just Irish goodbyed them and that it was traitor behaviour, and my friend is majorly pissed. I answered him about the points I brought up here, and he said I was majorly overreacting, said I could have just said I did not want to (which I did!), that it was my fault for not pulling through, and that that is just who he is. So I did not respond to them anymore.

AIO for leaving and wanting to end the friendship?

AIO for installing security cameras after my neighbor kept using my driveway?

The problem started with the family next door.

At first, they'd pull into the edge of my driveway for a minute while unloading groceries. It didn't bother me much, so I ignored it. Then it turned into parking there for 10 or 15 minutes while they switched cars.I politely asked if they could stop because I sometimes needed to leave unexpectedly for work. They apologized and said it wouldn't happen again. It kept happening. One afternoon I was already running late when I found their SUV completely blocking half my driveway. I knocked on their door, but nobody answered. I ended up waiting almost 30 minutes before they finally moved it.After that, I installed two security cameras facing my driveway and front yard.A few days later, my neighbor confronted me, saying I was "spying" on their family and making the neighborhood uncomfortable. I explained that the cameras only covered my property and were there because of the parking issue. Now they've started telling other neighbors that I'm the "crazy camera lady."The strange part is that another neighbor quietly thanked me because they said the same family had been cutting across their yard too.I haven't shared any footage online or reported them anywhere. The cameras are just recording my own property.

Some people think I escalated things by installing cameras instead of trying to talk to them againSo, AIO?

My mother told me I'd deserve it if my future husband beat me and I don't know how to process this, AIO?

I recently had an argument with my mother that genuinely broke my heart.

It started when I was discussing a traditional religious ritual associated with seeking forgiveness for supposed transgressions related to menstruation. I told my mother I disliked it and remembered attending one when I was around 13-14, wondering why I had to participate in something that made me feel like I'd done something wrong.

My mother disagreed with my views, and the conversation escalated. She felt I was personally attacking her beliefs and calling her conservative. But what happened afterward was what really hurt me.

She started telling me that if I behaved this way with my future in-laws, they might beat me and kick me out. She has made similar comments before, essentially warning me that people won't tolerate my behaviour the way my family does. I told her I'm not planning on getting married, but then I asked her something: if I did get married and my husband beat me, would she support me?

She said no. She said I'd deserve it.

I asked her repeatedly whether she actually meant that or was just saying it out of anger. She repeatedly said that she meant it, that I would deserve it if I kept picking fights and failed to get along with people.

She explained that if a woman argues back when a man scolds her, the situation could escalate, and that this could be avoided if she simply got along with him. She even brought up my father, saying that if he scolded her and she started arguing back, she couldn't entirely blame him if he hit her. My father isn't like that at all btw, but she also mentioned some male relatives and their hypothetical future wives, suggesting that disagreements could lead to those men hitting their wives, too.

I tried explaining that disagreeing with someone doesn't justify violence. What if I were doing nothing wrong except expressing an opinion or refusing to be treated like a maid? Would I deserve to be beaten then, too?

Her response was essentially that I should learn to get along with people, be positive, and be strong enough to handle things myself. She kept saying that I could avoid these situations if I stopped picking fights. When I asked what she would do if I came back to her after being abused, she said she couldn't do anything and that I'd have to deal with it myself.

The domestic violence part of this argument was particularly frustrating. My mother insisted that domestic violence happens in villages rather than modern families. She asked how I would even know about it, since I spend so much time on my phone reading things like this, and implied that I was living in my head and creating problems that hadn't happened.

I tried explaining that domestic violence happens everywhere, including in Western countries like the US, which people here often regard as more modern and progressive. It's not exclusive to villages or traditional households. Traditional gender roles and patriarchal attitudes can contribute to abuse, but being from a modern, educated family doesn't automatically make someone incapable of it.

Someone can come from a traditional family and still be a genuinely good person who respects their partner and would never hit them. Someone else can come from a supposedly modern family and still be abusive. Being traditional doesn't automatically make someone abusive, just as being modern doesn't automatically make someone respectful. Ultimately, a person's background doesn't guarantee how they'll treat their partner.

