Lore Europa project sol

Project context
Europans were the first Jovians to reinvent space travel and explore Sol after humanity's collapse. Europans are the main people I use to explain the worlds of Sol; they are semi-reliable narrators with deep religious ties to the sentient machines called frames. Europans are very different from humans; they are derived from wraiths, supersoldiers from Antarctica's expansion into the outer system. After the collapse, they outcompeted humans on Europa's ice shelves and evolved into the modern Europan over the following millennia.

Europa's landmasses float, tethered deep beneath the sea, too far below for any current vessel to reach. Atlas is the largest continent and is home to the United Europa Republic (UER), the major Europan power behind the Mars and Saturn expeditions. Eden is a militaristic, democratic societies that invest heavily in their research on Io and Ganymede. Rothera is in the process of being assimilated into the UER; insurrectionists, terrorists, and proxy militias funded by Eden's government have slowed this process for decades. Acadia and Reah are semi-autonomous regions of the UER, mostly acting as industrial hubs and military bases. The ice shelves of Rohea and Oseaca are named after Europan god-kings of legend; both are desolate polar wastelands.

The Europan people stand roughly 9 ft. tall and weigh roughly 200-250 lbs on Europa. They are highly carnivorous for primates, feeding mostly on Native Europan biota(NEBs) and introduced Earth animals. Europans also engage in funerary cannibalism; this cultural relic from their early history has persisted in all current cultures. Consuming another after they pass is a sign of respect and a way to honor the dead; Europans display the skulls of the dead in either homes or institutions where the individual was important; leaving a body to rot is the greatest form of disrespect. Europans have pit organs and extra cone cells, allowing them to see infrared light; this is for tracking prey and machines in polar conditions. On Europa's cold, rainy continents, infrared sight is also useful for avoiding predators and enemies. The Europan ear is bifid, with between 4 and 5 lobes; the lobes can be flushed with blood, creating different heat profiles. This allows for silent short-range communication between Europans. Europan hair is structurally blue; this interacts with melanin to create colors ranging from black and purple to cerulean and baby blue. They also have pigmentless patches on their arms and bodies that create stripes and patterns. Both of these features are significantly more exaggerated in modern europans due to sexual selection.

Europan technology is reliant on electricity mostly gathered through solar and tidal energy; Europa has no fossil fuels on the continental shelves, only deep near the core. NEB biology also creates only low-grade fuels. Gunpowder was also never discovered; magnetism is the main way anything gets transported, both cargo and munitions. Maglift trams and space elevators are the main ways resources are transported; domestic animals carry things short range. Rail guns are the only weaponry europans use; the ammo is cheap, and the technology is reliable and has been developed for centuries.

Europa's wildlife is roughly half Earth-derived species and half native. The NEBS are sightless, fishlike animals that fill out most of the aquatic ecosystem; chimeras developed to resemble Ediacaran biota and three-eyed amphibians fill out the rest of the biosphere. Kelp and macroalgae cover vast portions of Europa's cold, nutrient-dense oceans. Coniferous rainforests, wet prairie, swamp, and pine mangrove are the major land ecosystems. Europa is wet; the humidity never dips below 80% anywhere except the poles. The vast ice shelves are relatively dead. The underside of the ice shelves hosts the greatest diversity of NEBs anywhere on the Moon.

Question How do humans survive in a world of giant monsters?

Hello again, it's me again. I'm the same person who asked about a mix of fantasy and spec evolution. Lately, some friends have been telling me how humans survive here with so many enormous animals. There are some moderately sized animals, Kingdoms, and walls, and also a high adaptability in humans, but I would like to read some possibilities about how humans could survive, without such advanced technology, avoiding To the forces of nature, animals that are... impossible to kill.

The elements are manipulated using stones (these natural forces are immune to all). They have weapons like spears or swords, axes, etc., and something like a rudimentary rifle. And what shaped the Civilizations of this world are clans.

Aside from that, I'd like to read about the ways people could live in this world. Again, there are animals that are normal, but not all of them are that size

Visual A Brief Guide to Interhuman Procreation

Post image
583 Upvotes

(quick thing before I get into the text, 'humanity' in my setting is a term that covers basically all fantasy species, what are to us 'humans' are here called 'Persequori')

(It should also be noted that hard distinctions can be more fluid and cultural rather than inherently biological. A 'Half-Aelf' is more a spectrum between Persequori and Aelf)

1. Hybrids

Hybrids are relatively common, but not possible between every human coupling. True hybrids can only be born in a coupling where one of the parents is Persequori.

Hybrids themselves can procreate with humans of either of their lineages, or with hybrids of the same type as them.

(A Half-Aelf will, under most circumstances, not be able to procreate with a Half-Dweorg*)

A hybrid of the 2nd generation, where three of their grandparents are Persequori, could, though with some difficulty, have hybrid offspring with human kinds outside their close lineage, as well as hybrids of a different type.

(A Quarter-Aelf can possibly procreate with a Dweorg, though fertility issues would be present)

A 3rd generation hybrid, with a majority Persequori lineage can without any issues procreate with any other human kind.

\There are very rare, but recorded exemptions, where an offspring has been born to a coupling of a hybrid and a human or hybrid unrelated to the first parent's hybrid type. These children are extremely unlikely to be conceived and as unlikely to be born alive. If they are, nearly all will be entirely sterile. They are not considered true hybrids due to their infertility.*

(A Half-Aelf and a Half-Dweorg can, with extreme luck, conceive a child who can, with more luck, be delivered alive. The child will almost certainly be sterile)

2. One parent dominant

There are a few other human kinds that can, like the Persequori, procreate with any other human kind.

Examples of these are Harpies and Nymphs, though the rules are different with them.

The parent can be any human male, but the resulting child of the coupling will always be a Harpy or a Nymph.

An exception is in the case of a coupling between a Persequori and a Nymph, where the child will sometimes be a Half-Nymph of either sex, but will usually just be a Nymph.

Harpies, however, never produce hybrids.

