Voices of Resistance Democratic candidate for governor of VT Amanda Janoo on fighting fascism
Her opponent Phil Scott justified the brutal violence unleashed by state and local police against anti-ice protesters during the March 11th ICE raid. On that day, a college student was nearly choked to death by state police.

FL Youth asking for help to vote.
Heyo! I’m a youth in Florida (District 14) and I’m rather unsure who to vote for. If you guys are able to give me information, that’d be awesome!
I’ve heard Kathy Castor takes AIPAC, but people are saying to vote blue, which I assume means Mike Beltran is off the table? So I’m unsure what I should do or who I should vote.
If I can get some help, that’d be great. Or even some advice on info I should look out for to help make a decision?
If this post doesn’t apply in this sub, I understand, just please lead me to a place where I can get help on this, I’m not sure what to do as I’m new to this and it seems both parties are bad?
Edit: To be quite frank, I have zero clue who I’m voting for in general. I’m looking up info in each opponent, but either there’s nothing for both, or both are terrible.

Federal Voting Rights Baselines & Practical Application
| Statute / Policy Area | Core Provisions & Enforceable Minimums | Practical Application |
|---|---|---|
| Voting Rights Act (VRA) – Section 2 | Prohibits voting practices that result in the denial or abridgment of the right to vote on account of race, color, or membership in a language minority group. Results matter, not just intent. | Protects against discriminatory redistricting, voter roll purges, and localized poll closures. |
| VRA – Section 203 | Requires covered jurisdictions (determined by Census data) to provide translated materials and oral assistance for specified language minority groups. | Mandates ballots, registration forms, and instructions in languages other than English in covered counties. |
| VRA – Section 208 | Any voter needing assistance due to blindness, disability, or inability to read/write may choose a person of their choice to assist them. | Prohibited assistants are strictly limited to the voter’s employer, employer's agent, or union officer/agent. No medical proof required. |
| Help America Vote Act (HAVA) | Guarantees provisional ballot rights if eligibility is challenged, and mandates at least one accessible voting system per polling place. | Ensures voters are not turned away blindly at the poll if registration status is disputed. |
| Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA Title II) | Public entities must ensure full and equal opportunity to vote with physical accessibility, reasonable modifications, and auxiliary aids. | Mandates ramps, wide doorways, accessible parking, and alternative voting options if a site cannot be made accessible. |
| National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) | "Motor Voter" rules providing registration at DMV, public assistance, and disability offices. Prohibits systematic purges within 90 days of a federal election. | Secures accessible voter registration touchpoints across state agencies. |
| UOCAVA | Protects active-duty military, family members, and overseas U.S. citizens to register and vote absentee using the FPCA. Ballots must be sent 45 days prior. | Guarantees enfranchisement for citizens stationed or living abroad. |
Common Barriers and Immediate Navigation Steps
| Encountered Barrier | Immediate Action & Mitigation Steps |
|---|---|
| Name Not on Rolls / Eligibility Challenged | Request a provisional ballot immediately. Do not leave without it. Document the poll worker's name, time, and specific reason given. Call Election Protection from the site. |
| ID Requirement Issues | Check state rules via Can I Vote or Vote.gov. Some states offer affidavits, alternative documents, or free ID. VoteRiders assists with acquiring required documentation. |
| Language Access Denial | In Section 203 jurisdictions, demand translated materials and bilingual assistance. If denied, document the polling location and report immediately to the DOJ or Election Protection. Section 208 assistance applies nationwide. |
| Disability / Assistance Denial | Cite Section 208 and ADA rules. You have the right to choose your assistant (with the narrow employer/union exception). Request accessible voting machines or curbside voting. Contact your state P&A agency via NDRN. |
| Intimidation or Coercion | You have the right to vote free from threats, harassment, or interference. Inform a poll supervisor, document specific details (time, descriptions, statements), and call Election Protection or the DOJ hotline. Stay in line if polls close while waiting. |
| Felony Conviction Status | Eligibility varies sharply by state (some restore rights automatically upon release, others require application or impose permanent restrictions). Verify via official state portals rather than general summaries. |
| Military / Overseas Voting | Submit a new Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) annually via FVAP. Track ballot delivery and return deadlines specific to your voting jurisdiction. |
Documentation and Reporting Protocol
| Step | Action Item |
|---|---|
| 1. Record Details | Note the exact time, location, poll worker names or physical descriptions, and what was explicitly stated or refused. |
| 2. Insist on Paper / Provisional | Request a provisional ballot or written explanation of any denial or challenge from election officials. |
| 3. Call On-Site | Contact the Election Protection Hotline (866-OUR-VOTE) while still standing at or near the polling place. |
| 4. File Formal Complaints | For systemic or civil rights violations (discrimination, Section 203/208 denial, ADA failure), file a formal report with the DOJ Civil Rights Division (1-800-253-3931) or via their online portal. |
| 5. Retain Evidence | Keep any provisional ballot receipt, written denial notice, or photographs of posted polling instructions or notices. |

US Protest News The disturbing trend of protesters being assaulted at Trump rallies continues. A familiar pattern unfolds: a protester disrupts, gets attacked, the crowd chants “USA! USA!”, and Trump adds inflammatory remarks. This time he said “He liked that” after the assault.
Call to Action Bringing in new voters in Wisconsin, Michigan
It’s a cliché, but an accurate one: elections in America are decided by who shows up. This is especially true for the midterms, which can swing wildly based on whose supporters are more enthusiastic. That means our work is not only persuading people to vote for progressive, pro-democracy candidates, but turning non-voters into voters.
While voter registration deadlines have passed in many states (see deadlines here), we still have a chance to expand the electorate in multiple battlegrounds. Wisconsin and Michigan both have same-day registration. Rust Belt Rising is seizing the opportunity, identifying folks who are likely to vote blue but are currently not on the rolls, mailing them a pre-filled voter registration form with a motivational flyer and postage, and then following up by phone to encourage them to complete the process. They need our help to get as many new people registered as possible! ☎️ We can sign up for phonebank shifts to help create new Dem-leaning voters in Michigan tomorrow at 1 PM ET and Tuesday at 6:30 PM ET here, and do the same for Wisconsin on Saturday at 11:30 AM ET and next Thursday at 6:30PM ET by registering here.
