Squadron 42 Playtest Megathread

Hello squadroners (?)

As some of you may know we have a sister subreddit, r/Squadron42 which is also ran by our team and is dedicated to Squadron 42. That subreddit is more restrictive in terms of not allowing Star Citizen (PU/PTU/etc.) unless it directly relates to something in Squadron 42 (not just "oh this ship is in both games!!!!!! type stuff).

We know the SQ42 playtest is a big deal right now, rightfully so, and we want to take the opportunity to show people that sub a bit more and give them an opportunity to start chatting there.

With that, we have made a megathread on that subreddit for the playtest event. Given it is the first megathread for that sub we will not be deleting individual threads but we will be reminding people in the comments about it. We encourage you to head over there and talk with your fellow citizens about the playtest event to your hearts content. We will not be doing a megathread here or enforcing people move to that megathread from this sub either.

Megathread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Squadron42/s/oLop2SHbnh

Cheers!

Okay so, someone has been flicking days past me and I'm not entirely sure how we got to October this soon...

IRL has consumed much of my time personally, I've been a bit out of touch with SC development for a few months now but checking back to see tech preview having a physics fix at long last is a welcome sight!

What's everyone's go to ship in these last few months? Has my baby boy been fixed up any further (IronClad)? | Fly Safe, -Crazy_Muffins

DISCUSSION I’d love to see a proper EMS career with NPC medical missions in Star Citizen.

Post image
191 Upvotes

I’ve been thinking about how much more interesting medical gameplay could be in Star Citizen.
Instead of just accepting random medical contracts through mobiGlas, what if we could actually join an Emergency Medical Service (EMS) or work for a hospital as a registered medic?
I’m talking about a proper medical career, where you’re part of an organization, receive emergency calls from dispatch, build your reputation, and respond to patients who genuinely need medical attention.

Imagine something like this:
You sign up with a local emergency medical service in New Babbage and start working as a paramedic.
During your shift, you receive an emergency call. A civilian or worker has been injured at a nearby settlement and requires medical assistance.
You grab your medical equipment, board your C8R Pisces, and head to the location.

Once you arrive, your job would involve:
Patient Assessment: Examine the NPC, scan their injuries, and determine the severity of their condition.
Emergency Treatment: Use a MedGun to stop bleeding and stabilize the patient.
Medication: Administer appropriate drugs, such as Roxaphen, to temporarily relieve pain and manage injury symptoms.
Basic Medical Care: Move the patient onto your C8R’s Tier 3 medical bed for treatment.
Medical Evacuation: If the patient suffers serious Tier 1 or Tier 2 injuries, stabilize them and transport them to a hospital for further treatment.

But I’d also love to see an actual EMS career progression system.
As you complete medical calls, you could earn reputation with your hospital or rescue organization, unlock more challenging emergencies, and gain access to better medical equipment or specialized assignments.
Different medical ships could serve different purposes, from the C8R Pisces handling everyday emergencies to larger medical ships supporting more complex operations.
And most importantly, not every medical mission needs to involve combat.

Sometimes I just want to fly to a small settlement, help an injured worker, treat a civilian, or transport someone to a hospital.
I want to feel like I’m actually working as a medic, not just another freelancer completing random contracts for money.
I think this kind of gameplay would give medical ships a much more meaningful purpose while making NPC settlements and cities feel more alive.

What do you guys think? Would you enjoy having a proper EMS career in Star Citizen?

DISCUSSION Anyone else think the RSI Hermes is seriously underrated?

Post image
188 Upvotes

I feel like the Hermes deserves more appreciation. The design looks fantastic, the 288 SCU cargo grid is actually practical, and that rail-mounted tractor beam is such a good idea.

It's one of those ships where the overall layout makes sense for what it's supposed to do. I love that RSI managed to make a medium freighter that looks this good while still giving it some decent firepower.

Obviously the rear entrance could be better, but I think the Hermes gets a lot more right than wrong.

Curious what everyone else thinks. Is the Hermes still one of your favorite medium haulers, or have you moved on to something else?

DISCUSSION Connie MKV has the Galaxy concept bridge

Thumbnail

The new Connie MKV has the Galaxies concept bridge (At least the glass/ canopy) while the Galaxy is getting a copy paste of the Perseus bridge. Why go so out the way to change the bridge on the Galaxy to something different while still bringing that same bridge into the game just on another ship -_-
Internal layout is a bit different than the Galaxy concept bridge interior but is still 4 seats.
It would also make more sense to share a bridge with another generalist ship like the Connie than something Military like the Perseus
As a Galaxy holder with it as my main pledge that's locked I'm not really looking forward to the more narrow, more occluded view, and rollercoaster-long animation main seat of the Perseus bridge after getting in a Connie MK5 and seeing what we should have had and the fact that it actually exists in game as of now
Changing concepts will for sure happen, but to just give it to another ship that releases a month earlier leaves me underwhelmed for the release next month
Some may like the change, some like me may not, but the bridge does exist, it was just given to another ship.