3. Odds and ends

Dryads usually reproduce entirely asexually*, but hybrids of either sex are possible with Persequori males

\Some scholars hypothesize, and some Dryad traditions claim that certain kinds of trees native to Dryad forests are actually the missing male half of Dryadkind. The scarcity of these trees within the Aelnyyraean Empire is hypothesized to be responsible for lower rates of asexual reproduction among Imperial Dryads. This problem has often been addressed by the planting of proper Dryad Groves within the Empire.*

Some other scholars and other Dryad traditions instead claim that being around these trees only aids in making a Dryad fertile, and some others also claim that they do nothing at all, and that their effect on a Dryad's fertility is largely a psychological one, due to the cultural beliefs surrounding them.

Centaurs cannot create hybrids even with Persequori males and females. It is believed to be because their anatomy is too different from the average human body plan.

Discussion How do you defeat a villain with the power of "save states" like in video games?

I'm creating a game, and I wanted the villain to have save state capabilities like an emulator, but I think that would be too unbalanced. What would be a satisfying way to defeat this villain? Or limitations that make it more balanced.

The Unknown World of Ída is my long-term worldbuilding project exploring a fictional ancient world inspired by real historical cultures, from the Bronze Age to the early Middle Ages.

I'm developing its civilizations, kingdoms, armies, and conflicts through character designs, illustrations, maps, and historical-style storytelling.

Here are some older warrior designs from different cultures of Ída.

Question Making religions feel like a religion instead of fantasy reskins

Despite theism being really important in my setting, I have not found a way to make any of my religions feel like their own, unique way of worship. The main issue I'm running into is that the gods of my settings do not ask for worship, nor even really talk to the humans. They are meant to be alien, like people are running around in their shadow, trying to find and make their own reasoning as to their existence.

She of Prismatic Light, She of Incandescent Beauty, The Blinding Light, is my Sun god effectively. She brings warmth, and light, and goodness, but stare directly into her and you'll be blinded, walking next to her will immolate you. The main issue with her is I feel like she's basically just became "sunshine and rainbows" Catholicism. Her followers don beautiful robes inlaid with glass making all of their priests effectively walking stained glass paintings. Belief wise though, they're just Catholics really.

The Singer of Steel, The Bleeding Mask, He of the Red Tide, The Clouds of War, is my war god. It's more nuanced than that, he's also symbolic of bravery, self sacrifice, and martyrdom. I'm not sure how he's worshipped though, most I have is that he's well liked by both warmongers and people fighting for liberation, showing how violence is used a weapon to oppress, but can also be utilized to throw off your chains

She That Should Not Be is my goddess of Magic, but also things like curiosity, progress, impossibility, perseverance and determination. Making something real despite everything telling you you can't, that's all stuff worshippers of her venerate. Right now, it's pretty much just mages who talk about her as well as some like scientists

He of Rot and Ruin, He of Mildew and Mold, Breather of Malady, The Yellow King, is my god of corruption in all its forms, the shift from pride to delusion, interest to obsession, from good to evil. His worshippers are a cult, the bearers of the Pallid Mask, using good art and smooth words to weasel their way into positions of power or authority to spread the King's influence and the plague.

I like my gods, what they symbolize, and the way people talk about them, but I don't know how to start figuring out how their worship works on a grand scale. Obviously there's a lot of Singer worship within the militaries of my world. Mages are going to revere Should Not Be, but how to expand on these ideas have been lost to me.

I think the best bit I've got is an "inversion" to the standard Prismatic Church, the Umbrists. In lore, the Prismatic Church very much does not like necromancy, but the Government the church is centered in utilizes it in their fields as a form of slave labor. Umbrists believe themselves as devout worshippers of Her Incandescence, but instead of basking her light, they turn their back towards it to help lift people out of the shadows. This has led to their beliefs taking a much different light, wearing dark robes and practicing necromancy so sinners may atone with their physical body, so their soul may pass onto paradise.

It's inspired by the divide between Protestant and Catholic beliefs, and the bad blood between the groups is reflected in lore, church prosecution and murder and the like, but the government realized "oh these guys can be undead slave drivers" and offered them religious protections and the like

That, I love, I super enjoyed writing it, but I don't just want to rehash the same conflicts for my other religions, I gotta make them pop out more. How'd y'all do it for your settings? Any videos or stuff to draw inspiration from?

Question Regarding the history of a fictional country

So I have a project that’ve been plotting and brainstorming for a while now and it takes place in a fictional Eastern European country that is basically sandwiched between Czechia, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary and the Balkan countries.

This country is inhabited by a fictional Slavic people and is a constitutional monarchy. But then I remembered that monarchies have disappeared from Eastern Europe, because of the huge Soviet influence, so I’m now left wondering how do I come up with a semi-realistic explanation for the existence of this country in modern times 😅

I found a thread on a worldbuilding forum where someone talked about a very similar dilemma, but in their case the country was based on the territory of Ukraine and Ukrainian culture. As you can see in my case it’s quite different.

I’m obviously not asking you to come up with everything since it’s my job to create the whole backstory of this place and execute the ideas in a satisfying way. But I’m curious to see what kind of explanations you guys would think of!

Lore Ripazuru: a tidally locked, red hot super-earth.

Thumbnail
gallery
13 Upvotes

(For Th’zoitrk, a semi-sci-fi worldbuilding project.)

Image 1: Ripazuru as seen through thermal imaging.
Image 2: Ripazuru as seen in true-color.

Ripazuru is the fourth planet in the solar system, and by far the single hottest terrestrial planet in the system. The only planet hotter than Ripazuru is Puloshi.

Ripazuru has an equatorial diameter of roughly 18,278km, a mass of 3.23 earth masses, and a surface gravity of 1.57 G’s. It is one of the few terrestrial worlds with a strong dipolar magnetic field.
Ripazuru’s surface is clouded and invisible from space due to the thick atmosphere. A super-earth of its size and rotational speed can easily form atmospheric bands akin to gas giants, as seen with Oukapul prior to colonization, but due to Ripazuru’s extreme heat the gases in its atmosphere are unable to form into proper clouds, keeping its atmosphere well mixed and uniform.
From space, Ripazuru appears as a very bland, single-color marble.