My point was that you cannot guarantee your safety by simply being agreeable and avoiding disagreements. You could do everything right and still end up with someone abusive. And even if you do end up with a good person, that doesn't mean you should have to suppress every opinion or disagreement just to keep the peace. My mother, however, kept insisting that these situations could be avoided if I learned to get along with people instead of picking fights. She said she gets along with everyone and is happy because she doesn't behave the way I do.

I couldn't understand how she could acknowledge that men might hit their wives while simultaneously placing so much responsibility on the women to prevent it. Why is the solution always for women to be more agreeable, more accommodating, more positive, and more willing to tolerate things? Why isn't the responsibility placed on the person who chooses to use violence?

I wasn't saying that I planned to argue with everyone I met or that I wanted to create conflict in a future marriage. I was questioning why expressing an opinion or disagreeing with someone was being treated as a potential justification for violence.

What made everything worse was how she treated me when I became upset.

She repeatedly called me crazy, mentally ill, a psycho, and mentally messed up. She said my mind was in a dark place and suggested I was bringing this up because I was mentally unwell. She said I needed mental help and that there was something wrong with me for bringing this up and continuing to argue about it. She repeatedly brought up the fact that I was on my period, suggesting I was picking fights because I was menstruating. At one point, she even said I was dangerous and might physically hurt her or someone else someday. I don't think she genuinely believed I was going to harm anyone like that, but hearing my own mother say those things about me was still upsetting. Being called these things isn't new to me, but that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt obv.

When I started crying after hearing my own mother tell me all that, she asked why I was crying and why I was seeking sympathy. She told me I needed to be strong instead of sitting there crying.

It's absurd to me because she could say all these deeply hurtful things to me, question my sanity, and suggest that I deserved to be abused. But if I cried because of what she said, I was weak and seeking sympathy?

I don't understand why my feelings are treated as a problem when I'm hurt by something she says, while her own feelings are treated as completely legitimate when she feels hurt by something I say.

I understand that she felt personally attacked during the original discussion. I understand that she was angry. But I DONT understand why her being hurt justifies everything she said afterward, while my being hurt is apparently evidence that something is wrong with me.

The reason this has affected me so much is that I've always believed my mother would have my back.

She has been a present mother. She isn't someone who has been entirely absent or uncaring throughout my life. She's educated, grew up in a relatively progressive household, and had a working mother at a time when that was less common. I've always thought of her as a strong woman.

I know that none of those things automatically makes someone free of patriarchal beliefs. I'm not saying that she's been a bad mother or that everything she's ever done for me means nothing now.

But I genuinely thought that if something terrible happened to me, especially something like domestic violence, she'd support me, no questions asked. I thought that even if I made mistakes, even if I was difficult to get along with, even if I disagreed with people, she'd still care about my safety.

That belief has now been shaken.

I keep thinking that maybe she was just angry. Maybe she doubled down because admitting she was wrong would have felt like losing the argument. Maybe she was trying to warn me about the reality of the world in her own misguided way.

But I also keep coming back to the fact that I asked her multiple times whether she meant what she was saying, and she repeatedly said yes. She repeatedly told me that I would deserve it and that she wouldn't support me.

I don't want to invent a more comforting interpretation of her words just because accepting them hurts. Maybe she would act differently if something actually happened to me. I genuinely hope I'll never have to find out. But how am I supposed to know that she'll support me when she explicitly told me the opposite?

People often say that they're your parents and that you shouldn't take everything they say to heart. But how am I not supposed to take this to heart? How am I supposed to hear my own mother tell me that I deserve to be beaten and then simply move on because she's my mother?

I know this was a hypothetical situation. I know I haven't actually been abused by a husband or in-laws. But the question wasn't really about predicting my future. It was about whether my mother believes I deserve support if someone hurts me.

I don't expect her to solve every problem in my life. I wasn't asking her to handle a divorce, a legal case, or every practical consequence of a hypothetical abusive marriage. I was asking whether she would support me if someone hurt me, and she said no.

I regret bringing up the topic sometimes, because before this argument, I was confident that if nobody else had my back, my mother would, my parents would. I could have continued believing that without ever having to confront the possibility that she might not.

I don't know what to think anymore. I can acknowledge that my mother has been a good parent in many ways while also being deeply disturbed by what she said. I can understand that she might have been angry without pretending that her words didn't mean anything.

