Seems like theres open secrets among those in around the scene/surf industry (some of these folk seem to try to demand or expect 'respect' as well, while seemingly harbouring such information or past behaviour...)

A friendly reminder to double/triple check before paddling into something. No matter how far away you think you are from people.

So long story short, I got tunnel vision when a set came and just paddled blindly into this wave. I was too deep for it anyway and barely made it up. Once I was up I heard the guy behind me yell YOO! I bugged out and tried to get off the wave as quickly as possible and in the process almost took him out when my board got caught in the lip.

The guy paddled up to me and I could tell he was pissed but he didn’t chew me out completely. Basically told me what I did wrong then paddled away.

I’m only in my third year of surfing and have picked up on it fairly quickly but am embarrassed to have made such a rookie mistake. Especially at my daily spot with a guy who I’ve seen out on more than one occasion.

That’s all. Just needed to vent as it really has bummed me out for the entire day.

Its a twinny, so i guess the fin area makes more force/torque on the base even with my pissweak turns. The first repair I replaced the plug, which had partially torn itself out, I noticed there were places of smooth plug where the resin had not stuck. After sourcing original FCS and roughing the outsides, new foam the repair held about18 months. But recently i had cause to remove the fins for travel and noticed hairline cracks from the corners of the tab holes and these cracks had made their way to the foam and down to the rail, as well as to the bottom surface of the box. The fin still was in tight, just cracks letting in water. So I glassed the fkker in. I figured it was better to leave the plug in because the placement and cant would already be set in and it felt ok flex wise. Took it for a spin this morning and it goes like it always did, pretty happy. lots of sanding, i didnt bother tidying up the filler coat, that'll do as a gloss.

Debating on fin size for a 7’4” Robert Hinds Tamago 51.7L. Shoulder to head high surf, more of a trim and glide surfer. I’m 6’1” and 195lbs. Any ideal fin sizes to run as a single fin or a 2+1?

I counted 105 guys between the jetty and the newly reopened staircase at Cherry.

When I was a kid in the 90's, Cherry st was the reliable crowd avoidance spot, even in summer.

I think the swell today had maybe 5 open face set waves every 10 minutes? How did the crowd even get to that size?

Obviously, I dont surf much anymore, and I wonder what goes through peoples heads when they decide to paddle out at an already crowded spot without the sets in the current swell(s) to back it. Back in the day, people would just go somewhere else or down the beach at least.

I keep wanting to get back in the water but days like this are very disheartening. Anyone else grow up here and have a newer hobby? Running is my big one

I am on a surf trip in New Zealand and even though I have caught really fun and sometimes pumping waves the actual waves are all kind of wonky and weird.

I am just wondering if there's actually any clean waves and good tubes here.

No hate. I love it here and its beautiful and the locals are all cool.

But from the hype I was expecting a few tubes. Most all waves here are back wash and weird compared to what I was expecting from all the photos.

Any sug on where to actually score clean tubes?

Hi, I've ordered some fins at an online store. It's an international order from Japan to a surf shop in California. The shop doesn't ship the products or notify me in any way for a month, but intermittently replying to my emails that say it is confirming the inventory. The shop cancelled the order but no refunds are made, and won't answer my emails any more.

Is it usual for international orders made to Californian surf shops? I previously had good experiences from Gato Heroi, Mollusk, and some Aussie shops like Wild Things so I am in shock that this actually happened.

This is also where Todd Endris had his attack. He famously reported being saved by dolphins however if you look into it, his story has become questionable in recent years. Anyways, this is a well known sharky spot, but kinda crazy it was right in front of the camera