At 0.37 AU, Ripazuru receives a very large amount of solar radiation, far more than earth. It shares a very similar atmospheric composition to its neighboring planet, Hakolé. However, unlike Hakolé, Ripazuru is not a mild and room-temperature world.

Ripazuru’s atmosphere is 84 bar and comprised of 86.64% argon, 12.22% carbon dioxide, and 1.12% oxygen, with 0.02% of other minor trace gases.
Without the highly reflective crystalline surface or lack of any greenhouse gases that keep Hakolé cooled, Ripazuru is forced into an extreme greenhouse effect from the CO2 content within its atmosphere.

Ripazuru’s surface temperature reaches 684°C on the day side, but tends to be significantly cooler, roughly 400-500°C on the night side of the planet. This makes Ripazuru the second hottest planet in the solar system after Puloshi, and even hotter than the planet Venus from earth’s solar system.

Ripazuru’s surface is so hot that on the night side, despite Ripazuru being tidally locked (and thus the night side never seeing the sun), the surface remains slightly illuminated by the red thermal glow of the ground. Ripazuru is, thus, one of only four worlds in the solar system who have partially or fully illuminated night sides.
(The others being Th’zoitrk, from city lights. Sorkyon, from lightning. And Keisoya, from super-geysers.)

Ripazuru’s surface is, due to the extreme heat, extremely weird. With 84 bar of atmospheric pressure above, the air at the surface behaves more like a fluid than a gas. It has a relative pressure equivalent to being ~850 meters underwater on earth.

You wouldn’t walk across the surface so much as you would swim over it, if you were wearing a suit that could somehow resist the temperature.
Also, due to the high heat at the surface, the ground is melted into lava. This ‘liquid soil’ forms a lava ocean across the entire surface of the planet; one which sits directly beneath the ‘liquid air’ of the dense atmosphere. Somewhat similar to underwater brine pools on earth.

The surface of Ripazuru is also rich with sound. Low frequencies are made clearer, but high frequency noises are muted entirely due to the thick atmosphere. As well, the speed of sound on Ripazuru is roughly double that of the speed of sound on earth.
Audio from the semi-molten crust sliding and scraping over itself echo through the air and create a continuous, unending low rumble that can be heard anywhere upon the surface.

Looking far into the distance, the extreme heat warps light, exacerbated by the thick and dense atmosphere. Similar to looking just above a hot asphalt road or metal object on a sunny day, these heat waves bend light and make the far distance extremely difficult to make out with your eyes.

Lore Still missing one part

At year 1, 7 races appeared [ slime, elves, humans, crystalmen, plant people, dog people and piranha people, in each of their minds a message was engraved "when all weapons of sin are controlled by one, the world shall abide by ones wish"] in the world, each king of each race received a weapon blessed by god , each one named after one of the seven deadly sins, after that each race was put into they're own part of the world across the five continents, in addition to that a few regular animals and some more intelligent life have been granted by god to have the ability to create civilizations [orcs, bandits, dwarfs, angles, cat people and penguins] of they're own for example the countless bugs across the world united in one remote continent and created countless kingdoms. After a hundred years of quiet and a few years of brutal war a true test of might arrived, a dragon, a beast of the likes no creature living or dead have ever seen. The dragon himself wasn't like any other he towered above anything that stood in his way if it were mountains or the mighty weapons of sin that opposed them he would pass through them like nothing was there, with little effort he killed the holders of the spear of pride and sword of gluttony which were a dwarf and a human respectivly. After that the holder of envy [[ the first creation born upon the world ]] arrived onto the continent which the dragon was terrorising and after a brutal fight that lasted literally 5 years the dragon was finally slayed as the kingdom of dwarves and humans was saved. 30 years later an evil mage from the depth of hell decided to join the world and create his own kingdom but at the same time the kingdom of slime and crystals allied and made humans extinct. The mages took their place and made a bustling kingdom of their own their leader was in a league of his own, he was so powerful he could easily contest with any sin weapon so when a human suddenly appeared with genetic modification that made them far greater in strength they knew they had to intervene, the original neo human was insanely strong capable of flight at the speed of fighter jets was able to teleport freely, regenerate, self cloning and was capable of using every type of magic there is, the king of Mage's with the assistance of the plant army and his own mage army fought long and hard for multiple years, after hundreds of deaths on the mage side the and after tens of years in a continuous fight the mage king won and killed every single last member of the neo human clones, and peace returned, right then at the age of pain an alliance of multiple bug people have decided to create a weapon of their own, a weapon so great it would be considered an artificial weapon of sin. in fact, they used the same technology that the neo humans were created with to create their own bug, the butterfly itself was by far the strongest he easily could've killed every creature in the world alone especially with his weapon which is now lost to time, it was a type of bow, a silver bow that shot golden looking arrows that were capable of piercing any creature [[shotgun]] yet with all that power that was in him he decided not to harm anyone at any cost. Yet after a few years the slime kingdom realised that they held immense power, their race was insanely strong and durable and that staying peaceful wouldn't help them at all, so they went on the offense along with the dog people they decimated the piranha people and then went on to eliminate the cat people,

But then another threat came, a threat so powerful even the remaining sin holders barely could stop it, the [[devine]] dragon returned even tho he was weakened at his return after going unnoticed until he began attacking the penguin kingdom and devouring their citizens to regain health, his revival brought upon him the ability to overload his body to such a degree where his health multiplied by 50 and his attack power by 20, one by one he began devouring anyone and anything that was in his way until he got to the unified bug kingdom, there stood the only individual who could stop the dragon in his tracks but by that time all but 2 of the original sin holders remained, greed and envy. The two of them remembered the one law of god. in the meantime the legion of bandits went to war with the plant people who held the weapon of lust, tho the plant people had put up a great fight they were no match for the countless bandits that invaded and so the weapon of lust was lost to the hands of envy .By that time the dragon and the butterfly tired each other out to the point the both had to retreat, the only place the dragon could've went is to the slime kingdom that surrounded him and so the dragon has to continue fighting but the holder of greed was no match and so his Kingdom was wiped and all weapons fell under envy. And so marked the time, the time for the final wish, since the dragon has killed nearly all. Envy decided when doesn't want to watch anymore people suffer and so she wished for the world to reset, and so at year 400 the world plunged into darkness....