TLDR, I argued with my mother about a traditional religious practice, and the conversation escalated to her telling me I'd deserve to be beaten by a future husband and that she wouldn't support me if it happened. I asked her repeatedly if she meant it, and she said yes. She's generally been a good, present mother, so hearing this from her has really shaken my trust in her. I'm struggling to process it and wondering if I'm overreacting.

Am I overreacting to this? I feel like I'm actually going crazy, maybe mom was correct.

AIO for feeling like I can’t compete with my boyfriend’s past?

My boyfriend and I have been together for around 10 months, and sometimes I get in my head about his ex.
They were together for 7 years and were high school sweethearts. Apparently, they haven’t spoken in almost 2 years, but she still talks to his mom and interacts with his family all the time.
I know their relationship is over, and I’m not saying he wants her back. I just struggle with the fact that someone can be such a huge part of your life for seven years and then you’re supposed to come along and not think about it.
And to make my brain even more annoying, she’s gorgeous, skinny, and rich. She also had a major glow-up after they broke up, which makes me wonder if he regrets ending things or thinks he made a mistake. Meanwhile, I’m kind of funny-looking, so naturally my brain has decided I’m the comic relief in this situation. Lmao.
I know comparing myself to her is unfair to both of us, and I know having history with someone doesn’t automatically mean you still have feelings for them. But sometimes I wonder if I’ll ever feel as significant as someone who was there for so much of his life. Seeing how much she has changed since their breakup makes me worry that he looks at her now and wonders what could have been.
I don’t want to be the girlfriend who makes everything about an ex who isn’t even around anymore. I just want to stop feeling like I’m standing in the shadow of a whole seven-year relationship and imagining that he secretly regrets choosing me.
Has anyone else struggled with this? How did you get out of the comparison spiral and start feeling secure in your own relationship?

AIO for not wanting to talk to my friend after he left this review at my work?

Post image
340 Upvotes

To give some context, this friend (19M) is my (20F) college lab partner and he always joked about leaving a review on my job’s review page about me, however I always thought he was joking.

Yesterday, I received a picture of a review that came though from one of my managers. It basically described me delivering a child in weird terms. I was VERY uncomfortable with this review and felt like it overstepped a boundary. After reading the whole review and getting advice from a few of my friends, I’ve been told I should distance myself from this friend.

However, I feel like it will make it incredibly awkward to stop talking to him since we are lab partners. Am I overreacting?

EDIT: Woah, so I didn’t expect not this to get as much traction as it did! I thought I’d answer a few questions about the whole situation:

- I have confronted him about this and he has since taken down the review, however the apology given did not seem very genuine. I do know in the past that he will tend to just say sorry to brush off a situation instead of actually fixing it.

- No, I have never seen this behaviour before from him. Yes he has been strange in the past, but not to this level or scale. He has insulted me and has been mean to me in the past, however we did have conversations about this. Alongside that, he thought it would be a great idea to draw all over my lab manual so realistically I should have seen this coming 😭

- I can’t really change lab partners as they leave it up to the students to decide who goes with who and everyone already has a lab partner which they are not willing to give up, which I understand as they are their friends and I wouldn’t ditch mine either.

I have since decided to distance myself ALOT from him and only talk to him on a professional level. Thank you to everyone for the advice 🫶🏻

AIO for refusing to babysit my sister’s kids anymore?

I (24F) used to watch my sister’s two kids almost every weekend so she could go out or run errands. I never really minded because I love them. Last weekend, I told her I couldn’t babysit because I had plans of my own for once. She got annoyed and said I was being selfish and that I don’t even have kids, so I don’t know what being tired actually feels like. That honestly hurt because I’ve cancelled plans so many times to help her out. I told her she’d have to find someone else from now on if helping me out was going to be treated like an obligation. Now my mum says I’m punishing the kids over an argument with their mother. I love those kids, but I’m tired of feeling guilty every time I want to live my own life. AIO?

AIO? I need and objective and honest opinion

• Upvotes

I apologise in advance for the long explanation.

Yesterday was my 30th birthday. Since I graduated, I just stopped feeling the need to have all that fuss around it, to throw big parties, and to be loud about it overall. But for my 30th birthday, I wanted something special. Since I still don't like and don't want a grand celebration, I decided to plan a whole week of different activities so I could remember the anniversary with a smile, make it a great memory, and introduce new interests into my life.

