Squadron 42 Playtest Megathread
Hello squadroners (?)
As some of you may know we have a sister subreddit, r/Squadron42 which is also ran by our team and is dedicated to Squadron 42. That subreddit is more restrictive in terms of not allowing Star Citizen (PU/PTU/etc.) unless it directly relates to something in Squadron 42 (not just "oh this ship is in both games!!!!!! type stuff).
We know the SQ42 playtest is a big deal right now, rightfully so, and we want to take the opportunity to show people that sub a bit more and give them an opportunity to start chatting there.
With that, we have made a megathread on that subreddit for the playtest event. Given it is the first megathread for that sub we will not be deleting individual threads but we will be reminding people in the comments about it. We encourage you to head over there and talk with your fellow citizens about the playtest event to your hearts content. We will not be doing a megathread here or enforcing people move to that megathread from this sub either.

Cheers!

Okay so, someone has been flicking days past me and I'm not entirely sure how we got to October this soon...
IRL has consumed much of my time personally, I've been a bit out of touch with SC development for a few months now but checking back to see tech preview having a physics fix at long last is a welcome sight!
What's everyone's go to ship in these last few months? Has my baby boy been fixed up any further (IronClad)? | Fly Safe, -Crazy_Muffins

DISCUSSION Weapons' rack should have ammo storage. What is your workaround?
I just shove an SCU box in the cargo bay with ammo, but damn, the walk from the armory to the cargo bay is a long one.

NEWS Anvil Auxilia spotted in '10 From the Community' Spoiler
Been out of the loop for a few months, so ignore me if we've already seen this. First I've seen of it beyond the silhouette!

IMAGE Ahhh yes, now I see how it got its name.
Wanted to say, this was posted in jest. I am not upset by it, I was just making a joke. I know all the tricks to help prevent the bug from happening, but they didn’t work this time. Game has been mostly frustration free for me this time around, and this is the least of the issues I’ve run into. Fly safe citizens.

QUESTION Question for the lore guys: Do Anvil and Aegis in the lore have a direct competitor to the RSI Perseus?
Question in title.
Was wondering if the other 2 big military brands have a direct competitor to this community favorite ship.

DISCUSSION Since ground vehicles are hard to implement for cargo elevators, what if we added dedicated ground vehicle elevators to every personal hangar type?
I was watching today's show "10 from the community" and that allowed me to understand how complicated vehicles would be to mix into the cargo elevators.
It really makes sense not to have them there at all... but, that just gave me another idea: What about adding a separate dedicated ground vehicle elevator to our hangars? Would that be too hard to implement?

GAMEPLAY Boggles my mind this works. Lazy Cargo Transport slacker gets paid, regardless. Well done, CIG coders.
So I tried some large contracted loads last night in the Ironclad--with a twist...
I wasn't going to bother with stacking boxes properly in the freight elevators. "Nah, too much work."
I tossed them in. Didn't matter where, how, snap, no snap, "I don't care."
And I did this with multiple contracts of goods, to the same location, and only delivered partially on each elevator drop.
To my surprise, and amazement, I got paid for the contracts, and all of this mess was sorted by the magic code the CIG box guys put together.
I tried to break things, and even stuffed stuff in corners, off grid, on top of one another, etc. And it worked.
I give CIG a lot of crap here and there, but on this, I cannot.
Well done, dudes.

DISCUSSION Mothership PSA: For those who don't know, bed logging "anchors" your ship.
Saw this mentioned before and figured I would try it out as the idea of a "mothership" always intrigues me but never seemed to work in practice. It still doesn't overall, but for the last 3 days I've been able to consistently QT back to my Ironclad without it disappearing. This may be luck, but it's been the longest streak of doing so in my entire history of playing Star Citizen. Here's how the method works:
-Spawn your mothership
-Park it somewhere in the verse
-Bedlog out of it
-When you rejoin the game don't move it
That's it. It will stay where it was when you bed logged and the QT marker will be consistent. I've been running bunkers with my Pisces and combat missions with my Alpha Wolf out of my iron clad for 3 days all over the verse and consolidating back at the Ironclad for 3 days now, no issues. Only catch is you can't move the mothership unless you bedlog out of it after you reach the destination to re-anchor it.
The other alternative is the old tried and true method of flying to a specific point in space, let's say "OM-3" around a moon, then pointing your ship to "OM-2" and flying for about 70k-100k in that direction before leaving the mother ship. Doing this will make you lose the QT marker pretty often, but you can always get back to ship by flying the parasite the same route to get back. This makes it so you can move the mother ship around during a session without bed logging. Personally I have my ship set up somewhere in space right now where if the QT marker does eventually disappear I can still find it.
So yeah...I'm sure a lot of you already knew this but I'm sure some didn't. Mothership gameplay is really fun and it's always been a let-down. This makes it a little more possible and hope it helps someone enjoy the verse a bit more o7

Fleet Pic 🚀 RSI design philosophy is beautiful
It's a bit of a wedge issue though
Edit: wow, I'm surprised at how many people are taking this post seriously. I thought the Ursa with a triangle and the meme would have made the unseriousness of this post a pretty obvious...

TECHNICAL Another Mothership PSA
I just saw a post titled "Mothership PSA" where the OP suggested bedlogging as a way to "anchor" the ship and make the QT marker stay where the ship is instead of millions of kilometres away.
I posted my comment there but decided to do a separate post for more citizens to see it.
The issue: when you QT away from your Mothership (say, taking off in a Pisces from a Carrack), the ship QT marker moves away from it to a random spot and you can no longer QT back to your ship.
My observation: I noticed the QT marker is created when you move exactly 23 km away from your ship. But your ship is still where you left it, even if the marker points somewhere else.
My solution:
- Take off the Mothership
- Fly away (not QT, conventional flight)
- Decouple and face your ship
- If you went past 23 km and the marker still points at your ship - it's safe to QT away, jumping back on the marker will get you to your ship.
- If at 23km mark the marker appeared somewhere else - just reverse and fly back to your ship. Once you get in the 23km range, the marker will reset and point to your ship, so it's safe to QT away now.
I hope this helps everyone live out of their big ships.

VIDEO I restored my perseus central catwalk for a speedrun parkour to the main turret
I also plan to add boxes to fill the ladder bottom level so that you can jump from the cockpit to the middle floor without falling all the way down

GAMEPLAY Fired up the game lately, fell in love with the new Connie, then my G502 lightning all over again. Free scroll wheel FTW.
I don't know why it took me so long to figure this one out. I never bothered with "work simulator" but now the missions pay enough that it's hard to ignore.
Just be careful when they get close, the crates will put you on the ground!
