Announcement New rules and amendments

New rules:

No bare feet photos (displayed as Rule 9)

Posts with photos of just bare feet are not allowed, and users may be banned depending on their posting history.

Edit: revised verbiage

No individual weight-loss posts (displayed as Rule 4)

r/walking is not a weight-loss sub. If you'd like to share weight-loss wins, keep it to the weekly thread.

Going forward, we will be posting a weekly thread for members to share any weight-loss wins. Transparency about the use of weight-loss drugs and calorie restrictions is appreciated but not required. (Upon consideration, we can't require people to disclose medical details.)

Amendments:

Rule 3 was previously "Submissions must be walking-related" and is now "Submissions must be walking-focused."

Submissions with other clear topics that only tangentially involve walking are not allowed. Your post should be primarily about walking.

Challenge Day 22/30 walking 15k steps

Woot! Another day of 15k steps done! I’m not going to pretend every day is exciting, but I’m proud of myself for staying consistent and actually following through with something I set out to do. That’s not something I’ve always been great at. I keep getting asked what happens at day 31 & I’m just going to keep this going! This challenge has become so much more than just hitting a step goal. I’ve noticed changes in my mood, mental clarity, sleep, and just how I feel overall. I don’t want to lose the progress I’ve made by stopping just because the 30 days are up.

Also, thank you to everyone who has been so kind and supportive throughout this challenge. All the encouragement and everyone cheering me on has genuinely helped keep me going and motivated me to keep showing up every day. It means a lot to know that people are following along and rooting for me, and I appreciate you all more than you know!

Outdoors Morning Walk on the Waterfront

Post image
41 Upvotes

Broke my ankle this summer just as I was starting my fitness journey, but the boot is off and I’m back at it! After being on crutches and then a cane, I’ll never take walking for granted again!!

This is the waterfront walkway in my town. It’s exactly one mile round trip, so it’s a a great quick walk in the morning. I find if I walk first thing in the morning, I’m more likely to make healthy choices the rest of the day.

Other Sedentary job

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi, i work a sedentary job and at best I would get 2,000 steps in while at work. Now I have increased it to about 6,000. I have 2 10 min breaks and I use the last 15 mins of my lunch to walk after eating. This is how much I got in at work. End of the day I try to hit minimum 12,000 but yesterday I hit 15,000 and I want that to be my minimum per day. Goal is to build up to 20,000 steps daily.

Today was the first day I walked confidently (mostly) outside, I took peoples tips from my previous post onboard and hid under giant sunglasses. I didn't walk at a brisk pace or anything today, just my normal speed. This is how many steps I took and distance, I dont wear a smart watch, so I just put my phone in a band when im exercising instead. I dont get an overall steps for the day but im mainly focused on getting at least 10,000 on a daily walk.

Using daily walks to scout neighborhoods before a move

i'm trying to decide between staying in Reno or relocating south to Henderson. my plan is to spend a few days walking different residential areas in each city, not just driving through. i want to see which sidewalks are maintained, where the shade is, how the hills feel on my knees, whether people are out walking dogs or kids or nobody at all. that's the kind of thing you miss from a car. I have a spreadsheet for the housing numbers but nothing for walkability feel. has anyone else used walking as a way to make a big relocation decision? i'm curious what you noticed that surprised you, or what you wish you had paid attention to before you moved somewhere. the tutoring work can follow me, the house can sell, but the daily walking environment is harder to undo

Question I just bought Brooks Adrenaline GTS and i HATE them!

Can someone PLEASE recommend me a different pair of walking shoes (WIDE FEET). With the brooks adrenaline, the midfoot arch section is wayyy too hard and narrow. I got new insoles and i can still feel the ridiculously hard arch.

Anyone else addicted to the walking + daydream combo?

• Upvotes

The dopamine hits I get from putting on headphones, walking, and daydreaming in loops I get is astounding. I day dream all the damn time so walking brings out the clear headed, healthier version of it. Killing two birds with one stone

Goosebumps are so common for me with that combination and it's soooo nice. If I walk at night it can be such a cathartic experience with the right music and thoughts going.