I told this plan to my husband, but he said he didn't want it to be a whole week because he wanted to save more days off from work so that when the December holidays come, he could use them then. I understood that, so we planned a three-day celebration (Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday), and for the rest of the week, we would have dinner with our families for a little celebration with them. I wanted to choose activities that I hadn't done in years, or ones that I had always wanted to do but didn't have the right company for.

The first thing was to visit the theater because I hadn't watched a play in too long. He agreed. The second activity was to go to a gallery. There were all kinds of exhibits from different modern artists, but he straight up refused. He doesn't like those places, and even though it was just for one day and for a special occasion, he still said no. I agreed because I didn't want to pressure him to be something he is not, but I suggested visiting the National Gallery instead because it is like a museum and he wouldn't have to talk to anybody. To this, he agreed. We made a plan for Sunday to be a peaceful day with modest activity and to have a cozy, romantic dinner at home with the two dogs we adore. I had made my own cake the day prior; it looked and tasted great, and my husband liked it very much too. I felt everything was planned—not perfectly, but well. It was all going great in my head.

Sunday came, and I woke up in a good mood. He greeted me with a smile, wished me a happy birthday, and... that was it. No flowers, not even a tiny gesture to make me feel special for the occasion (as simple as making me my morning coffee). He is the type of person who always brings me flowers for any occasion. I brushed it off because sometimes I do tell him he doesn't have to bring me flowers for everything, because DAMN, those bouquets are expensive, but still... it is the only day of my life I turn 30. It is not 27 or 28, and I had told him before how I felt about this day and everything I expected from the week.

So I got up, he congratulated me on my birthday, I made my coffee, and I sat at the table to wake up. After 30 minutes, he brought me chocolates he had ordered from a boutique pastry shop, and they were lovely. There was a handwritten card with wishes that he had asked to be included, and as I was reading it, he kept rushing me because he wanted to taste the chocolates. There were 10 in the box with 5 different flavors. I took one, and he took one. They were delicious but too sweet, so I told him I didn't want to taste them all right now, but he wanted to taste every chocolate because he liked them. I felt stupid because they were for me, and I didn't want to devour them in the first hour.

The morning went on, and he asked me what I wanted to do. At first, there was a festival in the city, but because it was too far away and I didn't think it would suit my idea of fun, I dropped the idea and told him I wanted to visit a bar in the city center. It looked really cool, and an online post announced there would be a flea market hosted inside the bar. I thought this was cool. It was an unpretentious place, we would have fun, order a drink, talk, have a humble afternoon, and I could rummage around for something cool to buy.

We headed out, but through the whole way there—a 40 to 50-minute walk—he just wasn't there mentally. He was distracted, quiet, and not in a good mood. I just felt he was off. I asked him what was wrong, and he said it was nothing, that he was just lost in thought about other things, and he assured me he was feeling great and everything was fine. The whole morning felt plain and average, and now the walk to that place felt more like I was going to run an errand. As we got closer, I told him we didn't have to go, that we could just walk around the center, find a cool coffee shop, and still have a good time. He insisted that since I wanted to see the bar, he would accompany me. We found the place and went in, but it was a total disaster. The flea market was poorly arranged, and the place just wasn't to my taste. I felt like I was in a gutter. So, we took a drink to go and just accepted it would be a nice walk around the city.

My hopes were in the dinner I was going to make. We went home, and he suggested helping me with dinner, but I refused because it would take more time to give him instructions than to make it myself. But for the whole evening, it felt like he was in a rush to eat the cake. The dinner was special, and I wanted to eat and talk like proper human beings, to have a romantic evening. But he always eats fast, and I can't keep up with his pace. By the time his plate was half-finished, he said he was full and couldn't continue, but he knew I would get mad that he eats like a savage, so he slowed down and waited for me.

