Co-op WaterlooWorks Megathread (Winter 2027)
This thread is for students applying to Winter 2027 co-ops during the Fall 2026 term.
As usual, we're looking for salaries for new postings, or updates to existing salaries, so if you're willing to share, please open up a chat/DM the mod team. Please include the company name, salary, any benefits, the role and the year if possible. I would highly encourage you to submit if you have salaries for non mathematics/CS positions as we are severely lacking in those. We will try updating these ASAP.
The sheet is here: Salaries + Blacklist Spreadsheet
Average Canadian Co-op Earnings (2024)
If you have details about interviews, rankings, etc, you can add information to watrank.com for visibility.
If you had a poor experience with a company, you can message the mod team with details and it can be added to the blacklist candidates below. If it's already a candidate, it may be added to the blacklist depending on the severity/consistency of complaints. On the contrary, if you had a good experience with something on the candidates/blacklist, please message the mod team and it may be removed. Candidates will be removed if no more reports are received after a couple terms. Even if something is on the blacklist already if you've had a bad experience let the mod team know, as more reports increase confidence that it is problematic!
Candidates:
- Console One
- Lafarge
- Agentmoon
- WealthyPlanet
- Mosaic Transit Group
- Jobby
- Aethos Labs
- Onex Risk Management
Note that reports from submitters with no previous account activity may not be accepted to aid legitimacy.

Should I create a Waterloo Dating Show?
Thinking of starting some dating events for UW students and wanted to see if anyone would actually show up before I put the work in lol.
Idea 1: speed dating night
~10 short dates (6 min each),. After each date you privately tap yes/no on your phone. If you both said yes, you get each other's contact the next morning. Nobody finds out who said no.
Was thinking maybe I could also create some themed dating nights - book lovers, asian students only, indian students only, or sum.
Idea 2: live dating show
Kind of like the balloon-pop / blind date shows on TikTok. In SLC Great Hall.
Anyone interested? I feel like this would help with all of the loneliness on campus.

Photo/Video Totally legit email from a totally legit email address
fyi I've never interacted with the real Professor Hans De Sterck before, so this was highkey kinda ominous.
This email was sent twice in 10 minutes to my non-uw address (kinda concerned about how they got my private address from, but eh, i barely care)
stay safe guys!!

Is it too early for me to be rejecting coop offers?
Title. I’m 2A math and an offer I have for the winter as a swe is nice but the company isn’t very interesting. My last internship was at a really cool startup based in the states working in a cool problem space and this company is a pretty mid Canadian startup. I’m pretty sure it is somewhat of a downgrade. That being said, it is my second coop (though it isn’t very late into recruiting cycle) so am I being too picky? Should I reject this offer and try and get better?

Interview advice
I'm an engineering student looking for co op. I've been getting interviews at good companies(internal + external) but always seem to struggle to answer questions during them. I have challenges with both behaviorals and technicals. The common theme is poorly communicating my thoughts and using lots of filler words. I get so nervous to the point where my mind goes blank and I can't solve or respond to simple questions that I could probably handle find under a more casual setting.
With behaviorals, I struggle to respond to "tell me about yourself" or "name a time you solved a difficult challenge/worked with a team/etc". I feel like the "tell me about yourself" part is really just asking you to explain why you're a good fit for the role. I struggle to give a pitch that's comprehensive without rambling for too long. My formula is pretty much program+school -> what I did at each internship(currently working at my third) -> projects. My intro feels generic and I always ramble about my experience/projects because I don't want to give a superficial summary. Often it becomes incoherent. Does anyone have tips for these types of questions?
For technicals, I fall into the same trap every time(coding, debugging, or even verbal situational questions). I talk really fast out of nervousness and go quiet when I get stuck. Normally, I'm not an awkward person at all, I just get stressed out by interviews because it feels like any answer that isn't exactly what they're looking for is an immediate disqualification. Does anyone have tips or a mental framework for tackling these situations? I think a useful mental model would be asking clarifying questions and stating any assumptions before diving in. People say what's most important is not the answer you arrive upon, but explaining how you got there. How true is that really? How do you continue or ask for hints when you get stuck? Sometimes you get hit with a question that you have no domain or technical knowledge of. I don't want to say "idk" or "can you give me hint".
If anyone struggles with the same bad habits, or has advice to overcome these weak points please share!

Serious People who've founded something: how many emails were you getting?
In short: I have a pretty 9/10 larped-up LinkedIn, but to anyone who's actually worth their salt, it's only 4/10 skillwise (it's basically all larped-up GPT wrapper apps + some Fullstack SWE internships).
I wanted to try my hand at making a startup so I made a simple LinkedIn page and added it to my experience section. Note: it doesnt even have a website yet; there is NO evidence that it rlly exists.
Since then, I've been getting 1.5 emails/week from random company's DM-ing me on linkedin. I'm just wondering if this is the normal frequency of outreach emails for a larped-up situation like this. For ppl who have founded smth or larped founding smth, how many emails were yall getting related to that?
Also, I got an email from nextcanada.com asking to apply to their upcoming batch of NEXT 36. I've never heard of them before, so I'm highly skeptical that I actually have an "impressive profile", and more think it might lowk be an email address farm. I just wanna make sure I'm not actually being rlly gullible and giving my details out to contact into farms.

1st year getting OAs and interviews but tons of rejections, is 2031 grad year the issue?
1A math here, applying to tech roles for summer. pretty much every OA i get i pass and then get an interview, so that part's been fine. but almost all of them feel like auto sends, and outside that i'm just getting rejected everywhere
starting to think it's the 2031 on my resume getting me filtered out. could also be that i'm just bad lol but the OA to interview part has been working so idk
anyone deal with this as a first year? did changing how you list your grad date to like 2030 help or nah

BIOL 130 Midterm — How hard was it and how did you study?
Hii!! I’m currently taking BIOL 130, and our first midterm is on October 20. I was wondering if anyone who’s taken the course before could share their experience.
How difficult did you find the midterm? Were the questions mostly based on memorization, or were they more conceptual and application-based? I’m especially wondering if there were questions involving experimental scenarios, predicting outcomes, or connecting different concepts.
Also, what study methods worked best for you? Were the lecture slides and practice questions enough, or would you recommend using other resources?
I’m trying to prepare as effectively as possible, so any advice about the difficulty, question styles, or things you wish you’d known beforehand would be really appreciated.
Thank youuu!!

Advice What projects helped you land your first CS co-op?
Hey everyone, I'm a first-year CS student at Waterloo looking to build some solid projects for my resume before applying to co-ops.
For those of you who have landed a CS co-op, what projects did you have on your resume that helped you stand out? I'm especially interested in projects that actually made a difference in getting interviews, rather than just being another basic CRUD app or tutorial project.
Would also appreciate knowing what tech stack you used, how long the projects took, and whether they helped you land interviews at bigger tech companies or startups.
Thanks!

recommendations
i’m currently in first year math honours and am taking 13# for both of my maths and cs courses. just last week i had a quiz for all three classes and did really bad one all of them. my averages before these quizzes were all 90+.
i scored 50% on 135, 65% on 137 and 52% on cs. my electives are fine rn but idk what should i do about these grades bc i need at least 60 to take the next courses in 1B. i’m aware that i’m pretty far from a 60 but i feel like im losing confidence in the classes seeing how much time and effort i put into studying for the quizzes.
i have another 137 quiz on monday and my 135 midterm on Wednesday. any recommendations or tips?