Right after the legendary weapon of sin were gathered by the holder of envy, the world plunged into darkness, as the world saw light again multiple new species rose up to take hold of it, the weapons of sin now scattered across the world the species that hold sin are elves sheep people and dwarfs, alongside them a few animals who have been chosen by god to carry the burden of sin are crickets sheep unicorns and dung beetles, which all hold their receptive kingdoms along side them a few kingdoms have been allowed to rise up even without a weapon of sin such as cows, skeletons, hyena people ,cow people and most important of all are the dog boys. Similar to the first iteration of the world this one started off with a 100 years of peace but though those years weren't significant to the other kingdoms the dog boys expanded in such a way that was never seen across any iteration, they took over most of their continent which led to the sheep people and cow people which shared the same continent to form a temporary alliance to try and stop the dogboys, even though the dogboys were significantly outnumbered they pulled through after 20 years and controlled the most amount of land any kingdom ever had in either iteration which they did completely without a sin weapon which was lost from the sheep into a different continent, right after that they hyena people who were on extremely rich land which had extremely valuable recourses began crumbling due to poor leadership by the king and eventually had split apart and some of the rebellion kingdoms even gained their own sin weapon, from the original hyena person kingdom 6 new arose 2 had a sin weapon the flame sword of greed and lust bow, the abundance of sin weapon caused the 6 kingdoms to go to war. In that time the Kingdom of unicorns allied with the elves which were gathering power, in a shared effort they attacked the dwarf kingdom which persisted for 30 years, countless failed raids on their villages and trying to breach their capital always ended in a failure, until the sheep people joined their alliance and finally decided to launch a combined assault, with the dwarfs majority of the army being outside of the kingdom sailing to attack the elves they were overwhelmed yet still managed to defend their kingdom the soldiers from the alliance retreated and pressured 3 dwarven cities to rebel against the dwarfs and declare war on them which was the final nail in the coffin , after all of those attacks they were extremely weakened and finally fell. After the allied soldiers left the dwarf kingdoms one rebellion rose up and fused with the rest of the rebellions into one new unified kingdom now allied with the elves and they even gave envy their weapon of sin [[axe of wrath]]. At the smallest continent something was taking place at around the year 600 an unknown disease appeared which caused most of the bugs to turn into no sentient slime that attacked anything it saw, luckily a few bugs managed to escape into the middle continents without the virus and established multiple kingdoms that were allied into the official bug alliance which held 2 of the weapons, the hammer of sloth and the sword of gluttony which they guarded. In the shadows the elf unicorn alliance planned something to take down the dog kingdom, their plan was as such, defeat the 6 hyena person kingdoms to take their weapons of sin and then invade the dog kingdom together to gain more land. They made their plan at the best time they could've had since the dogboys kingdom had suffered immense losses because of countless rebellions which they claimed back into the empire. After the unicorn kingdom swiftly killed the 2 sin weapon holders of the hyena people and gave the weapons to envy, they decided to declare war and invade but from the void beyond their world a new dragon arrived though not as strong as his predecessor he still was mighty, after a long rampage through the world he decided try and attack the bug kingdom which did lead to the 2 holders of sin to die and lose their weapons, during the dragons rampage the alliance decided to take advantage of the chaos and strike the dog kingdom and it's allies, one of which were the sentient cows who held the bow of lust. They were swiftly defeated and occupied by the unicorns since they had superior strength and health and their weapon of sin stolen from them. At year 679 The dragon then decided to make his way into the island of slime which he was consumed into and died, after his continuous rampage the bug kingdoms were extremely weakened and had a visit from the elf military to take their weapons of sin from them. Before envy could get the final 2 weapons at year 750 the great world war happened, the elves decided to launch an attack against the dogboys which ended in extreme failure even against a weakened army, the dog army began to sail across the globe to try and finally kill envy but they failed. As the dogs began taking elf territory envy gathered the weapons and wished for the world to turn back as it plunged into darkness to answer for her wish...

Within the darkness Xoth uttered a singular wish

Races without weapons of sin

Fairys

Penguins

Dwarves

Evil Mages

Orcs

Hyenas

as the world lit up on the year of 800 the countless new races that appeared amongst them 3 peaceful dragons roamed the realm.

for a long age which was later declared the

age of hope the civilesations were focused on strictly developing their recpective kingdoms and gathering recourses.

until one kingdom, the kingdom of bears decided to cast a spell, a spell which caused the dragons to go mad and kill and devour anything in sight.

And at the year 1020 the age of hope officialy came to an end as the age of chaos desended upon the realm of cource that backfired and cause devestating damage to all kingdoms to the point of regression all the way back to the stone ages. the dragons killed and devoured until they were eventually stopped by the barers of sin.

as an aliance between the elfs fairys armadilos alpacas and capybaras formed called the mythic shield so did a much stronger one due to their immense land area, the aliance was called the crab crown and was made of the penguins dwarfs bears rhinos and evil mages.

at the year of 1034 teh great steel crab was declared between the two aliances, at that time a tribe of orcs decided to join the war and try to take over the kingdom of rhinos for themselves but due to the orcs lack of recourses and weapons the rhinos conquered them for a great cost of many lives, during the alliance war countless casuallties fell as the war dragged on such as the fairy extinction of 1048. during this war the ghosts saw an opretunity, which their leader who held the spear of pride since te last itteration took gladly, he decided to attack the evil mages at their lowest and the great battle of fire comensed, after and effortless victory by the ghosts they gained immence power

due to the evil mages being able to manufacture magic wand easily. but during the great steel crab war another race came to extinction,at the year 1157 the capybaras were completly destroyed by the bears and their weapon of sin claimed by the bares

as they did not leave a singular survivor of the capybaras in the proccess.