We finished our plates, but I didn't even get 5 minutes before he wanted to eat cake. I cleaned the table, and for fun, I put party hats on us and the dogs to have a cute photo session to remember the evening. He said this isn't gonna work, and I managed to put a hat on only one of the dogs to take cute pictures. He snapped a few photos quickly, and they were all bad. I made him take pictures of us with the cake, but he is a horrible photographer. Out of the 20 pictures he took (we couldn't place the phone in a proper spot to capture both of us and the cake, and his hands are longer than mine, so...), I only liked 2 or 3. In one, I have only one eye open, in another I am blurry, and so on. We lit the candles, he made a video, and sang me the birthday song. This was okay. We ate cake, he complimented my cooking, and all. And that was it... I don't know... the whole day felt stupid.

From some moment through the day, I just forced myself to feel okay. Nothing felt special. During the day, I brought up Monday and the gallery visit a few times, but he insisted that Monday was theater day. He was the one who had paid for the tickets with his bank account, and the confirmation was in his email. I asked if he was sure and told him to check, but he was absolutely sure. Because I am the one who is more forgetful, I believed him.

Monday came, and the day was warm and sunny. He didn't want to waste the morning since I get up later, so he went to pursue his hobby. But from the moment I woke up, I just wasn't feeling the day. Something felt not quite right. He came home in a better mood than yesterday. I asked him if he was sure that today was theater day, and he again said yes. We took the dogs for a walk and came home, but still... I didn't feel it. I asked him to check his email to be sure, and I told him that I would be super disappointed if the whole plan just fell apart. After 30 minutes, he sat at the computer, and what do you know?! The theater is tomorrow, not today. Today we should have gone to the gallery.

For context, this gallery is composed of 5 buildings, all scattered on different streets. It would need nearly a whole day to visit all of them. I was so disappointed. The whole plan just fell apart. He tried to convince me we could do everything in one day (Tuesday), but we can't. I don't want to rush through everything just so I can cram it into one day—to visit all the buildings, go home, walk the dogs, freshen up, and go to the theater for the evening. It wouldn't feel natural, and it wouldn't feel like I am doing it for fun, but more like I am holding it together just so I can pretend everything is still going great. But it is not. And, of course, we started fighting about who was in the wrong.

So, am I overreacting for being upset?

I just wanted a series of pleasant activities where every day is different, and for everything to come and feel natural. Even though I didn't want to put all my expectations on him, and I wanted my mood to be dictated by no one but me (which is the reason why I don't want big gatherings for these occasions), he is half of my life. It should have been just him and me, and somehow, it was all still ruined.

Ex fiance is harrassing me and my friends telling people I cheated on him because I downloaded Tinder AFTER we broke up. He keeps making new instas facebooks and text now numbers spam calling me and my friend and also emailing me consistently tell him to stop contacting me but he ignores. There’s way more screenshots but yeahhhh. I gave him 60 million chances to show real effort, and he throws things in my face that I asked him to do for me holds things above my head and or guilt trips me. He has been doing this for a month. Addicted to tranny and gay porn and refuses to accept he’s bisexual found out he was fucking dudes while we were talking as well as gaslit me into believing that I gave him herpes despite me getting tested before we even were sexually active he’s beaten me in my sleep bragged about fucking me while I was asleep (I know what cnc is but I never told him it was okay before hand) and so much more
Tried pinning two different exes against me (that he did the same thing to ) one sent me all the ss irt and was otp telling me what he was saying and trying to get her to tell him what im doing and who im with ect. This man has a rapist mentally because he will love bomb until he is told no the switches up and plays victim. He uses everyone’s words against them and act like HE was the one who said it to them multiple time even though it’s the other way around, has a previous dv charge against his mom when he was 16 has hit and raped his exes as well.
Found my friend and I in a Xbox party and started harassing him and asking him about me. Like we were together.
Then found his number.
Made 2 numbers on text now
Found him on Facebook
And started harrassing him once I stoped answering the spam texts.

He keeps saying I cheated when I downloaded Tinder after I left him. And I even attempted to break up with him the day before he actually realized I was serious.
I wasn’t home all day either I was avoiding him because I was scared that he would’ve guilt tripped me back like he’s done previously. When I was at my mothers he told my grandma that he was going to call the governor on me 😐😭

* he did not threaten my ex all he told him when friend answered his call to stop contacting both of us or we will press charges

After all that I still feel like it’s my fault and I’m just crazy idk but maybe I’m not I really don’t know anymore
Should I get a ppo or no?

