Dexter's Laboratory / Ed, Edd n Eddy from Cartoon Network's Cartoon Cartoon Fridays promos.

Rob Corddry from Hot Tub Time Machine played Tim in the promo. He's the guy that was driving the car and throwing jawbreakers at random Ed, Edd n Eddy groups. I remember seeing a black guy playing Eddy in this.

Johnny Bravo / Powerpuff Girls from Cartoon Network's Cartoon Cartoon Fridays promos.

I love the Johnny Bravo seminar. Bunch of Johnny clones saying oh mama and hitting on random women. Jesse Tyler Ferguson from Modern Family played Steve Mank in this promo. I don't watch Modern Family but I know who he is. How did he go from Johnny Bravo member to gay guy on Modern Family?

Spooky episodes of my cartoon!

Spooky episodes of my cartoon!

Meet Manny The Naked Mammoth. A loving father who can help his family and he's going to the millennium island. Now, he's about to meet a friend who's a naked man-cub.

Does anyone but me feel like Simpsons is kind of overrated?

I was just never a huge fan. As a kid I watched it because I liked cartoons and it was the only cartoon that was on during the late-night hours, but even then I don't recall being a huge fan. The drama plots are okay, though kneecapped by the show's negative continuity meaning none of it matters, and the humor strikes me as "how is this supposed to be funny?"

EDIT: It looks like this topic is gonna become another runaround of "pre-Season 8 good, post Season 8 bad" but like I said, I revisited the show on Disney Plus and specifically watched older seasons--the ones I saw as a kid. And yet my overall impression is "how did I stand this show as a kid?"

And just to be clear, I was born in 1983, so I was catching these "golden seasons" during their original run, and they're the ones I'm revisiting.

EDIT 2

I feel like I should have elaborated on my issues.

Someone made the good point that it may just be that I don't like "adult animated comedies" in general. I don't really care for mean-spirited or cynical humor where the joke seems to be "this person is suffering for no reason, isn't that funny?"

But when it comes to the Simpsons, one additional issue is it seems not sure if it wants to be a comedy or a serious drama. So we'll have times like where there's a touching moving sequence where Homer and Bart are having a moment... then Homer falls into a gorge. Then the ambulance hits a tree and drops him into a gorge again. Okay....

Gonna also say that Simpson's humor doesn't really strike me as that much more "edgy" or "subversive" than what was going on in kids' shows at the time. Indeed there's a few kids shows from this era that actually do make me chuckle (Darkwing Duck being a major example) but Simpsons doesn't. I actually don't recall Simpsons tackling a theme, subject, or premise that you wouldn't see on Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, or Ren and Stimpy.

(Just to be clear, this isn't me calling those shows superior--in general when I go back to the 1990s I tend to prefer stuff like Batman the Animated Series or the Highlander cartoon, not comedies. Darkwing Duck is in that sweet spot where its funny but also has enough heart and substance that I can genuinely latch onto something. A lot of comedy cartoons feel to me like just random idiocy. But yeah, if I was strapped to a chair and had to choose between three hours of the Simpsons and three episodes of Ren and Stimpy, I'd choose Simpsons).

Always found this gag in cartoons hilarious.

So, there's a lot of topics about what shows we think hold up.

But are there any shows you liked as a kid but don't like now?

My own answer is basically: I find a lot of he comedy-themed stuff is hard to watch now. Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Ren and Stimpy etc. If I don't get a nostalgia high from it, then I quickly start cringing as I notice the uneven writing, badly-timed humor, mean-spirited gags etc.

For myself, the stuff I think holds up--comedy or not--usually has something my brain can latch onto. Darkwing Duck for example is funny but also has heart because of Darkwing trying to do right by Gosalyn, and also genuinely kicking all sorts of rear end whenever he controls his ego enough to realize his villains need to be taken seriously. Going back to the eighties, I find that He-Man and She-Ra generally have a lot of compelling mythology in their worlds, backstories, character histories etc that make the shows feel like they have meat.

What do you think?

Freaky Fred and Jean Bon.

I think these two were my favorite villains. They both stood out to me. I can see Bill Hader play a live action version of Fred. I might do a drawing of Freaky Fred vs Stoop Kid. I can see him stalking Helga. LMAO! Mr. Kokoshka befriending him. Hey look Grandpa, it's Freaky Fred! Heh! Heh! Heh! Heh!

Dr. Zalost

I thought he kind of looks like a Crash Bandicoot villain to me. I think that's why I drew him. I can see him having conflict with Dr. Cortex. I think I drew this while I was watching that episode.

Jean Bon, Katz, Dr. Gerbil, Duck Brothers, Eustace & posessed Muriel/demonic Muriel.

I love the Demon in the Mattress episode. I remember the creepy "It's a Gerbils World!". Jean Bon says "Oh Homer"? I must joked about Homer Simpson getting chased by Jean Bon. I do remember joking about Caillou getting chased by him too.

I drew all of this years ago.

How would you deal with Sarah from Ed Eddn Eddy if she was about to beat you up?

any radiohead fan might get this one…

Powerpuff Girls 1995 - Aug 29, 1999

From the ending of the Meat Fuzzy Lumkins 1995 short.