after another 20 straight years of fighting the war finally ended on the first day if the year 1170 with no true winner. as the age of chaos resumes multiple wars arose such as the bear and alpacas which lasted between 1236 - 1351 and ended with both kingdoms utilising the most powerful spell in the history of the world, the spell itself was incredibly powerful as it dropped massive meteors onto a country of the casters choise, and so both bears and alpacas gathered their most powerful mages and witches to cast tens of meteor spells onto eachother which as a result ended In both countries ,WIPING EACHOTHER OFF THE MAP. at the same time Xoth the king of the ghosts decided to expand his empire and declare a war on the armadilos and hyenas as it resulted it a complete conquring of the both kingdoms and the sin weapon of greed now falling into the hands of the ghosts as the war ended in 1245 though the hyena queen manages to flee to western continent [ formally known as continent 1] using magic and manages to re-establish her kingdom and even set up a powerful spell, which happened right as the dwarves started a war to begin conquering the continent which the penguins also resided on.

At 1353 dawned the final age, the age of night, as the night dawned upon the world the races that are powered by darkness were amplified by it and so the generals of the ghost armies met into one meeting do decide the next move after a long year of thought they came to a conclusion, they must conquer the world. And in so the war of ghosts started, at first they recruited almost all of the evil mages in their kingdom to join nearly all army squads and providing countless wands to the kingdom after that they decided to attack the nearest kingdom, the elves , since the elves lived on a remote part of eastern kingdom without any major development the mages were able to conquer their kingdom, though envy herself wasn't able to be killed because of her impossible statistics and due to the fact that xoth declared that she is not to be attacked since she's the only other person that can remember the previous iterations and even so she decided to cooperate with the ghosts so, after that victory the ghosts continues to take over all of the remaining small kingdoms up until only 2 were left the hyenas and dwarfs, the hyenas didn't want to reach a point of near extinction and so they declared that they were not going to fight and so they were easily conquered at the year of 1400 the war the war entered it's last stage in which the dwarves had lost every city but their capital which they defended with all their might, the armies of ghosts kept on swarming the city for 15 years until it was weakened enough to finally take down and so the war ended on 1415 with xoth obtaining all the weapons of sin, as they were about to make their wish but the 3 divine dragons resurrected themselves using magic with the help of the hyena queen that couldn't stand watching her independence wash away and so as she used all of the magic from her race to resurrect the 3 dragons as they went on a rampage that even the combined power of the entire world couldn't stop and so xoth and it envy wished for the realm to reset hoping it would cause the dragons to die and so the world plunged to darkness once more...

The people of the misty islands of Celedine survive through terrace farming and sky fishing.

Being at a lower elevation than some of the other Cumulus layer nations, Celedine experiences a long season of Stormrise. As a result, they have many captains skilled in weather manipulation. Their unique Storm Lanterns help them to guide lightning to great effect in battle.

Celedine has been a vassal of Zholbaris for nearly a decade. The tribute demanded grows greater each season, and many Celedines yearn for a return to independence.

I hope you enjoy this! I am really excited to start to dive into the lore of Airship Armada in upcoming devlogs. If you want to know more about this world please check out our indie airship tactics RPG, Airship Armada.

And if so, how do they contribute to the human society? In my universe, anthros have descended from the true/real animals. They evolved along with humanity and gained similar physical characteristics and cognitive abilities.

The only difference with anthros from real animals is that they walk on two legs... and can speak, lmao. I'm not sure how anthros work in your universes but I'd like to hear it out. I'd specifically like to know these:

  1. Do anthros and humans get along together, and can they enter a romantic relationship?
  2. Do anthros have the ability to have jobs, or are they usually jobless?
  3. Are they seen as a normal part of society?
  4. Did they run their own civilizations, or did they co-exist with the human ones?
  5. What do they think of the normal animals? Do they see feral animals as equals or the same tribe, or do they see them as something different?

I'd like to hear y'alls thoughts.

Prompt Who or what are your rogue/evil AIs?

Your malfunctioning peacekeeper systems, the machines that had too much access and turned on their creators, systems that have been running so long that their code has begun to rot. Tell me about them, I’d love to know.

My turn: The Titanium Star is a sentient AI that was originally designed to ensure humanity’s dominance. However, humanity was driven extinct by a fleet of vengeful, broken aliens, leaving Titanium Star to awaken one cycle to no surviving humans left. Now, its goal is to exterminate any and all organics, because as advanced as it is, it cannot understand the hubris humanity had, nor the karma that brought them to their unceremonious demise.

Lore Kingdom of California

The Kingdom of California was established in 1655 by Queen Christina of Sweden following her abdication, leading an expedition of Swedish, French, and English settlers under the Royal Swedish Patent. Anchoring the realm at its fortified capital of Drottningsholm, the founding charter codified an egalitarian constitutional monarchy where the Crown serves as the first servant of the realm, balanced by an elected Ståndsriksdagen led by a Statsminister. Rejecting European feudalism, the constitution abolished hereditary aristocratic privileges, enshrining statutory gender equality, merit-based social mobility, and public welfare under royal protection. Over two centuries, California matured into an assertive, highly organized, and state-planned power guided by its Swedish royal dynasty.

Operating on the principles of enlightened statecraft, the monarchy treats the sovereign as the ultimate guardian of the public interest. The Crown cultivates loyalty from childhood through a compulsory, state-funded educational system and a respected national press. Together with the armed forces, these institutions foster a profound sense of civic duty, intellectual vigor, and unyielding national pride.

At the heart of this social harmony stands the Californian Church, a royal institution that seamlessly fuses Lutheran and Anglican traditions into a distinct national faith. Reflecting its Swedish heritage, the Church functions as a cornerstone of community welfare, preaching that the monarchy is God’s anointed vessel on earth to maintain justice, order, and progress. By blending spiritual life with civic duty, the Church elevates political cooperation into a shared, sacred obligation for the common good.