AIO for thinking my step sister making me an oc in her fanfics is a weird thing to do?

This whole situation is super cringey i know that

I’m (16m) and my step sister is (15f), she’s made my life really stressful because she’s got a lot of issues and she’s spoiled and my dad and her mom let her do whatever and she’s really attached to me because she has very few friends and my parents force me to hang out with her.

She’s obsessed with this YouTube series thing to the point where she talks about these characters like she knows them and writes her own fanfics with the self insert oc.What rubs me wrong is she made me a oc in this world as well. Like fully uses my name and all that. And has them hunt down people we go to school with, she used to uses their real names but she renamed them because she got into trouble at school. And it’s really violent. It’s weird and i don’t like that she involves me. She speaks super sexually and asks me very invasive questions and it’s just weird.

The parents think it’s harmless and she’s being creative and i feel frustrated because i feel like im the only one who thinks it’s weird.

She also kind of made our characters lowkey a thing, like she writes them to have a kind of will they won’t they relationship and my charecter is super protective over her and jealous of other characters that “flirt” with her. And i think it’s gross because 1 she’s my step SISTER and 2 she grosses me out. I have complained to the parents about how i feel like she’s got a weird obsession with me and they get mad at me and act like im being creepy for thinking that.

Also yeah she ai generates “her art” and a lot of the time our characters look like a couple, like hugging and snuggling and blushing and stuff. I’d post it but im not sure if this post would get flagged for ai content so idk.

I just feel like this is super weird and everyone else is so nonchalant about it that I’m like am i being dramatic and it really is harmless?

AIO !GAMING! For not saying anything while they say nothing..

AIO I am playing a video game...

Soooo started talking with this friend through hinge (only looking for friends) we added eachother on fort today after talking for less than 5 days. I assume if we are playing a video game that means we will communicate.. they made it clear the day prior they do not like to call... so i say okay and oblige. We hop on the game they have me play a mode I've never played before.. I'm talking to them through headset they can't hear me because it's not charged so we play till it is. Now they message me on the phone to say they can hear me, i try to call them through discord while we are playing since their headset is charging.. they reiterate calling isn't something they like and would rather wait... again i say okay... we finish like 2 games with me talking into my headset while hearing nothing...

So i say this after reading what THEY said to ME mid game.... and it's just because im gaming im saying stuff like "theres a bitch over here" and "fook" and asking where people are if they can ping it... after no pings or callouts or any in game communication i say this since I had explained how i communicate regardless....

Genuinely AIO??

For context this person knows I am staying up very late to play with them when i need sleep..

AIO by thinking these are red flags?

I’ve been traumatized so much I genuinely can’t tell. I went on a second date with him, and he knows I’m in nursing school. He said “ thats good you only have 1.5 years of nursing school left. Youve been trying for the last 8 years right?”, I told him I had been in nursing school for 1 year taking prereqs(ADN program) and that I just started a two year ADN program. I felt insulted because why would he assume it had taken me 8 years!? Unless he had mixed it up with med school, but that’s very difficult to mix up.

Then I told him a childhood story of when I almost drowned at 5 years old and he started arguing with me that swimming comes instinctively to humans?? I told him it does not, and humans need to learn how to swim, but he just kept arguing with me. Finally he made a comment about how he’s shocked I’m eating so much because I’m a girl. I don’t think he was trying to fat shame me for anything, but it weirded me out.

AIO to my boyfriend watching porn of others before sex?

Hey y’all this is a throwaway and it’s gonna be sloppy. My boyfriend and me were about to have sex. He pulls his phone out and says he’s focusing and to shh, so i asked what he was looking at he said “videos”, i told him it better be of me.
He said “yes of course”. While I’m giving head he switched to another video.
I saw before we started and told him i was upset and he told me it has nothing to do with me.
I’m just upset because we have talked about my body image issues and he doesn’t see how doing stuff like that makes me feel unwanted or unattractive.
I don’t have a problem with him watching porn but as I’m giving you head… like…. am i turning you off so bad you have to watch a video to get hard?? Idk I’m angry and sad and i can’t talk to him because he always just runs with it and is like “ oh you don’t want me to have eyes”
and in all reality no i just want to feel like I’m the most important person to you in the bedroom and out. Idk I’m rambling atp because I’m also venting to you all but i don’t want to leave out info.