(First 2 images are of the Galaxies concept design, pic 3 is the Connie MKV, pic 4 the Galaxies update from July and pic 5 the Perseus bridge

Edit: pics are hard to zoom for the MKV and the paint isn't helping highlight anything but the glass is 95% the same between the Galaxy concept and the MKV. The MK5 had the front most angle on the glass moved inward a little bit. That's it. Other than that it's the same

Edit pt 2: https://imgur.com/a/9yIsPVE
Here is a better comparison to get an idea of what I'm getting at with the canopy

DISCUSSION Finally got my hands on this beauty: The RSI Meteor PYAM Executive! 😍

I think I’m in love.

Damn, this thing looks good! The black and gold camo, the aggressive design, the ridiculous amount of firepower… it’s basically a flying declaration of bad intentions. 😂

Took her out for a little spin around Pyro, and naturally, I spent more time taking screenshots than actually flying.

Now I just need to figure out whether I’m going to use her for bounty hunting or simply fly around looking intimidating. Probably both.

Anyone else flying the Meteor? How are you finding it so far?

I played for about three hours and the ship paint is started to peel off. Also there is no way to recover it. The only way to renew the paint is to blow up you ship then reclaim it.

DISCUSSION Why do we get a new ship with a snub ship, when we are still unable track the main ship once we leave it?

I love the new Connie MK.V but how does the Starmap still lack basic features like tracking the location of our own ships and vehicles?
Why does CIG advertise the idea of a snub craft when you still risk running into situation, where you can't get back to your main ship?
Yes, I know there are some workarounds like placing mission cargo in the main ship to have a permanent marker, but they are just that a workaround.
Also, considering mission cargo can be tracked all over the verse... why can't the same be applied to our ship?

DISCUSSION Which ships are coming to IAE?

Thumbnail

I'm still not entirely sure whether the Liberator will be released, since CIG doesn't usually launch two large ships at IAE. However, considering that we already have the Aegis kit, that the Liberator has been in production for a while, and that the monthly reports show significant progress in its development, I think it should be ready. Also, I think the Auxilia would complement the Liberator really well, as their capabilities seem to fit together perfectly. It would be cool to see them launch around the same time.

Another ship I'm unsure about is the Drake Marauder. I have no idea what it's going to be. The name suggests it could be a fighter, but we're missing a starter ship this year, which makes me think the Marauder might fill that role. Or could there be a surprise that hasn't appeared in the leaks?

I'm also curious about what the MK5 Andromeda will offer compared to the Centauro. Will it bring anything significant, or will it be similar to the MK4 variants?

A chill post to relax this Saturday.

Drop your theories in the comments!

OTHER I started to give away exec Hangar Ships

I have been cursed and i am sure of it. Since 4.10 I have done 9 exec hangar runs, of which 6 were alone and the only ship I really wanted is the F7a Hornet.
So far I got:

1 Cutlass
1 Syulen
1 F8c
2 Corsair
2 Guardian Mx
2 Meteor

every ship that I got twice, I have given away to people in Global chat and got to meet 3 really grateful people. Making them happy made me happy aswell, but you know what would make me more happy?

A F7a

One day Lady Luck will be on my side but until then there will be more happy people in Global chat.

o7 take care guys

DISCUSSION Taking Advantage of the Paint Restructuring — Am I Missing Something?

Post image
• Upvotes

With CIG restructuring a lot of its policies as Star Citizen moves closer to release, I’m tempted to take advantage of the changes to paint pricing.
Over the past 10 years of playing Star Citizen, I’ve accumulated around 20 paints. Some were purchased individually, while others were bought in discounted bundles.
I started doing some rough math and realized that if I melted my paints that are currently on market, I’d receive approximately $240 in store credit. However, if I repurchased those same paints together in one cart, the new 35% discount would bring the total to around $200.
That would leave me with approximately $40 in extra store credit, essentially getting all my paints back while freeing up some credit for other purchases.
The only downside I can think of is that the repurchased paints would no longer be giftable since I’d be using store credit. However, I could still melt them again later if I wanted to.
I’m seriously considering doing this and perhaps using the extra $40 to pick up a few more paints.
Am I overlooking anything here, or is this a legitimate opportunity to take advantage of the new pricing structure?

CONCERN CIG, can we get a search box or at least a name-sorted list in the Claim Mode please? Shouldn't take much time but would be a very nice QoL improvement!

Please tell me I'm not crazy. I was already getting Star Trek II torpedo bay vibes from the engineering section of the Mk V, and I swear that ship looks too close to the Reliant to not be a reference! I'm not crazy, honest >_>

Edit: Ok, on closer look it's just the turret T_T