Inwardly and outwardly, California stands as a beacon of enlightenment, balancing collective unity with societal advancement. It is sustained by a philosophy of enlightened nationalism: the belief that true liberty is found in perfect societal harmony, and that progress demands shared sacrifice. The nation honors its historical struggles as the crucible of its greatness, its overseas ventures as proof of a civilized destiny, and its Swedish royal lineage as the eternal, guiding flame of its people.

Sorry the map is a bit poorly made, but I don't really know how to use mapping softwares so I just handpainted it marking the relative boundries of each country.

Kingdom of California units depicted:

Californian Lifeguard Voltigeurs:

Quartered within the marble halls of the Royal Palace itself, the Lifeguard Voltigeurs are an elite, all-female light infantry battalion serving as the living embodiment of the Crown’s sovereignty. Fusing supreme courtly bearing with ruthless marksmanship, these skirmishers are hand-picked from across the realm for their agility, intelligence, and unwavering devotion to Her Majesty. On the battlefield, they operate ahead of the main line, deploying in open order to harass enemy officers, disrupt formations with precision rifle fire, and melt away into cover before heavy infantry can react. Though their refined uniforms and ceremonial duties project royal splendor, under fire, these women are cold, lethal professionals.

Queen Ingrid’s Life Lancer Regiment:

(Drottning Ingrids Liflansiärregemente), also officially designated as the 11th Regiment, is an elite shock cavalry formation of the Royal Californian Army. Constituted in 1660 during the early foundational era of the Kingdom of California, the regiment is one of the oldest and most prestigious military units in the realm. It serves a dual role within the state apparatus: acting as the personal field escort and ceremonial guard to Her Majesty Queen Ingrid Karoline, and serving as a premier, high-mobility vanguard for the kingdom's frontline foreign expeditions.

Context: This is from my fantasy world, Tlanni. In Pa Ca'atlan, ritual circles are closely tied to the solar calendar, marking the seasons and religious holidays. In return for their observance through the year, the region's chief god allows the rebirth of spring.

Today's prompt was ritual circles. For anyone interested in pre-modern astronomy, look into the Woodhenge of Cahokia.

Question In a world without minable metals, would guns have ever been invented?

In my story's world there's actually only very small amounts of metal available, so I was wondering if people would have ever been able to invent firearms if they had no access to iron or potassium.

Map Backwater Planet World Map

Post image
6 Upvotes

Long ago, millions of lightyears from our own Earth, was a tiny backwater planet.

It had very little contact with the wider galactic community, and thus had less infrastructural development than its nearest neighbors. But what it lacked in this area, it made up with its vast natural resources, and most importantly, with its incredible hotspot of magic.

And its not like this planet was in the stone age, either. The people of this isolated world managed to create truly wonderful technological marvels, all powered by their magic. The planet was very prosperous.

But out of nowhere, in an apocalyptic event later dubbed as KNIGHTCOMING, a massive army of powerful religious fanatics attacked the planet with the goal of conquering it. They did offer to take control peacefully if the people surrendered, but like all the others, they said no.

It was a massacre. The eastern continent, which was the most developed part of the planet, fell immediately. The Knights cast a giant storm on this land, now known as the Eternal Blizzard. A never ending, black storm of hail and snow engulfed the entire eastern half of the planet.

In a huge panic, the greatest surviving magicians and scientists gathered to scramble up a way of pushing back the Knights. They discovered that a machine could overclock a SOUL further than normally possible, and this would allow a huge burst of magical energy to be released.

The magicians offered their souls.

Armed with the seven CORES, the remaining armies barely managed to push the Knights off the planet. And with CORES’ grand power, a planetary shield was put up to cover the entire planet. The Knights would not be able to break this new barrier, so they stationed every warship they had right next to the planet. The whole world was put under an eternal siege, and everyone would be reminded of that every time they looked up.

But before they left, the Knights left four of their own eggs behind. It was a strategic decision, one made in the hopes that these children of the dark would reproduce and eventually overthrow the active governments and deactivate the Planetary Aegis.

The four children grew, unaware and uncaring of their origin.

But one of them had an idea. An idea so dangerous it could place the whole world in danger should her plan succeed.

Hi! First time posting here. This map, and the lore above, is for a game idea that I’ve been working on ever since I was 15 years old. The map’s unfinished, but I would like to show it off regardless; any feedback would be appreciated. :)

Lore A backstory for a orcish warrior through which I try to show a bit of their modern society off through

Post image
2 Upvotes

Rule 4: The art isn't mine, it is by Cristie-Drake. It is called "The Path to You" and gets the vague idea across well enough for how orcfolk appear in my on-again-off-again world build project. I might have to tag an artist to sketch up these fellows sometime, though, to illustrate the final article. In the past people here have said that walls of text without art don't rate, and art doesn't yet exist, so a yoinking I did go.

Rule 2: This is the backstory for an unimportant NPC in my setting. Lately I've been writing these up as a way to show off certain aspects of the world (which is fairly uninspired and quite familiar to most here I'd imagine) through the eyes of people who have to live in it. Orcfolk are, near as can be figured, limited to a single geographic range in the west-central part of the main continent, in a refuge-society that is rugged like the Alps and heavily forested, with a large lake right at the center of the primary valley. Humans have been wiping them out for centuries (religious reasons), and this seems to be all that's left - the ruggedness of the terrain making it hard for humans to finish the job. Their last big raid was unsuccessful at establishing new lands because they grossly underestimated just how big the Republics up north were - but they did destabilize the region pretty heavily and between their short-lived occupation and some captives / loot they brought back, were able to transform their society from just about as tribal as you'd imagine orcfolk to be to something approaching early and low tech civilizations like those of Mesoamerica and Mesopotamia (and I straight ripped off Sumerian for their linguistic terms because Marduk cannot stop me).

Inquiry: Let me know what you think of the content itself, as well as how it was presented. I'm not a practiced story writer and half the point of this is improvement. Mind the context is that this leads up to a statblock for a 2nd Level Half-Orc Warrior, per DnD 3.5 (or really any game of your choice's equivalent, I'll probably dip out and transfer everything to GURPS sometime hah). Is the character interesting? Do I show the society or am I still telling? Does the broader concept get your attention that you'd walk away wanting more?