AIO for being uncomfortable with my boyfriend staying in touch with his ex of 7 years?

I (27F) have been dating this guy (27M) around 2 months, and recently something has been bothering me. I genuinely can’t tell if I’m overreacting or if my concerns are valid.
For context, he was with his childhood sweetheart for about 6–7 years. They broke up in 2022, and he’s had a few short relationships since then.
When we initially started dating, I was under the impression that he wasn’t in contact with his ex anymore. But slowly, I’ve been learning that they do occasionally communicate.
Here are a few examples:
She texted him after seeing his brother’s Instagram story, saying something like, “Hey, I saw your brother’s story.”
She messaged him when some of their mutual friends visited his place.
She sent him an Instagram reel saying something along the lines of “You’re on my touch list.”

Recently, he told me they had exchanged a few messages a couple of days earlier. I appreciate that he told me voluntarily, but it bothered me that he hadn’t mentioned it sooner, especially because we’ve had conversations about exes before.

What makes this more complicated is that he also told me he’d heard his ex’s current boyfriend might have cheated on her. He said he doesn’t know whether they’ve broken up, but that his ex was an important part of his life and he’d be there for her if she genuinely needed help.

That’s where I started feeling really uncomfortable.

I understand they have years of history, and I’m not asking him to erase his past. But the idea of my boyfriend potentially becoming an emotional support system for someone he was deeply in love with for 7 years doesn’t sit right with me.

When I expressed this, he reassured me multiple times that he doesn’t want her back and that there’s nothing romantic between them. He also feels like he’s in a difficult position because if he tells me about their conversations, I get upset, but if he doesn’t, that’s also a problem.

I can understand his perspective to some extent.
However, I share almost everything happening in my life with him, and I feel like I’m slowly discovering things about his life that I previously understood differently. It’s making me question whether we have the same expectations about transparency and boundaries.

I don’t want to control who he speaks to, and I don’t want to make him cut someone off just because I’m uncomfortable. But I also don’t want to stay in a relationship where I’m constantly anxious about his connection with an ex.
I’m seriously considering whether this is a compatibility issue and potentially a dealbreaker for me, especially since we’re only two months into dating.

AIO for sleeping in my moms car after being forced out my room

(added info: me and my mom live with 3 other people & theyre all addicts. sorry if this is typed messy im just so lost in life)
so im 16 and i live with my mom on the weekends and stay at my dads/grandmas to get to school. my dad currently doesn’t have a house of his own so we stay at my grandmas and i sleep on her couch. this weekend i went to my moms house and as soon as we get there she tells me “we’re downstairs now” i knew it was coming because she asked me to get my room cleaned up so she could move up with me. i didnt know brick( ima call him brick) was moving into my room. so when i get in the house i put my stuff down i go up stairs and see my dresser and other boxes in the hallway. when i get into my room it is cleared out. all my posters are taken down like they were ripped off the walls, all the stuff that was on my bed was shoved into one blanket and shoved into the closet. i already wasnt doing great in life so this just made me cry. i literally have no place to go where i feel accepted because my room was my safe space. i have no privacy now, nowhere to put my stuff, nothing. and the part that annoys me the most is that brick said “you and (my brother) can sleep up there for the weekend” like that was supposed to be a kind gesture? originally i thought his bm was moving into my room because shes pregnant and needed space but no its just him. the room he was staying in with his bm HAS enough space they just needed to clean it. he has no actually need to rent out my room. the whole reason i slept in my moms car is because why would i get used to sleeping in a place i wont be for long? its just the fact all my stuff was just crumpled and tossed to the side. they would be screaming at me if i did the same thing so why is it okay for them to basically evict me? everyones acting like im just supposed to be okay with this??

edit: i cant live with my dad because he is staying in my grandmas spear room and because we been staying with him she wants all of us out, i dont have really anyone to go to about this because i dont trust my school administrators and i dont want to end up in foster care. i love my parents and i understand that they are at a low point in life but we have been in a low point since we moved into an ex crack house in 2023 and moved again in 2025. idk if addicts was the right word to call them cuz all they do is weed but idk.