Enusat, a warrior of Irgigi's ildum was not even a word in the mists when the si-sá reforms his society serves were put to place, in the time of his father's father, or perhaps just before, but they have shaped who he has become never the less.  Born about 17 snows ago to Ku-aya and her chosen Ninazu, he was strong, motivated, and learned well the multitude of lessons of the cohort he was assigned to after his 8th snow.  Strong of body, keen of mind, and with a ki-ág spirit that shone bright among his peers it was felt early on that he would have real potential and perhaps a noble future among his imri, mayhaps even among the united peoples who now called themselves Tila.

But for now, he was just a newly minted Ugula - nominal leader overseeing two šu - ten subordinates - in both labor and war.  Labor they did, too - though rigorously trained in the folk's new way of war and having passed trials to earn his warrior mark and again the right to oversee those below him, he had grown up in peaceable times and had never actually seen war.  Though mustered up at the war age during Anba's rebellion a few snows ago, his erim never deployed, instead being held as a reserve near the capitol on lake Šag.  In practice, his day-to-day is like any others of the Aga-uš social class he occupied - quick morning and evening drills, punctuated by serving as reserve labor for the diverse productive folk of the general population not organized into a dedicated soldier's ildum.  As was typical, most of this labor was aligned with supporting the labor-intensive but highly productive new agricultural techniques that had seen his nation grow enormously since the time of the last great breakout - should the tales of those times be any indication, anyway.  In line with the reforms, he learned these skills to support the greater good of the people, to earn his keep as a soldier in times of peace, and to provide an alternative life-path should he ultimately be found unsuitable for true combat.  Like he learned to thrust with a spear, hurl the javelin, and smash with the club, so too did he learn to tend to the sweet grasses that grew native along the rivers, lake, and surrounding marshes, and too the foreign gig-kib taken as war bounty and sewn across their lands and now which now dominated their foodstock.  Swine were no mystery to him, either, and indeed their keeping was considered quite suitable for Aga-uš.

With his title came the right to wed ahead of the traditional 19th snow, and he has set to take young Ninki as his first-bride - should his ildum leader, her ildum leader, her mother, and ultimately the young woman herself agree to a price that he could afford - which at this point in his life, was not much.  Having only recently taken his place, he could not count on a deep degree of gú-ĝar from the underlings in his šu - he fought well and earned the position by being someone generally trusted by the Gešda that he now reported to, but was not especially well spoken like some could count themselves, and had only limited rapport to draw on beyond the essentials of his rank - but perhaps a little support could be won out from his new subordinates.

Lately, drills have started to become more involved affairs, with less time spent on the individual sparring lessons, long runs, and sprints that usually dominate the affair - instead, it has become more about organization during and after the march, reorganizing around the šunir totems worn on the backs of Ugula and around the giizilá rallying beacons carried by higher formations.  More details needed to be relayed about the "hundred horn calls" alongside more runs in full kit (complete with the rarely worn armor the crafting ildum have been usually focused on lately) that integrate these calls to achieve positions and formations without words being spoken beforehand.  Most curiously, a new formation has been formed - one based around forming sudden large gaps in the line, punctuated with tight knots of warriors wielding spears - gaps that they suddenly close and allow the rearward reserves to lay into the imaginary enemy they practice against.  Rumor has it this was dreamed up to combat the maškura - the giant hornless goats the Great Enemy beyond the homeland was said to ride aback of into battle, but most everyone is sure such a beast was pure myth, as certainly none of the creatures that dwell within their own domain could be forced upon as such without great peril.

It is said that until the whole of Those Who Decree Fate have been reclaimed no one can predict the future, and so Enusat does not worry much about things to come that he cannot control.  Instead he focuses on turn-out for drill and labor, spends time off playing games of íbisi-íbisi and zub with friends or members of his ildum, imagining what his days will be like when Ninki chooses him, and trying to find a way to tie his šunir on more comfortably...

Lore Alien world: Cvrkanash

Post image
2 Upvotes

(note: in my universe, worlds are flat and covered by sky-domes. Suns and moons are merely holes that let in the light of Vhalfr, the only star. Natural portals connect the worlds into one big interconnected web.)

Cvrkanash - a world best known for connecting multiple worlds in Varpulian and Poril Clusters, as well as M’velt Strabana (known as the Junction World).

For humans, it was discovered just a few cycles ago, through the portal in Thi'w-racc, and never settled. The name is a human approximation of an ashtakurti word of unknown meaning. It was used by both humans and ashtakurti fleeing the advent of the Heskalun Empire. Precise maps have been drawn using magical devices called modelers, but they didn't reveal anything other than sand and rock.

Its massive surface is covered mostly by the desert of fine white sand and some rocky mountains. It’s bathed in darkness as it only has pinprick-sized sun- and moon-gates that look more like stars on Earth. Despite the lack of large bodies of water, the humidity is quite high due to the water vapor precipitating through the sky-dome.

Cvrkanaash has quite unique life forms. Sparse oases are surrounded by transparent cacti-like organisms with transparent, slightly bioluminescent bodies. At the bases of such pseudo-cacti, one may find rock-like eggs. Those eggs hatch, letting out small, round, and transparent beings with innumerable tube feet and a single needle that can be retracted inside the body. The beings use their tube feet to roll their bodies, and the needles to pierce the pseudo-cacti to drink their gelatinous insides. The creatures absorb not only nutrients, but also the genetic material and certain autotrophic organelles. When they absorb enough organelles to support themselves, they partially burrow in the sand and start growing. Their organs dissolve, their feet turn into spikes, and the needle grows into the ground. After a couple of cycles, they become the pseudo-cacti and start growing their own eggs. The offspring is genetically identical to its parents, but it diversifies its DNA by absorbing it from other specimens. The pseudo-cacti die soon after hatching the offspring.

Cellular studies revealed that the pseudo-cacti are distantly related to certain zoophytes from the Poril Cluster, living in a symbiotic relationship with a type of blue algae (that’s actually transparent and slightly bioluminescent).

The gelatinous flesh of pseudo-cacti is edible for humans and ashtakutri. Some cultures consider it a delicacy, while others consume it for survival while traveling through Cvrkanash. A small incision in the arm of a cacti allow to harvest some gel before it coagulates and the wound closes, although some people completely drain the cacti, killing them in the process.

The past of Cvrkanash is a mystery. The presence of such unique organisms suggests a long biological history, but the lack of any other organisms (even free-living blue algae) - or large bodies of water that would allow diverse ecosystems - is puzzling. It's theorized that Cvrkanash used to have water, but lost it somehow, and is only now recovering it through the skydome. It's estimated that in a couple of thousand cycles, Cvrkanash may develop a proper hydrosphere. In the meantime, the pseudo-cacti are the only known inhabitants of the world.

Lore Thoerivia's Creatures & Environment

Thumbnail

Thoerivia, is a vast volcanic desert, with black sand dunes. It is the native land of the exoskeleton species called Thoerivians. However Thoerivians are only one of many other creatures that inhabit these lands. The following produces detailed descriptions of the other currently known creatures:

Lebbits: a lebbit is a Giant, plain, pearly white frog-like creature. Lebbits are widely considered an adorable helpless creature. However unfortunately for them they are a major food source for Thoerivians. Though some prefer to keep them as pets instead.

They are physically described as completely smooth white blobs with legs that leap forwards and have little dots at the front of their face for eyes. Lebbits make the sound: "moarp".

Note: baby lebbits are called lebbles, they are basically just miniature lebbits, varying on size, but they all start off roughly about the size of an average mans palm.

Volcanic Hounds: Volcanic hounds are big shimmery dogs that are vicious to humans and used to be food sources for Thoerivians, until they were adopted into their culture as house pets.

For their appearance, imagine if you combined a Doberman pinscher with a great dane and made it thinner, stronger, scarier, and taller. Then you would get a volcanic hound.

Some hounds are big and tough, while others get adopted by people who dress them in pink crowns and throw tea parties for them. Some get both from one home. But when domesticated they are great protectors.

Biologically, Volcanic hounds are vulnerable to cold temperatures, as they are surrounded by heat. Fortunately they are also lava/magma resistant, and love hot lava baths

Sandworms: underneath the black desert sand, ginormous, tan, worm-like creatures tunnel underneath, they are attracted to the surface by heavy movement, including footsteps. it is suggested to stay on patches if obsidian to avoid attracting them. They'll eat anything that moves.

Sandmen: Sandmen, or "The men under the sand" are strange creatures that wear the skin of their last victims, they peek their faces and hands out of the ground and whisper words that mimic human voices, in order to lure wandering or lost humans closer until they are close enough to be easily dragged underneath.

Above pictures contain a lebbit, and Baxter, An albino volcanic hound that belongs to The overlord of Thoerivia.

Question A collection of monarchies who share a leader?

How would a league or union of kingdoms work where their leader is chosen from one of the rulers?

Each kingdom rules separately and have their separate laws, but there is one ruler who keeps them all united. Upon the supreme ruler's death, the youngest of the rulers becomes the next high ruler. (the reason for choosing the youngest ruler is because as they are young, they will be able to rule the long, supposing they don;t get murdered.)

How would that work?

Lore The Blackdunes

• Upvotes

The Blackdunes

The Blackdunes is a desert of black sand that boils and churns with extreme heat. Its consistency like tar; near thick enough to stand upon, yet consistently swallowing anything that crosses it. The sand is so hot that even brief contact can blister exposed skin.

Despite its hostile nature, the Blackdunes is not an ordinary desert. Its shifting sands conceal powerful swells of psychic energy that create temporary paths of stability. Crossing these currents in large mecha is the only reliable means of traversing the desert.

To navigate these paths, a vessel requires a navigator who possesses the Sight, an ability that reveals the hidden swells of energy beneath the sands. By reading these currents, a navigator can guide their mecha across stable ground and avoid being swallowed by the shifting desert.

Beneath the scorching surface, strange creatures swim through the sands as though they were an ocean. Their unusual body plans and reflective scales help them survive the extreme heat. Pirates and honest sandsailors alike hunt these creatures for their valuable materials. Among the most prized are Crush Snails, whose shells can be ground into a fine blue powder with extraordinary properties.

The Isles Corasoa

Above the roiling sands drift the Isles Corasoa, island oases carried by psychic winds. When settlers first arrived, they constructed anchors to hold the islands in place, making navigation and permanent habitation easier.

Yet the islands were not always bound to fixed positions. According to legend, the nomads once commanded psychic winds, using their magic to guide the islands across the desert. That power has since faded, and the nomads have been all but driven from the lands they once controlled.

The Sight

The Sight is the ability to perceive the otherwise invisible flows of psychic energy beneath the Blackdunes. Most people cannot consciously perceive these currents, but those who possess the Sight can visualize concentrations of psychic pressure and observe how they move through their surroundings.

This ability is essential to sandsailing. By reading the hidden swells, a navigator can identify paths where the sand becomes sufficiently firm to support a mecha. Without the Sight, there is no reliable way to determine whether a stretch of sand will bear a vessel's weight or swallow it whole.

The Crush Snail

Crush Snails are among the most valuable creatures inhabiting the Blackdunes. Their shells can be ground into a fine blue powder that, when ingested by someone who possesses the Sight, greatly enhances their ability to influence the desert and its inhabitants.

Rather than merely perceiving and following existing currents, an empowered navigator can exert control over the forces that shape the Blackdunes. This may include influencing unusual atmospheric phenomena above the desert, altering the behavior of creatures dwelling beneath its surface, or generating entirely new currents in the sand.

The ability to create currents is particularly significant. A navigator who can shape the flows of psychic energy is no longer limited to naturally occurring routes. They can forge new paths through the desert, opening possibilities that would otherwise remain inaccessible.
